I have all my had Tinnitus, it is worse when I have a cold or it is totally silent. But nowadays it seems to be getting worse. I have a teenage son who is prone to anger outburts. In addition to learning "self control" tools, I would like to see adding a herbal supplement to his diet that would aid in removing this emotional imbalance. He refuses to see a Dr. as he feels that taking a "pill" would indicate that he is "retarded". II. WHY ARE THERE MEDICINAL CHEMICALS IN PLANTS?
The chemicals from plants that have medicinal value are called phytochemicals. These are part of a class of chemicals produced by plants that are known as secondary metabolites. They are chemicals not essential to the ordinary life activities of the plant, such as photosynthesis.
Secondary metabolites are probably defensive in nature. Since plants are stationary, they engage in 'chemical warfare' in order to survive. Penicillin, produced by a mold, wards off predators. We have adapted it for medicinal use. Richard Schulteis, the father of modern ethnobotany has said that "plants live by their chemical wits."
The largest groups of phytochemicals are the alkaloids. These include caffeine, nicotine, and cocaine from the coca leaf. Their discovery by aboriginal peoples was probably by trial and error. It was usual for an aboriginal practitioner in the Americas or Australia to be familiar with more than 150 different medicinal plants in his/her realm.

The Algonquin Indians used black cohosh to treat gynecological ills, and it was a key part of Lydia E. Pinkham's Vegetable Compound, sold in the 1870s to treat "female complaints and weaknesses." In a recent German study on menopausal hot flashes, subjects were given estrogen, a Valium-like tranquilizer or black cohosh (Remifemin, two tablets twice a day). - 10 oz of Citrate of Magnesia (kruses fluid magnesia in Australia) (again, no milk of magnesia, no substitutions, must be citrate of magnesia) you can get at places like Walgreens near the other laxatives and it usually comes in a glass bottle on the top or bottom shelf, and may come in cherry flavor, lime or original. As long as it is citrate of magnesia.
You will need one day when you can hang around at home in the bathroom to do this.
Put 5 oz of the coke in a glass with 6 oz of Olive oil and take half the lemon and squeeze it into the glass. Drink this nasty mess, and you can suck on the other half of the lemon after you are done, (like a shot of tequila) the lemon helps get rid of the gross taste of this concoction. Then go to sleep (wait for 8 hours) and in the morning drink 10 oz of Citrate of Magnesia. Then be very near a bathroom for another 8 hours at least." I.E. I wouldn't be at work, or go out shopping. You will have diarrhea really bad for at least a few hours, up to 8 hours or more.
The citrate of magnesia is a laxative and you will have lots of diarrhea. You will pass little green pea type things which are the gall stones.
Remember, you must get rid of the cause of your gallstones otherwise you will just be treating the symptoms.

make a tea using equel amounts of each and less than that of horehound--make a little at a time using a medium pinch for measurment of each herb for tea- cover herbs with about 1 inch water -cover -bring to boil for about a min. reduce to simmer for about 3 more min.-turn off heat and and allow to steep and cool before lifting lid to prevent losing essiential oils strain and add fresh lemon juice-I use 1/2 of a small lemon-add to organic honey making a syrpy mixture-take a tablespoon every 4 hrs. for severe congestion. Mullien has antibacterial and antiviral properties-also thins mucas if it is heavy and thick-horehound is a natural expectorant. My mother has COPD and will not use nor go to a doctor-she uses this that I make for her and it works for her-I also use this during cold and flu season for kids -works well.-Blessings

Beer Fights Cancer
Researchers are always looking for the magic bullet to kill cancer, and now they may have found it in a surprising place a glass of beer! (Who knew?) It turns out that hops, which is the flavor component of beer, contains a cancer-fighting compound called xanthohumol.
Xanthohumol turns out to be toxic to several kinds of human cancer, including prostate, ovarian, breast, and colon. Used extensively by Native Americans for food and medicine. Young shoots and roots are peeled and eaten raw. The fruit is also eaten raw, cooked or made into a lemonade-like drink.
A deciduous shrub native to North America found in all 48 mainland states of USA and in southern Canada. Found growing in thickets and waste ground, open fields and roadsides. Cultivation is easy, root cuttings are best long taken in December, it prefers well-drained acid soil and full sun. Sumac is a shrub or small tree from 6 to 15 feet high, with large pinnate leaves, each leaflet is lanceolate, serrate and green on top whitish beneath. In the fall the leaves turn a bright red. Flowers bloom in June and July they are in dense panicles of greenish-red small five petaled flowers. The edible fruit is a large erect cluster of small bright red berries. Gather edible young shoots in spring, roots and berries in fall. Dry for later herb use.

An infusion of the bark or roots is alterative, antiseptic, astringent, diuretic, galactogogue, haemostatic, rubefacient and tonic. It is used in alternative medicine for the treatment of colds, diarrhea, fevers, general debility, to increase the flow of breast milk, sore mouths and throats, rectal bleeding, inflammation of the bladder and painful urination, retention of urine and dysentery and is applied externally to treat excessive vaginal discharge, burns and skin eruptions.
The powdered bark is made into a good antiseptic salve. An infusion of the leaves is used for asthma, diarrhea and stomatosis. A poultice of the leaves used to treat skin rashes. The leaves also chewed for sore gums and rubbed on sore lips. An infusion of the berries is diuretic, emetic, emmenagogue, purgative and refrigerant. It is used in the treatment of late-onset diabetes, constipated bowel complaints, febrile diseases, dysmenorrhoea (painful or difficult menstruation). The berries have been chewed as a remedy for bed-wetting. An infusion of the blossoms used as an eye wash for sore eyes. The milky latex from the plant is used as a salve on sores. When broken or cut the plant produces a milky substance which forms a solid gum-like body or gall, containing large quantities of tannic and gallic acid. These galls are used in tanning leather. A medicinal wine can also be prepared from them. An oil extracted from the seeds is used in making candles. Brown, red, and black dye are obtained from the berries, said to be excellent for wool.
Believed by some Native American tribes to foretell the weather and the changing of the seasons, for this reason it was held as a sacred plant.
Leaves or berries: The usual method is to use one teaspoon per cup. Add boiling water to the pot and leave to infuse for ten minutes. This is longer than for regular (black) tea. Herbal teas do not 'stew' if left to infuse for a second cup.
Roots or twigs: If you make a tea out of roots or twigs, these need a little more effort to extract the benefit, as they are tougher. The only 'roots or twigs' given in this article, are Licorice and Ginger. These need to be simmered gently for a few minutes to extract the taste and the benefits. You may also want to simmer seeds - such as Aniseed or Caraway for a couple of minutes to get the flavour.
If you want to get hold of a particular tea and can't find it, then it is fine to use a combination tea, which contains the ingredient you want along with a few others.

Sage contains phytosterols, reported to have a cooling action. In one study, using an infusion of the leaf reduced sweating by as much as half. Early and modern herbals list sage as a treatment for bright red, abundant uterine bleeding and for cramps that feel worse with heat applications and better with cold applications. You may also use sage to stop breast-milk production when weaning a child from breast-feeding.
The properties that help dry up milk, as well as sage's reported cooling action, also make it useful for treating diarrhea, colds, and excessive perspiration. It may be of value for menopausal hot flashes accompanied by profuse perspiration. Sage can dry up phlegm, and you can gargle with the tea to treat coughs and tonsil or throat infections.
Sage also has been recommended as a hair rinse for dandruff, oily hair, or infections of the scalp. The herb reportedly restores color to gray or white hair.
The essential oil of sage contains alpha- and beta-thujone, camphor, and cineole, which are antioxidant and antimicrobial agents. The volatile oils in sage kill bacteria, making the herb useful for all types of bacterial infections.

Numerous plants have sedative action. Plants commonly prescribed as aids in promoting sleep include: passionflower (Passiflora incarnata), hops (Humulus lupulus), valerian (Valeriana officinalis), skullcap (Scutellaria lateriflora), and chamomile (Matricaria chamomilla).
How Much and When
Unless otherwise specified, for insomnia, take one or two cupfuls of an infusion or decoction in the evening about 30-60 minutes before bedtime. An additional cup can be taken in the night if you wake up. Where a remedy that will not make you drowsy is indicated for conditions associated with insomnia, you can take it three times a day.
Reduce the dosage of herbs taken by mouth by a quarter for children under five years old and by a half for children under twelve. Consult a professional herbalist and your doctor before administering any herbs to children.
Passionflower (Passiflora incarnate)
Passion flower is calming and sleep inducing, relieves pain, and muscular spasms. It is useful for the treatment of general insomnia, insomnia in asthmatics, hysteria, cramps, and nerve pain.
Passionflower was widely used by the Aztecs as a sedative and analgesic. Its constituents include harmine. Harmine was originally known as telepathine because of its peculiar ability to induce a contemplative state and mild euphoria. It was later used by the Germans in World War II as "truth serum." Harmine and related compounds can inhibit the breakdown of serotonin, therefore their use with 5-HTP would have an additive effect.
How to Use: Take 30--60 drops of tincture forty-five minutes before bed.
Valerian (Valeriana officinalis)
Valerian is relaxing and sleep inducing, relieves spasms, calms the digestion, and lowers blood pressure. It is useful for severe insomnia and insomnia accompanied by pain, cramps, intestinal pain, wind, menstrual pain, tension, anxiety, and over-excitability.
Valerian can bring on a restful sleep without morning sleepiness or other side effects or dangers of addiction. Studies have shown that valerian has an extremely beneficial effect among poor or irregular sleepers (particularly women), and in people having difficulty falling asleep.
Valerian has been widely used in folk medicine as a sedative and antihypertensive. Clinical studies have substantiated valerian's ability to improve sleep quality and relieve insomnia. In one study, valerian showed a significant effect compared to the placebo, with forty-four percent reporting perfect sleep and eighty-nine percent reporting improved sleep. In another double-blind study of insomniacs, twenty subjects received either a combination of valerian root extract (160 mg) and Melissa officinalis extract (80 mg), benzodiazepine (triazolam 0.125 mg), or a placebo. In the insomniac group, the valerian/melissa preparation showed an effect comparable to that of the benzodiazepines, as well as an ability to increase deep-sleep stages 3 and 4. The valerian/melissa preparation did not, however, cause any daytime sleepiness, and there was no evidence of diminished concentration or impairment of physical performance.
How To Use: Brew valerian tea (recipe below.) or take about 20 drops of tincture in water at bedtime; experiment to find the dosage that suits you best.
Valerian, like any sleeping aid, acts as a central nervous system depressant and should not be used every night. Take the tea about forty-five minutes before bedtime.
Caution: Valerian does not suit every one. Can occasionally cause excitement. Do not exceed recommended dosage.
Jamaica Dogwood (Piscidia piscipula)

Hops (Humulus lupulus)
Hops is relaxing, sleep-inducing, and antiseptic.
It is good for general insomnia, especially tension or anxiety-related, or associated with restlessness, indigestion or headaches.
Hops can be mixed with chamomile in equal parts.
Use by mouth or in bath.
Caution: Do not take if depressed. Do not take during the first three months of pregnancy.

I have used dandelion tea before but I found the taste not to my liking no matter how much honey I used..I went to the super market and bought some Celestial Seasonings Peppermint and mixed it with the dandelion tea and it made the taste acceptable...

Home Remedies For Conjunctivitis (Pinkeye)Conjunctivitis is an inflammation or redness of the lining of the white part of the eye and the underside of the eyelid (conjunctiva) that can be caused by infection, allergic reaction, or physical agents like infrared or ultraviolet light.
If your eyes are red, watery and itchy, you may have allergies or just some dust in your eye. But if your eyes are VERY itchy, you may have the serious (and extremely contagious) infection known as pinkeye.
Natural home remedies
- Once every day, make a poultice of grated apple or grated raw red potato and place it on your closed eye. Let it stay that way for a half hour. Within two days-or three at the most-the condition should completely clear up.
- The juice of the Indian gooseberry, mixed with honey, is useful in conjunctivitis. A cup of this juice should be taken mixed with two teaspoons of honey twice daily in treating this condition.
- Vitamin C 2-6,000 mg daily in divided doses. Vitamin C promotes healing.
- Prepare chamomile tea. When it cools, use it as an eyewash twice a day until the conjunctivitis is gone.
- A decoction prepared with a handful of dried coriander in 60 ml of water is an excellent eye-wash in conjunctivitis. It is said to relieve burning and reduces pain and swelling.
The Eyes Have It
- The plant eye bright is particularly effective in the treatment of conjunctivitis. Add 3 drops of tincture of eye bright (available at health food stores) to 1 tablespoon of just-boiled water. When cool enough to use, bathe the eye in the mixture.
A decoction prepared with a handful of dried coriander in 60 ml of water is an excellent eye-wash in conjunctivitis. It is said to relieve burning and reduces pain and swelling.
- Goat milk yogurt can also help clear up this uncomfortable condition. Apply a yogurt poultice to the infected eye(s) daily.
Prevention Conjunctivitis can, in many cases, be prevented, or at least the course of the disease can be shortened by following some simple practices.
- Frequently wash hands using antiseptic soap, and use single-use towels during the disease to prevent spreading the infection.
- Avoid chemical irritants and known allergens.
- If in an area where welding occurs, use the proper protective eye wear and screens to prevent damaging the eyes.
- Use a clean tissue to remove discharge from eyes, and wash hands to prevent the spread of infection.
Brown Spots Home Remedies Brown spots-age spots or liver spots they are sometimes called-are the result of sun exposure. Large, flat brown spots on your face and hands may be called age spots or liver spots. Many fair-skinned people develop them in middle age from an accumulation of pigment (color) in the skin.
The following remedies may not produce instant results. Keep in mind that these brown spots, thought to be caused by sun damage or a nutrition deficiency, took years to form. Give the remedy you use a few months to work. Then, if there's no change, try another remedy. It may take some trial and error to find what works best for you.
Natural home remedies
- Grate an onion and squeeze it through cheesecloth so that you have 1 teaspoon of onion juice. Mix it with 2 teaspoons of vinegar and massage the brown spots with this liquid. Do it daily-twice a day, if possible-until you no longer see spots in front of your eyes.
- This Israeli remedy calls for chickpeas. You may know them as garbanzo beans, ceci or arbus. If you don't want to prepare them from scratch, buy canned chickpeas. Mash about 1/3 cup and add a little water. Smear the paste on the brown spots and leave it there until it dries and starts crumbling off. Then wash it off completely. Do this every evening.
- Once a day, swallow a vitamin E capsule (check with your doctor for amount). In addition, at bedtime, puncture an E capsule, squish out the oil and rub it on the brown spots, leaving it on overnight. Wear white cotton gloves to avoid messing up your sheets.
- A variation of this remedy is to rub on castor oil and take the vitamin E orally
- Bind sliced onions or peeled garlic cloves to the bottoms of your feet. As we mentioned earlier, don't be surprised if it gives you onion or garlic breath. And don't be surprised if it brings down your temperature.
- Eat grapes (in season) throughout the day. Also, dilute pure grape juice and sip some of it throughout the day. Drink it at room temperature, never chilled.
- Boil 4 cups (1 quart) of water with 1/2 teaspoon of cayenne pepper. Just before you drink each of these cups (four consumed throughout the day), add to each cup 1 teaspoon of honey and 1/4 cup of orange juice. Heat it up just a little and then drink it slowly.

How To Prepare
You can prepare a tea by pouring boiling water over 0.5 to 1 gram (about one-eighth teaspoonful) of Cinnamon bark and steeping it for 10 minutes.
Crushed Cinnamon: 2 to 4 grams (about one-half teaspoonful) daily
Essential oil: 50 to 200 milligrams daily
Tea: 1 cup 2 to 3 times daily with meals
Liquid extract: 0.5 to 1 milliliter 3 times daily
Alcohol solution (tincture): up to 4 milliliters (almost 1 teaspoonful) 3 times daily
