Another "Gun Free Zone" Tragedy.
-Dudley Brown
National Association for Gun Rights
Apparently it’s not enough for our government that the heroes in America’s armed forces risk their lives overseas defending our freedom.
These days, our soldiers aren't even safe here at home stationed on secure military bases.
On November 5th, a lone gunman murdered 13 fully-trained, ready to deploy soldiers, and wounded 29 more, in the most shocking terrorist attack on American soil since 9/11.
How was Nidal Hasan, a psychologist, able to take down so many trained soldiers? Because the government thinks its better to keep it’s armed service members unarmed . . .
That’s right. Our military men and woman are banned from carrying the weapons they are trained and trusted to use in the heat of combat.
President Clinton authored this asinine policy back in 1993 when he declared all military bases “Gun Free Zones.”
As you know, “Gun Free Zones” do nothing but assure criminals, and now terrorists, that they will find unarmed victims defenseless against a homicidal rampage.
Maybe I’m crazy, but I’d rather the soldiers delivered a barrage of bullets to end Hasan’s attack the second he opened fire.
I’d rather Hasan was dead and the heroes he murdered were still alive.
But because of Clinton’s ingenious policy of an unarmed armed forces, this psychopath methodically executed soldier after soldier before a local traffic cop could arrive on the scene.
If we didn't have “Gun Free Zones” and our armed forces were . . . I don't know . . . ARMED, Nadir Hasan would have met bullets instead of bodies.
I understand that Hasan graduated from a 4 year Medical program in 6 years. Not exactly what I would call an outstanding student...
Ok how scary...how very scary..................
I want this radical uncaring group out of MY White House.
Hoekstra: White House Blocking Investigation of Fort Hood Massacre
Tuesday, November 10, 2009 8:01 PM
By: Jim Meyers
Rep. Pete Hoekstra, the top Republican on the House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence, tells Newsmax that the White House intervened to keep him from obtaining critical information regarding the Fort Hood murders.
The Michigan legislator also warned that "homegrown jihadism" is a real threat to the U.S., and said a thorough investigation of Major Nidal Hasan, the Army psychiatrist accused of the Fort Hood massacre, would help authorities learn how to deal with it.
Rep. Hoekstra charged in a statement on Monday that the Obama administration was withholding information and demanded that the Central Intelligence Agency, Federal Bureau of Investigation, the National Security Agency and the Director of National Intelligence preserve documents relating to the incident for use in any future investigation.
Newsmax.TV's Ashley Martella asked him about that charge.
See Video: Rep. Pete Hoekstra talks about his attempts to get the truth behind the Fort Hood shootings - Click Here
"On Friday afternoon I asked the director of national intelligence [Dennis Blair] to get a briefing," Hoekstra said. "We were already starting to hear that Major Hasan had some connection back to the Middle East, perhaps some jihadist link, and I just asked the DNI: Would you share with me the information you have available at this time?
"He indicated that he would give me a call back and let me know. He contacted me on Saturday and said, I think we're going to make this work. A couple of hours later he called back and said, between the lines, I've been overruled by the White House. There will be no briefing for you this weekend, and early next week on Tuesday we'll give you a briefing.
"Well, there was no reason why we couldn't be briefed on the information they had at that time. I get suspicious when they don't give us the information that we're looking for, especially when they're going to give it to us in a very limited form, perhaps only to me and the chairman of the whole committee. That's when my suspicions were raised.
"Now [Monday] night they did come back and brief my staff and some senators on what they knew about Major Hasan and when they knew it, but it was already after most of this information had somehow been leaked to the media."
As to why the administration might want to withhold information, Hoekstra said: "There are serious questions about whether the FBI did everything appropriately and whether there was enough information out there, enough red flags out there, that reasonable people would have assumed Hasan should have been more closely evaluated than he was.
"I don’t know if that's it or not, and I won't know or have a better idea until I've had access to all the information...
"I've just made it very clear that I want them to preserve all the documents, all the information that deals with Major Hasan, because I want to make sure that we don't get to a point where, well, we can't find that information anymore. I want a full, thorough investigation.
"I'm not looking to pin blame on anybody. I believe that radical jihadism, homegrown jihadism, is a real threat to the United States. We need to learn more about it, how to identify it, and how to stop it. This could be a classic case that will give us some of that information."
Martella noted that intelligence officials reportedly knew months ago that Hasan attempted to contact al-Qaida. Hoekstra agreed that should have raised "a big red flag," and went on to say:
"But you need to put together the whole picture. The whole picture is that it appears he had contact with overseas jihadists, including perhaps people connected with al-Qaida. He made presentations and statements to his colleagues here in the United States that would lead one to believe he might have jihadist tendencies.
"Did all of this information ever collect in one place and give us a thorough insight into who he was? Or did the intelligence community have part of it, the Army have part of it, and was it stored in three or four different places so that it never came together to provide one coherent picture of who Hasan might be and who he might become?"
Asked why the Army did not act against Hasan based on the information it reportedly had, Hoekstra said "what we have seen during this administration is a certain political correctness that just makes many of us uncomfortable.
"It was only a few months ago that the secretary of homeland security said we're not going to use the term 'terrorism' anymore. We're going to call it 'manmade disasters.'
"The bottom line here is that if we are unwilling to call terrorism terrorism, we will ever be able to deal with it, confront it, contain it, and defeat it."
The following is from Team Sarah:
Thanks to our "embedded Texas patriot" in D.C., Anita, the White House agreed to lower their flags to half-mast in honor of the Ft. Hood massacre.
FYI...the White House/staff had no intention of lowering the flags...in fact, early Friday AM after the "closet Muslim terrorist" had finished his "atrocity against Army" warriors, the flags were raised to "full staff."
Incensed and incredulous at the POTUS and his staff/subordinates' complete disregard and disrespect for the dead, dying, and wounded in Texas...flying the Flag at "full staff" in D.C. was unacceptable to Anita ...a Patriot from Texas A & M and the mother of a Marine currently serving in Afganistan.
Anita burned up the phone lines in D.C. and in Texas...Congressmen/women...Governor Perry's office...White House...all heard from her as she "assaulted the arrogance" of the clueless bureaucrats who mostly despise our military...demanding that honor be shown by lowering the flags.
She was stonewalled, ignored, shunned...everywhere but in Texas.
When it became obvious that the Liar-in-Chief and his team were completely ignorant, insensitive and insipid toward the "atrocity" (not "tragedy") at Ft. Hood...
When it became obvious that Anita was not going to take "no" for an answer...
When it became obvious that Duty, Honor, Country deserved recognition...
When it became obvious that Americans true to the Red/White/Blue demanded "half mast" honor...
The clowns in D.C. lowered the flags...
Anita received a call from someone at the White House around 10:30 AM Friday morning..."Are you the Mrs. who called about the flags?"
She replied, "Yes."
"Well, the President has ordered the flags flown at half mast...we just wanted to let you know. WE NEVER THOUGHT ABOUT IT...THANK YOU FOR MAKING US AWARE OF IT!"
So now you know...THEY NEVER THOUGHT ABOUT IT!!!
Tell you anything about the allegiance of "our leaders?"
Where's my rope?
Anita is a true Patriot and she deserves a Hip, Hip, Hooray!!!!
she is truly appreciated for her dogged determination to see that our brave men and women in uniform are respected, rewarded, and revered for their sacrifice and "standing in the trenches" for our freedom!

Sometimes politicians do something that can not be forgotten or forgiven. It can be a little thing or something bigger. I faced this feeling with Jon Corzine when he threw families out of State Parks on the Fourth of July three years ago at 3:00 pm and then kept our parks closed for some time. Every year thereafter he threatened with closures to cut the budget.
I now have this feeling with President Obama, first for coming to NJ so much to campaign and now for the lack of commitment and compassion he shows toward our troops. A day late and a dollar short. But hell he did get the health care passed through. His main mission.
Ok now that video is a disgrace to our soliders - so glad I was not there on that street that day...I would be asking each and every one of your for bail money! I'll keep all my other comments to myself as my Mother always taught me if you can't say anything nice dont say anything at all..........
![]()
I wish you could all see the video because what struck me in it is that quite a few of the Muslims they were trying to talk to and hand flyers to - WALKED RIGHT BY THEM AND IGNORED THEM!
So maybe the ones who were celebrating the shootings should be rounded up and sent out of America and America can keep the ones who want to live in peace and freedom? In fact I think we should do the same thing here in Canada. Maybe if they have to go and live in third world countries for awhile they will learn how valuable the lives they currently lead are? Electricity is not reliable there, sewers do not work half the time and it is hard to get clean water in most places as well. But I doubt they would change their ways and besides, America believes in freedom of speech (though have to tell you not so much in Canada anymore) ..... This would be viewed here as Hate or FEAR mongering and I could have got them arrested for doing what they were doing .....

I always found it interesting that the warning bells were sounded early in the Clinton Administration. He was well aware of the danger yet President Bush had barely been in office when the attacks occured and he was the one blamed for it.
America, give your head a damn shake will ya!???
Wide open door, Ruby....wide open. People had better start investigating things themselves, in their own neighborhoods. We can rely on this government to protect us, not here not anywhere.
It was individuals that sounded the alarm on the 9/11 plans. Many tried to get someone to listen to them, very interesting stories. But no one connected the dots at that time.
We do not have the excuse now...we KNOW what we are up against.
WowSux, we are in for a very unpredictable three years with Obama in the White House. It is evident that he is having great difficulty making a decision on Afghanistan. It's very simple. Either bring them all home or move more troops in. There's no way he can avoid making one of those two choices. Now that we are experiencing what looks to be a terrorist related shooting, I can't help but think about the real terrorist sleeper cells right here in our country. What's their move now? Has it opened the door to more?
FT. HOOD ATTACK WAS TERRORISM
By DICK MORRIS & EILEEN MCGANN
Published on DickMorris.com on November 8, 2009
In his nationally televised remarks following the horrendous killings at Ft. Hood, President Obama never mentioned the T word. The attack was an act "of violence." No mention of terrorism.
In fact, the Ft. Hood shooting is the first terror attack on American soil since 9-11. But Obama, reluctant to take the rap for inadequate protections against such attacks, is doing everything he can to make it look like an adult version of the Columbine school shootings. We are treated to stories about the killer's dread of being sent back to Afghanistan and his deformed personality.
But, the fact is that Major Nidal Malik Hasan jumped on a table, yelled "Alah Hu Akhbar" and began the shooting rampage that killed 13 people and wounded 30 more.
Ilana Freedman, CEO and Senior Analyst for the Gerard Group International, which provides intelligence analysis for business and homeland security, describes Hasan as a "lone wolf terrorist" who acts without apparent coordination with any other person or organization. But that does not make him any less of a terrorist.
The dividing line, of course, between a terrorist and a psychopathic killer is political motivation. His statements right before opening fire would indicate that Hasan was motivated by fanaticism and a commitment to Islamic fascism, even though President Obama bends over backwards to avoid saying so.
Obama's refusal to call the attack terrorism, and to heed the warning signs about the porous nature of our security system that allowed it to happen on a military base, recalls President Clinton's deliberate decision to downplay the 1993 attack on the World Trade Center. He did not visit the site of the attack and treated it as a crime, promising to find those guilty and punish them, rather than to attack the international groups that funded and enabled them.
There may be no groups behind Major Hasan's attack, but the fact that he was an officer in the Army, with full access to a military base and its arsenal of weapons, while holding the views he did, is the first indication of a laxity in security under President Obama. This attack did not take place in a shopping mall or a school, where security procedures are, understandably, relaxed. It happened on the highest security place of all - a military base! That the military failed to spot the possibility of an attack and had no measures in place to prevent it must be laid at the feet of the commander-in-chief of that military: President Barack Obama.
Many commentators have warned that the diminution of security and the weakening of our anti-terrorist protections would leave us vulnerable to be hit again. Now it has happened. And the president is doing everything he can to blur the distinction between murder and terrorism.
It was his failure to understand the difference between an act of war and a crime that undermined President Clinton's administration's anti-terror efforts and led directly to 9-11. It would appear that President Obama is going down the same road of denial and minimization of political harm. There may be casualties at Ft. Hood, but Obama is determined that his popularity will not be among them.
Suzanne, of course it is MY opinion. It also happens to be the opinion of many experts. I am respectful and this is as good as it gets.
Ch Hardy, the overwhelming priority for this country is the economy. Although no one can forget that we have terrorist sleeper cells in our country, this shooting at Fort Hood is being treated like an inconvenience by this administration. It is getting in the way of pushing the healthcare bill which just passed in the House. This appears to be an administration that is short on multi-tasking and long on bankrupting our country. It's an odd agenda and scary. It's as though they don't want to think about the terrorist threats anymore.

Ava, you are referring to my post on GITMO? I appreciate your response. It was open for discussion. To suggest that we are having a free for all ranting session is far from accurate. We welcome your thoughts on this issue....

I think we can all agree that Islam is not a religion any of us know that much about. I had a muslim friend long time ago and would ask all sorts of questions but back then it wasnt a "big deal" to be muslim - this was pre 1st Gulf war. I am not sure where that friend is now but would love to find him and speak with him again just to ask those questions. He was a muslim, born and raised here in the US but her joined the Marines and he was a MARINE!
Until this murderer wakes up we wont know why he did what he did. I am still disappointed in Obama for what he didnt say when he first had the chance and now he is going to Ft. Hood on Tuesday - he should have gone sooner and yes at this point nothing Obama can do about Ft. Hood will make me happy. I think Obama is a disgrace over this situation.
WowSux, when I saw Deburca's avatar I nearly lost it!! and then your comment put me on the floor!! Ahhh, those were the days, huh? You are the funniest woman I have ever known!!
"I'm going to wash that avatar right out of my hair...do da do da...."
WowSox - Not pc correctness, people do have different views. You have yours and I would not put it to anything other than that is your view. Please have the same respect for others who post differently.

Bloodless President Barack Obama makes Americans wistful for George W Bush
'When the television networks cut to the President, viewers listened to him spend more than two surreal minutes talking to a gathering of Native Americans about their "extraordinary" and "extremely productive" conference, pausing to give a cheery "shout out" to a man named Dr Joe Medicine Crow. Only then did he briefly and mechanically address what had happened in Texas.'
We only considered doing so because there are some in Care 2 that do this. Not on any site I was ever a member of - but it is done. It is difficult to be a host and speak your mind trying to be objective at the same time.
We all have opinions and are very passionate about what we think and how we feel about things. It is somewhat easier for me to be objective because I am not an American. I understand fully the passions and anger and concerns of those of you who are.
For being the President who was supposed to bring your country together Obama has further divided it and his policies are bringing your country closer and closer to the edge of bankruptcy. He is fast turning your country into one of hand outs and not hand ups but I believe with the help of people like all members of this group - the tide will turn - next year and in 2012. What he and his mob vote in - will then be repealled in order to save your great Republic.
Until then passions, frustrations and anger will remain high and in some cases increase .... The Dems really should have paid closer attention to what the millions of people in Virgina were telling them. Their arrogance shall be their downfall ....
Northern, my whole point is not that what he did was not terroristic or horrible. My point is a religion should not be condemned because of one or some. I lost friends on 9/11, nobody hates terrorists more than me....trust me. Yet, I do not look at everyone who is muslim and say they are a terrorist. That kind of thinking is just not fair.
I am glad you and the other hosts decided not to operate with duel avatars. To me, credibility and honesty is everything. The thought that it was even considered, to be honest with you, bothers me.
"Ava is free to believe and state what she wants, as am I."
Why thank you Suzanne and I thank Ava and Wow for their statements as well. As hosts we could hide under other avatars and actually discussed doing so but choose not to because we did not want to be deceitful as hosts. We are who we are.
Even if we do not support current political ideas we do support our right to express ourself and should not have to hide. Will not hide ....
The following has now come out which causes further food for thought and I have to wonder why it is a newspaper in the UK reporting this and not one in America?
Fort Hood shooting: Texas army killer linked to September 11 terrorists
Major Nidal Malik Hasan worshipped at a mosque led by a radical imam said to be a "spiritual adviser" to three of the hijackers who attacked America on Sept 11, 2001.

Man, it did get a little nasty in here. I feel that even if this man did this based on HIS religious beliefs. It does not mean the entire religion feels the way he does. Who knows what wacko interpretations he came up with of what the Koran may or may not say.
I don't like to get in to the practice of blaming an entire group because of one or some. If that is the case than all Tea Partiers must be racist because as a Tea Partier I know they are among us. Is that fair.....HELL NO!
I think Ava was stating an opinion and got blasted so she blasted back. Nothing worse than watching people who could work together to the end we all want, destroy each other. No accomplishment there. Just more division.
Just my opinion, so have at it.

I may change it at a later date, or not.
Ava is free to believe and state what she wants, as am I.
Hi Ray
That is my point. No one is paying any attention to what they say on this thread. Everyone is just having a ranting free for all!
If you look up the thread a bit, you will come across this post which is what I was responding to regarding GITMO
Candace, what the democrats are going to realize as Obama's presidency comes to an end is that GWB did many things right for our country. So much so that this administration has kept many of his policies in place. They DID NOT listen to GWB with regard to GITMO and now we have one hell of a mess. The reason GWB left GITMO alone was due to the legal ramifications of closing it down and moving them to the US or to any country who would accept them. He knew it would be a nightmare and had to be strategized with research. Were they prisoners of war or terrorists? That was and will always be the issue legally.
My mantra is "George Bush will look like a saint in 2012."

"The GITMO situation is being confused here."
I wonder where THAT came from?
What does the incident at Ft. Hood have to do with GITMO, and where in any of Ob's comments is it mentioned?
The GITMO situation is being confused here. There are plenty of websites that can explain what an enemy combatant is.
The enemy combatants who have been captured since before the war started are those who don't wear a uniform but blow up buildings and Airliners in the name of their Jihad. Some of them are captured criminals who bombed the Cole, the African Embassy's, the first Towers and other attacks against American property or Military property. After the war was started, enemy combatants were also captured in Iraq and Afghanistan.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Guantanamo_Bay_detainees
Enemy combatants are under authority of military tribunals not American courts. That is something Obama is trying to change. He will fail. We have time on our hands. For him to bring them to the States to be tried as regular criminals will require their defense to start over their case. Also, there is the issue of discovery. For Obama to try to change a tigers stripes into that of a zebra will be a miserable defeat and not one that will reflect on his presidency to any good thing.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Enemy_combatant
I hope that when he is out of office, we can recapture those that he did free and put them back at GITMO. When the war is over, then the military tribunal such as what is the norm since the Nuremburg trials can try them.
or pathetic, is that after Obeewan's FIRST comment that SHOULD have expressed greif for the family's, praise for the officer that was wounded, etc... But it did NOT, it was a 10 minute stroke for his "wonderful" health care package...
What I find pathetic is that AFTER that he would even make a statement about this.... wait A DAY AFTER!!!!!
I just find it funny or pathetic that Obeewan, or anyone else would even be interested in what he has to say about this after that!!!!
He has shown his true colors! Anything he says now is an afterthought!
You do NOT get a second chance to make a first impression!
The above story is according to USA today. On the internet this morning are about 15,535 news articles » more to read!
I posted the above story as an update to the first one on this thread. Until the investigators are finished investigating there is a lot of speculation going on that is almost funny with the way it is being discussed here.
This is a town that's used to sudden death: More than 500 servicemen and women based at Fort Hood, a sprawling 340-square-mile installation, have died in the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan.
But having soldiers die on base from repeated gunshots from another soldier is numbing, said Dena McClain, a Fort Hood resident whose husband, Richard, is currently in Iraq with the Army's 1st Calvary Division.
"If you're at home, you want to feel safe," McClain said. "And now, suddenly, you're not."
Doctors and surgeons at Metroplex Adventist Hospital in Killeen, where the base is located, treated seven of the shooting victims, including one who was pronounced dead on arrival. Doctors scrambled to mend legs, arms, chests and heads shredded by gunshot wounds.
One soldier, hit by several gunshots, kept yelling, "Call my wife!" One woman was brought in, untouched by gunshots, but pale as a bed sheet and unable to stop shaking, hospital officials said. Over and over, she asked: "Why?"
Kelly Matlock, an anesthesiologist, treated four of the patients, all of them soldiers. "It was like someone shot someone in your family," she said. "It was very personal."

"If soldiers come to me and have problems fighting other Muslims, what do I tell them?" Hasan asked Osman Danquah, co-founder of the Islamic Community of Greater Killeen, in August.
"I told him, 'There's something wrong with you, and if you're here to gather information, we're not here to do anything against the government. We're here to worship,'" Danquah said.
In his radio address Saturday President Obama asked for patience while officials piece together what happened.
"We cannot fully know what leads a man to do such a thing," Obama said. "But what we do know is that our thoughts are with every one of the men and women who were injured at Fort Hood. Our thoughts are with all the families who've lost a loved one in this national tragedy."
Obama's aides were working to make way for him to attend a still unscheduled memorial service.
On Thursday, Hasan jumped on a desk and hollered "Allahu Akbar!" — God is great! — inside Fort Hood's Soldier Readiness Center before firing at soldiers and civilians gathered there, military and hospital officials said. Twelve soldiers and one civilian were killed and 30 others were wounded, some seriously, Fort Hood spokesman Col. John Rossi said. Authorities are calling it the deadliest shooting spree ever inside an American military base.
Hasan used a pair of non-military-issued handguns purchased locally to fire more than 100 rounds inside the center before being shot and subdued by two Fort Hood Police officers, Rossi said. Hasan was transferred Friday to Brooke Army Medical Center in San Antonio, about 150 miles southwest of Fort Hood. He was alive but unable to speak, he said.
"It's a kick in the gut, no doubt," Army Chief of Staff Gen. George Casey told reporters after arriving Friday at Fort Hood.
On Friday, soldiers and their families gathered in prayer vigils and counseling sessions, grappling with how one of their own could create such a calamity. Hundreds of soldiers and their families gathered at a football field on base Friday evening to light candles, sing hymns and say prayers for the victims of the attack.
Staff Sgt. Eric Mullins, 25, of the 1st Calvary, said he had been in the readiness center where the attack occurred just last week.
"Feels like it's not real yet," said Mullins, who attended the vigil with his wife, Trisha, and 2-year-old daughter, Lily. "It's crazy for soldiers to do this to other soldiers."
Earlier that day, in another corner of the base, 13 flag-draped coffins containing the slain victims were rolled, one by one, into the belly a C-17 plane in a solemn tradition known as a "ramp ceremony," said Rossi, the base spokesman. Around 300 soldiers in dress uniforms gathered to see them off, including one of the wounded soldiers who had been shot in the leg, he said.
"It's important to observe this tradition," Rossi said.
This tragedy has a recent parallel in Afghanistan, where an Afghan policeman shot and killed 5 UK soldiers who were training her and his cohorts.
It is devastating when soldiers cannot trust those who they truly must trust in a war/
My thoughts and prayers are with those at Fort Hood

OKAY! Send Burca back where she came from! She is not allowed to play with us here .... FYI this was the name of a poster on another site that was so Liberal it was ridiculous!
Do you all realize that every war that was ever fought was fought in the name of some religion or the rants of some crazy person somewhere? It is starting to be a sad world we live in and I believe this shooting was a jihad ....
This fellow had been educated at the expense of your government and by all reports here in Canada was not very good at what he did. His religious persuasions got in the way of his military duties ..... Country First - nope, with anyone who takes religion to an extreme it is religion first. Look at the mormon sect that marries how many women and has how many children??? I'm sorry but there are even those who will not allow their children to have medical treatment because of religious objections - was not that long ago a poor girl died because she was diabetic and the parents tried prayer over medicine .... RIDICULOUS!
This man was a radical extremist - to say he was cuckoo because of the war is just a lie - he never even went to war .... and did not do a very good job helping those poor solidiers who had been there .....
He apparently took delibrate shots at his victims .... but not before he gave a lot of his stuff away so it seems pretty planned to me .... There is the death penalty in that state is there not? I am not big on that punishment but no matter why he did it - I hope he pays the utlimate price that he sentenced all those innocent soldiers to.
This one is on Obama's head. Our government made it clear today that Obama must make a decision regarding Afghanistan or Canada is leaving.
Someone call?
I'm still a jackass and it is still Bush's fault.

All I can hear is from our old friend DeBurca' from WOW that it is GWB's fault b/c he started this war and that is what drove this mad man to do what he did yesterday!
I think the GITMO decision is a right horrible mess. I do NOT want them on US soil.

I'm sorry, but I do believe GWB did what was best at the time. He had to react immediately. There was really no time for stradegy and who plans for something like that to happen. I believe a lot of other great presidents would have done the same as GWB did in the same situation.
Nancy, I believe it is important to mention that he was Muslim because he was being harrassed by some for being against the Iraq/Afghanistan wars. It is significant in this situation to find out what drove the insanity.
Ch Hardy, interesting comment you made about wondering how long before they turn this into Bush's fault. If I were in this administration I would be EMBARRASSED to blame anything on GWB. This administration took a recession which was driven by the subprime mortgages and the real estate bubble and COMPOUNDED it in ways that are hard to calculate economically.
Candace, we are the "infidels" to them the nonbelievers. They hate Americans and all those who support us. Perhaps the shooter was afraid to go to Afghanistan for fear the Muslims there would shoot him for being in the American military.
In fairness to religion (any religion), you can not blame religion for the acts of extremists and crazies. It's just not fair to do so. Even if this man did do it on behalf of what he believed his religion called for, he was mistaken. I think more of the story will come out over the days... -Suzanne.
I'm sorry to disagree, but a spade is a spade. I will not make a general statement saying that they are all hateful because I know that to be untrue. But you have to look at the majority. Violence in the name of Islam seems to be quite popular these days and yes, Christians had their days with the Crusades. I would say the same then as I do now, It is not peaceful.
Other than the examples here in America, Just turn to what's been going on in the Middle East. And no, it's not a recent developement. The violence over the "Holy Land" has gone on longer than anyone can remember. I would not say that overall they are peaceful, that's just not true.
Support of my statement:
The Qur'an:
Qur'an (2:191-193) - "And slay them wherever ye find them, and drive them out of the places whence they drove you out, for persecution [of Muslims] is worse than slaughter [of non-believers]...and fight them until persecution is no more, and religion is for Allah."
Qur'an (2:244) - "Then fight in the cause of Allah, and know that Allah Heareth and knoweth all things."
Qur'an (3:151) - "Soon shall We cast terror into the hearts of the Unbelievers, for that they joined companions with Allah, for which He had sent no authority".
And there are defiantly more.
What is transparent about Obama is that "you don't let a crisis go to waste" compliments of Tim Geithner! So, he took the Fort Hood crisis and placed his personal agenda in front of it. I'm certain President Obama was not qualified to join our military when he graduated from Columbia...hence all records sealed for Obama.
Obama is done. Americans are finally fully awake.
Raymond - thank you - I was confused...
I was wondering why our boy's didn't wrap Obama up when he said that it is their job to die for their country, almost saying that they should have expected this guy to snap.
The way that he said this sounded almost like he was endorsing this idiots actions!
I didnt watch Obama's speech b/c the more he talks the more I throw up in my mouth. I am sick of his lack of attitude and how little he doenst care and it shows more and more. He called a press conference to talk about the situatioin at Ft Hood and then hardly mentioned it...what a jackass.
Ch H - I realize they don't carry weapons....it's a shame they don't.
I heard this morning the shooter is paralyzed. I would imagine he will be taken care of at taxpayer expense from here on in.
The whole situation is so very sad. I feel for those directly affected by this man's actions. Just so very sad.
On another note, I too saw President Obama's speech. It was really a shame how he finally came to discussing this situation. It should have been first and foremost. He has bad advisors and little experience. I don't think he truly makes the connection to the military. Which is a shame since he is their Commander-in-Chief.
True, there's much more to the story and we'll have to wait and see who this soldier really is...his computer will leave a trail....good and bad. I was surprised when I heard he yelled out "Allah" before he started shooting.
I'm sure we'll hear more later so that we can form our own opinions. God Bless America. We really need to go after the sleeper cells in America now. This event will have them charged up.
Our boys didnt wrap this guy up sooner b/c they were unarmed - Soldiers on a Military Base are not allowed to walk around with weapons - that is their home. The only one's allowed are MP's on DUTY and other Security Personal...this guy wasnt shot by another Solider b/c they didnt have any weapons. This guy knew that which I am sure is why he picked the location he did - not that it makes it any better but he could have walked into the auditorium next door and started to shoot military families over 600 people were in there...I am not condoning in anyway what this crazy ass fool did and I am glad that a woman took his ass out while wounded. That will be a blow to his ego for sure.
More to this story will be coming out in the next couple of days and weeks. If he survives they will question him and who knows maybe one day they will waterboard his ass to get more information. Oh I want to know who he voted for so that way like those on the left do - we can blame someone else other then the shooter himself, NOT!
Nancy, he was a muslim and apparently he did yell out God is Great or something to that effect, heard it on Channel 7 this morning. This still does not mean his religion forced him to do this. He acted from his own thinking and beliefs and the religion itself can not be held responsible for this.
Raymond, I am with you at being surprised and disappointed that our military didn't stop this shooter quicker. He knew what he was doing and where to do it for the best result.
What a shame.
I have heard this news over and over since yesterday and where I am, I have not heard one mention of him being muslim.
That's how it should be and thank you Suzanne and Ava for saying that.
Unless there is information to indicate that the shooting actually had something to do with his religion.
The news here in South Africa picked this up, I am surprised that I missed it the first time.
after he is done praising everyone about their health care debate he say's
"It is a soldier's JOB to die for his country"
WTF?????
Before he say's anything about being sorry or anything else?!!!!
I am ashamed that our army boys did not wrap this slug up on the spot!!!!!
Isn't it always the "shrinks" that loop first.
Yeah I saw that too Northern, it was DISGUSTING!!!!
When you have a President like Obama who won't support the troops
Well said Ava .... and I was disgusted when we were waiting to hear what he had to say about the shootings and instead he went on for several minutes about how good the conference on health care he was at had been so it shows where the priorities are in his administration ....
Our Canadians soldiers are fighting side by side with yours and if Obama is not going to follow through with what the General has suggested I want them all brought home ....
I'm glad you said what you said Suzanne about Islam. Blaming Islam for this tragedy is not a wise thing to do. Nidal Malik Hasan has been in the service of the United States for most of his adult life from what the news is saying.
How anyone can start making irresponsible allegations and gossip mongering at this point as to why he did it and what his mindset is, when the entire incident is barely 24 hours old is quite silly and irresponsible.
Maybe he was worried big time that if he should be deployed as a Muslim, that if caught by the Taliban or some other terrorist group that he would be tortured or beheaded because of being a Muslim US Soldier. They would consider him a traitor to Islam if he were to be caught. But who really knows?
Who is to say what triggered him. Fear I am sure played a big part in it. When you have a President like Obama who won't support the troops and increase troop numbers for safety over there, it wouldn't surprise me if that in itself isn't a fear factor for many active military people to snap.
It is best to wait and see what the investigators find out ahout him and why he did it. All this speculating is not much more than gossip and to trash Islam because of what that guy did is akin to bigotry.
You cannot currently send a star to Northern because you have done so within the last week
I am surprised too!
Well said Suzanne - I have said before and believe that the Muslim faith is onw of peace .... I think this guy had a lot of problems and we will find out more in the days ahead .... very suprised that he is still alive!
In fairness to religion (any religion), you can not blame religion for the acts of extremists and crazies. It's just not fair to do so. Even if this man did do it on behalf of what he believed his religion called for, he was mistaken. I think more of the story will come out over the days.
I only wish for these brave Americans who perished to rest in peace and that those they love will find peace once again. For the injured my thoughts are with you for a speedy and complete recovery.
God Bless America....
12 dead 31 injured.
A Muslim American unhappy with being deployed to Iraq started shooting specific targets. He was a psychiatrist and had obtained a lawyer to fight his deployment while at another base.
He had been speaking out about the war over the past year, making some strong statements about "rising up against the invaders".
He is wounded but not dead.
Islam, the religion of peace? I think not.
That is what I was reading also - how awful...you would think living on an Army base would be safe - I wonder how this will get back around to being Bush's fault?
I am thinking it may be a terrorist attack Hardy .... there was a graduation ceremony going on and I just heard it is pretty easy to get in ....
Please pray for those at Ft. Hood that can't get out of their homes and to their children! Pray that no one else has to die!

DEVELOPING: A mass shooting at Ft. Hood military post in Texas has left at least 7 dead and 20 wounded and one suspected gunman is on the loose, officials told Fox News.
A massive manhunt was under way for the suspect at large, Fox News confirmed. One person was in custody. The New York Post said that there were two shooters at the Army post massacre; other reports said there were three.
The attack apparently happened at Ft. Hood's Soldier Readiness Center. Army officials didn't know whether the victims were civilians or military personnel.
