The Gardener's Morning
The robin's song at daybreak
Is a clarion call to me.

Get up and get out in the garden,
For the morning hours flee.

I cannot resist the summons,
What earnest gardener could?
For the golden hours of morning
Get into the gardener's blood.

The magic spell is upon me,
I'm glad that I did not wait;
For life's at its best in the morning,
As you pass through the garden gate.

The Pearl

There are many fish in the ocean that swim and swirl
But it's the oyster that turns water into Pearl;
Ideas numerous, as many drops as the ocean can hold
But it's the person who can turn ideas into gold.

Grandads Garden
by Melanie Waters

In the corner of his garden, there's a patch he used to keep
All to himself, to allow nature to creep
There are no trimmed edges
or prim, proper hedges
He left his earth still and alone
Allowed the forces of nature to roam
He said that you don't always have to be tidy and neat
Just watch the beauty of opportunity grow at your feet
He said just watch the earth produce its own glory
And I watched...and held on to his story
My grandad was right
Add water and light
Behold the sight
There are poppies and flowering weeds
Buttercups and oat coloured reeds
Daisies gingerly lift their heads
Dandelions roar from muddy beds
Purple thistles and strange grasses
Colours that alight and ignite masses
Dark ferns and heathers
Dandelion clock feathers
Birds foot trefoil, a four leafed clover
My grandad's story is not over
He may have gone, I may have cried
But the beauty he predicted never died

Buttercups and Daisies

Mary Howitt, 19th Century

Buttercups and daisies,

Oh, the pretty flowers;

Coming ere the spring-time,

To tell of sunny hours,

While the trees are leafless,

While the fields are bare,

Buttiercups and daisies,

Spring up here and there.

Ere the snowdrop peepeth,

Ere the crocus bold,

Ere the early primrose

Opes its paly gold....

Somewhere on the sunny bank

Buttercups are bright;

Somewhere 'mong the frozen grass

Peeps the daisy white.

"Recipe for Kindness"

   Fold two hands together
And express a dash of sorrow
   Marinate it overnight
   And work on it tomorrow.

Chop one grudge in tiny pieces
   Add several cups of love
Dredge with a large sized smile
   Mix with the ingredients above.

   Dissolve the hate within you,
   By doing a good deed
Cut in and help your friend
If he should be in need.

Stir in laughter, love an kindness
From the heart it has to come,
   Toss with genuine forgiveness
   And give your neighbor some.

   The amount of people served
   Will depend on you,
It can serve the whole wide world,
If you really want it to.

Dance In The Rain

We will dance in the rain,
Clouds hiding the moon
While the song of the ocean,
Sings us a tune.

We will sway in the raindrops
Barefoot in the sand
Let our hearts make sweet music,
As we dance hand in hand

We will whisper soft words,
As we gently sway,
That catch on the wind,
As it sweeps them away,

As if we were lovers,
In the quietness of night,
Forgetting the world,
Till dawn brings its light,

We will sway in the raindrops,
In a gentle embrace,
While all time stands still,
In some distant place,

We will cherish the moment,
And the ocean's refrain,
In eachothers arms,
We will dance in the rain.

Stop and Reflect

A time comes in each of our lives
when we need to stop and reflect.
Have our days here been as fruitful
as anyone should ever expect?

Do we give all to the things
that are making up our days?
Or have we simply drifted along
...beingslack in some of our ways?

I know it's sometimes easy
to just let the days go drifting by.
Then it's too late for some things,
because we didn't take time to try.

We go about our chosen tasks,
working busily all day long.
Then wonder at the end of day
why we got so little done.

When we do stop to reflect
on the kind of life we've lived,
I hope we can truthfully say
...I gave
