I realize this is a one-time post for a special day, but could not decide where it might have fit in and I very much wanted to bring these thoughts here. Please relocate it or delete once you feel it has served its purpose. Here goes:
Today, October 1st, is International Day for the Elderly; it is always observed on that date. The day is dedicated to honor, respect, and care for the world's elderly--a group we may already be a part of, standing at the edge of, or hope to be included among some day.
In 1990, the United Nations General Assembly designated October 1st as a holiday for exploring and tending to the needs of the elderly of the world community. It is good for us to stop and look at our report card as a species. There is vast room for improvement.
Did you know that according to the United Nations:
'one of every 10 persons in the world is now 60 years or order. By the year 2050, one of five will be 60 years or older; by 2150, it will be one of thee persons.' Food for thought, isn't it?
Let's be sure every day that the Elderly know that we thank them for passing their knowledge, example, joy and love down through the generations...for informing our hearts and shaping our history.
I just thought it was wonderful that you shared this special event with us. It is important we remember our elderly ones and what a wonderful occasion to celebrate their lives. Let us all remember that our elderly need our love, support, help. Do extra nice things each and everyday to show appreciation for the elderly people of our world. Blessings to all, Christine
