“Achsah {She Got What She Came For!}”

by sysministriesinc

Joshua 15:13-19, “Joshua gave Caleb son of Jephunneh a section among the people of Judah, according to God’s command. He gave him Kiriath Arba, that is, Hebron. Arba was the ancestor of Anak. Caleb drove out three Anakim from Hebron: Sheshai, Ahiman, and Talmai, all descendants of Anak. He marched up from there against the people of Debir. Debir used to be called Kiriath Sepher. Caleb said, “Whoever attacks Kiriath Sepher and takes it, I’ll give my daughter Acsah to him as his wife.” Othniel son of Kenaz, Caleb’s brother, took it; so Caleb gave him his daughter Acsah as his wife. When she arrived she got him to ask for farmland from her father. As she dismounted from her donkey Caleb asked her, “What would you like?” She said, “Give me a marriage gift. You’ve given me desert land; Now give me pools of water!” And he gave her the upper and the lower pools.” (MSG)
Achsah, Caleb’s daughter, appeared on the scene when her father offered a marriage between her and whomever was able to conquer the town Kirjath Sepher. The primary interest for everyone at that time was the land. Everything depended on it – their worship, home, food, financial and political security, and the ability to raise a family.
Since it was the custom of the day for parents to arrange marriages, the offer Caleb made was not unusual.
Caleb’s nephew Othniel accepted the challenge, took the Canaanite town, and won both Achsah and the portion of land promised.
Yet Achsah knew their land would only be productive with a water source. Seeing the solution in the nearby springs, Achsah discussed the situation with her husband and convinced him that they needed to approach her father for help. Her approach to her father for a blessing was likely a request for a wedding present and was consistent with the blessings for weddings and families:Deuteronomy 28:1-14, “If you listen obediently to the Voice of God, your God, and heartily obey all his commandments that I command you today, God, your God, will place you on high, high above all the nations of the world. All these blessings will come down on you and spread out beyond you because you have responded to the Voice of God, your God: God’s blessing inside the city, God’s blessing in the country; God’s blessing on your children, the crops of your land, the young of your livestock, the calves of your herds, the lambs of your flocks. God’s blessing on your basket and bread bowl; God’s blessing in your coming in, God’s blessing in your going out. God will defeat your enemies who attack you. They’ll come at you on one road and run away on seven roads. Godwill order a blessing on your barns and workplaces; he’ll bless you in the land that God, your God, is giving you. God will form you as a people holy to him, just as he promised you, if you keep the commandments of God, our God, and live the way he has shown you. All the peoples on Earth will see you living under the Name of God and hold you in respectful awe. God will lavish you with good things: children from your womb, offspring from your animals, and crops from your land, the land that God promised your ancestors that he would give you. God will throw open the doors of his sky vaults and pour rain on your land on schedule and bless the work you take in hand. You will lend to many nations but you yourself won’t have to take out a loan. God will make

God will throw open the doors of his sky vaults and pour rain on your land on schedule and bless the work you take in hand. You will lend to many nations but you yourself won’t have to take out a loan. God will make you the head, not the tail; you’ll always be the top dog, never the bottom dog, as you obediently listen to and diligently keep the commands of God, your God, that I am commanding you today. Don’t swerve an inch to the right or left from the words that I command you today by going off following and worshiping other gods.” MSG.
Achsah showed interest and involvement in her inheritance, her marriage, and her future.
She was not greedy, but neither was she hesitant to pursue what was needed just as the industrious woman pictured in Proverbs 31:26-27, 31, “She opens her mouth in skillful and godly Wisdom, and on her tongue is the law of kindness [giving counsel and instruction]. She looks well to how things go in her household, and the bread of idleness (gossip, discontent, and self-pity) she will not eat….Give her of the fruit of her hands, and let her own works praise her in the gates [of the city]!” (AMP)
Women of God, like Achsah, it is Vital that we look well to the concerns of our household. And not just look at them, but Actively Do Something About Them!
Achsah, didn’t just sit idly by the wayside, she Purposely and Deliberately Initiated a Blessing For Her Family! No murmuring, complaining, blaming, pointing fingers, or settling! Achsah, Involved Herself In the Change for the Better for Her Family, Finances and Future!
Sisters, We Need To Do the Very Same! Sit down and strategize, how are we going to get out of debt, how are we going to pay off this mortgage, car note, and tuition, how are we going to send our children to college, etc…Don’t Sit Down and Wait, Get Up and Do Something!
“Nothing Changes Until Something Moves” and that something is YOU!
If your children are not where they should be or your marriage is not at its optimal, Do Something! If there’s a problem with your job, career, business, church, ministry, money or health, Do Something!
Today, I Challenge You Sisters, To Actively Do Something To Make Your Household Better!
Achsah, could’ve been happy to receive the blessing of land, but if there’s no water, what good is a dry land that will produce nothing? She was smart enough to Participate In Her Blessing, Miracle and Increase, You Need to Do the Same Thing! Refuse to Settle! There’s More For You and Your Household, So Do What You Have to Do To Go and Get It! It’s Available and Waiting For You!
Achsah’s father Caleb didn’t come seeking to give her an added bonus, she went to dad and took her husband with her! Likewise, your Father is waiting for you to bring the two key people in your household to Him so He can grant your request! If your single, take YOU! But Don’t Wait and Don't Settle!
At a time when women should’ve remained silent while the men controlled such matters, Achsah Opened Her Mouth!
Listen: There’s a time for silence and a time for speech, and when there’s a need for your household, silence is not the road to travel! So, Women, Open Your Mouth and Make Your Request Known!
Like Achsah’s father, your Father is waiting to ask you: “What would you like?” and when you tell him, the next response will be “And he gave her…”
Ladies, Open Your Mouth! Make Your Request and Don’t Move Until You Receive It!
And What’s Even Better Is Achsah Didn’t Ask For a Small Thing, Nor Did She Ask For A Single Thing: She said, “Now give me pools of water!” And he gave her the upper and the lower pools.”
Sisters, Go Big Or Go Home!
Her father granted her request and she received a blessing that covered the upper and lower pools! Girlfriends, it’s time you asked for a “From the Crown of My Head to the Soles of My Feet”Blessing!
Don’t be timid, shy, hesitant, nervous, doubtful or faint of heart! Is there anything too hard for your God? NOPE! Absolutely NOTHING Is Impossible With Him! So Take Him the Biggest Request You Have and Enj
