Hi Tracy I am Jim Runningfox Moss..I am the eldest of 11 children and the first in my family to finish high school and the only one to attend college...I joined the army in 1961 and attended college throughout my army career which was almost 30 years..The more I attended school the more thirsty I became for knowledge..I have degrees in religion, human services, law enforcement and a Ph.D in Clinical Psychology..I would not have any of these with out the desire to learn and would not have the Ph.D without the help of the US Army..
I still consider myself to be a student as well as a teacher of life experiences..I love the idea of this group and I believe it will be a success..Thanks for inviting me to join..

Education/Learning is so important. The more we know, the better we relate to all things.......so there is balance.
I have always been a "why" person....I have taken numerous adult education classes in various fields to expand my mind. I also hope to obtain a degree someday ~ I haven't decided on what yet!!! I know if and when I do, it will be in education/social field. I like to help/teach/share.

Hi Tracy!
Thanks for the invite Runningfox!
I am 31 and just finished my first full year of college (all three semester in the year 2004). I still do not know what I want to do with my life but I love learning and would be a full time student all my life if that was financially possible.
I would love to have a job where I got to travel and enjoy nature but I don't know what that job would be.
I started going to school for a degree in website creation and maintenance but decided I didn't want to spend the rest of my life behind a computer. I took a Chemistry class this last semester and really enjoyed it. I also went to our Career Center and took their test that can give you options on what you should become by answering 140 questions. I scored 40 on science and math which is the highest possible score in that category. But I don't want to be part of any science that is cruel to animals or harmful to anyone.
Part of my problem is I don't know what one does in a lot of different careers so the more I can learn the better.

I have 2 children, ages almost 23 and 16. I have worked for state government since 1976, in the departments of: Revenue: Inheritance/Income, Petroleum Tax; Corrections: Probation, Adult Prison; & Children Services, where I now work with delinquent juveniles housed in a fenced, locked down facility.
My life is pretty much full with raising my children/their friends, and working with delinquent teens...which I absolutely love.
I do not know how other's may determine success, but for me ~ it is 'Seeing a child being able to Smile, be Happy and Appreciate Life' as well as for everyone else...
However, when my last child graduates, I would like to go continue my education.
Positive Thoughts, Smiles, Laughter, Light & Blessings!

My name is steph, I live in the UK at the moment, I have always worked in the care industry as an auxilliary norse (nurses aide) I think you call it there, and also as a care assistant in a nursing home for the elderly, I also did voluntary work for the aged for five years, I injured my back a few years ago so had to leave this field of work, but I went to college and obtained degrees in Reflexology and Indian Head Massage, which I enjoy doing as to me it is still in the caring sector, and I work from home but don't charge much as it is my way of helping people.
I have a daughter who has her own family now, so I live on my own and have started to find myself at last, I love learning and consider myself a student of life among other things.
Thankyou Chief Running Fox for inviting me to this group, I look forward to learning with you all.
Love and Light

Thank you for inviting me Runnigfox January 02, 2005 10:35 PM
I grew up in a small town in West Texas. I had a very bad car accident and didn't finish college. Currently I do sales and marketing for a retirement community. I feel I have done very well for not having a degree but I still want to go back to school and finish. Right now I am putting my husband through college. My question is what do I want to do? I love animals but do I want to be in the
veterinary field? Own a doggie day care? I am fascinated with spiritual healing and the healing of herbs and stones. I would also some day like to own by own business to offer all of this. So as you can tell, I am still searching for my path but I do feel I can accomplish anything I set my mind to. I worked in the oil field in the summers of college, an electrician, a receptionist then sales and marketing.
Hello to everyone and thank you James for inviting me to this group. I've always been a type A personality; I love to work; I love to work in an atmosphere of co operation and consultation, however that doesn't always happen, which I find incredibly frustrating and limiting - not just for myself but for those who have not learned to trust others, are controlling and indeed soft-core bullies. I would like to learn how to continue to be positive and still grow, when it is sometimes easier to get sucked into the negativity that can surround one. It used to be much easier for some reason and I'm trying to identify why. Thanks everyone for listening.

thanks runningfox for inviting me! i love hearing and sharing stories. this is an interesting group - i'm looking forward to what will be shared here!
i am both a self-employed textile-based artist, as well as an instructor of textiles at a college of craft and design where i live. it's like having a full-time job, and then another part-time job on the side! plus i have a 9 year old boy (i'm 32). i'm also attending university part-time to upgrade to another piece of paper (an applied arts degree) - i really think i'll be attending school on an off for a long time, for life maybe! i love learning! i also do other kinds of learning, like many workshops and non-credit courses - i just want to experience everything i can in life. i travel extensively too, and consider that a really important part of my learning - i like to have the balance of scholarship and life experience. i just got back from maui, where my dad lives, and felt like a sponge, absorbing every little bit of the culture that i could, that has not been totally americanized. i am so fascinated with culture and language! i used to run my own in-house publishing company when my son was young. i am crazily motivated and energized and love life and the earth - i like to form positive connections and to be really genuine with people, even in all of my professional liasons where so many people try to operate on such a superficial (a.k.a. "professional"), emotionally disconnected level. it's this concept of "professional" that kills my spirit. sometimes i get really down by the way people work, but as much as i can, i try to work with people who are positive and real. i believe that success comes from being true with people and leaving them with a good feeling - they will always remember you and go out of their way to do extra little things to help you out. i have met some wonderful people. the dried up "professionals" i let go of and move on, and am none the worse for it! i feel like a very successful person who can only know more and more success - the more success i know, the more i am able to be generous with my community and family! the point of success is to share!

Well first of all thank you for inviting me Runningfox M.
What do I consider and count as success? Having the ability to see the world from different standpoints? Being a good friend? Appreciating nature? Being the best parent I can possibly be...running my own business while raising two children on my own...and loving it! Making great choices that help me to achieve my personal and professional artistic and creative goals.
I went back to University in my early 30's and am in my final year of obtaining a degree in literature. My poetry has been published during this time while also singing, songwriting and radio comparing and producing. Last year I started an arthouse cinema club and am on the way to making three short films this year in conjunction with the Budamurra tribe and friends. I am happy to have started a discussion board for all artists to promote and use their art for greater humanitarian and cultural awareness.
In previous career choices I have been a decorative artist for film sets and the fine art field. Before that I worked in the dog breeding industry.
My greatest success I have to say though is spiritual. I have over the course of hard years with my children and their health, the death of my father and doing alot on my own, somehow gained this amazing psychic ability(it even astounds me). I have studied astrology and have been trained as a healer. These are great gifts which I use to the best of my ability. During my time working at the buddhist library repairing worn books, I had the good fortune of reading many philosophies. These have all helped me in defining and making different choices in my path. My spirituality is a mixture of all cultures, not one more over the other. I have died and returned when I was 21 and during my time on the other side (which was very wonderful I must say) was told, It was not my time, I still had much to do, to have my children and to live long and continue to do more.
So I strive too.
So this is my personal success...success in life I believe is not to sweat the small stuff and to let stuff go.
To treat each other with respect and to respect each cultures lessons. For all have much to teach us.
Most of all to succeed through love, even when it's not easy, is the greatest of all.
I am 36, mother to 3. I was a SAHM until yesterday, I started my first full-time job that I've had outside my home in years. Gotta pay those bills! I believe learning is something that you do everyday of your life. The universe is big it would take thousands of lifetimes learn it all. I try to learn and grow every minute, wether i'm expanding my mind or my spirit.

I just wanted to take a min. to thank everyone for supporting this little group..
Don't worry, there's enough for everyone so keep it coming!
Zannah, beautiful name by the way, where did you go to work? I am excited for you. I know well what it's like to return to the workforce after being a SAHM for awhile...not easy usually. I want to make sure you know that you have my support.
Woah, I agree, going back to full time work after being a SAHM is a big step. I know I will be doing the same thing this year so my heart goes out to you
January 6?(last post) Does this mean that I came to the group which is not alive? I don't believe that. Such a nice group cannot die.
As for me, I'm both a teacher and an Independent Bussiness owner. Single, 34, learning to reach my dreams and to be a successful woman.
Most woman see succsess in kids & family. I an't say I had this kind of success. Well, I had a wonderful mom but she passed away 7 yrs ago (in her 50s). My dad, well, we've never been very close. And i have no my own family yet. Not because I didn't want to but it just happened like that because 2 thirds of my life i was busy studying and looking for my way in the life.
In your other disscusion Crocus speaks about small failures that make us stronger. I believe Io had enough failures to decide- that's enough. It's time to learn to be successful. Bussiness I entered 9 months ago helps me a great deal.
Learning & Education? As a teacher I share the oppinion that it's very important for our brains' and sociocultural developement but.. there is no educational institution that teachers people how to deal with their own financies. No institution really teachers people how to be successful. (At least I've never seen a Subject called "How to be a successfull person") As one successful bussinessman says "There's no difference what do U study in College or University because most people change min 2-3 workplaces during life and never work in the field they studied. Studies are mainly important for making contacts because as famous writer and bussinessman Harvey Mackey says "There is the only one feature that is essential for successful people- their ability to establish contacts". Simple. But also very complicated because it means being honest and sincere, friendly and commited, positive and goodwilling (that's mine, not Mackey's definition )
So that's the attitude I'm learning to keep everywhere and everyday whatever good or unpleasant happens. It's hard, very hard I agree. But then you make it, it's really rewarding.
How much does the smile cost? Nothing. And how many good energy it brings from person to person then you share it? No one can count.
s let's smile to each other, be possitive and share good energy!
