One for an accidental death and one for a "bite" that didnt break the skin really starts to take a toll. I am consumed with what I can do. But like every other case, it's a matter of waiting it out and it just gets to be a lot after a while. I'm not minimizing other cases. They are all important. But, when an owner or ex owner is allowed to visit and play with dogs, while its still upsetting that the dogs are being held, it's so much worse when the dog is God knows where. We know Onion is in Henderson animal shelter. We pray that they are doing the right thing by Onion. We KNOW that with Phineas they are NOT doing the right thing. They have decided to move him out of animal control where he was a perfect angel for 9 months and take him somewhere and do God knows what with him. Just so sick of it all. * (FB Save Phineas)
Petition for Phineas: http://www.youcaring.com/nonprofits/save-phineas/54124
There is also a fundraiser: http://www.youcaring.com/nonprofits/save-phineas/54124
On June 22, 2012, Phineas was seized from his home and family in Salem MO following a report that he had bitten an eight year old neighbour who had entered his yard. A photo of the bite indicates that it was hardly a nip and did not even break the skin.
From the time of his seizure and for nine months, Phineas was confined in doggie jail. Written testimony from the boarding facility caring for him and submitted to the City states that he was anything but vicious.
I previously shared his story:
Now his case changed for the worse:
On March 22, 2013, Phineas was removed by Animal Control to an undisclosed location following issuance of an order by Judge Scott Bernstein of the Dent County Circuit Court. In that order, he stated:
"The Court finds that Phineas, the Labrador Retriever owned by the Plaintiffs is in fact a vicious dog as defined by Defendant's City Code under Section 5-15 in that Phineas without provocation on June 22nd, 2012 bit (minor child - name withheld.) The dog shall be humanely euthanized." (FB Save Phineas)
After being missing for a month it was discovered that Phineas has been held kept hidden in a small crate, filled with his own urine and feces, in the darkened basement of a fire station in Salem, Missouri.
Why was a young Labrator retriever who is subject of a minor bite investigation for an incitent that not even break skin, moved covertly, to an undisclosed location, and kept in inhumane conditions for over a month in a public building?
Why do the "Authorities", "Officials". or "Public Servants'" of Salem, Missouri think they are above the law, an can do as they please, by subjecting a young, happy, companion animal to torture and abuse. Now, they are refusing to cooperate or return Phineas to his rightful owner or Phineas' attorney. (The Lexus Project)
From Phineas' solicitor:
*Brief note to all Friends of Phineas:
I am the local attorney representing the owners of Phineas on a pro bono basis. I work in conjunction with The Lexus Project which bought me in to help with the case. The Lexus Project is very experienced in these types of cases and their guidance and knowledge of all of the applicable legal issues involved has been tremendous. They are a true blessing to all animal lovers.
I am not my clients' original attorney as I only began working on this case a few weeks ago. The nature of my practice has allowed me to spend virtually all of the last three weeks on this matter. I take what has been done and what is being done to Phineas personally. It has literally shaken my belief in humanity and our justice system to the core. I'm as pissed as any of you.
We have two other Missouri licensed lawyers participating in different roles in this matter and have offers of help from several others. We have even had offers of assistance from other attorneys who are not licensed in this state, however, I am confident we are already providing Phineas with the highest quality legal support. I am not one to hesitate to ask for help so if I were ever to feel that that were not the case, I would not hesitate to reach out for help.
Under the Rules of Professional Conduct by which I am bound there are limitations on the kinds of criticisms I can publicly make so unfortunately I am not able to freely speak my mind about certain happenings/people/things.
As to the status of the legal proceedings, we filed a Motion for Relief from the Judge Bernstein's original judgment on Thursday. Hours later it was denied. This week we plan to simultaneously to file a Motion for Reconsideration, a Motion asking Judge Bernstein to Recuse himself, and (probably) a Motion for a Change of Venue.
On Thursday we also filed a Writ of Habeus Corpus which is a separate action based on constitutional issues that should be taken up shortly by a different judge. We are also comtemplating a federal court filing. In sum, we are covering all of the bases. Based on the facts, equity and law, I am confident we will ultimately prevail.
That being said, your support is of the UTMOST importance. It puts tremendous pressure on the City of Salem, draws great press coverage, and sparks the involvement of various investigative branches of government. Thank you, thank you, thank you and keep it up!!! Its working!!!
Best regards to all, Joe Simon and The Lexus Project
It has been confirmed that the Sara Saey, wife of the town attorney, William Camm Saey who is representing the mayor who is on a crusade to murder Phineas works for Judge Scott Bernstein, the judge who is supposed to be hearing the case. In the rest of the United States of America, judges go to excessive lengths to assure there is not even the appearance of impropriety. In their rush to execution, it appears they have no problem throwing the constitution and ethics into the bonfire.
So sick of it all. Between Phineas and Onion who have BOTH been locked away in solitary with no visitors, no nothing for a year.. One for an accidental death and one for a "bite" that didnt break the skin really starts to t

I am writing in horror and disgust to bring your attention to the suffering of animals imported from Australia to Egyptian slaughterhouses where animals undergo barbaric and unnecessary suffering whilst being crushed in slaughter boxes.
In April 2013 Egyptian vet Dr Abdelwahab alerted Animals Australia to footage showing shocking abuse of Australian cattle in two Egyptian abattoirs. He described the plight of animals across his country and explained the urgent need for stronger laws to protect animals in Egypt.
Recent footage taken at Sokhna Abattoir clearly demonstrates the systemic cruelty inflicted on Australian animals exported live to Egypt aggravated by inherently cruel Australian government-approved restraint boxes. In slaughterhouses across Egypt both local and imported sheep and cattle are subjected to brutal treatment.
The suffering of a gentle white steer we named Jacob, killed at Ismailia Abattoir, perhaps represents most starkly why change for animals is so desperately needed in Egypt. In the video taken of this creature's horrific death, Jacob's eyes are stabbed repeatedly; his leg tendons slashed as he bellows in torment. And after all this, his throat is cut while he is still conscious.
I am sure, like me, you were shocked by the cruelty uncovered in the Egyptian abattoirs that receive Australian animals.
This footage has made headlines in Australia and internationally. I understand it was highlighted in Egyptian media as well.
With people around the world now watching to see how your government will react, I would urge you to take this opportunity to pass and enforce laws protecting animals from cruelty.
Such positive action would be widely applauded throughout the international community. Show the world that Egypt is a country of the 21st century; a progressive country of humility and compassion toward all living beings.

Now is the time to speak up for hens!
India is the world's third largest egg-producing country, and at least 70 percent of its eggs come from hens confined in cages so small, each bird has less space than an A4 (letter) size sheet of paper on which to spend her entire life.
HSI has persuaded the majority of states--including the top egg-producing states--to declare that confining hens to battery cages violates the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act of 1960, which requires that animals confined to cages be provided with reasonable opportunity for movement.
But enforcement remains a concern and we will continue to do what we must to ensure that intensive confinement of laying hens is brought to an end.
Help us secure this progress for hens, and expand it across India.
