US military intervention in Syria can lead to WWIII: Analyst

Any US military intervention in Syria will merely exacerbate the crisis in the Arab country and put the globe on the brink of another world war, a political analyst tells Press TV.

“US military involvement [in Syria] obviously would not resolve the crisis. It would just make it worse as always happens when the US military gets involved in parts of the world where it has no business being,” said Kevin Barrett in a Saturday interview with Press TV.

“This is a dangerous move because we’re really on the edge of a potential World War III in Syria. The region is being destabilized more and more at every moment,” he pointed out.

On Friday, US Defense Secretary Chuck Hagel said that the Pentagon was positioning military forces as part of “contingency options” provided to US President Barack Obama regarding Syria.

Hagel’s remarks have been interpreted as a tacit suggestion that the US may be preparing for a military attack on Syria.

Also on Friday, some American military officials said that Washington was considering military options against Syria over the allegations of chemical weapons use by the Syrian government.

Barrett, noted that pressures by the hard-line Israeli lobby are also behind such hawkish US posturing.

On Wednesday, the militants operating in Syria claimed that around 1,300 people were killed in a government chemical attack on militant strongholds in the Damascus suburbs of Ain Tarma, Zamalka and Jobar.

But the Syrian Army strongly rejected any role in the chemical attack, saying the accusations were fabricated to distract a visiting team of the UN chemical weapons experts and to cover up militants’ losses.

The Syrian government later announced that the chemical attack had actually been carried out by the militants themselves as a false flag operation.

The announcement by Syria echoed earlier declarations by Russia, which said it had “new evidence that the chemical attack in the Damascus suburbs were of a provocative nature. Iran has also said, There are documents [showing] terrorist groups are behind this attack.

Syria has been gripped by deadly unrest since 2011.

A very large number of the militants operating inside Syria are reportedly foreign nationals.

According to reports, the West and its regional allies – especially Qatar, Saudi Arabia, and Turkey – are supporting the militants inside Syria.

Please read this article as there is so much misinformation out there and the war hawks are pressing for another major war.

Syria is denying chemical attacks on their people and Assad says it is a false flag.

Why are McCain and graham pushing for US intervention so fast?

This is a very delicate balancing act, unfortuately, we have a president with NO experience and his "Leading from behind" is a disaster. His choices of international advisors are dubious at best. Susan Rice and Samantha Powers are not credible.

You may hate John Kerry but he is better than those two as is Hagel.

I know this is a dangerous game and there are far too many Al Quaeda operatives who pledge Jihad operating in Syria still. Remember the cannabalism problems!

Dear God, please give these men some help in their decision making and that includes Russia as well!

Sheila, Israel has confirmation that chemical weapons were used, the UN observers are now on the ground and they have confirmed it, too.  So that is real.

Now, what to do about it is another issue altogether but as I have said before, we do know that WWIII will take place in the Middle East and Russia will definitely be a force "from the North" that we will fight against, or at least the Allies will fight against.

So, will Syria start this?  Hard to say, but I do think that it is not that far off that it will happen and we should be prepared.

Good information and article, Sheila.

Interesting -- So Obama will now have his WMD's.    Shades of Bush!   Now we, conservatives, libertarians, Republicans, etc. can post about how there WERE NO WMD's and Obama pushed us into a phony war!  We can also emote and say - Obama lied - people died.  Personally I think we need to stay out of it and let Russia take care of the problem.

No more wars!  That should be our motto.

And Tara Jane, don't forget we can 1) accuse Joe Biden of trying to further his former law practice by representing all the Syrian's that are taken as prisoner's of war to feather the nest of his cronies in the practice and then 2) we can blame everything for the next 8 years on Obama/Biden.

Won't that be fun.  And we can even threaten to have them tried as war criminals, too.

The WMD's in Iraq are being found in Syria.....I will always support George W. Bush and his lovely and beautiful wife, one of our finest First Ladys, Laura Bush.    God Bless his soul.

Wonder if Obama will check with Congress before he goes to war!  I doubt it.  He usually does whatever his little teeny heart tells him to do.  And just what are we going to fight with.  Between Obama and Clinton before him they have whittled the armed forces down so low we would have to fight with ball bats.

Linda I am already blaming Obama for his almost 5 years - another 3 will be easy.  I say NO MORE WARS unless we are planning to win one for a change.  But, basically, I think we should stay well away from any interference in anything middle east!  Let them solve their own problems.

Diane - as this starts to unfold, I wonder what is going through the mind of Bush?

Tara Jane, I suspect G. W. and G. H. W. and sitting there lauging their heads off and taking bets on who he will blame for this one.

The Middle East continues to be a boiling pot and we Americans should have learned by now that no matter what we do it will not be enough to stop the fighting.  It has gone on for centuries and this recent use of chemicals weapons is just that - recent.

It is truly sad that good people everywhere who don't deserve this unrest, killing, etc. will suffer because of the power greedy few, but that is how it has been and will continue.  Islam everywhere is a government as well as a religion that rules the governments.

Obama is lighting a fire keg if he intervenes.  Tara you are right.  No more going to war especially in Syria.  It serves no purpose.
