Intercessory Prayer! (Being an intercessor!)
Parts of these teachings are from the book Intercessor by Norman Grubb, and may also come from other materials, which I will cite as needed!

"There are three things to be seen in an intercessor, which are not ordinarily seen in ordinary prayer: identification, agony, and authority." Quote by Norman Grubb.
An intercessor identifies with those he/she prays for, with a deep level of empathy, perhaps evens feels the same pain, the same sadness and the same need. Just as Jesus took our pain and sadness and hopes upon Himself and acts as an intercessor for the human race as a whole, the intercessor takes upon himself/herself that same pain and sadness, and even the same hopes, of the person prayed for. However, this is not destructive, nor bad for the intercessor, because the Holy Spirit and Jesus, are in control and by the intercessor's side. While the intercessor prays the Holy Spirit also acts as an intercessor. So when an intercessor prays, the Holy Spirit and Jesus are both acting as intercessors also.
New Christians and young Christians can very seldom act as intercessors, because an intercessor must have gone through a process of working through his/her own weaknesses, his/her own frailties and must have a strong foundation in faith. An intercessor must have given up the love of worldly things and selfish desires, because this kind of prayer will lead into praying for long nights over the sick, and long days over those entrapped by sin. Intercessors must put prayer before worldly pleasures and be, so to speak, on call, for as long as needed. Intercessors are led by the Holy Spirit and must be sensitive to spiritual matters. Intercession is a calling from the Holy Spirit.
Intercessors do feel agony along with identification. In many ways they have been inwardly crucified, and feel the very weight of sickness, sadness, sin, burdens and both hope and hopelessness. It is as if they have taken on the very essence of those needing prayer.
And intercessors feel an outpouring of love, the same love that Jesus feels towards all of us.
Intercessors also know and feel the Grace of God, towards themselves and towards others. They pray knowing that Jesus has died on the cross for all mind kind and carry the burden to Jesus, knowing He will bring salvation, heal, intervene and intercede. The intercessor feels the burden of those prayed for, and cries to Jesus for others as if crying for himself/herself, and then lets the Holy Spirit and Jesus take over. And the intercessor takes authority. Knowing that he/she has been give the gift of pray which is a spiritual battle against the forces of darkness.

You can pray or be a prayer warrior without being an intercessor. Each of us has a place in God's family, and God prepares us for the job he wants us to do. Jesus will answer the pleas of a widow, or the prayer of a young child, just as easily as the prayers of an intercessor. Intercessors have specific work to do with their prayers; however, all prayer is important.

One might get the idea that he is criticizing prayer warriors, but I do not believe he is criticizing but rather 'emphasizing' the level of commitment one must make in order to be an intercessor; and as an encouragement, relating the reward of being an intercessor.
We all are given gifts from the Holy Spirit, and we all have natural God given gifts also. Each of us is important to the body of Christ, as the Apostle Paul emphasizes in 1 Corinthians: chapter 12. We need to understand the gifts that others have been given, and embrace our own gifts, for we can not easily survive without each other.

Here are some quotes from the book; 'Rees Howells Intercessor' by Norman Grubb.
'Apparent failure may only be a stepping stone to greater victory.'
'If you have faith you can leave it in His hands and He will intervene at the right time.'
'It is not you struggling, but God doing, and you coming to know what God is doing.'
Ethiopian proverb, 'The man who has only God to look to can do all things and never fail.'
From, 'HOW YOU CAN PRAY WITH POWER AND GET RESULTS' by  Lowell Lundstrom.
'Intercessory prayer is love on it's knees.'
Intercessory prayer is an advanced stage of prayer in which the Spirit summons you before the throne of God.  In the bible it says, 'the earnest prayers of a righteous man has great power and wonderful results.' Intercessory prayer has greater power than you can imagine. Even the weakest become strong through intercessory prayer.
Marianne Adlard:
Marianne Adlard was born with a terribly disabled body which caused her to be bedridden all her life. She was unable to attend church, yet she prayed effectively every single day and brought Moody to her church, with an amazing revival, (hundreds rededicated their lives to Jesus and 400 joined her church); and Campbell Morgan, another powerful preacher, also was brought to her church through prayer, and both signed their names in her book. This happened even though she could not leave her bed.
Some intercessors:
1.] Moses
2.] Abraham
3.] Samuel
4.] Elijah
5.] The Apostle Paul
6.] Jabez
7.] Job
8.] King David
9.] you?

Do you ever feel as if you just don't know how to pray? That you just can not find the words to say? Everyone feels this way at one time or another. Even the apostles did. How did they overcome this? They asked Jesus to have the Holy Spirit to pray for them.
the Bible says that "through Him [Jesus Christ] we have access by one Spirit onto the Father." Ephesians 2:18, "the Spirit helpeth our infirmities [or shortcomings]: for we know not what we should pray" The Holy Spirit helps us to pray. Romans 8:26, "He that searcheth the hearts knoweth what is the mind of the Spirit, because He maketh intercession for the saints according to the will of God." John 6:65. Lowell Lundstrum explains that the original Greek  word that is often used for the Holy Spirit is Paraclete, meaning a special court appointed attorney who would stand by an indiviual and instruct him when he went on trial for an offence. This makes Jesus an advocate and the Holy Spirit a Paraclete; however you will not receive the full benefit of the Holy Spirit unless you have received the Baptism of the Holy Spirit. In Acts 2 the disciples received the Baptizm and outpouring of the Holy Spirit, but that is not all! We are all promised the Baptizm of the Holy Spirit, if we choose to ask. Lundstrum compares being born again 'to being given a glass of water to drink and being Baptized in the Holy Spirit as being thrown in the Lake!' If you pray, seek and knock, the Holy Spirit will be given to you in greater measure!

THE ARMOR OF GOD!
  EPHESIANS 6:10-20
10.] Finally let the mighty strength of the Lord make you strong. 11.] Put on all the armor that God gives so that you can defend yourself against the devil's tricks. 12,] We are not fighting against humans. We are fighting against powers and authorities and against rulers of darkness and powers of the spiritual world. 13.] So put on all the armor that God gives. Then when that evil day comes you will be able to defend yourself.  And when the battle is over you will still be standing firm. Even though intercessors are very involved in prayer they need to take time to study the Bible and review the basics from time to time, Regular study of the Bible is as vital as food is to the body, to keep the intercessor nourished and spiritually healthy!

EPHESIANS 6:14
14.] BE READY! Let the truth be like a belt around your waist, and let God's justice protect you like armor. [the breastplate of righteousness]. 15.] Your desire to tell the good news should be like shoes on your feet. 16.] Let your faith be like a shield, and you will be able to stop all the flaming arrows of the evil one. 17.] Let God's saving power be like a helmet,[the helmet of Salvation] and for a sword use God's message that comes from the Spirit. [the sword is the word of God.]
18.] Never stop praying, especially for others. Always pray by the power of the Spirit. Stay alert and keep praying for God's people. 19.] Pray that I will be given the message to speak, and that I will fearlessly explain the mystery of the good news. 20.] I was sent to do this work and that is the reason I am in jail. So pray that I will be brave and will speak as I should.

Jesus asked His disciples; as Intercessors,to pray for laborers to go and harvest for the need was and is very great. Everywhere you see lost souls and worldly troubles. Jesus knew that this was a great need and therefore wanted intercessors to pray. As an intercessors you should seek God's will in this.
How great the need is! How important your prayer and support is. Jesus asked us and has given us permission to pray for laborers for the harvest. This should be an unceasing prayer for the intercessors of today!

Praying Prayers that Penetrate Heaven!
("In all things we are more than conquerors through Him that loved us!") Romans 8:37
1.] You have been given authority to pray in Jesus name!
2.] Pray to God in Jesus Name! ("...God...hath exalted Him, and given Him a name which is above every name: that at the name of Jesus every knee shall bow, of things in heaven, and things in earth, and things under the earth; and that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.")
3.] Have faith in God's word!
4.] Pray the promises of God! "Produce your cause saith the Lord; bring forth your strong reasons...."Isaiah 41:21.  In prayer claim the promises that Jesus  and the Father (God), has given us. ("I can do all things through Christ which strengtheneth me.") Philippians 4:13
5.] Pray specifically! First, Praying specifically causes you to put your faith on the line and thereby strengthens you. Secondly, God wants you to be specific because he is teaching you to communicate with Him, trust Him, and to have authority in prayer. We are His children and He wants us to know this. He also wants us to do His work, and to do it with the confidence of a Kingdom administrator. When you pray know that God has the wisdom to answer prayer when it is His will. He won't give us anything bad, and he does want us to approach Him with our needs and wants. Finally be sure to thank Him and to praise Him!!

LEARNING TO LISTEN!
"And this is the confidence that we have in Him, that if we ask anything, according to His will, He hears us."
"Pamela Grey has wisely said, 'For one soul that exclaims, 'Speak, Lord, for thy servant heareth,'there are ten that say 'Hear Lord, for thy servant speaketh.'"
~The art to listening~
1.] "Be still and know that I am God~ Psalms 46:10.
God speaks through a still inner voice! My personal opinion; I like this one the best. A thought followed by deep inner peace, a nudge, a feeling, tested by the Bible, but you have to be really quiet to hear that still inner voice! Meditation helps with this one.
2.] "The heavens declare the glory of God; and the firmament showeth His handywork. Day unto day, uttereth speech, and night unto night showeth knowledge. There is no speech or language where their voice is not heard." Psalm 19:1-3.
God speaks through creation.
a.) The first concerning God's eternal power.
b.) God's faithfulness is also expressed. "It is of the Lord's mercies that we are not consumed, because His compassion will not fail. They are new every morning. Great is His faithfulness." Every morning the sun comes up. We breath air, rain falls on the earth, and every evening the sun sets. God cares for the sparrow, counting every feather, and does not forget them. God cares for the Lilies, and knows how many hairs are on your head.
3.] God speaks through prophets. through corrections, warnings and predictions and insights.
A.) Always compare the advice you receive with the Bible's teachings, to keep you from following wrong advice.
4.] God speaks through the Bible.
5.] Some men have heard God's audible voice; again, always compare with the words of the Bible.
6.] God speaks through the gift of tongues and interpretation;
again, always compare with the words of the Bible.
7.] God speaks through dreams and visions:
again, always compare with the words of the Bible, and pray!
8.] God speaks through the guidance of the Holy Spirit, angels, teachers, preachers, everyday occurances, and sometimes through strangers!
Prayer works as we are receptive to His answer!

In the 60's Christian Coffee Houses sprung up everywhere, and storefront churches made the scene. For the first time in a very long time the barriers came down; for awhile at least, and Pentecostals, Catholics, Lutherans, Methodists, Baptists and many other denominations joined together in churches, each other's homes, coffee houses, and outings to worship the Lord together. It was truly and amazing period of time for all. All these different denominations and Native Americans, African Americans, Hispanic Americans, Asian Americans, Middle Eastern Americans, immigrants and  those all around the world, businesspersons, street people, bikers, truckers, ex-drug addicts and ex-alcoholics were all receiving salvation, witnessing in the streets of the cities, visiting each other's churches and even being baptized in lakes and ponds. We all studied the bible together and prayed together effectively in power, and worshiped the Lord together. Giving one's testimony was a very welcome and normal event. Tent revivals in the 60's and 70's were common also. The Holy Spirit was really moving. I myself was witness to many, many miracles! Even the dark forces noticed us and would follow us and question us and try to persuade us that Jesus wasn't real. Even the teens held their ground and did not sway from Jesus.
The one thing that I seemed to have missed somehow, was the necessity of worshiping in the prayer closet. (A room chosen for prayer). This is where you gather your strength to go out another day. This is where you solidify your relationship with Jesus, and learn insights. This is where you have private worship with the Lord, and where he repairs your armor that you must clothe yourself in.
In this day and age we will be attacked from time to time by modern societies entrapment's, modern societies attitudes and behaviors and modern societies distractions. We will also see horrible and sad things happening. People will need our help whether they ask for help, or if we simply become aware of their situation. Sometimes we simply do not have the words we need or we do not know how best to pray, and that is when the Holy Spirit can lead us into prayer, speak for us!
