This is a true story about how even the fiercest of animals can respond to kindness…
Nearly 20 years ago, this crocodile was found on the bank of the Parasmina River in Costa Rica, severely injured with a gunshot wound to his eye. Refusing to turn his back on suffering, a kind local man named Chito pulled croc into his boat with the help of a friend - and in an extraordinary act of compassion - brought the 5-metre-long reptile back to his house where he nursed him back to health. "I just wanted him to feel that someone loved him, that not all humans are bad." Chito named the croc Pocho.
When Pocho was fit enough to return to the wild, Chito released him. But Pocho refused to be separated and followed Chito back home. For nearly two decades, Chito cared for Pocho. They grew to trust each other so completely that they spent hours each day swimming and playing together. Remarkably, Pocho was gentle and patient with his human companion and would even respond to his name when called.
