Despite the valiant efforts of Drake's veterinarian Dr. Ken Simmons, the devotion of Drake's human companion Trooper Robert Boody, and prayers from across the nation, Drake was in severe pain, and the most difficult decision to humanely euthanize the hero canine who protected his home from a home invasion was made earlier Friday afternoon.
Earlier this week, three youths broke into the Greenacres home of Florida Highway Patrol Trooper Robert Boody. Drake was shot multiple times as he bravely protected his home.
One arrest has been made so far, and the Palm Beach County Sheriff's Office continues to search for the other two teenage suspects. The 16-year-old youth presently in custody was already on probation for burglary. He has been charged with armed robbery and felony animal cruelty.
Rest in peace sweet Drake.
