I am reading Death of a Stranger by Anne Perry.

At the moment, I'm reading the third book in the Detective John Cardinal series, by Giles Blunt. It's called Black Fly Season
Favorite Author?

What am I reading? I'm reading a classic by Agatha Christie: "They Do It With Mirrors". They're showing Miss Marple on TV each week, and I've been reading the books before the show. It is so much fun to see the differences.

My favorite author? So far, it's got to be Agatha Christie, but I haven't read a lot of different ones. There was another author who wrote medical based mysteries, he was good but I can't seem to remember his/her name.

Thank you for your post.

I had never heard of Ellis Peters, so I did a quick search.

I have posted a link for her books. I think I would enjoy her books.

....Mariannie and Bette Jo for the information on a new author.    So many books...so little time... The basic story about Brother Cadfael sounds interesting. My daughter's going to the library tomorrow!

Do you ever listen to books on tape/cd?  I love the Diane Mott Davidson ones on tape.  The woman who reads them is a scream to listen to.  She really makes all of the characters come to life.

I used to listen to alot of books back in the day when I had a long daily commute to work.  Now I listen to them when I'm flying for work.

Hi Melani:

What books of hers have you read? I have a very bad short term memory, but I know I've read a couple of things of hers a couple of years ago. I seem to have "good feelings" that I liked what I read. ....for not remembering the names.

MHC Books

Karen, I've read pretty much everything MHC has written with the exception of her short stories and her two most recent books - I wait until they come out in paperback - my book habit is too big to buy hardbacks.

Here's a link to a page with all of her books and summaries of them:

http://www.stopyourekillingme.com/Mary-Higgins-Clark.html

I read so much and have such a horrible memory that I have to write down the books that I've read.  I've been doing this since I was about 13.  I have TONS of spiral notebooks filled with books that I've read.  It's actually sort of scary.

BOOKS, BOOKS & BOOKS!

That's absolutely amazing! I would've never thought to keep track of anything when I was 13!

I went to that site and I think I'm in "love"! All the mysteries you could read for a long time. Between that and the audio books online, I'm in Heaven.

Well, off to go read.

A NEW BOOK TODAY

I stayed up all night last night because we had a big thunder and lightening storm and the electricity kept going out. It was great for reading a murder mystery! I finished the one I was reading and started Ellis Peters' "MONK'S HOOD".

Happy Memorial Day!

Keeping track

Well, my list-making tendencies came out early in life!  LOL!  Now they help me out because I don't remember what I have or haven't read anymore.  My one true sign of aging...a flagging memory.

Of course now I keep my lists on my palm zire rather than a spiral notebook.  It's easier to carry around.

I picked up a book by one of my favorite authors the other day - Marcia Muller.  I'm almost finished with it.  I am absolutely loving the book!

I'M FINISHED....

....with Ellis Peter's "Monks Hood". I have 5 other books now to choose from, but I just can't decide! I keep reading a few pages here, then a few there...oh dear...I think I've started reading the first chapter out of each of these books. Does anyone know how to speed read?

Hi there! I'm new to this group but just wanted to introduce myself/answer the question.

First -- the reason I joined this group is I just finished all the books of yet another author, so I'm once again looking for something to read.

As for my favorite author/what am I reading right now:

I have a couple of favorites, but Anne Perry is among the top. I love Charlotte Pitt -- also, I like the way Perry describes the scene, it's nice to have the novels set in that time period. Unfortunately I've read all her books (most of them twice).
While I like Sue Grafton, I stopped reading her because the plots started sounding alike to me.
I really like novels that have a bit of romance in addition to a good mystery and I really love series with the same characters/romance over several novels. (hence my love for Charlotte and Thomas)

I really enjoyed the begining part of Sue Henry's series, I really like Faye Kellerman (and the occasional Johnathan Kellerman). Marcia Muler is good, Susan Dunlap is enjoyable -- a more unique style. I recently read April Christofferson's new novel, Buffalo Medicine and enjoyed it. I enjoyed Ann Campbell's Wolf Tracks recently as well.

I've read all of Mary Higgins Clark's, all the classics such as Hammet and Chandler, and tried some of the "darker" novels such as Michael Connelly, but didn't like them as much.

Soo -- any good suggestions? Thanks a million

Oh yeah -- and you can't beat Sir Arthur Conan Doyle

Melani -- I can totally relate to the list making. I'm only 21 and I've already forgotten all the books I've read. Somewhere in highschool I started an excel file of the books I've read (when I remember to enter them). To date I've got about 1000 books in there and that doesn't even include books I forgot to record or before I started recording. Considering I started with Agatha Christie in 6th grade and had finished all of MHC by 8th grade (except the more recent ones) I'm sure there's a large chunk I forgot! LOL
