WILL GARY JOHNSON, MARIJUANA TIP SCALES OF COLORADO RACE?
| POLITICAL

Colorado Gov. John Hickenlooper, a Democrat, is opposing Amendment 64, an issue on Colorado's November ballot that would legalize, regulate, and tax the sale of marijuana. Hickenlooper said the Amendment would send the wrong message to children -- that using drugs is "OK."

“Colorado is known for many things — marijuana should not be one of them,” Hickenlooper explained. “Amendment 64 has the potential to increase the number of children using drugs and would detract from efforts to make Colorado the healthiest state in the nation. It sends the wrong message to kids that drugs are OK.”

The Obama campaign is worried members of his liberal base who support legalization will vote for Libertarian candidate Gary Johnson (pictured), who supports legalization, while the Romney campaign is worried that libertarian-leaning voters who support the Amendment will also vote for Johnson. In a close race, the side who can best keep its voters from casting votes for Johnson will have the upper hand on Election Day.

Hickenlooper and former Republican Gov. Bill Owens are opposed to the initiative while some conservatives -- like Tom Tancredo -- have come out for the Amendment.

Tancredo, according to the Washington Times, has said at rallies that voting against the Amendment would be siding not just with the "nanny-staters, but with the cartels.”

Groups in favor of Amendment 64 have "stressed the economic benefits of marijuana legalization, saying the tax revenue after 2017 could top $100 million and support public services such as education." They have argued Mexican drug cartels currently get the money that could instead funnel into Colorado's economy.

The Denver Post editorialized that while Amendment 64 would limit marijuana sales to one ounce, "it would be next to impossible to prevent out-of-state visitors from buying several ounces at various outlets and returning home," which could make Colorado a national magnet for "marijuana users, growers and distributors."

The Post has run a series of articles about how the pro-marijuana initiative could open a Pandora's Box of ills if it passess and make Colorado the destination for pot-dealers and smokers.

A Public Policy Polling poll found 53% of Colorado voters support the initiative, while 43% were opposed. A Survey USA poll found 48% were in favor while 43% were not.

I am sure there will be some tipping but I think Romeny will come out on top of that one too! I heard several times where Romeny was ahed in Colorado..so I hope he stays that way!!!! And I hope Obama loses BIG time there!

Could happen but I sure hope not.

I hope Gary Johnson makes both candidates sweat on Election Day!

My thinking, is votes for Johnson will probably evenly split against obama and Romney....so no harm done!!!  A fair wash of votes imo!!!

That is what you hope for for our country David!?!? To make us sweat!?!? WOW!!!

If it forces Democrats and Republicans to rethink their positions on military involvement, spending, and marijuana,so be it..

David, don't be an idiot!  It isn't going to make them think twice about where they stand on military.  The only thoughts are what votes Johnson gets will take from the one who loses.  Thats it!  Voting for Johnson does NOTHING towards the goals of legal pot and the military!  WAKE UP!

David..What is it that makes you think taking votes away from one of the candidates is going to change the mind of someone who already feels the way they do about the person or the issues!? Have you noticed that we can not get you to change your mind on Romney and Obama and yet you think that by Johnson taking votes away from Obama or Romney is going to change peoples minds to think the way you do!?!? That's crazy David and so are you if you REALLY think this is gonna happen!! You must be living in a pipe dream...pun intended!!

History is on my side with this..most politicians are most concerned about winning elections. When they discover pro war and anti pot stances can cost an election, they are more likely to adopt those stances in the future. Remember, the Republican Party of Robert Taft was an anti-intervention party. Gary Johnson came out in favor of legalizing marijuana as a Republican Governor of New Mexico. He was re-elected in a state that is 2-1 Democratic

I still find it very sad that the most important issue in this election is the legalization of pot David.  I am more concerned about the economy, our weakness seen by other countries towards us and our children inheriting this big debt.   Being able to smoke pot on your street corner just is not a top priority to me, and I believe oh so many who are voting on Tuesday feel the same way.  Maybe when all of our troubles here in the US are put to rest and people are back to living the American Dream....then maybe we can discuss the legalization of pot....until then.....YAWN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I do think a lot of former Obama voters will go the Johnston route.  Which will not hurt Romney anyway.

BTW have any of you had a gander at the CROWDS turning out for Romney????

Legalization of marijuana is about more than the right to smoke it,It speaks to Civil Liberties in this Country,it speaks to true healthcare reform, energy independence and a whole lot more..

For some David....only for some! Most people today have got a long ways to go before they can think of ANYTHING other than house payments, car payments, groceries, kids, school, clothes, gas, getting to work, finding a job to work at, health insurance and the list goes on.....now you tell me most Americans are going to say "Oh Yes...we want to get pot legalized on the next election too!"..... before all the the rest of what I mentioned!? Not hardly!!!!

Yes Cam!!! I have been noticing that for about the past 2 weeks or more! And they appear to be getting bigger and bigger! It's like people are grasping for a bit of sanity for this country!!

History is on my side with this.

TAFT???  Really David?  Why don't you check out history for at least this CENTURY!  History is not on your side about this, not at all. Not even a little.  Not even during NAM!

As for your pot and healthcare, that's another lie.  Less than 10% of pot smokers use it for medicinal purposes and those 10% have alternatives that don't require smoking or injesting weed.  It's a cop out people use to justify getting stoned.  PROVEN FACT!  You keep posting that lie and I'll be here to correct it!

It's absolutely and completely irresponsible to vote for a candidate that will let you get high legally when we have the problems we face today.

Marijuana legalization will create new jobs..making it easier for people to make house payments, pay for groceries etc! and Michael when marijuana is legal more doctors will recommend it without fear of federal prosecution. In short Marijuana is the ANSWER for the problems we face..I'm voting Gary Johnson!!

Also Michael-FDR's New Deal came as a result of Socialist Party candidates winning local elections and getting substantial votes nationally. The Republican Party's Southern Strategy is a result of George Wallace's 1968 Third Party candidacy..Our National Debt problem got national attention due to Ross Perot's candidacy.. A third party vote is not a wasted vote!

Our National debt problems are because of an irresponsible government spending money like there is no end to it... in spite of the fact they KNOW there is none to spend David!!! And Obama has doubled and tripled that debt purposely in order to sink our country! You go ahead and use your selfish stupid motives of voting for someone who will try and legalize your pot habit so you can smoke in peace without fear of getting caught but you will lose time and time again! The amunt of people in this country that use pot or want it to be legalized under the flase assumption it will create jobs and will help the medical industry are outnumbered by those who don't at least 10 to 1!!! Thank goodness we don't have the number of people who think the way you do on this issue David!! Your vote is a wasted vote all the way around!!

Everyone is making complete sense...except David.

At least you're voting David, even if we disagree with you.  It bothers me to hear people say that they aren't going to vote because their idea of the perfect candidate isn't running.  No candidate is all things to all people, but, seriously, Gary Johnson? When will the Libertarians have a more conservative candidate?...and they are out there.  Not all are cut from the same cloth as Johnson or Paul.

Well.....if pot is legalized...the money they make off of it, I hope is enough to go for all the healthcare and rehab costs it's going to cost, plus the increase in car insurance due to driving while stoned, the children who will need extra help in schools for being absent and asleep in class, oh, and help for the obese because I heard it makes you want to eat after smoking dope....which in turn causes more heart attacks and diabetes due to being overweight.....I could go on and on...but I think you get the point...well....maybe not!!!!!

Legalizing pot is not the answer......but go ahead and waste your mind and live in the pot world because the real world is passing you by!!!  Just sayin'!!!!

Israeli company grows medical marijuana which doesn't get you high
2 years ago

By Adam Williams, July 6, 2012

Situated in an undisclosed location near Tzfat, northern Israel, is a government-approved medical marijuana plantation which was founded in 2004 by a retired biology teacher. Named Tikun Olam, the plantation has created a new cannabis strain which contains very low traces of tetrahydrocannabinol (THC), the main constituent in cannabis responsible for making people feel "stoned". By virtually eliminating THC in the new strain, Tikun Olam can now offer the drug's medicinal benefits to those patients who wish to keep a clear head....

Although many patients feel the intoxicating effects of THC to be a beneficial element of medical marijuana use, others find it a hindrance to performing every day activities and so welcome the opportunity to take the marijuana while maintaining sobriety.

"It's a huge advantage," said one of the ten patients to make use of the Avidekel strain in the last six months, while speaking to Reuters, "I can smoke during the day, function with a lot less pain and still be focused, work and drive. It is a great gift."

Recreational use of cannabis is prohibited under Israeli law, however the drug is currently used medically to treat roughly 9,000 people suffering from illnesses such as cancer, Parkinson’s disease, multiple sclerosis and Crohn’s disease...

Marijuana that doesn't make you high? ...that would certainly cut down on its use by a LOT of people.  Some doctors give prescriptions for medical marijuana for the flimsiest of reasons to people who only want it to get stoned, not because they are truly seriously ill.

Sending a Green Star is a simple way to say "Thank you"

You cannot currently send a star to Sandra because you have done so within the last week.

A third party vote is not a wasted vote!

David, in this election, a third party vote is a WASTED VOTE, or a vote for Obama, however you want to look at it!  Your hype won't sell here.

Dr's are NOT going to recommend that people SMOKE as part of their medication!  Your hype won't sell here!

Legalization of pot is all about getting HIGH, not for health reasons!  Pot heads using legalization of drugs for medicinal purposes are trying to make excuses for getting HIGH.  92% of pot smokers ABUSE THE DRUGYour HYPE won't sell here!

Before you start pushing FDR's reign on war, you should study a little bit about his involvement in the war.  You might also take a look at which party is responsible for getting us in wars and which is responsible for getting us out.

Your praise for Ross Perot being the light to our govt's deficit is also WAY off base!  You need to go back to Eisenhower for that issue.  Try studying facts instead of your parties talking points, you just might learn something that's real and not fabricated.

Some doctors give prescriptions for medical marijuana for the flimsiest of reasons to people who only want it to get stoned, not because they are truly seriously ill.

This is so very true!  As one comedian states, his prescription is for depression.  He gets depressed when he runs out of weed so he gets a doctor to give him a prescription so he doesn't run out.  Yeah, there's a real doctor and a real medical need!

Imagine what would happen in this country if the only legal pot was pot that didn't get you stoned!  Of course David and friends would find another reason to whine, proving it's all about getting high and not for medicinal purposes.

The amunt of people in this country that use pot or want it to be legalized under the flase assumption it will create jobs and will help the medical industry are outnumbered by those who don't at least 10 to 1!!! Thank goodness we don't have the number of people who think the way you do on this issue David!!-Carol Well Carol, the reality is that it DOESN'T take a majority of people to change things in this country! As my friend, and former political mentor, the late American Indian Movement leader Russell Means once pointed out,it only takes 2-3% of dedicated people making life tough for the others for change to happen. I expect marijuana voters to be making a difference today on Election Day!

The good news is, if they do, I know which state will never see my tourism dollars again.  I'm pretty sure I can muster more than a mere 2 - 3 % to do the same.  Then you all can live off your pot money, killing each other and wondering what happened cause you were too stoned to figure it out.

Marijuana Legalization is WINNING in Colorado!!

Well David...I hope you are happy voting the way you did and everyone else who voted 3rd party because now you got a REAL challenge on your hands and guess what!? In 4 more years you will have the same challenge and you will lose then too! And mark my words....I think you may just see the same kind of results on trying to bring in a 3rd party!!
