 Japan's Automakers Cloud Kyoto Celebration - ACTION February 17, 2005 12:47 PM

On February 16, the historic Kyoto Protocol to curb global warming around the world is official. Kyoto has demonstrated Japan’s environmental leadership, but Japanese automakers including Toyota, Honda, and Nissan are undermining its hard-earned reputation. The makers of eco-friendly vehicles such as the Prius and Civic Hybrid are tarnishing their green image and that of their country with a lawsuit to block California’s global warming regulations on automobiles—the most significant U.S. initiative to date on climate change. Contradictions between Nature and man are rampant in Japan. This is not a new phenomenon. Much like concrete rivers in the land that is supposed to celebrate Nature, "Green" companies lobbying against the Kyoto accords is par for the course unfortunately.  [ send green star]  [ accepted]

I had already taken this action, but I didn't think to post it here. I guess carmakers just suck. I may support hybrid cars and their owners, but people who don't own any cars should get medals or something for risking their lives on our dangerous roads for the sake of the environment we all share.  [ send green star]  [ accepted]

I will definitly look into that. It seems to me that so far since the Kyoto of treaty was created, every single economical power does it best to walk all over it. That sucks big time! I was so thrilled about the idea of buying a hybrid, but this whole thing makes me want to avoid cars altogether. Initially, Toyota was involved, and Honda wasn't. If Honda hadn't gotten involved, they would have had my business for sure. Oh, well. What I think we need now is an innovator to design a vastly better car and get these industry jerks scrambling to keep up. If any of you ever meet a potential car design prodigy, give him some encouragement.  [ send green star]  [ accepted]
