New!! Petition: Pls help to stop the Palm Oil Mafia! https://www.rainforest-rescue.org/mailalert/873?mt=1375
28,533 Signatures, Target: Nestlé, Unilever & Neste Oil. The conversion of Forest into Palm Oil plantations is shattering Indonesia: we must conserve Borneo's Rainforests for us & our children. 7,000 hectares illegally cleared for chocolate & traffic fuel: March23rd 2012 The residents of the village TumbangKalang in the province of Central Kalimantan denounce a huge environmental crime: 7,000 hectares of dense Virgin Forest have been cut down, profitable Oil Palms have been planted on half of this area; 1,000 people have lost their Forest with its natural rubber & fruit trees; the soils & waters have been contaminated.
The Corporation responsible is Palm Oil giant IOI – a supplier for Nestlé, Unilever & traffic fuels producer Neste Oil. All 3 companies publicly pride themselves for their efforts in "sustainability".

Also to those people who have been offering kind advice over my problems with the Care2 site, I would like to thank you and I am sorry, but this is the only way I can reach you. I cannot send/receive Care2 emails. I cannot send messages or post messages on other members pages. I have even tried to send messages by e cards and I do not think that works either. I have contacted Care2 quite a few times about this problem and they have failed to reply.
Sorry Michela for using your page, but it seems to be the only way I can contact other members.

Video: Save the Rainforest! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lv3dowL4cuE&feature=player_detailpage

2010: the numbers are so much worse than what you will see on this video. So Sad! Mankind has taken over & left destruction all around his Greed! The Author: a short video I made to show everyone the reality of Deforestation. If you're not too interested in the subject but stumble across my video, still take a look; it's definitely worth it. I hope you were as surprised as me, by all these facts. I originally made this as an alternate to a Geography report, so if you're a teacher, show this to your students.. it's an easy way to get pupils to understand the real problem about cutting down the Rainforest!
Signed, thanks.

Noted, signed & up to date. Thanks Michela.
All signed. I have to say that I do not do this or any other environmental activities for my child or anyone's grandchildren. I do them for the environments and the animals who live in them. It is to them that we have a duty, a responsibility because we, or our species, are the ones who are destroying them. If was not for people they would be fine. Ny daughter will not die, her home will not be destroyed because of palm oil or APP. It is all about the Earth and the animals for me.
Thanks Michela, Bruce and Wendy signed.

Swiss authorities have launched a criminal investigation into whether Banking Giant UBS laundered money on behalf of a Malaysian politician who allegedly received illegal payments for allowing Logging in Borneo. The decision by the Federal Prosecutors' Office came after The Bruno Manser Foundation, an activist group, filed a complaint against UBS, which was named by Malaysia's anti-corruption agency — the MACC — in a money laundering scheme involving Musa Aman, the chied Minister of the Malaysian state of Sabah. Aman & his associates allegedly transferred $90 million through several UBS bank accounts in Hong Kong. Aman is also said to have a personal UBS account in Zurich.

Obama’s Biggest Climate Decision Of The Year May Be … Palm Oil? http://www.care2.com/causes/obamas-biggest-climate-decision-of-the-year-may-be-palm-oil.html
May17, 2012 - The Obama administration is poised to make one of the biggest climate policy decisions of its entire administration – & it’s not about coal, oil, or gas, but rainforests. EPA is deciding whether or not Palm Oil should be included in the Renewable Fuel Standard, which mandates that American motorists use 36 billion gallons of biofuel in their cars & trucks by 2022. In order to qualify for inclusion, Palm Oil would have to cut greenhouse gas pollution by at least 20% compared to gasoline.
Scientists or Lobbyists: Who Do You Trust to Act For The Rainforest? http://www.care2.com/causes/scientists-or-lobbyists-who-do-you-trust-to-act-for-the-rainforest.html
June16, 2012 In what has been called the biggest climate decision of the year for the Obama Administration, the Indonesian and Malaysian palm oil industries are flexing their lobbying muscle to overturn a crucial, science-based decision by the US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA).

Signed. Orangutans are as intelligent as ten-year-old children. You wouldn't allow such tortures to be inflicted on your children. Why then do you allow that to happen to orangutans?
Signed, thanks.

Orangutans, Indigenous Peoples, & one of the world's great Ecosystems are being driven to extinction in the near future by the criminal, exceptionally brutal practices of the Indonesian Palm Oil industry!!
Playing catch up with what I missed
Three conservation groups warn that a proposed Palm Oil plantation puts a significant Bornean Orangutan (Pongo pygmaeus) population at risk in the Malaysian state of Sabah. The plantation, which would cover 400 hectares of private forest land, lies adjacent to Kulamba Wildlife Reserve, home to 480 Orangutans.
Cal: http://www.care2.com/news/member/193692282/3522261Juvenile Orangutan in the Kulamba Wildlife Reserve, which, along with adjacent forests, supports an estimated 480 Orangutans

I'm doing the same Ellen.
hope the invitations helped Mic.

News: Second Chance For Baby Orangutan Found on Palm Oil Plantation http://www.care2.com/causes/second-chance-for-baby-orangutan-found-on-palm-oil-plantation.html#comment-4724415
A baby Orangutan became the 1st resident of a new sanctuary in Western Borneo, just days after it was opened by Int.l Animal Rescue. The orphan was found on the estate of a Palm Oil plantation by a local villager. The IAR team and the local Nature Conservancy Agency (BKSDA Kalimantan Barat) rescued the young orangutan on Feb.16. He was immediately taken to the new facility where the medical team determined him to be approx.18-months-old. The infant is in good health, although he is very underweight & has a distended stomach.
The property where the Orangutan was found is owned by PT Kayong Agro Lestari (KAL) whose parent company PT Austindo Nusantara Jaya (ANJ) runs 4 Palm Oil plantations in Indonesia. The estate sits on part of a Forest that was once home to many Orangutans. This is the 6th baby rescued from the PT KAL plantation area. IAR rescuers named the baby, Tribun, or Tri for short. “It is frustrating that these companies cause so much damage & are responsible for the displacement of so many Orangutans, but have never taken responsibility for the damage that their business activities have caused to the environment”
In Dec., IAR released a young Orangutan named Pelansiback into the wild after he was rescued from a snare. Pelansi’s arm had to be amputated, but the Orangutan was successfully retrained to survive in the wild with one arm.

Thank God for the local villager and the organizations that took action. The little guy is just adorable! Thanks, Michela!
I found and posted a comment on the article "Second Chance for Baby Orangutan" just today, 2 days after it was posted. I often think of Pelansi and wonder how he is doing in the wild after release, but couldn't find an update. I did find this info on this new rescue that I thought was worth posting here:
International Animal Rescue news Feb 2013 First baby orangutan arrives at IAR's new Orangutan Rescue and Conservation CentreJust days after the official opening of its new Orangutan Centre in West Kalimantan (Indonesian Borneo), the Indonesian arm of UK charity International Animal Rescue (IAR) has taken in its first orangutan. The baby orangutan was apparently found on the estate of palm company PT Kayong Agro Lestari by a local villager.
The PT Kayong Agro Lestari concession belongs to PT Austindo Nusantara Jaya (ANJ). Ironically, PT ANJ has been a member of the RSPO (Roundtable for Sustainable Palm Oil) since 2007. (Shocking? Disheartening?)
It goes on to say:
This most recent rescue by IAR Indonesia follows another one about a year ago when the orangutan named Pelansi was rescued from a snare at the same plantation in Kuala Satong village (formerly named Pelansi village). Pelansi was subsequently released back into the wild by BKSDA and Yayasan IAR Indonesia. This latest baby orangutan marks the sixth orangutan rescued from PT KAL plantation area.
“The rehabilitation of orangutans is very expensive. As a non-governmental organisation we need to look for funds from donations and individuals”, explains Karmele L Sanchez, Executive Director of IAR Indonesia, “and it is frustrating that these companies cause so much damage and are responsible for the displacement of so many orangutans, but have never taken responsibility for the damage that their business activities have caused to the environment. Currently, our centre in Western Borneo is already taking care of 57 orangutans. Alongside the lengthy process of rehabilitation we currently struggle to find suitable release sites where we can return all these orangutans to their natural habitat, as large areas of forest in the area have already been converted into oil palm plantations.”
who might then join the ban on purchasing any product made with palm oil. This needs to happen before orangutans, regardless of rescue organizations' efforts, become extinct.

Signed 2 & 5, thank you for bringing awareness to these...will also share them on to others :-)
Thanks for Sharing also on other Social Networks, above all on FaceBook!! It’s my personal revenge as FaceBook Disabled my Account in May2010!!! On FB I recruited more than 3,500 to my Animal/Environmental Causes (OrangutanOutreach, OrangutanLandTrust, Don't Palm Us Off, JaneGoodall Inst., TheCove, Rapes in Congo, etc) I had 3,500 Friends & made Donations for $635. I LOST EVERYTHING when FB Disabled my Account (Entered the Care2 Community thereafter: in June2010). FB Disabled my ACCOUNT because I was posting my Link to “my” Petition for Orangutans, Tigers, Elephants, Wildlife, Biodiversity, Rainforests, “Label PalmOil" for which I worked hard, even 10 hrs/day, since when my UK friend Ryno Nel wrote it & I signed it for 3rd. FB considered it as a SPAM declaring I violated their rules!! Isn’t it more probable that the "PalmOil"/Oil/Logging/FastFood Lobby(Corporations) defend their Money/Greed Interests?? Same days: FB blocked also the Petition Against BP(the Gulf Disaster)!! Even if they DISABLED me: my Orangutan Petition reached Total 6,455 Signatures!!! Afterwards it was awaiting decisions by the EUParliament. If I disappear also from Care2 you know why....
2 signers of Avaaz petition #5 in this house!
signed 2 and 5! Thank you!
Happy Mother's day everyone! You are still a Mother if you have furbabies or even if you care for the Earth! It's the love of a 'Mother' that counts! And I know everyone here has that love.
Signed, thank you Michela!
To THOSE who STATE that WE CAN DO NOTHING about Climate Change: Yes, WE are only one single DROP, but ALL together: we are an OCEAN!! ALL together we can make a difference!!
At this point, being still PASSIVE & PESSIMISTIC DOESN'T HELP HUMANITY, nor WILDLIFE, nor OUR CHILDREN or GRANDCHILDREN!! WE NEED to REACT & ACT!!! NOT REMAIN still PASSIVE!!! WE MUST NOT GIVE UP!!!!
Being ACTIVE & not PASSIVE CAN STILL HELP US!!!!!
MAKING GOVERNMENTS UNDERSTAND that WE ARE FED UP of the BIG CORPORATION CONTROL (i.e.= MONEY & GREED) that is taking ALL SPECIES & LIFE on EARTH in general, to ESTINGUISH!! WE OWE THIS TO OUR CHILDREN!!
Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed citizens can change the world -Margaret Mead (Anthropologist)
2) Pet.: Remind the EPA that Palm Oil is dirty! https://www.rainforest-rescue.org/mailalert/879?ref=nl&mt=1393
73,084 Signatures – I signed with all my family Emails!!!! The Rainforests are the lungs of our planet & must be protected. The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) recently determined that Palm Oil should not be included in the Renewable Fuel Standard, because Palm Oil causes the most pollution due to the clearing & burning dense Rainforests, many of them on carbon-rich peatland, for Oil Palm plantations.
The PalmOil industry is vigorously attacking EPA's conclusion, alleging it's based on inaccurate assumptions & data. It doesn't want it used to disqualify Palm Oil-based fuels from the Renewable Fuels Standard (RFS). The industry has hired lobbying companies like Holland & Knight to overturn EPA’s preliminary finding that Palm-based biofuels don’t meet the greenhouse gas standards of the federal renewable auto fuels mandate.
Indonesia is the world's biggest PalmOil producer: the widespread Deforestation for new plantations has made Indonesia the world’s 3rd biggest Global Warming polluter & has led to the killing of Endangered Species like Orangutans.

5) New!! Pet.: The Plan to kill Orangutans http://www.avaaz.org/en/the_plan_to_kill_orangutans_o/?tSgsyeb
SHARE THIS PETITION AS MUCH AS YOU CAN!!!!!!!!
Target: Indonesian President - …the last place on Earth where Endangered Orangutans, Rhinos, Elephants, & Tigers still roam together -- but it'll be bulldozed to bits unless we give our President a massive global wake up call to step in right now & save this unique habitat.
A logging ban here in Indonesia has been a life insurance policy for our critically endangered species. But it's about to expire, & now an area the size of a small country could be turned over to Mining & Palm Oil companies who've been lobbying behind the scenes to trash this Forest for a quick profit! If the Avaaz community lets the President know his global reputation, & hoped for future career at the UN, are at stake, we can get him to extend the ban & silence the chainsaws!! We need to act fast -- the Forestry Ministry wants to approve this disaster, but the President cares about his conservationist image, & can block this Orangutan-killing plan & renew the nationwide logging ban. Sign the urgent petition & tell everyone about this mortal threat to our majestic forest. If a million sign in the next 3 days, we'll get major media in Indonesia to cover this, & I'll make sure the President hears us loud & clear!

Signed, thanks Michela.
