We already know that unborn babies can stretch and even hiccup in the womb, but new university research confirms that they also yawn.
There has long been debate about whether fetuses really are capable of yawning, or whether they are just opening their mouths.
As part of a study published in the international journal PLOS ONE, researchers looked at 4D scan footage of 15 healthy foetuses and examined how long their mouths stayed open for.
Using their newly developed criteria, the research team found that over half of the mouth openings observed in the study were classed as yawns. Read more from this story HERE.
Here’s a 4D ultrasound video of the yawning:
This is just beautiful Carol.....so precious. Soon our new Grand-baby will be yawning in the womb too......loving it.
Isn't that something Maui to know they live the outside life inside the womb!? It is amazing and to think that some women do not consider this a LIFE!?!? God help us!!!!
Just think,at one time when we were in the womb,we were doing the same thing!they just didn't have the knowlage or the technology to know it.
This shows that in the womb,we are human beings, and deserve to be born, and live out our natural lives.Abortion is wrong. The baby lives, breathes, yawns, and does al the same things we humans do outside the womb.I bet the baby is also aware of sounds outside the womb too!
Oh Yes Ancil..they are!! I know some people will listen to soothing music while laying down and rubbing over their tummies in order to relax the baby! I wish I would have known all of this stuff when I was PG!! I did a lot of things that I should not have when I was PG..smoke, drink, dance and back in that day and age none of this don't do this or don't do that if your pg was out there! Thank God all of my kids are pretty healthy! My oldest son was born with a heart murmor and one extra disc in his spine though and I always wonder if what I did then was maybe the reason for this.. That was back in the late 60's!!
Maybe you will be able to get to see some of these Maui! Wouldn't that be something! I can never understand those sonograms because everything looks like a blob to me..LOL Unless of course you can see the outline of them clearly..then I can kind figure out where everything is.
Don't be too hard on yourself Carol,My mom admited to smoking Kools when she was carrying me(I was born in '61) and allthough I was born underwight a little(I was 5 pounds,5 ounces at birth) and I had digestive problems at birth,I grew up ok.It was the 60's after all, people didn't know as much then,as they do now.Nobody's fault, you went with what you knew back then.I'm sure poeple back then would have done things differant if they knew then what we know now,but we kids born then turned out pretty darn good anyway!!!
Those sonograms are amazing to watch Carol.....they had a video of Olive that we watched and to see her in the womb moving around is so moving. Of course...they had to point out a few things to show us what we were looking at. The 3D ones like the one above really gives you an idea what your baby is going to look like......I can't wait when it's time to watch one for our new Grand-baby!!!
The 50's and 60's were a different era and no one knew about the do's and don't's of being pregnant......but I'm sure there were just as many healthy babies born then as there is now.....don't question yourself Carol at all......you gave birth to beautiful children....that's what you will remember.
