Hello Everybody!

It's been a busy week for Children's Hope and Voice. I wanted to touch base with you and get you updated on a few happenings.

1) If you haven't already, please come join our sister site "Celebrate Kids" which focuses on child welfare issues.  Here are some threads of interest, just a sample of what "Celebrate Kids" has to offer:

ADVOCACY THREADS:

Trayvon Martin, shooting victim in Florida

9 year old stuffed in duffel bag by teacher's aide

9 yr old boy allegedly tasered by Ohio police

MYSTERIOUS ILLNESSES AT VARIOUS HIGH SCHOOLS

UPLIFTING, HOPEFUL, HELPFUL THREADS:

WHAT KIDS ARE DOING RIGHT...*Spring 2012

ADVOCACY WORKS / SUCCESS STORIES

ANIMAL THERAPY / BENEFITS OF A PET FOR CHILDREN

ENCOURAGEMENT and LAUGHTER

EDUCATIONAL IDEAS & RESOURCES

OTHER

HOMELESSNESS IN AMERICA

EDUCATION IN AMERICA

ANTI-BULLYING CAMPAIGNS

ZERO TOLERANCE

ALL ABOUT TEENS

COLLEGE BOUND

SCHOOL WATCH LIST

2) Unfortunately, the boy who inspired the formation of Children's Hope and Voice is in need of current advocacy. A probation officer and Prosecutor Michael Whiting is attempting to violate this child's probation which stands to effect the plea deal the boy signed just after turning 9 years old in Feb 2009. The boy has been in an inpatient treatment center. The petition for revocation of his probation cites specific alleged behaviors. I have created a current advocacy thread for this boy. He is especially dear and near to my heart and I would encourage and appreciate your advocacy efforts for this particular child. Here's the thread:

CRR, St. Johns, AZ (CURRENT ADVOCACY)

I hope you all have a wonderful weekend. Roll up your sleeves. We're going to be busy with trying to make a positive difference in these children's lives.

Thank you for all you are doing to change the life of a child for the better.

Sincerely,

Tonya Meadows

Just Detention International - Rape is not part of the penalty

Why do you care? Tell us why ending sexual assault behind bars matters to you. Send your message.

Please visit:

http://us4.campaign-archive1.com/?u=168b7b2cc55e210a54b212a96&id=dceba7ad2a&e=6ed9a41660

April is Sexual Assault Awareness Month, and this year we are honoring the occasion by asking you, our supporters, to tell us why you care about stopping prisoner rape -- and helping survivors heal. We’ll share your messages on our website and we’ll also send them to survivors who are behind bars. Your words could help inspire survivors, who so often feel isolated and ashamed, and they could also inspire other people like you to make a difference.

Every day, JDI hears from prisoner rape survivors who believe that they have been forgotten. For many, simply knowing that people on the outside care about what happens to them can make a huge difference. Just ask Troy. Beginning at the age of 12, Troy endured repeated sexual violence in detention. His pain was made worse by the fact that he had no one to turn to for help. When Sister Mary Sean, a member of a local church, reached out to Troy, his life was transformed. Watch a short video of Troy telling his story at http://www.justdetention.org/en/whyyoucare-troy.aspx.

Prisoner rape is a global human rights crisis; it must not be shrouded in silence. During this Sexual Assault Awareness Month, please take a moment to speak up about why you believe we must end this violence, once and for all.

Sincerely,
Lovisa Stannow, Just Detention International
