Thank you, Ginger, for suggesting I cross-post this idea. The founder of another Care2 group, Angels, is a primary trauma counselor in Austin, TX. They will be coordinating relief for at least 7,000 individuals displaced by Hurricane Katrina. In response to her call for help, I suggested having schoolkids write letters of support that could be distributed to kids who have lost their homes; that way, they may not feel so alone. She thought the idea was good, and I have several teachers here in the Sacramento area who are participating. If anyone on this list wants to help, I'll be happy to coordinate delivery. Ann indicated they also could use crayons, blank paper, and other "comfort items" for kids, e.g., stuffed animals. She also suggested pictures of classes with signs of support. If you have any questions please let me know at firstname.lastname@example.org. Thanks for your consideration.
