Harry Reid Declines To Bring A Vote on Obama's Cliff Plan
1 year ago

If the President’s proposal was made in good faith, Democrats should be eager to vote for it. So I’m surprised the Majority Leader just declined the chance for them to support it with their votes. I guess we’re left to conclude that it couldn’t even pass by a bare majority of votes, and that they’d rather take the country off the cliff than actually work out a good-faith agreement that reflects tough choices on both sides. … I think folks should know who actually wants to raise taxes on family farmers and manufacturers, and who thinks we can solve our fiscal problems without doing anything serious to our real long term liabilities. Democrats are so focused on the politics of this debate they seem to forget there’s a cost. They’re feeling so good about the election, they’ve forgotten they’ve got a duty to govern. A lot of people are going to suffer a lot if we go off this cliff. That’s why we assumed Democrats wanted to avoid it. We thought it was the perfect opportunity to do something together. Apparently we were wrong.

And Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid’s response to this reasonable request? How dare these Republicans ask us to vote on a bill carefully designed and touted by our party leader — it’s a stunt, I say! A stunt!

“I reserve the right to object. I just a minute ago moved to the Russia trade bill,” said Reid. “The purpose of moving to this bill is to protect American jobs. If we don’t do this legislation, we’ll lose American jobs for sure and put American companies in even worse shape than they are with Chinese and European companies. So the question is really this: are we going to get serious here and legislate or is this more of the obstruction we felt so much during this last Congress?

“The answer to that is really obvious. The answer is yes. Or are we going to continue the sort of political stunts that the Republican Leader is trying to pull today, now?”

Okay, sure: Let’s go ahead and accept Mr. Reid’s language that this is a Republican “stunt,” but it being a “stunt” isn’t why Mr. Reid objects to it — the real problem is that a vote on President Obama’s plan would expose exactly what’s really going on here. The White House insists that President Obama’s plan — to hike up all kinds of taxes and virtually eliminate the debt ceiling — is a substantive, credible, good-faith proposal, yet plenty of Democrats are conspicuously hanging back from endorsing it. Could it be that the White House really doesn’t care about compromise, avoiding the pain of the fiscal cliff, or reducing the deficit, but is actually just single-mindedly committed to their entirely reckless goal of merely hiking taxes on the wealthiest Americans — a plan that even most Congressional Democrats wouldn’t vote for?

…Oh, hey, check that out — they just admitted as much.

I am so tired of all of these old, hackneyed players who are adept at being big liars and phonies and the American people keep voting for the same old.  It is futile to protest; read some of the posts from liberals on Care2 and you realize how stupid these people really are and I am not saying this as a person who sits outside and judges.

Analyzing their posts and their insipid arguments is absolutely maddening.  They have no common sense, they obviously never read and you wonder about some of these people who profess to be teachers and they spend all their time on care2.  God Help the Children that they are suppossed to be teaching!!!

Sheila, first do not believe everything you read on Care 2 as I doubt that many are teachers at all.  You said it in the first place, they don't have the time and would not be interested either.

Diane, I suspect that they answer was just stated, they know they can't get enough votes so that is why they won't bring it to vote.  They all know thiat it won't work.  They are afraid that if they were to pass it and it fails (which the are more than sure it will) they will be in sad shape. That is true but what they don't see is that if they do nothing it will be worse for them as they

are to get the job done.

Linda:  I don't think anyone of them want their fingerprints on the real deal which is the socialization of America and Obama will deliver this package.  They won't vote on it as the democrats would own the socialization of America and they know in time that Americans will doubt, question or may even revolt.  This would be the kiss of death for the demagouge party so they are not going to vote on this fiscal calamity because it ushers in one program:

the socialization of America as George soros planned for years.

There was way too much information outed to the public about the mystery man Soros and it made all of them extremely uncomfortable.

Facts are facts here; one would have to be a member of the the 3 blind monkeys not to get it and many people want to try this European socialist government.

Even Mitt Romney publically outed Obama for this goal; was anyone listening????

Mitt Romney made case of Socialization of America Europe style and Obama and Clinton fought back with a good rebuttal ....

Where were the other republicans in this fight???

The demagogues powered up and used the retaliation argument of austerity being a downer and not productive.

It appears that Mitt Romney made this case for years and no one backed him up.  It is hard to stand alone and take the fight when the bullies gang up on you and the MSM sides with them hook, line and sinker!

Sheila, we are in a dead zone right now, I fear.    The MSM is running all over us and we need to build a better mousetrap.   So far, we haven't.    When Tara Jane made the suggestion that Michelle would run in 2016 I felt sick to my stomach.   What saved me is that I know the US isn't anywhere near electing a woman president.

Diane, I agree with that one and that.  No matter what they say, the liberals know that Obama has been a mistake and so they are not ready to experiment further at this time. It is also why Romney did not chose a woman as his running mate; they realized that we just are not ready.

Hillary won't run; I believe that she means it when she says she is through with that chapter.  She knows that the Party bailed on her and she is not going to forget or forgive that.  I also feel that Bill was forced into endorsing and working for Obama; he didn't get over his dislike, he was forced to comply.

One piece of great news today:  Sen. Jim DeMint will become president of Heritage Foundation and he aims to teach all Americans about conservatism, individualism and the importance of these principles in building our life and our country.

This made my day!   I think of Jim DeMint as a very humble man of great humility.  I see him as another Abraham Lincoln.   Pres. Lincoln was one of the greatest Republicans that ever lived; don't ever forget that please.

A link from Alan West on Abraham Lincoln so people here NEVER doubt Lincoln's greatness and his importance to the Republican party and to these United States of America!!!
