Thanks Richard March 22, 2005 6:19 PM

For posting that video. Its a very revealing look at torture inside U.S. Prisons. Sad and telling that a Brit had to do the expose to televise on UK TV.

Wanda Valdes was a friend of mine but we`ve lost touch after the "trial" of her husband Franks bootjack killers in Starke Prison. She is one of the bravest, most courageous women I`ve ever had the honor to meet.

She and a lot of us Florida Prisoner advocates were devastated by the acquittal of those killers, especially after all the work we did exposing details of the case to try and get justice for Frank and humane treatment of other prisoners. I guess it shouldn`t have come as a surprise when they got acquitted, especially after we failed in getting the transfer of the trial outside of that hateful town.

It was especially defeating to see the Warden get promoted to head of all Florida Prisons.

Inside Prisons May 31, 2005 10:50 PM

Has there been a correct path to watch the video of prison conditions, etc. by MarijuanaMan. Does anyone know what, if anything, has happened to this video?

Thanks!

????????gone again????????? July 04, 2005 3:34 AM

The man probably removed it so we couldn't see how it really is inside! I don't believe there is rehabilitation, there is only teaching how to be a better criminal. Just my humble opinion from experience of the past 3 years.  [ send green star]

Video July 04, 2005 12:40 PM

Hello All!! Thanks, Vicki for at least responding about the video. I've never heard from this gentleman, I don't know what else we could do in able to see this video. I do know that in some prisons people are screaming 24/7, howl like wolves, etc., etc. from being in their cells 24/8 there are rats--no, not the little farm mice, huge RATS. Some are nothing but filth & have no other intent but to make others (inmates) lives as miserable as they possibly can (the 'officers')!

I for one, would like to watch this video so that I might understand more of what I know my son goes through on a daily basis. I still love him with all my heart, no matter what.  A Mother's love.

Richard.....if you read this would you take a moment to check on the video to see why we can't view it?? Thanks!!

Linda

Torture Inc. Americas Brutal Prisons

Savaged by dogs, Electrocuted With Cattle Prods, Burned By Toxic Chemicals, Does such barbaric abuse inside U.S. jails explain the horrors that were committed in Iraq?

By Deborah Davies

They are just some of the victims of wholesale torture taking place inside the U.S. prison system that we uncovered during a four-month investigation for BBC Channel 4 . It’s terrible to watch some of the videos and realise that you’re not only seeing torture in action but, in the most extreme cases, you are witnessing young men dying.

That was hard February 11, 2006 2:33 PM

to watch but thank you so much for posting it (and reposting).  Every adult in the US needs to see this video.  [ send green star]

I know full well what you mean as to "hard to watch".

Tonight my fiance was watching The Green Mile on broadcast TV.  He thought I`d want to watch it too. I`d seen it several times and I just couldn`t stomach it again. If any significant headway was being made fine but I`m not seeing it.

Thank you for sharing this powerful video. l am a Juvenile Justice Advocate who supports law reform to keep our CHILDREN out of adult prisons for just these reasons. Juveniles deserve a chance to be rehabilitated long before they are thrown to the dogs in these corrupt institutions. Wake up America!!!  [ send green star]

Thank-you for posting... January 07, 2007 10:25 AM

This link does work, it’s over 40 mins long and well worth watching. I had to stop several times, to give it time to really soak in.

This is absolutely horrible and many things need to be done.

I’ve only watched parts of the video of my Son Dieing of dehydration over a 5 day period, but this is so outrageous how can grow men and women treat helpless people with such cruelty and indiffence.

I’m willing to  show Timothy's video, protest and lobby, whatever it takes to help change things.

I’m going to be contacting some of the people in this video.

I’m also linking this in our group and on my home page; it really opened my eyes to how awful it is everywhere. Our STATE keeps insisting Timothy’s Death was an isolated incident. There have been 8 deaths of dehydration in Michigan in 5 years, not all of the people were in Restraints and only Timmy’s is on Video.

Sorry I’m rambling this is so close to my heart.

The scars that individuals recieve within these human warehouses can never heal, they are forever felt, relived, and tortured long afterwards if lived through such system of oppression, exploitation, and slavery.

Being freed-yet, still imprisoned due to the psychological effects of such inhumane experiences many endure with the crimnal injustice system and especially once back out in society, to be shunned, stigmatized, labeled psychiatrically disabled.

They've taken the land, they've trapped and captured the and body, now they strive to destroy the will of the mind to function productively.

Thank You's for the emotional expressions, it brings hope.

MORE PRISON VIDEOS ARE AT AIMI: http://www.care2.com/c2c/groups/disc.html?gpp=17280&pst=842947

Our advocacy at Assistance to the Incarcerated Mentally Ill (AIMI) is intended in part to support:

~   Sen. Jim Webb (VA-D) introduced The National Criminal Justice Act of 2009 calling for a national commission to "undertake a top-to-bottom review of our entire criminal justice system."

Look inside US Prisons August 21, 2009 11:10 AM

I watched the video, it made me feel physically sick. I cannot find the words to describe my feelings about the situation. We, as a species should feel shame about the way we treat animals, but then how do we find words to reflect on this.

If a child is only shown aggression and hate, that is what they wil learn. May be US citizens will consider the UK system too soft but one thing I know for sure, we have a lower murder and serious crime rate than that of the people of the USA.

I am not sure how to explain myself, but I am not here to  attribute  responsiblity or to blame. I do have a strong feeling that there is a need for some sort of change. There must be a way for officers and inmates to interact in a way that is less damaging to both groups.

For an officer to be driven to suicide is every bit as tragic as an inmate dying dying due to the conditions in which he is imprisoned. Both groups seem to be suffering equally.

Perhaps more openness could be the first step. Each step would have to be small and non threatening to both groups, improvements MUST benefit each group equally and reduce the stress in which everyone involved suffers.

There must be a better way for prisoners to find a new way of living and for the guards to ensure their own and the prisoners safety. Currently it appears from the video that all concerned are equally damaged and threatened by the situation.

I don't want to be seen as taking sides, we are all human beings, but I strongly believe that everyone concerned is entitled to a better 'correctional system'.

This is a game and it is not played in a logical way for the betterment of society.

The worse prisoners are treated the more they come back to the prison system (recidivism). The communities who host prisons depend on government monies as inmates are claimed as citizens even though they don't set foot in town. The government needs inmates to get tax revenues and the prison employees want them to insure their employment. If the inmates don't come back and are rehabilitated to fit into society it does not profit any of these co-conspirators.

In order for the Prison Industrial Complex to florish they have to have bodies to fill the beds. This means abusing and neglecting inmates so when they are released they will commit new crimes and these co-conspirators don't care who in society gets hurt in the process, in fact they spend a lot of effort scaring the populace with propaganda to make them ex-con haters.
