Assessing Shelter Dogs & Temperment Test February 23, 2007 6:40 AM

I'm posting this for anyone who may be new to rescuing, or may be considering a position with thie local shelter or Animal Services.  Even if you are employed in this field already, some of this information may be worth while reading for self improvement.

Temperament is the general attitude a dog displays towards people and other animals; it is the combined inherited and acquired physical and mental traits that influence the dog's behavior. Temperament testing evaluates an individual dog's temperament through a series of tests that measure traits including stability, confidence, shyness, friendliness, aggressiveness, protectiveness, prey instincts, play drive, and self-defense instincts, and ability to distinguish between threatening and nonthreatening situations.... YES; MY CHARITY USES SOME OF THESE TECHNEQUIES April 02, 2007 4:13 PM

NOT only do they help us find qualifying Animals for Animals HElping HUmans programs but they also help to place dgos that are ot qualifiers for our strict and high standard requirement test passing scores.

HOwever at the same time animlas that do not qualify for our progrms I cna recommend for specific families or single individuales baased upon the results of the testing procedures in puppies and in older animals as well.

   GREAT INFO

I recommend as a must read for all?

Thank you Wolfgram, I see you also believe the blue pin is a good idea. I suppose we could upgrade it to red, but only if it remains unposted to for a month or two.

If you find these links useful, please let us know!

Best, Eric
