Protect Endangered Red Wolves From Hunting

'

Protect Red Wolves ' The North Carolina Wildlife Resources Commission is making a serious mistake. By allowing residents to hunt coyotes at night using spotlights, they have placed the area's red wolves--the only wild red wolf population in existence and one of the world's most endangered animals--in grave peril.

Red wolves and coyotes appear very similar, even in daylight. In nighttime conditions, it is nearly impossible to tell the animals apart. At least two red wolves have already been illegally shot because of this mistake.

There are now only about 100 red wolves left in the wild. With such a small population, each individual is vital to the survival of the species. The Wildlife Resources Commission needs to stop all coyote hunting immediately!

If these despicable deranged monsters are in the woods still hunting her, how are they going to know that it has been terminated!!!!!! Poor Susi, she must be so exhausted and terrified, I cannot even begin to imagine what she must be feeling. It is absolutely horrendous and sickening and my heart breaks everytime I read about her. Seriously, if I had money I would have hired a team by now and hunted these evil scumbags into extinction.

The hunt on Susi the Swedish Wolf, is officially illegal!

Update from Robin Hood: breaking news - News about Susi the Wolf! Message from Sweden: 2 Complaints against the hunt on Susi were legal and accepted, according to the Upper District Court in Stockholm. The hunt on Susi has to be terminated immediately! Also, the investigation against the involved party's (hunters) will start, but 'since the hunters are in the forests, they can deny having heard about this, depending on their network connectivity..'

Yippeee!!!!!!!!!!!!!! GREAT NEWS ANNEKE !!! I'll post it in Victories for Animals topic!!!

Salazar is leaving!!! Some good news!

From Robert Goldman: Hi there all wolf and wildlife lovers,

GREAT NEWS FOR AMERICA'S WOLVES AND ALL NATIVE WILDLIFE.... Yeeee haaaaaa!!!!!

Colorado rancher Ken Salazar, one of the worst Secretary of Interior appointments in modern history, directly responsible for the death of thousands of innocent wolves and wild horses and countless other of America's precious native wild beings, is leaving his position in March!!!!

Everyone who lobbied for Salazar's departure from this sacred position as the United States chief wildlife and wild lands official helped push this awful, brutal cattle rancher out of a position he should never ever have held for even a minute.

Salazar was the very worst of Pres. Obama's cabinet appointments. Shame on Pres. Obama for making such a destructive and terrible choice. It's our turn now... and more importantly the wolves and wild horses and coyotes and grizzly bears and bison and prairie dogs and... all of the continent's native wildlife!!!

Now, we must make sure that the right person is appointed to this hugely important position! Those of you who have signed the Protect America's Wolves! petition have already received two Action EMails asking you to call and email the White House demanding the firing of Salazar and the hiring of US Rep Raul Grijalva of Arizona. Rep Grijalva is the choice of hundreds of conservation and wildlife groups, Native American and Hispanic and Women's organizations and an impressive number of other groups devoted to animal welfare, recreation, ethics, business and labor.

We are going to lobby hard for the appointment of US Rep Raul Grijalva as the next US Secretary of Interior!! Look for more Action EMails relating to this vital action shortly.

If you can't wait another minute, here are two ways you can reach the White House right now:

1. Call the White House comment line at: 1-202-456-1111

2. Submit your comments through the White House comment line at: http://www.whitehouse.gov/contact/submit-questions-and-comments

We must also communicate our choice loud and clear to each of our Congressional Representatives and Senators, so that Pres. Obama hears our collective voice... and listens and honors our choice this time!!!

Salazar's departure is great news. But we must make sure that a good and decent person who stands with the restoration and protection America's native wildlife, including America's vital and beautiful wolves, and our precious wild lands, is the next Secretary of Interior!!!

Thank you for continuing to defend and fight for America's ecologically vital and beautiful wolves and all our native wild neighbors that deserve freedom and life as much as we do.

Susi, the hunted wolf STILL ALIVE! But for how long?
A Swedish animal rights activist did yesterday hunting Susi impossible. With its quad she disturbed until the hunters have given up annoyed.

At this point: Thank You for the courage! I know that such an action is dangerous, because I was already shot himself once!
Now they informed us but about a dramatic turn:

Here is the original message:

"We have yet here in Sweden yesterday 2 against suing the hunting decision before court, normally must be stopped hunting immediately, yet the hunters are again driven snow scooter with over 20 in the woods, this time with dogs that are now claiming susie have the dog attacked and was shot so she must not punish the responsible erlaub.also fear that this is the opposite to sue are now completely igal "

Robin Hood is the protest by e-mail continued! Write a protest email to. Lena Enk, the Swedish Minister for the Environment. In addition, the e-mails at the same time go to the Swedish embassies in Germany, Austria and Switzerland!

In addition, we now inform the European Court!
Please help:
Invite other animal lovers and for a protest.
There's news with us on Facebook.
And of course our protest mail action is 24 hours a day.

My hope and my fear:
Susi ... Please hang in there until the leaders are human enough and call off the hunt!

As a Vietnam veteran, I plead with you to stop killing everything on Earth!

-- James of Florida

I was born and raised in Wyoming and I oppose the killing of wolves. Our ecosystem needs them and they belong here!

-- Tina of Wyoming

Corrupt state wildlife agencies, governors and legislators, in Idaho, Montana, Wyoming, Minnesota and Wisconsin have all joined an unjust, ethically corrupt Hall of Shame in massacreing America's ecologically vital, innocent and beautiful wolves.

The death toll now stands at over 900 precious wolves persecuted and killed due to the dishonesty and brutality of cattlemen, the blood lust of sadistic hunters and trappers, corrupt politicians and the lack of awareness or apathy of the public.

Governor Rick Snyder of Michigan is the only person who stands between the fewer than 700 vital and innocent wolves there and those who would kill them for "sport and fun." If Gov. Snyder refuses to honor the will of the two thirds of Michigan residents who have voiced their opposition to the killing of wolves in their homeland, this Great Lakes state will join the corrupt Hall of Shame.

Gov. Snyder now has the unique opportunity to be the first governor, the first true leader, who shows the rest of the country and the world that the United States is not the forever mindlessly brutal and violent place, for innocent animals and people, that we so often are and have been.

Gov. Snyder: will you be the one governor who puts science, a healthy ecology, decency, the innocent wolf and the respectful voice of a majority of your fellow citizens, ahead of the wolf demonizers, haters and sport killers?

_______________________________

WOLF DEFENDERS, HERE IS WHAT YOU CAN DO TO DEFEND THE WOLVES OF MICHIGAN NOW AND IN THE COMING WEEK:

1. Call Governor Rick Snyder at: 1-517-335-7858

2. Visit www.Michigan.gov and then click on "Governor' where you can leave a comment:

https://somgovweb.state.mi.us/GovRelations/ShareOpinion.aspx
US only..

Urge Governor Snyder to stand with science, ecology, decency and the respectful, humane majority. Demand that he stop the hunting and trapping of any wolves in Michigan before it starts.

Dear Sir,

Republican State Representative Matt Huuki proposed a bill on August 15th
to legalize Grey Wolf hunting in Michigan, to reduce livestock loss.

Statistics show there has only been 4 livestock losses in 2012 from the states 700 wolves.

This bill would include killing wolves that have not preyed on livestock,- and make wolves a general "game species".

Disruption of wolf packs who are not preying on livestock may actually increases the likelyhood that they will turn to preying on livestock- as their natural structure would be grossly altered.

This bill is not based in sound science, but rather caters to special interest hunting groups who consider hunting and killing a sport and recreation.
Typically, "game species" are used as a food source, not as a bloodsport or target practice.

Wolves play a very important role in ecosystems, as the country found out a few decades ago when they were hunted to near extinction, and had to be re-introduced.
I urge you to stop the plans for an open season wolf hunt.

Sincerely:

Cattlemen, then as now, have been the most intolerant and vicious opponents of the wolf and all native wildlife. Cattlemen continue to spread lies and misinformation about predation of cattle by wolves, which is statistically almost zero in every state. Cattlemen stand in the way of an American majority that has been ready for a long time to live in this country in a more respectful, kind and loving way. A better way that honors and repects wildlife, that allows all native wildlife to live free on their native land, which still has so much room for all of us. Wolves, bison, grizzly and black bears, prairie dogs, mountain lions,  coyotes, wild horses, wolverines, beavers, fox and all other native beings, all have their place under the sun, throughout the American West and throughout the entire country.

It's time to say NO to the cattlemen. NO to their intolerance, NO to their brutality, NO to their disrespect towards native wildlife, NO to their lies and hysteria, NO to their contempt for the humane American majority and most of all NO to their destruction of America's native wildlife and wild lands.

NO TO COLORADO RANCHER KEN SALAZAR, WHO HAS BEEN A DISASTER AS SECRETARY OF INTERIOR. As chief wildlife officer of the United States, the right wing Salazar is responsible for leading the persecution and death of many thousands of wolves, thousands of wild horses and so many other iconic, vital and beautiful members of America's wild heritage.

I URGE YOU, PRESIDENT OBAMA, TO FIRE KEN SALAZAR IMMEDIATELY AND REPLACE HIM WITH US REP. RAUL GRIJALVA. Congressman Grijalva of Arizona has the support of many hundreds of conservation and wildlife groups, Native American and Hispanic and Women's organizations and an impressive number of other groups devoted to animal welfare, recreation, ethics, business and labor.

Subject: Blue Range Wolf Recovery Area

Dear Sir,

Blue Range Wolf Recovery Area stretches across east-central Arizona and west-central New Mexico. This area includes the Apache National Forest and the Gila National Forest, and accounts for more than 6800 square miles of territory.

Wolf trapping on federal land hinders wolf restoration and the harm caused to wolves by traps violates the Endangered Species Act.
Since 2002, traps have injured or killed 14 Mexican gray wolves. Two had entire limbs amputated, one endured a partial foot amputation and dozens have simply vanished.

Wolves harmed or killed by traps and snares have their chance of survival greatly reduced. They sustain tissue damage and other injuries that reduce their fitness to care for and feed their pups.
In addition to the physical damage, wolves endure psychological trauma, dehydration, and exposure.

With fewer than 60 Mexican wolves in the bi-state recovery area, wolf trapping is very poor management.
Ban trapping of the Mexican gray wolf in the Blue Range Recovery Area.

Subject: Mexican Wolves

Sir: I would like to remind that the last population count found only 58 Mexican gray wolves in the wild and an aggressive genetic rescue program that frees many wolves into the wild is needed.
The wild population of Mexican wolves is at tremendous risk due to its small size and genetics and in its proposal for 2013, the Fish and Wildlife Service is planning to only put out one or two more wolves within or next to existing wolves’ territories,
and says the new wolves will be killed or removed if they become a “nuisance.”

I hold the US Fish and Wildlife Service accountable for achieving its reintroduction project objectives by doing the following:

  • Create a new plan for recovery to replace the antiquated one developed in 1982.
  • Provide wolves greater protection by rescinding the experimental non –essential designation.
  • Allow wolves to roam freely, just as other wildlife are permitted (including wolves elsewhere).
  • Improve genetic diversity in the wild population by reintroducing new wolves into the wild.
  • Continue to keep wolves in the wild to ensure survival and intact packs.
  • Expand the area for new wolf releases.

Support non-lethal options for reducing wolf-livestock conflicts:

  • Using temporary electric fencing, range riders, guard dogs and other non-lethal means of preventing livestock predation
  • Requiring livestock owners to remove dead livestock from public lands or render the carcasses inedible (by applying lime) to prevent wolves from being attracted to livestock
  • Permanently retiring grazing allotments when permits are abandoned or voluntarily ceded back to the U.S. Forest Service
  • Offering incentives to livestock owners, such as voluntary purchase agreements, to permanently retire grazing allotments within the wolf recovery area, especially in areas of high conflict

Because the Service is using the mere presence of livestock as a justification not to release wolves into a wider range of the available area in Arizona,
and because the agency has refused to change the rule that arbitrarily excludes new wolves from being released directly into New Mexico, almost every release alternative in the proposal involves releasing wolves into or near the territory of an existing wild pack.
This is less than ideal and can be avoided by changing the rule and using proactive measures with livestock.
I love and support wolves and I stress that the majority of New Mexico and Arizona voters support the Mexican wolf reintroduction.  Polling showed 69% support in New Mexico and 77% support in Arizona.Wolves have ecological benefits to the entire ecosystems and all wildlife.
Wildlife biologists believe that Mexican wolves will improve the overall health of the Southwest and its rivers and streams – just as the return of gray wolves to Yellowstone has helped restore balance to its lands and waters.

Sincerely:

Dear Mr. President,

The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service is deliberating the proposed removal
of nearly all Endangered Species Act protections for gray wolves in the
lower 48 states, with the possible exception of the Mexican gray wolf.
This delisting would be a conservation nightmare.

Delisting would turn wolf management decisions over to the states, and
we've already seen what can happen when federal protections for wolves
are eliminated. Montana, Wyoming and Idaho -- all states where wolves
have been delisted -- have become free-fire zones.
Hundreds of wolves
have been gunned down or trapped, and as the recent tragic killing of
eight collared Yellowstone wolves outside the boundary of the park
attests, the sustainability of wolves in the Rockies is in jeopardy.

I demand that wolves retain the federal protection they need to ensure
their recovery in the wild.

Sincerely,

Dear Sir,

The lottery style scheme to kill wolves is being supported by the British Columbia government when it appears to be in violation of section 206 and 207 of the Criminal Code of Canada.

The contest, offering prizes that include $1,000 for the largest wolf killed and $150 for the smallest, with a maximum of three dead wolves per contestant, requires a licence from the provincial government in order to be legal.

Unlimited, unregulated and unlicencened open season killing of wolves without mandatory reporting and inspection is not sound wildlife managment.

I urge you to stop awarding prize money for a contest that is criminal in nature.

Sincerely:

Re: Buffer, Yellowstone National Park. Wolfs

Mittwoch, 12. Dezember, 2012 01:45 Uhr
Von:

This is in response to your recent e-mail to the Wyoming Game and Fish Department concerning wolves.

As I’m sure you are aware, the recovery of wolves in Wyoming and throughout the northern Rocky Mountains has been one of the most successful conservation stories ever. And it has also been one of the most controversial.

Wolves were exterminated from most of the lower 48 states, including Wyoming, in the early 20th Century. In the mid 1990s, the federal government transplanted Canadian wolves to the northern Rocky Mountains. Since then, wolves in this region have done extremely well. The original criteria for a recovered population of wolves in the northern Rocky Mountains, which was established by the US Fish and Wildlife Service, was around 300. Today there are more than 1700 wolves in the region. At the end of 2011, the last time there was an official estimate, there were approximately 328 wolves in Wyoming alone.

The landscape that wolves were reintroduced to is quite different than the landscape of 100 years ago. Today, in northwest Wyoming, we have some areas of wilderness with abundant habitat and prey populations necessary to maintain a recovered population of wolves. Other areas in Wyoming are used largely for livestock and other agricultural purposes. Those areas of the state do not have adequate habitat and prey for wolves. And wolves that expand into those areas are almost constantly in conflict with wildlife and with people.

Wyoming’s wolf management plan is a science-based approach for maintaining a recovered population of wolves in areas where there is adequate habitat for wolves, and for minimizing conflicts with livestock and people across the state. This sometimes means lethally removing wolves either through agency take or hunting.

Wolves were officially removed from the federal Endangered Species List in Wyoming on September 30, 2012, and the state currently has management authority for wolves. This change was made after extensive public comment at both the state and federal levels. According to a recent poll by the University of Wyoming, 82 percent of Wyoming residents agree with the hunting of wolves in Wyoming.

The Wyoming Game and Fish Department has been successfully managing the state’s wildlife for more than 100 years. Thanks in large part to the department’s science-based management, today we enjoy abundant populations of many wildlife species. Indeed, Wyoming’s wildlife resources are recognized worldwide for their abundance and diversity. The department has the experience, resources, and expertise to manage the state’s wolves as well.

Wyoming’s Wolf Management Plan will maintain a recovered population of wolves in northwestern Wyoming in areas where there is adequate habitat to sustain them. At the same time, our plan provides adequate tools for dealing with wolf conflicts. While I understand your concerns related to wolf management in Wyoming, please understand that we will not allow wolf populations to fall below recovery goals. Our plan requires that Wyoming maintain a minimum of 100 wolves and 10 breeding pairs in Wyoming outside Yellowstone National Park and the Wind River Reservation. Our quota for this season’s wolf hunt in the Wolf Trophy Game Management Area is only 52 wolves.

At this time, we do not see a need for large-scale changes to Wyoming’s wolf management. We are confident that our current plan will help to maintain healthy populations of wolves in the Yellowstone area, where people enjoy seeing them.

For more information about wolves in Wyoming, and for details about Wyoming’s wolf management plan, please visit the Wolf Information section of our website at: http://wgfd.wyo.gov/web2011/wildlife-1000380.aspx
