Jesus said, “… the ruler of this world approaches; He has no power over me.” Our Lord declared absolute authority over Satan and He conveys the same absolute authority to us as disciples – a release of power in His Name, through the work of His Spirit.
Jesus also said the world does not recognize, and is not even looking for, the Spirit of God, but a disciple bases everything on the Spirit’s work of leadership into all truth: “He will teach you everything and will remind you of everything I have told you.”
Knowing we have authority in order to recognize and accept that authority is critical: True authority is foundational to decisive leadership. However, authority can also be used destructively, overriding everything and everyone and presuming superiority without humility; obviously that use of authority is not what we need.
Observers of Jesus’ ministry knew His works and words were with authority—sometimes offensive to the mind but consistently revealing the heart. We have that same authority: “Anyone who believes in me will do the same works I have done and even greater works…” Hallelujah!
