On Lou Dobbs show last night he had a 30 minute discussion with 4 physicians about health care in America:
Dr. Benjamin Carson
Director of Pediatric Neurosurgery, Johns Hopkins Hospital Children’s Center
Author, “Gifted Hands” “The Big Picture” “Think Big”
2008 Recipient of the Presidential Medal of Freedom
Dr. Donlin Long
Distinguished Service Professor of Neurosurgery, Johns Hopkins
Dr. Daniel Foster
McGarry Distinguished Chair and Professor of Internal Medicine UT Southwestern Medical Center
Dr. Howard Weiner
Professor of Neurosurgery and Pediatrics at NYU Langone Medical Center
It was the most on-point, intelligent, informed and logical conversation I've heard on MSM since the so-called 'health care reform' debate started.
I can't embed these vids because they are on CNN's site, so...

Katii,
I didn't get the video link to work. They mention the AMA CPT billing codes in the story. I understand the AMA stands to make a lot of money on their copyrighted billing system codes. I'm sure these are useful, but the AMA's monopoly on these codes means they are not necessarily objective representatives of doctors.
This thread is so not about "Lou Dobbs."
CPT codes? So we ditch those if they are unfair (which apparently they are if we listen to doctors who are forced to use them for billings) in favor of a new or different system.
I would be interested in hearing what others glean from the video (Dan, the link works for me. maybe 'copy link location' and copy/paste it?) or transcript that they do like - if anything. Did any of it make sense to you? Were there ideas offered that you would like to see implemented in world of medicine?
I'll try the link again. I thought Lou Dobbs had an excellent series a couple months ago on the various health care systems around the world. It was very informative to see the wide range of systems in Europe and Japan. On one side is Sweden where everyone is required to use the exact same system, another approach is that used by Switzerland where the system is totally private with no employer involvement. Satisfaction rate varies considerably among the different countries too.
- CNN's Lou Dobbs is leaving the network at the end of his show Wednesday night, the controversial anchor and commentator announced on the broadcast.
"Over the past six months, it has become increasingly clear that strong winds of change have begun buffeting this country and affecting all of us, and some leaders in media, politics and business have been urging me to go beyond the role here at CNN and to engage in constructive problem-solving as well as to contribute positively to a better understanding of the great issues of our day and to continue to do so in the most honest and direct language possible," Dobbs said during his 7 p.m. broadcast.
Dobbs, 64, said he discussed the issue with CNN President Jonathan Klein, who agreed to release him from his contract. The move "will enable me to pursue new opportunities," said Dobbs.
I guess we'll have to wait and see, Mary.
David, Mary, I'm going to move your posts to the this thread: What did Lou Dobbs say... that I opened earlier in response to Buck's and Knate's posts about Lou Dobbs in this thread so we can carry on the discussion of Dobbs' leaving CNN and whatever his sins are relating to illegal immigration (after a little research a few minutes ago, undoubted the two subjects are related) without de-railing this one.
This doesn't really fit here but it is about health care. On MSNBC Nov. 6, former Republican Congressman Tom Tancredo walked out during a discussion about health care with Markos Moulitsas and David Shuster (who was filling in for host Ed Schultz). Tancredo's responded that there are problems in the Veterans Association's system and said that his liberal counterpart in the debate should talk to more veterans. Moulitsas, a veteran himself, swung back. The Daily Kos founder brought up the fact that Tancredo -- a Republican student activist during Vietnam -- got out of serving in the war.
As Tancredo railed against health care reform, Shuster raised the question of whether the Veterans Administration -- a single-payer system -- is also a "threat to our freedom."
"I did not get a deferment because I was too depressed to fight in a war that I supported in Vietnam," Moulitsas said.
When Tancredo didn't get his apology, he left the set.
wah wah Waaaah! Markos kind of slammed him.

Apparently Tancredo is going to run for Governor of the state of Colorado.
