250 Miles per Gallon ? ? ? August 15, 2005 3:17 PM
Very interesting reading at http://www.cnn.com/2005/TECH/08/15/hybrid.tinkerers.ap/index.html
I don't agree with the 250 mpg figure when the plug-in electricity is produced by some other form of fuel. One could say "250 miles per gallon of gasoline and 12 pounds of coal" or so much hydro-energy or so much petroleum burned at the power plant. Indeed, full electric cars get infinite miles per gallon but that doesn't mean they run for free.
Even so, there is much to be said for the "today" technology that these gadgeteers are building while government and megabusiness are promising a hydrogen economy someday after they figure out how to corner that market.
