Looking for my family! January 02, 2005 3:44 PM

I am looking for my birth family.  I was April Quarles on August 20 ,1978.  I was Madison, Tennessee and in Davidson County.  I have an older brother who was born in 1976 or 1977.  He was adopted by our birthmother's sister and husband, who was my brother's father and may also be my father.  I was adopted with our sister.  She was born Cynthia Lee Austin on August 19,1979 in Dickson, Tennessee.  Their last known whereabouts was in Florida back in 1982.  Please if you have any information, please email me at sexy_angel@wildmail.com  [ send green star]  [ accepted]

April, it so great to meet you! I found my bioligical father by writing to the people that had my last  birth name  in the county/city  that I was born in. Maybe that could be a good tip for you. I hope you find them. I think. My reunion was terrible! And I know that not all of them are like that. Just please, beware of what you might find.

Love, Marilyn

Searching January 02, 2005 5:33 PM

If your adoption was facilitated by an agency such as Catholic Charities or your state social services, you can contact them directly and request your record. They are required to house adoption records for 99 years.

Finding daughter January 17, 2005 8:11 AM

When I was young I got pregnant and was forced to give my child up for adoption by my parents  I was raised in a catholic home and It was a sin to have a child out of wedlock. I never forgot her always wanted to know she was ok. I have since then contacted the adoption agency to try and find her but they want so much money to do the search, i cant afford it. I am a single mom and both my children know of her. dose anyone have any suggestions on how i can find her  [ send green star]  [ accepted]

Lean On Me January 17, 2005 11:18 AM

Joan,

I don't know where you are located, that might help concerning the law of information. In most states the adoption agency is required by law to give you information. We as citizans can petition them to give you what you need to know. Do you remember what kind of documents you signed? This is always where we are sold short. At a young age I know you had to be frightened. I am a parent and no matter what church I was rasied in. We do not have the right to tell our child they have to do something, because of our beliefs. My daughter got pregnant to a Luthern young man and his mother wanted the baby aborted or adopted out. I put her in her place real quick. She was only looking out for her social standard in the church and had the gall to tell my daughter not to come to the church because it was embarrasing, what a hipocrit..In order for us to help you and I will do everything I can to so. We need to know where your baby was born, the adoption agency name, the age of her now. That is most important factor, because some agencies have an age limit for a child to know who they are. I will also bring your situation up before my group. They are wonderful people. ready and willing to help anyone in need. I will send you an invite. We will do all we can to find your little girl.

just not right January 17, 2005 1:25 PM

that is just not right Joan..Catholics have changed alot since that time. Would your parents have records somewhere in a safe or a box? search everything you can. send me a personal email with anything you can find. i will do everything i can to help. names, dates, hospital, last location of the child if you have it. sometimes if a search on here is done to find an email or address. alot of times it works..you may even try legal aid. worth a shot. hugs and prayers to you my friend...  [ send green star]  [ accepted]

My wife and I have worked with Catholic Charties for over 9 years now taking care of foster kids. Thy alwayes told us Conections is about keep the Children in contact with their foster parents and bilogical family. And thy had a right to know about their Parents Also so I dont know for sure. We adopted one boy and he went back to his parents when he became 18.

My prayers are with you for the best. Michael

Tennessee Has Access to Records August 31, 2008 5:42 AM

From what I am reading, you were born and adopted in Tennessee.

If so, you can actually get a copy of your WHOLE adoption record.  The fee was $130.00 when they started.  The adoption record includes sealed adoption records, post-adoption records, court records, adoption agency and Department of Health Vital Records.

After you get your records you can ask the State to do a search for you for ANYONE you want them to.  You will have to sign an affidavit (which if you go against could mean jail, a fine or both) stating you will NOT contact anyone who has submitted a Contact Veto however.  The cost for the state to do a search is $150.00.

To make inquiries, you can contact:

Tennessee Department of Children’s Services
Post Adoption Services
Cordell Hull Building, 8th floor
436 6th Avenue North
Nashville, TN 37242-1290
Telephone: 615-532-5637

If you need any other help, please do not hesitate to contact the American Adoption Congress State Representative in Tennessee - Holly Spann - hollyspann@hotmail.com or me - the NC State Rep- Roberta MacDonald - nccar@mindspring.com

Good Luck in your search
