My name is Sherri. I am a native Floridian even though I've lived other places since my father was in the military. He retired here to FL so now I'm back home. I live in Polk county with my husband, step-son and my fur-babies. We live by a lake so I get to see all of the water birds and other lake life when I walk the lake. I love it here. I travel for work and have seen more cold weather and snow than I ever wanted.
Good morning all! Let's see....Well, I was born in Hollywood, Florida and my parents moved here to Central Florida when I was young. I've been here ever since. I currently own a home in South Daytona with my husband of 11 years. I am 33 and I've known my husband since I was 14. I was in banking for 13 years and left a couple years ago to help the hubby with our business we bought. We have 3 dogs, 1 cat and 1 bird. I don't have any kiddies, but would very much love to have one. Speaking of, I posted a link to a petition that I started in another discussion. I'll post it here too in case you can't find it...
So thankful for this group! I'm a native Floridian. My first (and only so far) experience with almost snow was a fluke this past April when my son had a special event to attend in Washington DC (People to People). We saw the flurries covering a few areas between the mountains and DC and pulled over to roll it in our hands after scraping it off the ground. It was so exciting! I'm sure people drove past the restaurant and thought "yep those Florida nuts"!
Our insurance carrier, Nationwide, announced they were dumping us after 15 years(pulling out of Florida) so any posts on insurance carriers accepting homeowners would be appreciated. Like most people, our bill more than tripled so I won't be surprised by a higher bill, just need insurance.
My tomatoes are flourishing this year with the upside down method. Pineapples everywhere. No time for strawberries this year. Beautiful weather. That'll do it on me.

Hi all, I've lived in mid-Pinellas county for 14 years. I'd love to meet some new friends here in the area. If you view my profile, you'll see that I'm in the vast minority here at this site, but that's OK with me. If you are like-minded. or if you're not but you do practice tolerance, and you're in the Tampa Bay area, drop us a line. Oh and I'm not really 107, I'm let's say an uber-experienced 29. Thanks and God bless.
Hello, all. My name is Laura. I grew up in Lakeland and look to eventually move back. Even though I live in Vermont, I still consider myself a Floridian.

Just moved back to Fl. after living in Ga. for 30 yrs. I live in the Dade City area and have not had the oppurtunity yet to find things to do that would interest me. I am definately more the outdoors type and would love to find a wildlife center or nature groups. My special interest would be wild plants, edible and medicinal useage. I was a instructor at Wildlife Center as well as one for Ga. Women In The Outdoors.
Hello from Pinellas Park! November 11, 2006 5:56 PM
Love Florida! After my youngest got married in 2002, I sold every thing I owned, including my car...loaded a rental with the rest and headed for sunny Florida! Loved it, stayed!
However, the next year....Hurricanes, in bunches! My oldest daughter lives here (for 12 years). She says I made the hurricanes come!! Well, this year it got quiet again. I wonder what she will blame on me now????
I used to laugh, the first year. It was November and her kids were leaving for school. She was yelling at them not to forget their winter coats! It was 70 degrees!!! Well, in 2006, I now have a coat!
OH! Another thing I have noticed. The official Florida Winter Wear!! A heavy coat (like a varsity jacket), a hat or scarf, with......shorts and tennis shoes! Works for Floridians!!!
Many Chambers of Commerce offer free information on their area. You can write to the Chambers of Commerce of the city in which you'd like to move to or many are available on line. There are also many real estate sites were you can look at apartments or rentals and they too send out free information. Hope this helps. Good luck on your move and welcome to the sun shine state.

Hello, My name is Al. I am a native to Florida and was raised in Volusia County. I have lived in Deltona my whole life, but in a few weeks I will be moving to Tallahassee to attend Florida State. Just a question: How many Carl Hiaasen fans are out there?
Hi, I'm Debby, 48 for 6 more days, divorced, living in St. Petersburg with my 16 y/o daughter and lots of pets!
I've been down here for 20+ years, but grew up in Philadelphia, so that makes me a "kinda-native", right?
I have lots of interests and support lots of causes - check out my profile if you'd like to find out more about me. I'm always looking to meet new friends!
I'm sooo happy that I found your group!! Hello to Everyone!!
My name is Janet, I'm 40 (when did that happen??) and a mother of two (17 and 15). I am 5th generation Native Floridian, and terribly proud of that fact. :o) I was born, and grew up, in St. Petersburg (my kids too), though I reside in Tampa at the moment. I love Tampa...but do miss St. Pete. Chris, my hubby, and I are in apt. maintenance and we move alot (transfer)... I look forward to when we can transfer back across the bridge. :o)
I look forward to getting to know everyone!! ~Janet
Hello my name is Zissy pronounced Sissy and I come to you from Arlington, MA. I was born in Okeechobee Florida and raised mostly in the Brevard County area but I lived all over Floirda. I didn't leave physically until '98 but I will always be a Floridian and I'm proud to say that.
I saw this group on here and thought it would be a great place to check in on. I moved back here a year ago after spending 12 years in Texas. It's great to be back!!!!
[report anonymous abuse]
Thought I should introduce myself. No sense belonging to anything and not participating. I am new to this and not quite sure how it all works, but I will figure it out. It will just take me some time.
Anyway, I live in Orange City, and just waiting to see what this tropical storm will do.
I am married, have 2 grown daughters who are both married, 3 grandbabies, a hubby, and a fur baby, Beulah Mae..... She is a beagle and the love of our lives. She rules the roost. We are just her humble servants. HA HA..
Anyway, anything else you want to know, just ask me. I'm an open book.
Glad to be part of this group and this care2 community. There is so much we can do, and some things we are not even aware of. I love animals, care about people, and so much more.
Thanks for having me. Just wish this had spell check. HA HA
I love living in California & have been here for two years. My career as I know it is apparently over though secondary to a work related injury. Very sad to hear about that. I'm not sure what I will do.
I grew up in Massachusetts & initially moved to Florida, Port Charlotte in June of 2002. We were only there for 6 weeks when our in-laws needed assistance in WA state. So, off to WA state we went. They live in a very moderate climate there about an hour west of Seattle. Well, I still wanted the warmer climate for my health & we came south to California as soon as we were able. All of my siblings & my two married sons & only grandchild are in New England. My body has not yet acclimated to Pacific Standard Time! What is w/that? I used to be asleep between 9-10 PM but can't fall asleep before midnight in almost 4 years!
Well, we rent an apartment for $1200/mo, a one bedroom apartment. On the news last night it said the cost of housing here is about to skyrocket again! I can't believe it's even possible! I said to my husband that when we retire we should go to Florida. He agrees. I'm not sure where we might land @ that time or sooner. But, I don't think I can tolerate the cost of living here much longer. With my income shot to hell in handbasket, I really wonder how we will ever make it here.
Any suggestions for locations? Cost of living? Areas where employment is possible?
Good Evening! I live in Caldwell, Texas but was born in Miami, Florida in the old Mercy Hospital.
I have 3 children, my daughter Luana is married with twin boys, my oldest son is going into the Marines soon and my youngest son is 15 and will still be at home with me. I also have a hugh family on my ranch, 2 Arabian mares (Shula Mia & Dark Mune), 4 Arabian fillies (Domino, Bonita, Mia & Falene), a Donkey (Bobby), 6 Dogs (Kuros, Mena, Mayie, Venus, Lil Bit & Rosco).
My husband has a stroke last year (at age 42), so I now work 2 jobs. I work full time has a Coporate Accounting Assistant/Secretary for some bakeries and I work part-time has a merchandiser.
I have lived in Miami, Sweetwater, Carol City, Opa-Locka and Hollywood (on the reservation with my father) in Florida. I intend on going to visit this year, has I have about 80 relatives there and my husband and I own some properties in Port Charlotte and Port Malabar.
Thanks for letting me join this great group. Also thanks for the post about Florida cities.
My name is Myla, but my father calls me Wind Horse, so either is fine by me. Again thanks and I hope everyone has an awesome 2006 year!
Hi people....my name is Walter (duh, says that on my little pic) and I just wanted to say hello and introduce myself. I am originally from Miami, FL. and now live in Alabama. What a difference! Hi everyone, I used live in Ft. Myers and have moved away to a much warmer state (minnesota). Have missed Florida and can't wait for that next moment I get come back. Hope to meet others.
everyone...... All is welcome to post whatever they wish here just so long as we respect everyone's opinion. It would be good to post on some of Florida's issues and to discuss how we might be able to better improve. I have nothing against posting things that are not so sunny because we can discuss how to get the clouds to move so we can see the sun.....
Must All Themes Be On Sunny or Does Sunshine Allow More December 24, 2005 9:01 AM
I am a new member here and at the whole site. As you might suspect from my photo, I am a bit old-fashioned in my values. Click on it and you will see, I am a bit rigid in expectations.
But I am aware that sunny may be how the weather must be here and if so far be it for me to cast a cloud much rain in the Sunshine State group, but it does say "all things Florida" and as someone who has basically been there for half a century and is a graduate of elementary, junior high, and high school all in Florida and three of its major universities, it can honestly be said that much more rain and other nasty weather exists below the horizon.
Would it be wrong to bring up some of the less pleasant items of Florida primarily for educational purposes as well as for exposure, which in combatting all powerful things evil is the best remedy.
For honesty, it must be conceded most would prefer to believe that we live in a florida fantasyland without failures and falsehoods. If okayed, I will set up a new thread on my current most compelling interest of over a full decade now. If not okayed, I will just glory in the wonderful winterland Florida is with snow arriving no more often than once or twice in the longest memories of those north of Orange County and our state can retain its lustrous veneer, here.
What do Floridians want from government? December 12, 2005 1:00 AM
Yes, it is that time again folks. Starting January 1, 2006 the race for Governor is back on. The reason I am here was due to an invite from a member. I do have a basic website up but I am asking those in Florida to help make it a better website. I have been asked to run many times for a state office and that many people here would vote for me based on our conversations. I want the website to reflect the needs of Florida and not the wants of the others who just place up a website and say "Pick me." Win or loose this will place pressure on those elected to do what us in Florida respond to best.
I do have several ideas which reflect several care2 petitions I have put my name to and now I am taking a firm stand by placing my name out there. Help me help you, www.yarrowgovernor.org together we can make Florida a better place in many ways.

New Peace Alliance group in S.Florida September 27, 2005 7:06 PM
This is a great group! My son and I live in Ft. Lauderdale and I am relatively new to Care2Care.
My passion is to Promote Peace. As a result, I am hosting the South Florida Peace Alliance. Please do not hesitate to add yourself to our group if you believe that together we can "Create a Culture of Peace!" My group is local to South Florida (Broward/Dade/PalmBeach Counties), but I am in contact with coordinators throughout Florida if you would like to join the effort in other areas of Florida.
The Oceans By The Seaside September 17, 2005 8:54 PM
Edward, I don't dive anywhere except in my Jacuzi!
I love everything about the ocean and wild life, but... I'm afraid of the ocean! I've always wanted to (or wished to) see what it was like... at what mother nature put there for all to see! We moved down here to Florida... it will be going on 5 years now. I was born in Maine and lived in NY (up state) since 1965! I loved Maine, New York and now that I am here...I love Florida!
THE OCEANS BY THE SEASIDE
I wrote this poem for this wonderful lady at "THE SEASIDE R.V GROUNDS" in Ormond Beach Florida ( Irene Comtois ). Who now has passed on !
THE SOUNDS OF THE OCEAN AND THE WAVES SPLASHING ON THE BEACH THE GENTLE BREEZE AT OUR FEET THE TASTE OF THE SALT FROM THE MISTY OCEAN AIR THE SAND ON THE BEACH AS WE WALK IN THE HEAT THE SHRIMP BOATS ALL IN A ROW WITH ALL THE NETS IN A TOW
THE SURFERS AND TH SAIL BOATS ALL RIDING THE SURF THE BEACH FILLED WITH PEOPLE ALL YOUNG AND OLD LOVING THIS WONDERFUL EARTH THE KIDS HAVE THEIR PAILS AND LOOKING FOR SHELLS WHILE THE MOTHERS AND FATHERS ARE TRYING TO UNWIND
THE OSPREYS AND THE PELICANS ALL FLYING BELOW THE TURTLES ARE HATCHED FROM THEIR NESTS ARE NOW JOINING THE REST
WE LOOKED UP TO THE SKY AND WAS AMAZED TO SEE THE SHUTTLE GO UP INTO SPACE
AND TO THE HORIZON THE MOON WAS RISING THE STARS SHINING BRIGHT OH WHAT A WONDERFUL SIGHT
Hi Lavina! Please excuse our delay in recognizing your visit to our group. We're glad to have you join us and invite you to explore the archived messages for an idea of the kinds of topics we explore.
I loved the poem. Is diving something you've done in Florida?
Endangered Springs Below September 14, 2005 8:28 PM
By: Lavina Burgess
Ancient rivers, running beneath our divers feet Through unseen, rocky caverns Only divers know where Along their way... These life-giving flows, mighty spring boils
The worrisome impact... On our marine life below That depends on the strong, warm springs... That flow, to endure cold spills
Millions and millions, of gallons of water Moving in timeless currents Right there beneath their feet As the divers, dive so deep
They look closely all around They see fossilized shells... Still ribbed like a cockle, or round like a clam Welded , by the dust A collection of calcium That turned white as bone
Plants, algae and bacteria Are chocking the fish The reefs are ailing, and the springs are declining The coastal, are becoming cloudy With sediment, that settles to the bottom
Save our oceans so blue, from all the waste Of humans, such as me and you Lets keep our lakes, brooks and streams Fresh, clean and clear For all our children's, children... In this great world , everywhere!
Live in Pensacola, otherwise known as "LA" or 'Lower Alabama'. When I first moved here in the late '70's had to tell family and friends to look for Mobile, Alabama then move your finger just a touch to the East. Always did like all of Florida, but enjoy the 'small town' atmosphere of Pensacola, we are usually about 10 years behind the rest of the world. Brought my kids here to 'grow up' for this same reason (opposed to them growing up in the 'greater Cincinnati area').

Hello all! I was born and raised in MA, about 25 miles north of Boston. I've also lived in New Hampshire and Virginia, but always ended up going back to MA.
I moved to Daytona Beach two years ago and absolutely love it here. I feel I've finally found my true home. This is where I should have been all along.
My name is Lorie and I live in Central Brevard County on the East Coast. I've lived here my whole life and wouldn't have it any other way. My family has been here since the late 1800s (in Brevard County/Merritt Island) and I'm very proud of that fact. Not too many true "natives" around here anymore.
I live on an acre of land in West Melbourne and have many trees on my property (probably my biggest cause here is for the trees). I have two dogs, a retired racing greyhound named Sushi and an italian greyhound named Kiwi. I love nothing better than to be out in my back yard tooling around in my garden.
So glad there is a group here for us Floridians. Happy to have found it!
Hello, my name is Cougardawn and I live in New Port Richey, FL(West Pasco County). I am owned by 3 felines and 2 chihuahuas. I have a grown son age 25, a beautiful dtr-in-law who is 23, a 3 1/2 yr old grandson and a granddaughter who is due to make her grand entrance any day! I look forward to learning and sharing much in this wonderful group.
My name is Tory I like in Lake County Florida. My dad is in the Army and he lives in Oklahoma...just got back from Iraq. I love animals and am very involved with helping protect them. I love the Florida Panther and am also interested in them...Oh pets...I have five tarantulas, one cat, on dog, two pet rats, I just lost my snake..., two Bettas, a rabit, one cockatie, a bearded dragon, and a leopard Gecko.
Hello everyone!
I moved to Gainesville, Florida in 1980 and have lived here ever since. Before that I lived in North Carolina, Connecticut, Switzerland, New York, and Wild, Wonderful, West Virginia.
I've always been a tree-hugging liberal, except for those few years when I fell into fundamentalist christianity (long story), and am now learning basic grass roots organizing. So, I guess you could say I'm still trying to save the world.
My goal here is to expose as many people as possible to the remaining beauty that can still be found in the natural areas of Florida. If more people see and experience this paradise, I believe it will be harder for developers to win approval to mow down another fifty acres and build a new Super Wal-Mart.
I'd better stop here before this turns into a full blown rant.

A Lot of Moving Here Too... March 15, 2005 7:53 AM
More info on me:
Yeah I have had a lot of moving also...(not as far as you though). I was born in Colorado Springs because my mom wwas in the army. I was born at Fort Carson I believe?...(not sure LOL) Then we moved to Michigan, California, Florida, California, and then BACK to Florida...CRAZY. That's where we are NOW. My dad is a CW2 in the army, and works in the communications department. He JUST got back from Iraq. Right now he is getting settled in a base in Oklahoma...
All of my pets are rescues, our dog was rescued from an abused home, same with one of our snakes. Just last week our gecko died. We now have two baby PET rats: Hermes and Possum. They are EXCELLANT pets...
Hi everyone! I guess it's about time to tell you a little about me, since I've been a member I suppose a month now. I've been living in Florida for almost 5 years now. As for where I am "from", that's a difficult question since I have moved quite often. I was born in Colorado and adopted at 2 months old. My father was a diplomat, so we lived in North Africa and the Middle East until we settled down in Maryland when I entered 7th grade. I attended college in NC and Scotland then worked in NC and MD. Then I joined the Peace Corps and was sent to Poland to work at the University of Gdansk Marine Research Station. Afterwards, I came for graduate school at Florida Institute of Technology in
Melbourne, FL. I hadn't really thought of settling down here but
then I fell in love with my husband and we got married a little over a
year ago. We currently have 3 orange cats named Samba (from Poland), Ziggy (from ASPCA), and Tiggy (from Humane Society). Right now I work at Sea World Orlando in the Education Department and am a PartyLite Consultant. I can't imagine living anywhere else. ~Elizabeth M (aka ELA)

New Here February 23, 2005 4:20 PM
Hello my name is Rebecca. I have lived in FL. for nearly 37 years. Mostly in a small conutry town called Brooksville which is about an hour North of Tampa for those of you who didn't already know that. I have spent a year or two in other places but I always end up coming home to FL. I love it here. I'm looking forward to making new friends............
Hello my name is austin i live in orlando..i`m sure someone knows me from the care2 network..i just wanna say hello everyone and i`m glad too be in this group....i guess i`m considered a floridian since i`ve been here 13 years...

O'siyo Graywolf and thank you for the invitation. This looks to be a great group. My name is Kim, I live in Jacksonville, FL but was raised in Orlando. I was born in upstate New York. I am Irish, Scot, Lenape Indian and Dutch. I have three dog companions Shadow, Mooshka and Diamond, (there are pics in my album) and one human companion, Robert.
As far as I have been able to research, I am of the Muncee Tribe, Wolf Clan. Sadly, my Nation is small and much of the traditions and language are not practiced. They do have some online information and are trying their best to revive their traditions and language.
I look forward to meeting all of you and feel very honored to be here.
Hi my name is Tory, I am 13 years old and I live in Sorrento, FL. I live in Lake County...HORSE COUNTRY.
I own TONS of pets, all of them are rescues. I dont have any pics of them online yet, but I will definately be doing that soon. I have three tarantulas, a Siberian Husky, two cats, a cockatiel, a gecko, a few baby rats are coming soon from a friend, a rabbit, two Beta fish (in seperate tanks I promise). I think I remembered every one...
I enjoy horseback riding and just being around animals.
Hi! My name is Julie and I live in central FL. I moved here a year and a half ago and love it, despite the hurricanes. I'm enjoying the nice weather and laughing at all my friends buried in snow!!
Hello! I am a 31 year old Independent Consultant for a company called Arbonne International-( all natural bath and body products), and a happy homemaker. I have 1 dog, Miko who is a Coyote and Akita Mix, and 3 cats, Meowlarie, Cassi, and Frankee Blue.
I spend a lot of time in the yard- this past week I have dug 2 Koi ponds and 1 frog/turtle pond, and have countless other landscaping activities going on in the yard!
I'm an OH native, but that isn't my fault, so please don't blame it on me. I'm 58 yoa and living in Putnam County in the forest by the St Johns River and loving it. I have a hawk who visits me almost everyday and leaves me gifts of feathers. He also saved me from a snake one day. He must have decided it would make him a much tastier meal than I would have made it.
Anyway, I first came to this area as a teenager in the 60's and finally moved here permanently in 1991. So I feel I have the sun in my face as I should now.
Some of the things I love best about this area is - no one knows where it is, the large community of Native Americans who present powwows several times during the year, and the fact that it is easier to be closer to Mother Earth. I don't live in Mickey land for sure! There isn't even an interstate in my county!!
I look forward to getting to know everyone much better.
Hi all I am Daphne and live in Hernando Co. My family has been in florida since the mid 1800's, my folks actually live on the family farm that has been in the family since then. Married with 2 younguns a dobie named Alexis and a kitty named Kira. Hoping to move from suburbia within the next couple of years to a few acres somewhere. I need the trees! not to mention the quiet and privacy. Not a big fan of city living.
I love our state, our weather (even the hurricanes, at least we can see them coming) What I don't like is the Jeb , but this is not the place for that conversation. Thanks for the invitation to the group, looks to be a lot of fun.
Greetings everyone. I don't think I have been properly introduced here.
I am what some have called a transplant native. Not born here, but we moved here when I was very young, and started my Florida education at grade 3 or 4, and went all the way through High School and an AS degree here in Florida.
Since then, I was away for a couple of years in the Air Force, then did a little more moving around into Georgia and Alabama. But, I always seem to find my way back here to the sunshine and the saltwater.
I grew up in the Orlando area, attended Lake Sybelia Elementary, Maitland Jr High, Edgewater High, and Southern College. Worked at WDW for many years (I remember when there was only 1 Disney park), and now have a good job with Ron Jon Surf Surf Shop - Cocoa Beach.
The little creature in my avatar is "The cat now know as Shadow, which was formerly the kitten named Coal". I abbreviate it as "Shadow C@".
If you want to know more, there is more information that can be found on my website, accessible through a link on my profile.

Hey ... I'm Diane. I am a native florida cracker. I live in Trenton now but I am planning to move to the panhandle soon.
I went up there and fell in love with it. Problem is... I don't know where to start.
I have 3 kids(Rachael, Sunny, and Eve), 2 dogs (Laila and Waffles), 2 cats (Alfie and Fairie). Wheww!
Anywho, this seems like a great group and I look forward to it.
Thankyou for allowing an outsider like me to join you good people of Florida in this group! I have the misfortune to reside in the UK - I love America and Americans and appreciate all the natural wonders of this great country and I'm eager to find out as much as I can!
Hello all - thanks for the invite. I'm 43 and live in Saint Lucie county. I have worked for UPS for 21 years and for the last 2 years have been driving a tractor trailer to Hialeah every day. I enjoy the outdoors but scuba diving for lobster is my favorite thing to do, though the hurricanes have grounded me for a while. Glad to be talking to other Florideans.

I'm 43, married and we have a 15 year old daughter. We also have a calico cat and a pomeranian dog. I was born in upstate NY but moved to Sarasota, FL when I was ten and have lived in FL ever since (except a 4 year stint in the Air Force in Omaha, Nebraska). I now live in Port Charlotte (East Englewood). I love living in the wilds of Port Charlotte. We have an occasional fox and bobcat that visits along with racoons and rabbits. We have a resident gopher tortoise that lives in the woods next to us that we have named Touche'.

I am a 46yo artist and writer living in Seminole. Two adult step-kids who are great but out-of-state, no kids of my own, but I am owned by two felines named Bonnie and Clyde, both female. Clyde is actually Clydesdale, and is a Hemingway cat, with an extra toe on each foot. I used to be owned by a Newfoundland named Ebony, and will hopefully be owned by another one day soon. I'm a Los Angeles native (I thought the only Lion Country Safari was near San Diego!) but with the exception of a year in Europe, I've been in and around Tampa Bay for a bit over twenty years. Looking forward to getting to know others in the group.
