Exxon hates sanctions against Russia, drilling in the Arctic!
A lavish cruise company announced a trip through Arctic waters. It will cost tens of thousands per person, but will cost the environment even more. Say no to implementing this cruise.
Say No To Risky Arctic Drilling, Ocean Conservancy
The U.S. government is starting to prepare a five-year program—spanning the years 2017 to 2022—that could open the Arctic Ocean to oil and gas drilling. Stand with us against new oil and gas leasing and protect the animals and people who depend on a clean, healthy Arctic Ocean.
Tell the Bureau of Ocean Energy Management (BOEM) to say no to risky Arctic drilling.

Say NO to Drilling in the Arctic Ocean
'LEGO Must Cut Ties With Big Oil
The Arctic is a beautiful place with unique wildlife like polar bears, narwhals, walrus and other wondrous animals. However, it is a fragile ecosystem and an oil spill would be devastating. Despite this, Shell Oil wants to drill in the Arctic, putting this magnificent environment in extreme jeopardy. Unfortunately, Shell is being supported in its dirty business by LEGO, which includes Shell branded items in its children’s toys. Tell LEGO it’s time to take a stand against Arctic destruction. Demand LEGO cut ties with Shell Oil.
Have signed everything. But when the News hits me that oil spills are commercially profitable for These companies, I really start to lose hope
End illegal Antarctica whaling today!
A Court of Appeals recently blocked efforts of multi-national oil company Shell to drill off the coast of Alaska. This effort has done a great service to the native wildlife of Alaska and the native tribes who survive though their traditional subsistence cultures. Thank this court and encourage further protection of this area.

Hope I've signed all of them. It's just so unbelievable that politicians don't Seem to be able to understand that they're just simply ruining our world - the only one we've got - by letting commerce rule. Don't they understand or don't they care? After all many of them have children. So if not for their own sakes, then for the sake of what they will be leaving to the children.

Commend End of Whaling in Antartica
The International Court of Justice recently ruled that Japan’s whaling efforts in Antarctica must be halted, as the killing is not for research, but for commercial use. Sign this petition and thank the courts for protecting our whales.
The Arctic Ocean is the last place we should be drilling for oil. The Arctic is home to unique wildlife, including the entire US population of polar bears and is an essential migration route for bowhead and beluga whales. It is also home to the most extreme and dangerous conditions for oil drilling on the planet. Let’s stop the next environmental disaster before it occurs and ban oil drilling in the Arctic Ocean.

If not stopped, the largest open-pit mine in North America will soon be built in Bristol Bay, Alaska. This pristine region is home to the world’s largest sockeye salmon fishery, and would be devastated by the mine. In order to protect the sockeye salmon and the surrounding ecosystem, we must ensure this gigantic open-pit mine is stopped.

I share your pessimistic sight Jan. Our planet will be ruined and future generations have to pay the bill.
Up to date! You're a star, dear Monika!
This is a catastrophe and President Obama has plummeted in my estimation. However as long as people are driving cars and using finite energy at present day levels this is the result. Humans are on a collision course with the environment and this has been known about for decades. I wonder how many people would relinquish their cars? The electric car has not exactly taken off.
It would take an enormous commitment from every person in the world to turn this around. I am very pessimistic. It has not been in the giant oil companies' interests to allow the real development of clean green alternatives. Governments have never stood up to them and now the Arctic is going to pay the price - as will we all eventually.
is there any way to turn this around? this is catastrophic!
USA: Obama Ignores Huge Dangers in Approving Arctic Drilling Permit for Shell
Drilling Set to Begin Immediately Risks Massive Spills, Polar Bears, Walruses, Bowhead Whales
Update 21 December 2012:
U.S. unveils plan to manage huge Alaskan oil reserve
August 30, 2012
Contact: Rebecca Noblin, (907) 274-1110
ANCHORAGE, Alaska— The Obama administration today gave Shell Oil the initial approval to begin controversial and dangerous oil drilling in the Arctic Ocean off Alaska, despite the fact that a critical oil-spill containment vessel is still awaiting certification in Bellingham, Wash. Until now, the Arctic Ocean has largely been off limits to offshore drilling. Shell Oil is expected to begin the initial phases of exploratory drilling in the Chukchi Sea as soon as it can get its drillship in place, in the heart of habitat critical to the survival of polar bears.
“By opening the Arctic to offshore oil drilling, President Obama has made a monumental mistake that puts human life, wildlife and the environment in terrible danger. The harsh and frozen conditions of the Arctic make drilling risky, and an oil spill would be impossible to clean up,” said Rebecca Noblin, Alaska director at the Center for Biological Diversity. “Scariest of all, the Obama administration is allowing Shell to go forward without even having the promised oil-spill containment equipment in place.”
Since 2007, the Center and its allies have successfully protected the Arctic Ocean from Shell's exploratory drilling plans...

Arctic Drilling Is Not Worth The Risks!
The Arctic Ocean is one of the most delicate ecosystems in the world and the home of numerous endangered animal species. Why risk destroying it with unsafe oil drilling measures?
At present, no technology exists that can fully and properly clean an oil spill, let alone one in frigid polar waters. What's to stop an environmental disaster like the 2010 Gulf of Mexico oil spill from happening in the Arctic as well? How would the oil companies clean their mess in water temperatures that drop below freezing? And what would happen to the whales, polar bears, seals and other wildlife that inhabit the area?
Instead of rushing to find and drill oil, we need to take a step back and conduct further research into alternative energies. Feeding our oil addiction at the expense of protecting wildlife is illogical and irresponsible.

Protect Irreplaceable Arctic Habitat
Dear Audubon Advocate,
Millions of birds like this Pacific Loon nest in the Reserve. Send your comments today to protect irreplaceable Arctic habitat.
The Department of Interior is finalizing the first-ever comprehensive management plan for America's largest tract of public land, the nearly 23-million acre National Petroleum Reserve-Alaska (Reserve). The proposed plan would safeguard key areas Audubon has been working to protect for nearly two decades. The Reserve provides habitat vital for millions of migratory birds, two large caribou herds, grizzly bear, polar bear, wolves, wolverine, Arctic fox, walrus, and ice seals.
We need an overwhelming show of public support for the new plan! Send YOUR citizen comments today.
Since 1976, Congress has specifically recognized that the Reserve contains special areas with extraordinary natural resources that should be protected. The proposed plan would protect 11 million acres of exceptional wildlife habitat—roughly the size of Massachusetts and Connecticut combined—while still allowing development of the great majority of the area's oil resources in less sensitive habitats.
The proposed plan protects vital wetlands surrounding Teshekpuk Lake, which lies at the heart of a globally-significant Important Bird Area that has been a special focus of Audubon for many years. Bird nesting habitat at Teshekpuk Lake may be the most productive in the entire circumpolar Arctic, supporting species such as the rare Yellow-billed Loon and the threatened Spectacled Eider, along with a diversity of other waterfowl and shorebird species. All told, the plan protects 96 percent of the priority areas in the Reserve identified by Audubon scientists as critical wildlife habitat.
As the Department of Interior works to finalize the plan, your comments are urgently needed to ensure the Administration follows through and delivers these historic protections for the migratory birds and iconic Arctic wildlife that rely on the Reserve. Please send in your comments as soon as possible.

You are right Lenicka. At least for one year there is a stop. But for the longer run, I share your opinion
I'm not so euphoric
First, it is only this year , thats 3 months
Second , they have not the technical possibilities on this moment to solve all the problems , that that area enclose.
So , I doubt that this decision is an result of the environment movement.
Third , Shell has one day before , made a statement , after an action of Greenpeace, that they will never stop their efforts, to drill in the Antarctic.
Shell is going over death people , see Nigeria.
Shell is one of the most powerful organizations in the world.
Political , in food ( they have enormous interests in the food industry) , in energy provision , and a lot more.
They are more powerful than all the governments in the world.
On the moment that they have the knowledge how to drill , and how to solve all the other problems , they are going to drill.
And all the governments will allow that , because of the energy problem.
