What is your definition of forgiveness?

What power does it have, if any?

What has been your experience around forgiveness, either received or given?

Any favorite quotes around this subject?

Forgiveness turns the world of sin into a world of glory
3 months ago

"Forgiveness turns the world of sin into a world of glory, wonderful to see. Each flower shines in light, and every bird sings the joy of Heaven. There is no sadness and there is no parting here, for everything is totally forgiven. Aand what has been forgiven must join, for nothing stands between to keep them separate and apart. The sinless must perfeive that heya are one, for nothing stands between to push the other off. And in the space that sin left vacant do they join as one, in gladness recognizing what is part of them has not been kept apart and separate." ACIM text pg. 510

I figured I might generate some discussion from members here about forgiveness... What are your thoughts regarding the questions at the beginning of this thread?

Here are a couple more questions for you to ponder and respond to in this thread.. Come on members, let's see some participation.....

Does capital punishment for murder work?

Can we forgive someone and then kill them via our justice system?

What is justice anyway?

i think forgiveness on my part is nessary for the health of my own spirit.  i heard that resentment is like taking poison and waiting for the other person to die.  Also the other person may not know or care if you've forgiven them--that is irrelevant.

this may seem a little off-topic, but there is a Bible story about Noah getting drunk and passing out naked.  His two older sons went in and gazed at his nakedness, but his youngest son, Seth, being moved by compassion and respect, i suppose, walked in the room backwards (so that he wouldn't witness his father's nakedness) and draped him so he would be covered while he slept it off.  This episode has always moved me.  in my life, i make an effort to "drape" the vulnerability, frailty, or nakedness of others in a figurative sense.

is it ok to talk about the bible? to use to illustrate (not to preach)

The Bible is OK to discuss, but more in terms of how it is interpreted metaphysically, rather than literally... Most churches stop at literal interpretation or belief, but do not go into the metaphysical meaning on a personal level...

Going into this means diving deeper into Oneself, rather than just believing something outside that someone says.. Is it true for me? How can I apply or use this in my personal life? How will this change me so that I am more aware, more conscious, more loving, more compassionate? These are questions that may lead to deeper meanings that the Bible has...

Also, the Course in Miracles does not EXCLUDE the Bible... it just dives much deeper into it in my opinion. How does what the CIM teaches relate and support what the Bible says? These are all subjects for discussion and debate..
