One Of My Favorite Japanese Anime Series March 03, 2005 10:21 AM

While its anime style is pretty standard (nicely done but not really anything new), I found the story and the interplay of the characters to be a real accomplishment. Not to mention that between the two movies, this series has two complete different endings, so you can pick which one you prefer, lol.

Any other NGE fans out there?

DavidaNeon Genesis Evangelion

At the turn of the millennium the inhabitants of Earth are nearly completely wiped out by a mysterious supposed meteorite strike on Antarctica. Roughly half the population dies as a direct result of the strike, and the rest are left to struggle for survival amidst the rising savage seas due to melting of the polar ice caps.

Now the year is 2015. As the remnants of the human race cower in subterranean cities, a deadly war is being waged for what is left of the planet, and for what lies there within. On one side are the mysterious alien beings known only as the Angels, on the other, the special agency NERV and mankind's last hope for survival; the awe-inspiring Evangelions.

Yet amongst the ongoing devastation, few weary individuals at NERV struggle to uncover and piece together the agency's long buried secrets and hidden agendas along with the mysteries surrounding the arrival of the Angels. Why was the Earth struck fifteen years ago? A mere simple unfortunate act of nature, or perhaps an act of vengeance instigated by beings more powerful than man. Why did NERV classify the Angel responsible for the first attack on Tokyo-3 as the third, not the first? And just why are the only qualified Eva pilots that of children born exactly nine months after the second impact that massacred over half the human race?

The return of GAINAX

Despite a four year exile from the world of Anime, the crew at studio GAINAX, creators of the acclaimed Gunbuster series, made their explosive much welcomed return to the realm of Anime with this hit 26 episode long TV series. Such was the success of the series that two re-edits of the final two episodes were also released; 'Death and Rebirth' and 'End of Evangelion', along with the spin-off Manga.

All 26 episodes from the series can be purchased from the distributor A.D. Vision, both in the USA and the UK, directly. All episodes are currently on release in both dubbed and subtitled formats.

More on cowboy bebop March 07, 2005 2:27 PM

These are the stories of Spike, Jet, Faye, Ed, and Ein; the bounty hunters onboard the old fishing ship, "Bebop." They struggle to make a living in a world full of criminals.

In the original Japanese television run in the spring of 1998, only twelve of the twenty-six sessions were aired weekly on Fridays due to violent content. An extra session was created to complete a full thirteen episode season.

Following a promotional video showcasing the making of the show, unaired sessions were released on video.

Then, in the late fall through the winter of 1998-99, all of the sessions were aired weekly on the satellite station, WOWOW.

On September 2, 2001, the show made its American television debut on Cartoon Network's Adult Swim programming block. Minor edits were made to suit American Television standards.

There is also a movie that came out later.

Let's see...I think my all time favorite would have to be Gundam Wing or maybe Sailor Moon.

My most recent favorites are Gravitation, and Tenchi Muyo.

In the manga, Fruits Basket is definitely very good, as is Juvenile Orion, Descendants of Darkness, and CardCaptor Sakura.

at the moment, my favorite (well among those that I can get on tv) are Naruto, Ghost in the Shell and Gundam Seeds.

Naruto is an interesting story of a boy whose body holds an evil spirit that was captured by the villagers when he was still a baby (the nine-tails fox)...
Strangely enough, Naruto is nothing but a little bit funny, light-headed with a strong determination to become the greatest hokage (leader of the ninjas) while definitely lacking the concentration and will to work in order to achieve it.  He teams up with Sasuke who works and trains hard which makes Naruto very jealous of him and Sakura who's smart and completely into Sasuke while Naruto quite likes her.

They go through a perilous adventure in which they have to fight a rogue ninja (with the help of their ninja master, Kakashi) and save a village from a dangerous gangster and it seems that the experience will give Naruto a greater willingness to work hard and study but as soon as they get back to the village, the old bragging, mischievous Naruto is back.  It's to wonder how and when the skills he possesses because he holds the spirit of the nine-tails fox will show up...

Anyway, now they are about to try and pass their chunin exams (the second ninja level, the first one is genin which they passed nearly at the beginning).  So i'll keep you update as it goes......

Cheers!

M.
