I think this is more a responsibility issue. We are the ones who destructed the panda’s environment, we cut the forests, and then… we’re the ones to say they’re not adapted enough, not strong enough to survive.
We should be aware that we’re part of a network, that we’re connected with everything that’s living on Earth. When the connection points in this invisible net disappear, we lose the diversity of the biosphere and a cataclysm or something similar can easily destroy what’s been left of this net. Even if pandas seem to be expendable, they do have a role in their ecosystem.
What makes me mad is that we apply the rules of the animal world in the human society. For animals, it’s true that the fittest survives, but in the human world, this law should not exist. This is what makes us human: our ability to feel compassion, our ability to help our impaired or disadvantaged fellows (read handicapped), our ability to give a chance to the ones weaker than us. When I see a guy on TV saying that the strongest competitor, business, etc. survives, it makes me sick, because I know that this principle is sending us back to the animal world and is bad education for the young generation.
