New to the group November 12, 2004 1:24 AM

I am 50 years old, retired and disabled due to a stroke August 26, 2000 that resulted in my left eye surgically removed. Hope to hear from group members soon. Cheryl  [ send green star]  [ accepted]

64 years old here. Also been retired since age 50 because of multiple disabilities. I may be a bit better off then many people my age, as I was able to show my disabilites were service connected. So I get full VA health care and a pension along with my SS check. I know many my age, and the majority can barely live on their small retirement and can not afford adequate health care, even with Medicare. These should be our happiest years, and worry free. But for many in our age group it is poor health, pain, poverty and loneliness. If possible visit a nursing home, make friends with the loneliest resident you can find. Both of you will be rewarded.  [ send green star]  [ accepted]

Who's Old? December 09, 2004 11:16 AM

Good Afternoon Everyone! I turned a young 84 this past August & celebrated by going on a Bird-Watching Cruise with my youngest son, Sam to Costa Rica. It was a wonderful experience except for contracting TB from another passenger (who managed to give it to 25 others!). I am slowly being 'weaned off' my O2 tank that helps me to breathe at night. Let's see, Sam moved in with me Summer 2003 after I had 'words' w/ an exploding Microwave :D...and 1 of my favorite grand-daughters moved in last August from CA. I have 3 dogs (Petunia, Ralphie, Astro) who are all rescues of sorts, and now 6 cats. Sam & I are "Foster Parents" for kittens & puppies and we simply fell in love w/ the latest batch of 4 kittens; couldn't see transferring them after caring for a whole month. My great grand-cousin invited me to join this Site and I am impressed at all the different groups! Am a Member of but it's not as fun as it used to be :(. I like using the Internet because it keeps my mind sharp (who knew there were Crossword puzzles on-line!), and helps me improve my typing skills + keeps my fingers 'limber'. I like to grow flowers & vegetables (we sold 250 Pumpkins this October!), watch birds (Sam is a Certified Bird Rescuer), Pray for Family & ALL of our Troops everywhere, like to cook, read just about anything, watch Baseball, and try to keep up w/ my 11 Grandkids! Have a good Blessed Day everyone! Henry aka Uncle Willard  [ send green star]  [ accepted]
Hi --I am Sally December 17, 2004 12:32 AM

Hi---I am new to the group. I am 55-will be 56 in February. I live in Garland, TX but am only a block from Dallas. My 19 year-old son is in college in Dallas. I work in the healthcare field as a caregiver to the elderly and enjoy it although I am thinking of making a career change. I have been divorced many years, so my son and I are on our own ,but we do fine and have a good time ,and having him late in life has kept me young at heart.  [ send green star]  [ accepted]

Dear Ms. Sally, My Great Grand-Cousin (aka A.J. Pebly) Mother had her when she 42 back in 196...I won't give away the end date because she may "thowp" me later :D! Let's just say that her Merm went through 3 OB/GYN's before she found one who would take care of her rather than do that God-Awful thing! The only thing Merm was worried about was Down-Syndrome so when it was discovered that A.J. needed heart surgery at 3 1/2 years old, her Parents were relieved! Oh my goodness! I almost fell over when I heard that news! You will have to get in touch with A.J. on these wonderful Boards... she has serious health problems but such a positive outlook on Life! I wish I had the ability to laugh at Life the way she does...God has definitely Graced her in more ways than one :). Merry Christmas to All, Henry W. Roth  [ send green star]  [ accepted]

My what an active life! AND interesting too. I hope that at your age I have your wonderful outlook and abilities. I try very hard to stay active, but as of late gotten more slovenly or lazy. ... or, maybe just complacent. I too like the internet, gardening when the weather is good here in MO, yard work, animals (but I have just the one cat). doing gealogical research, and am soomewhat active community - wise mostly through my husband now. At one time I had received with great honor "Outstanding Woman of the YEar Award" for my service to the community. Just don't have that old fire anymore tho'. Would like to possibly do some more fostering for ASPCA, but will have to see. Anyway, welcome to the boards and hope we will hear from you often! A Healthy and Happy New Year to you !  [ send green star]  [ accepted]
