PUT YOUR GOOD NEWS HERE
We're just a couple of weeks into the new year, and judging from recent news, 2013 is sure to be a monumental one in PETA's efforts to save animals from painful and deadly experiments. Victories like the one I'm sharing with you today are a direct result of the compassion and dedication of supporters like you.
In December, following a whistleblower complaint to PETA, more than 50,000 people took action and helped save 70 young beagles from suffering at the hands of experimenters. These dogs, barely 4 months old, were shipped from a notorious animal-breeding facility in China and were headed to an Indian pharmaceutical laboratory, where they would have been caged and poisoned in experiments, when PETA's vigorous campaigning helped win their freedom.
PETA learned that the 70 dogs had been shipped to India after animal-breeding facility Beijing Marshall Biotechnology Co, Ltd, gave false assurances to the airline used for the animals' transport – which had a strict policy against transporting animals to laboratories – that the beagles "won't be hurt or killed as Lab Animal [sic]". We then notified the Committee for the Purpose of Control and Supervision of Experimentation on Animals that it was falsely stated on an Animal Quarantine and Certification Services document that the dogs were meant to be "pets" rather than to be used in experiments. We also solicited the help of MP Maneka Gandhi, People for Animals Chennai and Blue Cross Chennai.
With the help of government officials and others, all 70 of the pups were handed over to animal protection groups and can now enjoy long lives in loving homes rather than being poisoned, cut open and eventually killed in excruciating experiments that are routinely conducted on these friendly and docile dogs in laboratories in India and around the world.
While this victory demonstrates great progress in our campaign to help animals in laboratories, much more needs to be done to stop the thousands of often deadly experiments conducted on animals in India every single day. By making a special secure donation online today you'll be helping to provide us with the resources we must have to help beagles, monkeys, mice and all animals who are right now being exploited and abused.
Thank you for your compassion and your help in stopping animal tests.
