anonymous hi all :) April 23, 2011 4:51 AM

Hiya to hosts and members

I'm Alice from Scotland and although I have been a member for some time I have not been very active, too swamped with other sites which I have now cancelled.

Although this is a US site it's nice to see that we can post things concerning a little closer to home. I hope to meet like minded people and make friends

I am concerned about so many things happening in the world today and hope that by sharing and caring that we can make a difference.

Hi Catherine, welcome to the group, I'm in the north east, we had the flooding last year this time, though luckily apart from my driveway, I was OK.  I hope it hasn't affected you too badly.
Check out the freecycle groups online, they are good for flood victims, the local Morpeth group have only just offered up it's donations to all since the flood victims have all they want now, but they are also very good for people setting up for the first time, or anew.

CARE2 UK - HOW INSPIRATIONAL ! November 22, 2009 5:09 PM

Hi everyone, I'm Cee and live in The the North West of England, towards Scotland - (We're pretty flooded out right now!) Saw this group, and of course it gave me hope that there'd be a sight like this but in the U.K. You all seem really lovely, interesting people, and i'm looking foward to getting to know you all better. From what i see, yes it's great to meet so many like-minded people all in the same group There are SO many ways that we can all help, simply by giving support and advice, and my big issues are to help WOMEN and CHILDREN who face living in violent enviroments, who find the courage to get out, get their children out and get themselves to a place of safety. Once they've done that, and their situation has calmed down a little, maybe we could be here to offer them that support to STAY strong., and get stronger each day. I was married to my children's father, who turned violent during my first pregnancy and remained that way until i found the courage to get out of the situation. That was after my second child was born - both my children were both premature baby's, premature by three months (due to the violence). He damaged me so badly, both physically and emotionally that the scars have stayed with me to this day, but i've found COURAGE and find even more from, helping women and children in similar circumstances. VIOLENCE of ANY KIND to ANY HUMAN BEING is denying people of their basic HUMAN RIGHTS. We are ALL ENTITLED to those HUMAN RIGHTS ! It's good to see you all, and please drop by my profile ??, or e-mail me ? Let me know any of your ideas of how you think we could help? Or even just stop by for a chat ? All have a beautiful, happy week., and take it as easy. PEACE, and LOVE Cee

Hello everyone January 17, 2009 2:25 PM

Thank you Pearl for your kind invitation to CARE2 UK. I know there are many issues the U.S. and U.K. can work on together. It seems I already have more friends from the U.K and other places than the U.S. Wasn't intentional, just the way it worked out. But I can tell you one thing. You are some hard working dedicated people and I am honored that you invited me.

I am Sue and I live in Texas. I am involved in several groups:Warriors for the Voiceless, Elephant Lovers, Texas Pound Reform just to name a few.

What is it with viruses these days?  When I was a kid, the drs said they would clear up in 2-3 days, then it went up to approx 10days and now it's even longer.  If that wasn't enough the viruses themselves have worse symptoms, I have one right now which started as a sore throat a couple of days back and it hits me now with vertigo.  This is the 2nd time in 3 months I've been like this, the last time the Dr gave me tablets which made me feel worse, I'm just going to sit it out with echinacea this time round.

Hi Susan, welcome to the group and C2...Gary, thank you for your NW and you are welcome to the green star.

I have been pretty quiet in C2 over the last year due to several family problems, I belong to a family that pulls together and shares the load and when each individual family in our family gathering suffers problems of it's own at the same time it becomes very hard.  Added to that my old dog got progressively more sick this past year and just a few days back I had to help her pass over.  One problem is righting itself in my immediate family, unfortunately making it more diffucult for another (sounds cryptic, I know, lol) so I'm hoping for myself at least I will be more settled.

Hello Everyone nice to make your acquaintance...

Yep I'm new to the group and the Gay scene...wow what a mine field !...As you can see by my profile and sideways picture...I'm also really quite shy too and if it was'nt for this forum my communication with like minded people would be very limited indeed, for that I truely thank you..Exceptance and tolerence of persons of different alternative life styles is very important to me. Equal opportunity is of the utmost importance, we have come a long way unyet there is a ways to go....Love to you all....Gary Morris (Reading)

I'm here to post UK news/events/actions for animals. There are many important causes in UK, and however Care2 is dominated by US members, there are also people from UK who I hope care about animal rights.

greetings to hosts and members,

am new to this group; I´ve been a friend of the English language since my childhood , therefore  of the UK. I´d often travel to England, years ago. I had friends in Manchester. I don´t know how often I´ll particpate in discussions, as it´s certainly important to know a bit about what´s going on in England -maybe important, I don´t know-. I´ll see...One more word about me, I love Nature I have a special relation with, can´t live without humor, and this is not just words. I set my own lyrics to music on keyboard; Easy on the ear, things I´ve experienced myself or I picture some situation, so the like...Hope, I´ll post some time...Have a good weekend, every one !

Ouch Barbara, it's no fun being housebound, my step dad is bedbound, had been for two years now, he was just getting into using the computer before he had to take to his bed but has given it up now, all he seems to do is watch TV and sleep.

I rarely watch TV, so I don't know that programme at all, though I bet my kids do.

Hello, I am very new, only joined a few minutes ago! I also belong to Elderberries , being 83 (yuck) and to a couple of Genealogy groups as my main hobby is family history. I live in Hertfordshire on my own but am active in my local church and have lots of friends through that. I started a group here for people who watch Deal or No Deal but it hasn't taken off. I thought it might be interesting to compare the different versions in UK and USA. I have made lots of e friends through belonging to a Forum of DOND enthusiasts in UK. I am semi housebound now, no longer drive because of poor eyesight, so the computer and e friends I've made through it have been a lifeline. I look forward to making some more through this group.   [ send green star]

It's one of those areas some of us disagree on,  I do not see it as a castle, and don't think I ever will.  It was built and used as a fortified priory until it was surrendered by the priory's 19 catholic monks to Henry VIII in 1539, after which it was used as a military stronghold.

http://homepage.ntlworld.com/colin42/KingHenryVIII.htm

In England and Wales, King Henry VIII (1509 to 1547) claimed the right to become supreme authority over church and split with the Rome Catholic Church, he took control on the monastic life and, on the other, his need for money to fund his warfare and to cure the ever-mounting debt he had. In 1536, Parliament Act ordered all the monasteries valued less than £200 per annum or less, masking the financial motive behind a moral facade. August 1536 Henry sent out his officials under Cromwell control (who later lost his head) to visit the monasteries ostensibly to ensure that they followed royal instructions, but in reality to assess their wealth and report back to him.

The insurgents were suppressed as ruthlessly as the abbots who refused to suppressed their houses several dissenting monks were tortured and executed. Henry continued with his persecution of his religious opponents.

No worries, you're forgiven...I've looked at some of your photos...one thing I should point out, the ruins at Tynemouth is a priory not a castle, though when all that is left is a lot of rubble, thay all look the same, lol.

Have you been to the Roman fort at South Shields?  (It's free admission...or at least it was last time I went) There's one rebuilt at Wallsend, but I've not seen that one yet.  Depending on how long you are in Newcastle and your plans, you could get to both easily on the Metro.

I'll see if I can find some info tomorrow and post about it

Away with the fairies half the time I think.

I'm sure you'll appreciate internet security for us single ladies, this is an open group and I wouldn't recommend that anyone, male or female gives out their location.

I will go as far as to say that I can get to Scotland, Northumberland, Yorkshire, North and South Tyneside, Newcastle, Gateshead, Co Durham and Cumbria and Lancashire areas with little effort.  Technically I should be able to get to Sunderland, though it's been so long since I've been there, I'd probably get lost, and no doubt they have complicated one ways systems in operation.

Perhaps I  should be saying I`m stupid, cause when I joined the other day I didnt see this `introduce yourself` thread & I wrote to the host saying there was no `welcome thread` lol.  Mind you, I do find it more difficult to read the small print & that is why I post in bigger size text, so thats why I probably missed seeing it.   My excuse & I`m sticking to it.

Hi

I`m Rick in the U.S.    With not being in the U.K. perhaps I ought not to be here.    I post alot of news in the C2 network messages group, some of which includes UK news, so I ran a search to see if there were any UK groups which might benefit from it & I found this one.

A few days ago however I vowed to leave Care2, but being as I had nominated the Wolf Mountain Sanctuary for an Award I decided it would be better to at least keep my profile until the voting for that was over.

Today I came back making other news posts, whilst I had spotted a good News story on BBC about Greenland & DNA evidence about how it was warm there in the past.

Sarah, Pete, Paul and David, Hi and welcome...David, there's something about computers that make all of us dyxlexiwotsit, I have a similar thing with numbers, I know it as number blindness, I thought I was thick at school not being able to understand basic arithmetic.  It wasn't until long after leaving, my mother told me she had this and apparantly it tends to run in families.  Funnily enough it's quite common I found out my brother in law has it too.

Sarah, we are all kind of finding out feet here, so just jump in with whatever you think people may be interested in, particular from your neck of the woods.

Intro May 23, 2007 4:54 PM

Hi, Iam David from South Scotland. I have a special reason for being of Care2 as events in my life made me take stock and want to try to do something to improve human rights and to promote peace and toleration between people of divergent races, cultures and religion. I am also dislex...disslexic...daslezig...I a can't spell.  [ send green star]

I am sure we can keep this group alive with UK Issues.

There is enough of them

Take care, Paul.

Ooooooo, DNA from babies!  That is frightening.  Not boring at all Paul.... it's like something from science fiction!

Good Evening Paul, Andy and Pete.    Gonna say goodnight now as I have one tired little daughter needing to go to bed.

Hi everyone,

Nice to see this group starting to get lively.

I'm Paul Davis, I live in Surrey, do what I can for the voiceless.

Some may know me for the Tesco Turtles petition or for hosting Wild Thing !

Great to see a UK specific group, so much happening here that people are blind to and happy to let happen.

I see they will bring in a tracker device on your cars by 2010, is this for charging for using main roads, well yes but the big one will be that you can be fined for speeding multiple times every day without any human intervention, big money !

Taking DNA from babies to see if they may become a criminal, watch what happens when that child grows up, has a family and tries to get life insurance " Oh sorry your DNA shows you could be prone top **** disease the premiuim will be very high or we may not want to cover you at all.

Well I'd better stop before I bore you all, I could go on all night.

I will help all I can.

Take care, Paul.

Thanks Andie! May 20, 2007 1:27 AM

Although I've had numerous offers to join groups......I normally don't check them out....Due to the time I have online being rather limited ......& by checking them out you're automatically made a member!

& to me there's no point in being in  a group you haven't time to participate in!

but I DO feel it's neccessary to try to support anything specifically UK related..especially where animal welfare....or UK legislation is concerned!

I live in SW cornwall....& am cornish by birth,..so don't worry about your spelling versions Beth...if I were to spell in the cornish dialect we'd all be in trouble.... me included....lol!

I will do my best to pop in every few days....& will check out the other 2 uk based sites also..thanks again andie!

Hello, I'm Eliza from County Durham.  I very much enjoy being here at Care2 and find lots in common with my American, Canadian, etc. friends, but it's nice to be part of a U.K. group.  After all, it is the best country in the world.   I'm proud of the U.K. and passionate about animals, so I know that I'll be at home here.

Thank you Andy for the invite.

Hi Bev, Andy and Alf, welcome to the group....and you are right Andy, we need to make this group work, otherwise we will fade away into USdom, lol.

Don't worry Bev, you'll fit right in and in time lose your typing accent.

Hello May 17, 2007 2:15 PM

Hi,
Just thought I'd post a quick intro here as the newest kid on the block. I'm Bev and I live in West Sussex. I just want to add that I am an import (originally from New Jersey) so you will likely notice that I, well, spell with an accent.

Be glad you don't have to hear me 'tawk'!

I hope to be able to contribute here and take part in some good, thought provoking discussions!

Bev

Lets try to make this one live May 17, 2007 2:10 PM

This is the third site I know with a Brit/UK focus. other 2 are:

En-Act UK: Environmental Action in the UK

and

UK Animal Helpers

Although I think the last one is starting to die, too bad it was very well intentioned. I think wot we should do is invite all our brit contacts to the group to really try to make a go of it. If you see a brit based member invite them along. Lets get enough of us togeather to be able to make a difference in the UK. If we can have enough active members it will make it easier to petition MPS etc. Lets do it!

Hey Chris May 17, 2007 9:42 AM

Hi, I live in the north east, near Newcastle upon Tyne, not quite a geordie, I was born and raised in south Shields, so that makes me a sand-dancer.

I have 3 kids, the eldest from my 1st marriage is married and has recently given me my 2rd grandaughter.  My two boys from my second marriage (I'm now a widow) are teenagers, hense the grey hairs and worry lines, lol.
