Having recently rescued a 'Lethal White' (Lethal for them, as they are usually put to sleep at birth) I feel I can shout out for the 'disabled dogs' who find themselves under threat of termination due to the false beliefs (including vets) that they will have no quality of life.
Jess and her two brothers were born deaf and partially sighted, in varying degrees, in an otherwise unremarkable litter. Due to the 'accidental' cross breeding of two Merle's - Border Collie and Bearded Collie - these three pups faced an uncertain future until their owner decided that she would go against her vets advice and see if they could be rehomed.
Eventually Jess came to me and she is the most playful, mischievous, greedy, normal puppy you could find. Nothing phases her, she is brave and inquisitive and makes us howl with laughter at her antics every single day. She is now eight months old and who knows how long she will live for, she has the same odds as any other dog, but every day is a bonus. Especially when I think how I would never have had her love if it wasn't for luck and a brave decision.
This is her blog.
