Brian Freeman, 28 of East 188th Street in Bronx was arrested Monday and charged with torturing and injuring an animal. A videotape released to the public by the New York Police Department showed a man fitting Freeman's description repeatedly kicking and abusing a dog in an elevator at the Wagner House on East 120 Street.

In the 35 second videotape, the small, white dog was kicked seven times, slapped, and then spit on allegedly by Freeman.

New York's animal cruelty laws state that anyone who:

"cruelly beats or unjustifiably injures, maims, mutilates ... a domestic animal is guilty of a misdemeanor, punishable by imprisonment for not more than one year, or by a fine of not more than $1,000 or both."

Arrest made in vicious dog beating captured by elevator camera

http://www.examiner.com/article/arrest-made-vicious-dog-beating-captured-by-elevator-camera

A public appeal by the New York City Police Department (NYPD) and the viral spread of the video they released, has resulted in the arrest of a suspect in a shocking animal abuse case.

The suspect, 28-year-old Bronx resident, Brian Freeman, was captured on video by a security camera located in an elevator of the Wagner Houses, in Harlem, N.Y. In the video, Freeman is seen viciously kicking and smacking a cowering puppy, multiple times.

The incident took place inside the Wagner Houses at 11:30 a.m. on Aug. 26th, 2012. After the NYPD released the video last week, animal advocates on social media sites distributed the animal abuse video widely. Crime Stoppers received a tip, which led to Freeman's arrest.

Freeman was arrested Monday and charged with torturing and injuring an animal, which is a Class A misdemeanor in the state of New York, and is punishable by up to a year in jail.

This not the first time Wagner Houses has been in the news for animal abuse. In 2011, another Wagner Houses surveillance video caught dog owner Irving Sanchez mercilessly kicking his young pit bull dog inside an elevator. Sanchez was later arrested and charged with aggravated animal cruelty.

Dog beating

They better get what they deserve, how are the dogs?

The dog- in the video, is Hazel- a pit bull puppy- and she suffered NO injuries.

The day after the video was made public, a relative of Freeman's took Hazel and bought her to ACC (Animal Care and Control), a shelter.

Hope they receive the Full Measure of the Law Nyack :-0 Thanx ..

thanks for the update.

Hazel

I hope this is not a high kill shelter where she was brought to.

Yes, Carol- it is. Extremely. But this is a high profile case, and the dog had no injuries- which also means- it was not being used for dog fights.

The news said she was treated and being cared for, so she is probably adobtable...

but maybe I should make a petition about this one you think?

Hi Nyack :-0 A petition wouldn't hurt ! .....Thnx

Thanks for the update Nyack dear.

I think that is a great idea to make a petition about this one. If we don't try to get peoples attention the cruelty never stops. The more people know it the more people look out for animal cruelty.

Most people say they hate it when an innocent animal gets hurt by human being but they don't do or say anything against that and that makes me mad. A few times I saw a man kick his dog, then I go to him and kick him and say : now you feel how it is to be kicked ! When people saw that they but why didn't they do anything and wait untill somebody react first ?

This is the real me and if anybody say %#&!*% then it's their problem.

Forget to say that I will adopt Hazel but I don't have the money for transport her. I am looking out for a pitbull I really love those beautifull dogs.

Does anyone have an idea how to transporte Hazel from where she is now and how she can come to Belgium ? Feel so sorry that I don't have the money.

Dianne - I am at a loss about how to get a pet shipped overseas- Im not even sure how to get one from state to state.

And.. most of my atention is focused on wildlife, endangered species- trying to save them from extinction (because THAT is very cruel also)

You may want to get in touch with Ginger G. She does alot of work with shelters and transportation regarding domestic animals- mostly dogs-

And Also- Buffy is in Germany and works with dogs

Thanks Nyack meantime I got a "chipin" for raising money to transporte Hazel overseas. I contact the people who you where talking about and they give me names where people had helped me too. There is a special site for breeds and they have a lot off info and one off the hosts (also from Begium ) stands near me to do everything what's needed.

Now it's waiting at a lot off papers, people who raise money (I also make a causse of this) and last ofcourse the news that Hazel can be adopted. She is under police thing (?) as long as it's needed to surch the whole thing out before going to the judge.

So this creature will be punished !!!!!

see you all

forgot to tell the that I post the petition everywhere I can and the peition is going round over a lot off places.

the petition is also the heighleight on several FB pages, it must come good I believe in it. I am fighting for a good course.

I contacted the shelter where Hazel is but they will not give me any information about Hazel. They only say : she is fine she isn't hurt much. Then they put the phone done very loud !

I know- they arent telling me anything about her either - I hate that Shelter (Animal Care and Control) it's totally corrupt-Taking ALOT of state and city money- and they routinely kill our wildlife too-

I wish they had bought her to the ASPCA

Diane, I think its great you want to adopt Hazel. I'm pulling for you. keep in touch.

Waw that's not so good news in with shelter she is, poor dear.

It's was better at the ASPCA yes, hope from the bodem off my heart she musn't stay there long time.

Got my first contribution  Tonight some one gave 50 dollar for the transporte of Hazel.

Thanks Sandi dear and you to Barbara for praying and pulling
