Palm Oil - in the Cooking Industry
A common cooking ingredient in Africa, Southeast Asia and parts of Brazil. Since Palm Oil is of a lower quality than Olive Oil, it remained rare outside West Africa. Its increasing use in the commercial Food Industry... because: 1) Palm Oil has the LOWEST Production COST of the major Oils, and 2) Products last more time in the Supermarket shelves!! for the high oxidative stability (saturation) of the refined product when used for frying. Many processed foods contain Palm Oil but it is NOT DECLARED on Labels!!! Or Label simply says: "Vegetable Oils"!! Try to read a Chips Packet Label, just as an example!! This is a real offence to all of us, but particularly to VEGANS and VEGETARIANS devoting their lifestyle not to hurt animals, while, like all customers, they are unwillingly and unconsciously contributing to the SLAUGHTER of Tigers, Elephants, Rhinos, Wildlife... and GENOCIDE of Orangutans, who share 97% DNA with us!!!
Are all those people blind? Can't they see the consequences of what they do? Why does New Zealand need palm oil to produce its milk?
Greed as usual! But the earth is not infinite.
A whole country is being destroyed and its inhabitants (I mean orang utans) are being killed to satisfy the greed of a few people.
Sickening.
Thank you for the info. It makes it clearer why palm oil is used that much.
As it happens, they'd better use olive oil. They used to use it, so I conclude it's possible to go on that way.
Many Thanks Michela- gladly signed/shared~~ I appreciate all of your efforts very much~~~
gladly signed Michela

Petition: Stop Fonterra importing Palm Kernel
http://www.greenpeace.org/new-zealand/en/take-action/Take-action-online/fonterra/#TakeAction
Over the last decade Fonterra’s increasingly industrial approach to dairying has introduced supplementary feeds such as Palm Kernel expeller (PKE) from South East Asia. Palm Kernel imports are expected to reach well over 1 Million Tons this year from virtually nothing in 1999. This is part of an overall shift from pastoral to industrial dairying in New Zealand. As a result, agriculture is now responsible for 49% of NZ's domestic Greenhouse Gas Emissions. There is no need for New Zealand’s dairy products to be produced at the expense of Tropical Rainforests, Endangered Orangutans, New Zealand’s clean green reputation, or the Climate.
