Cohost, Anyone? May 05, 2006 12:56 PM

Hi! I started this group a long time ago, in hopes that it could be helpful for anyone dealing with problems in health care centers or taking care of loved ones, etc. However, for quite some time now, I haven't been making the rounds that I used to. I haven't been back to the care center I used to volunteer at, and I've been fortunate enough not to have to deal with other problematic aspects of the health care system. Basically, I really haven't had anything useful to report. Now that we have enough members that the group is on the public list, we have an opportunity to jump start this group and make it more helpful, and perhaps bring in more members and get some good discussion going. Unfortunately right now, I'm dealing with a lot of school work, so I really haven't been as active in any group as I'd like to be. Is anyone here interested in cohosting this group? It would be wonderful if someone who knows more than I do about current health care issues would take control of the group, and help it reach it's potential. My area of knowledge in the health care field revolves almost exclusively around long term hospital care, and nursing homes. There's a lot more out there for us to discuss, we just need someone better than me to get the forums and announcements moving... and everyone in this group meets that criteria. Just post here if you're interested! THANK YOU!!!  [ send green star]

Hi Rach,

I'm not sure about co-hosting but I'm willing to post. I already host a caregiving forum on another site. There's been a lot in the news recently about care standards in homes for the elderly, it's certainly a topical issue. I'm a full-time caregiver to my mother. I just joined the caregivers to the elderly forum and that's how I spotted your promo for over here.

Great! June 14, 2006 11:43 PM

And if you change your mind about cohosting, let me know. Nobody else has said anything and not much happens here, so it's definitely not a very hard job.

It's wonderful what you're doing for your mother. I was hoping to help with my great grandmother's care full time, before she passed away... that was how I ended up in online school initially. I had thought it would give me more time to spend with her.

Great to hear back from you so quickly. I'll let you know if I get some spare time to do more here.  Do you mind if I create any new posts?  I assume as host you can delete or move anything you don't like, or you can send me a message.  I've been with Care2 for a couple of years but never used the forums before, so I'm still getting used to where all the functions are located.  I've read the rules of conduct, so I'm okay with that.

I'm sorry that your great grandmother passed away. If I'm not being rude, how old was she? My grandparents, except my step-granddad, have died. My step-granddad is 92. He just keeps on going on and on, like the eveready battery, lol.

My brother and I made an agreement with my mother many years ago that we wouldn't put her in a home (that was way before she became unwell). At the moment mum is still capable of showering herself, even if she forgets how to turn the shower on. She can still dress herself, even though she might put things on back to front. Some days are better than others.

What are you studying with your online course?

Hello Zana! May 12, 2007 1:35 AM

Well, I feel terrible-- it's been almost a year since we were all having this discussion. Before I actually got a chance to read your post, I basically stopped checking on my care2 groups. Last summer we began caring for a family friend who was diagnosed with cancer, (I'm happy to report she's doing wonderfully now,) and taking care of a number of other people and animals. Our situation changed in such a way that this is the first time I've really been on this year! (To Care2 Connect, that is-- I've always continued to "Click to Donate.")

So anyway, to answer your questions, my grandma was 86, and I went through all of high school online.

How is your family doing these days?

Thank you Rach for the invite to be co-host of your group! I have accepted! I look forward to helping in anyway you need me to help!

I just invited all my friends to this group! I hope they all will decide this is a group that they can make a difference in here and carry all they learn to their local communities hospitals for improving  medical care of the patients and helping make sure the hospitals are fully staffed to provide the best medical care all citizens of their areas.
