One quick Hoofy Hugs to all and thanks to all who sign. For you all   Will be busy next few days with paying bills and computer guy  and most of all old Dottie who can not stand so I spend a big part of the day and night cleaning floors, and her and feeding her, haven't even had time to look for a lawyer. I feel so bad for my old pupper and am preparing for the worst. She is 88 years old in dog years. Can't even bury her in the backyard if I have to because it's frozen solid. Anyway, please pray she hangs on a while longer for me. It's just all too much for me. I was able to find a co-host to help Kelly in "Our Voice" group while I am busy and while Kelly takes care of her problems too. She's a Hoofy and Fruddy-Buddy, Kate Keg. Well, Fruddys, as usual thanks for letting me "dump" on your shoulders. Feel free to reciprocate anytime. xoxoxoxoxo

Five-legged frogs and a newt graveyard in California

Save The Frogs, Dr. Kerry Kriger
To Me
Aug 14 at 11:07 AM

Dear Nancy,

If you think you've got problems, imagine being an amphibian in California. You would have to deal with developers of shopping malls and houses who would destroy your habitat without thinking twice; thousands of different pesticides that could contaminate the water where you breed; governments draining your wetlands to create dry land for golf courses; non-native bullfrogs and introduced trout trying to eat you; chytrid fungus infecting your skin. That's not all though: drought and trematode parasites are causing newt graveyards and five-legged frogs. Read on!

##############################################
New Video: Amphibian Limb Malformities

.
SAVE THE FROGS! joined Dr. Piet Johnson and his University of Colorado Boulder field crew last week for a survey of malformed amphibians in California's East Bay Regional Parks. We found lots of dead dried-up newts, and several Pacific Chorus Frogs with five legs.

Watch this brand new SAVE THE FROGS! video about amphibian malformities.

##############################################
A Newt Graveyard

When we were out with Dr. Johnson's lab surveying for malformed amphibians, we found 13 dried-up dead Rough Skinned Newts (Taricha granulosa) at this pond. There was no water left at the pond, it was just scorched, cracked earth.

SAVE THE FROGS! Personal Fundraising Webpages

Seven amazing frog lovers have taken the initiative to fundraise for the frogs using our incredible new Personal Fundraising Webpages. They've already raised $645 for frog conservation! That's a great start, but we need to raise a lot more money than that to stop the largest mass extinction event in 65 million years! Last May I designed 15 wetlands in northern California; now we need to raise $61,616 to construct the wetlands, which will assist endangered wildlife and provide valuable outdoor educational experiences to thousands of schoolchildren. Please help fundraise by creating your own Personal Fundraising Webpage. Thanks!

Pacific Chorus Frogs will be a primary benefactor of your fundraising efforts, as they will love the wetlands we are able to build with the funds you raise!

Save The Frogs Day 2014 in Gazipur, Bangladesh

The SAVE THE FROGS! network stretches around the planet. These Save The Frogs Day 2014 events at Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman Agricultural University in Gazipur, Bangladesh were funded in part by a $2,680 Save The Frogs Day Award to SAVE THE FROGS! Bangladesh, our all-volunteer team working to protect Bangladesh's amphibians.

Dear Nancy,

SAVE THE FROGS! Ghana receives much of their funding from foundations in Germany and the United Kingdom. Unfortunately foundations seldom pay for salaries or office rental. Right now SAVE THE FROGS! Ghana is without an office and their staff has not been paid in three months. We need to raise $2,680 to fix these problems and ensure that our West African operations can continue at full steam ahead. Our frog-loving Facebook fans have already helped us raise $500, so please follow suit and help us raise the remaining $2,180. Our friends in Africa and the endangered frogs they work so diligently to save are depending on you. All donors will be acknowledged in the thank you section of the SAVE THE FROGS! Ghana webpage (though you have the option to donate anonymously).
Thank you for donating to SAVE THE FROGS! Ghana and helping to power Africa's environmental revolution!

##############################################
Frog Emergency #1: SAVE THE FROGS! Ghana no longer has an office

The university that provided SAVE THE FROGS! Ghana a free office for the past three years (KNUST) no longer has available space because the university is transforming the former office into a new classroom. Without our help, SAVE THE FROGS! Ghana staff and volunteers will be forced to work in loud, hot, crowded internet cafes with poor internet service. We need to raise $1,000 for the new SAVE THE FROGS! Ghana office. Can you please chip in? We've created a dedicated SAVE THE FROGS! Ghana donation page to track our fundraising progress. This brand new page securely processes your tax-deductible donation and all money gets directed to SAVE THE FROGS! Ghana.

Please donate and help us SAVE GHANA'S FROGS!

SAVE THE FROGS! Ghana Executive Director Gilbert Adum and a crew of young environmentalists restoring habitat for the critically endangered Giant Squeaker Frogs.

##############################################
Frog-Emergency #2: SAVE THE FROGS! Ghana's two employees have not been paid in three months

Neither of SAVE THE FROGS! Ghana's two staff members (Gilbert Adum & Sandra Oqusu-Gyamfi) have received paychecks in nearly three months. I am sure you can imagine that living in Africa is not easy. Add raising a family and no paycheck to the mix and that is problematic. Without salaries, Gilbert & Sandra will have to find alternative employment and will not be able to devote much time to saving frogs. Please help us raise $1,680 to pay Sandra & Gilbert for the three summer months they have worked and ensure they can continue spreading environmental awareness across West Africa.

Please place your tax-deductible contribution at www.ghana.causevox.com

Save the Frogs Part 5

A note from STF! Ghana Executive Director Gilbert Adum

"Kerry, We have just been made aware that the university's room we currently occupy as office will be taken away from us by 15th August. The university authorities are turning the place into a lecture room. We would be grateful if you can send us at least US$1,000 to buy office furniture (chairs, tables, cupboard/safe) and fans for the office, which we have already rented. I have gone without salary for the past few months but this is not as important as getting a place of work."

Gilbert Adum recently coordinated the planting of 2,000 native seedlings in degraded Giant Squeaker Frog habitat.

##############################################
Saving Ghana's Giant Squeaker Frog through education and habitat restoration

SAVE THE FROGS! Ghana recently held amphibian conservation workshops at the University College of Agriculture and Environmental Studies (UCAE and the University for Development Studies (UD to build the capacity of 350 students in the protection of the critically endangered Giant Squeaker Frogs and other vanishing amphibians. We also actively involved five students from Ghana's premier science university (KNUST) in our Giant Squeaker Frog habitat restoration project: through hands-on field experience we exposed them to the rare chance of seeing the Giant Squeaker Frog and assessing its conservation challenges, while supervising the students' field projects. The trainees were taught practical techniques to survey and identify amphibian species, such as frog calls and the correct procedure in handling the animals. We held talks with top management of Ghana's Forestry Commission and local authorities to draft a tree planting program. We removed non-native weeds and planted 2,000 . We believe local school children are the future leaders of the Giant Squeaker Frog's environmental movement. Thus, we made outreaches to three nearby schools (the Sefwi Wiawso Senior High School and Yawkrom Primary and Junior High Schools). We educated approximately 3,000 school children and teachers through presentations on the plight of Ghana's amphibians, especially the Giant Squeaker Frog.

##############################################
Gaining support from the village chiefs and elders

SAVE THE FROGS! Ghana Program Coordinator Sandra Owusu-Gyamfi recently met with the chiefs and elders of the Sui Forest Reserve area. We gained their support for our efforts, and then removed weeds and planted 2,000 trees to improve habitat for the critically endangered Giant Squeaker Frogs (Arthroleptis krokosua).

SAVE THE FROGS! GHANA talks on TV about the threats to the Atewa Forest

SAVE THE FROGS! Ghana Executive Director Gilbert Adum and Jacqueline Kumadoh of A Rocha Ghana were featured live on Ghana’s TV3 New Day about the need to protect the Atewa Forest from mining. Gilbert and Jacqueline are representing the Coalition of NGOs Against Mining in Atewa (CONAMA). The TV program one way CONAMA members are pressuring the Ghanaian government to rescind its decision to allow mining in the Atewa Forest. Among other issues, Gilbert and Jacqueline highlighted the importance of the Atewa Forest for the preservation of the headwaters of the Densu, Ayensu and Birim rivers that supply water to more than one fifth of Ghana’s population. Unfortunately, Ghana’s water bodies have become recent targets for mining activities leading to their pollution with cyanide and mercury. The forest is home to the critically endangered Togo Slippery Frog (Conraua derooi).

The SAVE THE FROGS! UCAES Chapter has been working hard to protect the Atewa Forest, Ghana's most biologically diverse - and threatened - region.

Holly, check out the child agencies and any lawyers who do pro bono work.Sometimes, they will take on cases for principle or for publicity; no money. Check with family doctor, religious leader, counselors or even teachers for possible referrals. Do this before the miserable sperm donor decides to fight for custody or just to hurt your daughter. If he does, you will be prepared to move. God bless you and yours.
