I don't intend this to be another vegetarian/vegan/omnivore/carnivore thread...........not that those issues are not important and worth discussing of course, they are.
But what I had in mind was more of a "how far is it to run to the bathroom" thing.
Prompted by the fact I just had tripe for my lunch, something that would send a lot of people I know an attractive shade of green!
So.................what wouldn't you be able to stomach? What "strange" foods would you eat?
Charlene will not eat kugel.
...
Kugel (Yiddish: pronounced either koogel or kigel, as was pronounced in Galicia) is any one of a wide variety of traditional baked Jewish side dishes consisting of ground or processed vegetables, fruit, or other starches combined with a thickening agent (such as oil, egg, or flour). It is sometimes translated as "pudding" or "casserole".
Kugels may be sweet or savory. The most common types are made from egg noodles (called lochshen kugels) or potatoes and often contain potatoes, but there are recipes in everyday use in modern Jewish kitchens for a great diversity of kugels made with different vegetables, fruit, batters, cheese, and other flavorings and toppings.

YOu know, when people ask about my food dislikes etc. (perhpas if we go out to dinner or something), I always say that I eat everything but rattlesnake. Then one time my husband and I were visiting people in Pittsburgh. We went to a restaurant and I basically said that I eat anything. Welll, wouldn't you know it, they had rattlesnake pierogi on the menu as an appetizer. They said, let's have an order and sahre! I had to pass. I don't even remember if my hsuband had any.
I will not eat almost any food that my sister cooks. She is the only person I've actually known to have burnt water (and the pot). ![]()
She once cooked green beans in a pressure cooker for over three hours!
Even the dog wouldn't eat'em! ![]()
I don't like peas, but I will occasionally consume them to prevent arguements.
Tofu is not food, you can't even catch fish with it. ![]()
Other than that, I'm usually game to try stuff at least once. I've never understood how someone can "hate" a certain food, when they've never even tried it. ![]()
I cannot even imagine eating a slimey oyster that reminds me of something I have seen in surgical nursing. It is slimey and runs down your throat off the shell and I shudder and gag at the thought.
One time we had a pot luck lunch and my boss brought his favorite dish, which was curried okra. It was also slimey and green. No no no
I find eating escargot in garlic butter a lot like eating erasers in garlic butter.
And although I grew up in South St Louis where on every corner was a tavern that sold long necks and short glasses along with fried brain sandwiches. I don't think so.
I have never eaten it but I would not touch gefilta fish, dried fish with eyes, anchovies. But strangely enough, I love liver with onions and bacon. go figure.

LOL this thread is funny! I love okra any way you present it! Especially in vegetable soup made from scratch. And I LOVE liver and onions. Bring it on!!! But I can't eat a fish if I've seen it's eyes. I boycotted tilapia because I saw an aquarium in an Oriental store and I saw one with very imploring eyes. It's all over now lol!
I don't eat fish or seafood simply becase the smell and taste makes me feel like vomiting. I saw a tray of baby octopuss at a restaurant once, creepy little things. And I can't stomach the thought of offal... ![]()
But the thing that I really can't stand is visible veins in my meat. I have to cut them all out or I simply can't eat it. Weird.
I don't mind tofu. I just get scared that it might be GM.
