Strengthened
with all might, according to his glorious power. --As ye have therefore
received Christ Jesus the Lord, [so] walk ye in him: rooted and built
up in him, and stablished in the faith, as ye have been taught,
abounding therein with thanksgiving.--Trees of righteousness, the
planting of the LORD, that he might be glorified.--Built upon the
foundation of the apostles and prophets, Jesus Christ himself being the
chief corner [stone]; in whom all the building fitly framed together
groweth unto an holy temple in the Lord: in whom ye also are builded
together for an habitation of God through the Spirit.
I commend
you to God, and to the word of his grace, which is able to build you
up, and to give you an inheritance among all them which are
sanctified.--Being filled with the fruits of righteousness, which are
by Jesus Christ, unto the glory and praise of God.
Fight the good fight of faith.--In nothing terrified by your adversaries.

God

Luke 15:1-7
Luke 15:2:And the Pharisees and
scribes murmured, saying, This man receiveth sinners, and
eateth with them.
The enemies of Jesus thought they had found a weakness
on which to build their case: He welcomed sinners and ate
with them.
But what if Jesus had not cared for sinners?
There would be no hope for any, for all have sinned: "As
it is written, There is none righteous, no, not one... For all
have sinned, and come short of the glory of God" (Romans 3:10, 23).
Commenting on this text, Dr. H. A. Ironside says: "Our
Lord Jesus Christ was always interested in sinners. He came
down from the glory of His Father's house to save sinners.
These legalists could not understand it. We are told here
that a great company of publicans and sinners drew near to
Jesus, but the self-righteous and haughty scribes and
Pharisees looked on with contempt, for they could not
comprehend why Jesus did not withdraw Himself from these
wretched and wicked people, and why He did not rather
seek out such respectable individuals as they thought
themselves to be. They murmured among themselves,
saying, 'This man receiveth sinners, and eateth with them.'
They did not know they were declaring a wonderful truth
when they said that. Jesus does receive sinners, and He takes
them into fellowship and communion with Himself. Thank
God, this has been true all through the centuries since. Is it
not wonderful grace that He receives all who will come, and
He delivers them from their sins?"
Do you think yourself too guilty to be saved?
Christ will receive you the moment you come to Him in faith.
will rest in the shadow of the Almighty. I will say of the Lord, "He is my refuge and my fortress, my God, in whom I trust." ( Psalms 91:1-2 * NIV )
Dear Friends, God has promised us; As a mother comforts her child, so will I comfort you. ( Isaiah 66:13 ) Therefore never doubt, instead put all of your trust in Him.
The following poem sums it up best. I hope that you will enjoy it. "I Know"
** I know He is the beginning, so why do I worry about the end? ** I know He is the creator, so why do I wonder who will destroy? ** I know He has forgiven me, so why can't I forgive myself? ** I know He is a healer, so why do I speak of sickness? ** I know He can do all things, so why do I say I can't? ** I know He will protect me, so why do I fear? ** I know He will supply all my needs, so why can't I wait? ** I know He is my strength and my salvation, so why do I feel weak? ** I know that everything and everyone has a season, so why when someone's season is over do I weep instead of rejoice? ** I know He is the right way, so why do I go the wrong way? ** I know He is the light, so why do I choose to walk in darkness? ** I know that whatever I ask of GOD, GOD will give me, so why am I scared to ask? ** I know tomorrow is not promised, so why do I put off for tomorrow what I can do today? ** I know that the truth shall make me free, so why do I continue to lie? ** I know He gives us revelation, knowledge and understanding, so why do I lean on my own understanding? ** I know I should live in the spirit as well as walk in the spirit, so why do I choose to live in the spirit but walk in the flesh? ** I know that when praises go up, blessings come down, so why do I refuse to praise Him? ** I know I am saved, so why do I refuse the word He has given me? ** I know He has a plan for me, so why am I rushing it because ** I am eager to do His will, when it is His time not my time?
Have a great day, Friends, and don't forget Church..

DEVOTIONAL THOUGHT: There are four types of people. There are those who are constantly complaining and grumbling. Have you met any of these folks? I mean, they can brighten up a room just by leaving it. Thats the lowest level. Then there are others who live lives of ingratitude. They dont complain, but they never thank God for His obvious blessings. Thats a little better, but not much better. Then there are people who thank God for obvious blessings. When something good happens, theyre grateful. Thats a better level. But the highest level is to be grateful for all things at all times. That is the secret of a happy and productive life.
ACTION POINT: Bow before the Lord and begin to think about difficult circumstances youre facing. Now, thank Him for each one.

God [is]
a Spirit: and they that worship him must worship [him] in spirit and in
truth.--We . . . have access by one Spirit unto the Father.
O my Father, if it be possible, let this cup pass from me: nevertheless not as I will, but as thou [wilt].
The
Spirit . . . helpeth our infirmities: for we know not what we should
pray for as we ought: but the Spirit maketh intercession for us with
groanings which cannot be uttered. And he that searcheth the hearts
knoweth what [is] the mind of the Spirit, because he maketh
intercession for the saints according to [the will of] God.--This is
the confidence that we have in him, that, if we ask any thing according
to his will, he heareth us. When he, the Spirit of truth, is come, he
will guide you into all truth.
Praying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit, and watching thereunto with all perseverance and supplication.
Believers
are set apart. The Greek word for church is ekclesiaek meaning out
of and clesia meaning called ones. While we live, work, and play in
human society, our allegiance and devotion is directed correctly toward
Jesus Christ instead of the ruler of this world, Satan.
Its important to know what our separation doesnt mean. First, the
church must not isolate itself. As Christians, we are to be like light
in our dark communities (Matt. 5:14).
Light reveals the safe way to go; without it, we feel cut off and
fearful. Second, believers cannot rely on their own efforts to overcome
the world. Following a list of spiritual dos and fleshly donts will
wear a person outand usually results in failure anyway. We are
victorious through faith in Jesus Christ. God takes the newly saved out
of Satans realm and places them in His own kingdom.
Although God and Christ have done the hard work, their followers
cannot continue to do what comes naturally. We must live in this world
without conforming to it. Instead, were to be transformed through the
renewing of our minds (Rom. 12:2).
If our mind is still camped in the world order, our body cannot help
but follow itthen we end up dirtied by corrupt choices, and our
relationships and testimony suffer.
Learn what it means to be set apart. Others should notice a
difference in our character and conduct when comparing us to the rest
of the world. What they ought to see are biblical principles at work.
But we can look like kingdom dwellers only when we are training our
minds to think like the King.
- "For with Thee is the fountain of life: in Thy light shall we see light."
DEVOTIONAL THOUGHT: Jesus had a life that the grave could not keep. While He carried your sins to the grave and left them there, Jesus came out of that grave living, risen, and victorious! When Jesus rose, you rose with Him. Christians are not just nice people, they are new creatures. We have the same power that raised Jesus Christ from the dead. We have come out of the grave of the old life. Our old master has no more hold on us. The old debt has no more penalty that we have to pay. When Jesus came out of that grave, we came out with Him, and we have been raised to walk in newness of life.
ACTION POINT: Are you walking around in the grave clothes of your old life? Shed them, my friend! Jesus came to give you new life! Believe that you are now a new creation in Christ!

Satisfy us in the morning with your unfailing love, November 19, 2009 5:19 AM

Dear Friend, God is a friend and companion for those who love and obey His Word. For as king David said; Your word is a lamp to my fee and a light for my path. ( Psalms 119:105 )
After all it is written; The Lord himself goes before you and will be with you; He will never leave you nor forsake you. So why not spend a little time in prayer with God each and every day. You will find Him to be your very best Friend indeed! Amen.
Now I would now like to share a poem with you, Michael. It is titled..... "My Unseen Guest"
God walks the trail with me each day, He is my Friend, My Guide However long or steep the road, He's ever by my side.
He sits with me in evening's hush; We speak, we laugh, we pray, And my heart sings a joyful song... He's never far away.
And through each dark and lonely night, He's guarding from above. In perfect peace, I rest secure In His eternal love. Poet, Lee Simmons
"But He was wounded for our transgressions, He was bruised for our iniquities: the chastisement of our peace was upon Him; and with His stripes we are healed."
DEVOTIONAL THOUGHT: The thing I love about the Old Testament is the thing I love about the New Testament. The Old Testament and the New Testament both are the inspired Word of God. Dont get the idea that the Old Testament has a message different from the New Testament. All of the Bible is about Jesus. If you read the Bible and you dont find Jesus, you better go reread it. Somebody may ask if you have read the four gospels, and you can answer them, Ive read all sixty-six! From Genesis to Revelation, it has the same villain Satan. It has the same hero Jesus. It has the same purpose to present salvation in no other name but Jesus.
ACTION POINT: Read Isaiah 53. What are the prophecies that were fulfilled in the life of Christ?

I shall not die, but live, and declare the works of the Lord. (Psalm 118:17)
A
fair assurance this! It was no doubt based upon a promise, inwardly
whispered in the psalmist's heart, which he seized upon and enjoyed. Is
my case like that of David? Am I depressed because the enemy affronts
me? Are there multitudes against me and few on my side? Does unbelief
bid me lie down and die in despair - a defeated, dishonored man? Do my
enemies begin to dig my grave?
What then? Shall I yield to the
whisper of fear, and give up the battle, and with it give up all hope?
Far from it. There is life in me yet: "I shall not die." Vigor will
return and remove my weakness: "I shall live." The Lord lives, and I
shall live also. My mouth shall again be opened: "I shall declare the
works of Jehovah." Yes, and I shall speak of the present trouble as
another instance of the wonder-working faithfulness and love of the
Lord my God. Those who would gladly measure me for my coffin had better
wait a bit, for "the Lord hath chastened me sore, but he hath not given
me over unto death." Glory be to His name forever! I am immortal till
my work is done. Till the Lord wills it, no vault can close upon me.

DEVOTIONAL THOUGHT: Do you believe that there is a home in heaven waiting for you? There is! Because Jesus cannot lie. He is Truth incarnate. He always told the truth. He said, if it were not so, I would have told you. Jesus would not let the hope of heaven go on beating in your heart if it were simply a lie, a superstition, or a fond delusion. Heaven is not merely a state of mind. It is not a condition. It is a place so real that Jesus is there in a literal, resurrected body. There is a body in this place called heaven. It is His resurrected body. Heaven is a place on Gods map.

Are
you mourning, believer, because you are so weak in the divine life:
because your faith is so little, your love so feeble? Cheer up, for you
have cause for gratitude. Remember that in some things you are equal to
the greatest and most full-grown Christian. You are as much bought with
blood as he is. You are as much an adopted child of God as any other
believer. An infant is as truly a child of its parents as is the
full-grown man. You are as completely justified, for your justification
is not a thing of degrees: your little faith has made you clean every
whit. You have as much right to the precious things of the covenant as
the most advanced believers, for your right to covenant mercies lies
not in your growth, but in the covenant itself; and your faith in Jesus
is not the measure, but the token of your inheritance in Him. You are
as rich as the richest, if not in enjoyment, yet in real possession.
The smallest star that gleams is set in heaven; the faintest ray of
light ! has affinity with the great orb of day. In the family
register of glory the small and the great are written with the same
pen. You are as dear to your Father's heart as the greatest in the
family. Jesus is very tender over you. You are like the smoking flax; a
rougher spirit would say, "put out that smoking flax, it fills the room
with an offensive odour!" but the smoking flax He will not quench. You
are like a bruised reed; and any less tender hand than that of the
Chief Musician would tread upon you or throw you away, but He will
never break the bruised reed. Instead of being downcast by reason of
what you are, you should triumph in Christ. Am I but little in Israel?
Yet in Christ I am made to sit in heavenly places. Am I poor in faith?
Still in Jesus I am heir of all things. Though "less than nothing I can
boast, and vanity confess." yet, if the root of the matter be in me I
will rejoice in the Lord, and glory in the God of my salvation.

As the living Father hath sent me, and I live by the Father: so he that eateth me, even he shall live by me. (John 6:57)
We
live by virtue of our union with the Son of God. As God-man Mediator,
the Lord Jesus lives by the self-existent Father who has sent Him, and
in the same manner we live by the Savior who has quickened us. He who
is the source of our life is also the sustenance of it. Living is
sustained by feeding. We must support the spiritual life by spiritual
food, and that spiritual food is the Lord Jesus. Not His life, or
death, or offices, or work, or word alone, but Himself, as including
all these. On Jesus Himself we feed.
This is set forth to us in
the Lord's Supper, but it is actually enjoyed by us when we meditate
upon our Lord, believe in Him with appropriating faith, take Him into
ourselves by love, and assimilate Him by the power of the inner life.
We know what it is to feed on Jesus, but we cannot speak it or write
it. Our wisest course is to practice it and to do so more and more. We
are entreated to eat abundantly, and it will be to our infinite profit
to do so when Jesus is our meat and our drink.
Lord, I thank
Thee that this, which is a necessity of my new life, is also its
greatest delight. So, I do at this hour feed on Thee.
Christ both died, and rose, and revived, that he might be Lord both of the dead and living.
Yet
it pleased the LORD to bruise him; he hath put [him] to grief: when
thou shalt make his soul an offering for sin, he shall see [his] seed,
he shall prolong [his] days, and the pleasure of the LORD shall prosper
in his hand. He shall see of the travail of his soul, [and] shall be
satisfied: by his knowledge shall my righteous servant justify many;
for he shall bear their iniquities.--Ought not Christ to have suffered
these things, and to enter into his glory?--We thus judge, that if one
died for all, then were all dead: and [that] he died for all, that they
which live should not henceforth live unto themselves, but unto him
which died for them, and rose again.
Let all the house of Israel
know assuredly, that God hath made that same Jesus, whom ye have
crucified, both Lord and Christ.--Who verily was foreordained before
the foundation of the world, but was manifest in these last times for
you, who by him do believe in God.

"Let us lift up our heart with our hands unto God in the heavens."-Lamentations 3:41
The
act of prayer teaches us our unworthiness, which is a very salutary
lesson for such proud beings as we are. If God gave us favours without
constraining us to pray for them we should never know how poor we are,
but a true prayer is an inventory of wants, a catalogue of necessities,
a revelation of hidden poverty. While it is an application to divine
wealth, it is a confession of human emptiness. The most healthy state
of a Christian is to be always empty in self and constantly depending
upon the Lord for supplies; to be always poor in self and rich in
Jesus; weak as water personally, but mighty through God to do great
exploits; and hence the use of prayer, because, while it adores God, it
lays the creature where it should be, in the very dust. Prayer is in
itself, apart from the answer which it brings, a great benefit to the
Christian. As the runner gains strength for the race by daily exercise,
so for the great race of life we acquire energy by the hallowed labour
of pra! yer. Prayer plumes the wings of God's young eaglets, that
they may learn to mount above the clouds. Prayer girds the loins of
God's warriors, and sends them forth to combat with their sinews braced
and their muscles firm. An earnest pleader cometh out of his closet,
even as the sun ariseth from the chambers of the east, rejoicing like a
strong man to run his race. Prayer is that uplifted hand of Moses which
routs the Amalekites more than the sword of Joshua; it is the arrow
shot from the chamber of the prophet foreboding defeat to the Syrians.
Prayer girds human weakness with divine strength, turns human folly
into heavenly wisdom, and gives to troubled mortals the peace of God.
We know not what prayer cannot do! We thank thee, great God, for the
mercy-seat, a choice proof of thy marvellous lovingkindness. Help us to
use it aright throughout this day!
I have set before thee an open door, and no man can shut it. (Revelation 3:8)
Saints
who remain faithful to the truth of God have an open door before them.
My soul, thou hast resolved to live and die by that which the Lord has
revealed in His Word, and therefore before thee stands this open door.
I
will enter in by the open door of communion with God. Who shall say me
nay? Jesus has removed my sin and given me His righteousness; therefore
I may freely enter. Lord, I do so by Thy grace.
I have also
before me an open door into the mysteries of the Word. I may enter into
the deep things of God. Election, union to Christ, the Second advent -
all these are before me, and I may enjoy them. No promise and no
doctrine are now locked up against me.
An open door of access is
before me in private and an open door of usefulness in public. God will
hear me; God will use me. A door is opened for my onward march to the
church above, and for my daily fellowship with saints below. Some may
try to shut me up or shut me out, but all in vain.
Soon shall I
see an open door into heaven: the pearl gate will be my way of
entrance, and then I shall go in unto my Lord and King and be with God
eternally shut in.

[place], with him also [that is] of a contrite and humble spirit, to
revive the spirit of the humble, and to revive the heart of the

[which] I have made.
I will seek that which was lost, and bring
again that which was driven away, and will bind up [that which was]
broken, and will strengthen that which was sick.--Wherefore lift up the

let it rather be healed.--Behold, your God . . . will come and save you.

Cease from anger and forsake wrath; fret not your selfit tends only to evildoing. Whenever I find myself in a situation I can't do anything about, I have found that a good way to cast my care upon the Lord is simply to say, "Oh, well."
Take, for example, the morning that Dave spilled his orange juice in the car and got a little of it on my sweater. Immediately he said, "Devil, I'm not impressed." And I said, "Oh, well." So that problem was solved, and we pressed forward with the rest of our day.
Some things just aren't worth getting upset about, yet many people do. Unfortunately a large majority of Christians are upset, fretful, and full of anxiety most of the time. It is not the big things that get to them; it is the little things that don't fit into their plans. Instead of casting their care and just saying, "Oh well," they are always trying to do something about something they can't do anything about. On more than one occasion that simple phrase "Oh, well" has really helped me to make it through.

"Behold, if the leprosy have covered all his flesh, he shall pronounce him clean that hath the plague."-Leviticus 13:13
Strange
enough this regulation appears, yet there was wisdom in it, for the
throwing out of the disease proved that the constitution was sound.
This morning it may be well for us to see the typical teaching of so
singular a rule. We, too, are lepers, and may read the law of leper as
applicable to ourselves. When a man sees himself to be altogether lost
and ruined, covered all over with the defilement of sin, and no part
free from pollution; when he disclaims all righteousness of his own,
and pleads guilty before the Lord, then is he clean through the blood
of Jesus, and the grace of God. Hidden, unfelt, unconfessed iniquity is
the true leprosy, but when sin is seen and felt it has received its
death blow, and the Lord looks with eyes of mercy upon the soul
afflicted with it. Nothing is more deadly than self-righteousness, or
more hopeful than contrition. We must confess that we are "nothing else
but sin," for no confession short of this will be the whole truth, and
if the Ho! ly Spirit be at work with us, convincing us of sin,
there will be no difficulty about making such an acknowledgment-it will
spring spontaneously from our lips. What comfort does the text afford
to those under a deep sense of sin! Sin mourned and confessed, however
black and foul, shall never shut a man out from the Lord Jesus.
Whosoever cometh unto Him, He will in no wise cast out. Though
dishonest as the thief, though unchaste as the woman who was a sinner,
though fierce as Saul of Tarsus, though cruel as Manasseh, though
rebellious as the prodigal, the great heart of love will look upon the
man who feels himself to have no soundness in him, and will pronounce
him clean, when he trusts in Jesus crucified. Come to Him, then, poor
heavy-laden sinner,
Come needy, come guilty, come loathsome and bare; You can't come too filthy-come just as you are.

"...and whom He justified, them He also glorified."
What does it mean to be justified? It means to be declared righteous. Though being good gives God glory, justification is not being good. When you put your faith where God puts your sins, God stamps "righteous" over your name in His "Book of Life." Not because of what you have done or can ever do, but because of justification. No court on earth can justify anybody. But what God does is take a guilty person and not only give that guilty person a pardon, but make that guilty person just as if he had never sinned. That's justification.
If you lived every moment believing in the justification that God has given you, how would your faith be strengthened? Would you be more vocal about the gift of Gods love?

Like Palm and Cedar
The righteous shall flourish like the palm tree: he shall grow like a cedar in Lebanon. (Psalm 92:12)
These trees are not trained and pruned by man: palms and cedars are "trees of the Lord," and it is by His care that they flourish. Even so it is with the saints of the Lord: they are His own care. These trees are evergreen and are beautiful objects at all seasons of the year. Believers are not sometimes holy and sometimes ungodly: they stand in the beauty of the Lord under all weathers. Everywhere these trees are noteworthy: no one can gaze upon a landscape in which there are either palms or cedars without his attention being fixed upon these royal growths. The followers of Jesus are the observed of all observers: like a city set on a hill, they cannot be hid.
The child of God flourishes like a palm tree, which pushes all its strength upward in one erect column without a single branch. It is a pillar with a glorious capital. It has no growth to the right or to the left but sends all its force heavenward and bears its fruit as near the sky as possible. Lord, fulfill this type in me.
The cedar braves all storms and grows near the eternal snows, the Lord Himself filling it with a sap which keeps its heart warm and its bough strong. Lord, so let it be with me, I pray Thee. Amen.

"But let patience have her perfect work, that ye may be perfect and entire, wanting nothing."
Patience worketh perfection. When was the last time you asked God to make you perfect? Maybe you should have asked for patience as well, because it is only through patient, abiding faith and trust in the Lord that we become perfect. A lot of people confuse this word "perfect" with "sinlessness." The Greek word for "perfect" in James 1:4 is teleios, and it refers to maturing growth. For example, an oak tree is the teleios of an acorn. It is the perfection of an acorn. So when you're feeling discouraged and feeling a little blue, take a look at a mighty oak and see what a nut can do.
Take a walk this week enjoying the fall colors and ask God to give you the patience and faith that can turn a little acorn into a mighty oak.

"If the Son therefore shall make you free, ye shall be free indeed."
If there is a God and that God is a good God, then why is there suffering? What kind of a God is it that has created evil? Ever heard those comments? Ever made them yourself? Youre not alone. Many people have thought the same thing. But thats not straight thinking. Let me tell you the way it truly is. God did not create evil. God created perfection. God made man perfectly free, and freedom therefore gave rise to evil. In order to love, we must be free to choose to love. Then, in order to choose to love, we have to be able to choose not to love.
Which kind of love do you want from others? A forced love or a free love? Which sounds better, I have to love you or I love you?

Dead to Sin, Alive to Christ --from the messages of Adrian Rogers
BIBLE MEDITATION: Romans 6:11 - "Reckon ye also yourselves to be dead indeed unto sin, but alive unto God through Jesus Christ our Lord."
DEVOTIONAL THOUGHT: A woman woke up one morning. She felt like she had just gone to sleep. She said, "It can't be six o'clock in the morning!" But the radio said it was six, the clock said it was six, the sunrise said it was six. Now I submit to you, it really didn't matter how she felt, did it? The fact was, it was six. We need to get our salvation out of the realm of fickle emotions and begin to reckon and count on God's facts. Each morning you wake up, begin saying, "I am dead to sin. I am alive in Christ. I know it's a fact. He died for me. Now I reckon it!"
ACTION POINT: Look up the word "reckon" in the dictionary. Are you reckoning yourself dead to sin and alive to Christ?
"Ye were not redeemed with corruptible things, as silver and gold...but with the precious blood of Christ."
I was talking to a man who sold real estate and asked, What determines the worth of a piece of property? He said, What a person is willing to pay for it. It doesnt matter how much you paid for it yourself. Its what a person is willing to pay to have it for himself. That makes me want to shout! You and I must be worth something if Jesus would pay His life to have us for His own. Jesus is the proof of how much were worth.
Do you know how much you weigh? Call a jeweler or a bank today and ask how much your weight is worth in gold. Thats no comparison to your worth in blood.

For we have become fellows with Christ (the Messiah) and share in all He has for us, if only we hold our first newborn confidence and original assured expectation [in virtue of which we are believers] firm and unshaken to the end. Hebrews 3:14
Do not, therefore, fling away your fearless confidence, for it carries a great and glorious compensation of reward. Hebrews 10:35
But we do [strongly and earnestly] desire for each of you to show the same diligence and sincerity [all the way through] in realizing and enjoying the full assurance and development of [your] hope until the end.
All of the scriptures above should be meditated upon and taken very seriously. God is not interested in our starting things that we never finish. It is easy to begin, but it takes great courage to finish. In the beginning of a new thing we get all excited. We have a lot of emotions (ours and everyone else's) to support us. When the emotions wear off and all that is left is a lot of hard work and the need for extreme patience, we find out who really has what it takes to truly succeed.
In God's mind we are never successful if we stop somewhere along the way. He wants us to finish our course and do it with joy! If you have been tempted even recently to give updon't! If you don't finish the thing you are currently involved in, you will face the same challenges in the next thing you start. Some people spend all their lives starting new things and never finishing anything. Let us make a decision that we will be more than people who never reached their full potential.

Sin shall not have dominion over you: for ye are not under the law, but under grace.
What then? shall we sin, because we are not under the law, but under grace? God forbid.--My brethren, ye . . . are become dead to the law by the body of Christ; that ye should be married to another, [even] to him who is raised from the dead, that we should bring forth fruit unto God.--Being not without law to God, but under the law to Christ.--The sting of death [is] sin; and the strength of sin [is] the law. But thanks [be] to God, which giveth us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ.
The law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus hath made me free from the law of sin and death.--Whosoever committeth sin is the servant of sin.--If the Son . . . shall make you free, ye shall be free indeed.
Stand fast therefore in the liberty wherewith Christ hath made us free, and be not entangled again with the yoke of bondage.
If any man thirst, let him come unto me, and drink.
My soul longeth, yea, even fainteth for the courts of the LORD: my heart and my flesh crieth out for the living God.--O God, thou [art] my God; early will I seek thee: my soul thirsteth for thee, my flesh longeth for thee in a dry and thirsty land, where no water is; to see thy power and thy glory, so [as] I have seen thee in the sanctuary.
Ho, every one that thirsteth, come ye to the waters, and he that hath no money; come ye, buy, and eat; yea, come, buy wine and milk without money and without price.--The Spirit and the bride say, Come. And let him that heareth say, Come. And let him that is athirst come. And whosoever will, let him take the water of life freely.--Whosoever drinketh of the water that I shall give him shall never thirst; but the water that I shall give him shall be in him a well of water springing up into everlasting life.--My blood is drink indeed.
Eat, O friends; drink, yea, drink abundantly, O beloved.

Do your children believe that the most important thing to you is God? We must celebrate God in front of our children. Let me tell you what my children think and what they know. They know that their Daddy is imperfect. They know that I love God. I wouldn't be ashamed if you to asked them that. You can ask any one of them, "What's the most important thing to your Dad and Mom?" They would say, "The most important thing to our parents is their relationship with God."
Are you a parent? Then ask your children what they think the most important thing is to you. If they say anything other than your relationship with the Lord, make some changes in your life to reflect your top priority.

"To the praise of the glory of His grace, wherein He hath made us accepted in the beloved."
Do you have a know-so salvation? What I mean is, do you know that you are saved and have the assurance that if you died tonight you would spend eternity with the Lord in heaven? Many folks dont have that assurance. It is not a spiritual problem. It is a psychological problem. They cannot accept the fact that God has accepted them. Charlotte Elliott penned these words to a timeless hymn of assurance: Just as I am, without one plea, but that Thy blood was shed for me, and that Thou biddest me come to Thee, O Lamb of God, I come, I come! You are accepted just as you are. It is all grace.
Find the hymn Just As I Am and sing it to the Lord. Make it your song throughout the day when Satan tries to make you doubt Gods love and eternal gift of salvation.

Moreover [let us also be full of joy now!] let us exult and triumph in our troubles and rejoice in our sufferings, knowing that pressure and affliction and hardship produce patient and unswerving endurance. And endurance (fortitude) develops maturity of character (approved faith and tried integrity). And character [of this sort] produces [the habit of] joyful and confident hope. It is easy to say, "Don't worry." But to actually do that requires experience with God. I don't think there is any way a person can fully overcome the habit of worry, anxiety, and fear and develop the habit of peace, rest, and hope without years of experience. That's why it is so important to continue to have faith and trust in God in the very midst of trials and tribulations. It is so important to resist the temptation to give up and quit when the going gets roughand keeps on getting rougher over a long period of time. It is in those hard, trying times that the Lord is building in us the patience, endurance, and character that will eventually produce the habit of joyful and confident hope.

BIBLE MEDITATION: 1 John 5:3 - "For this is the love of God, that we keep His commandments: and His commandments are not grievous."
DEVOTIONAL THOUGHT: Submission
is a term that has been grievously distorted because there are men who
have used the word as a weapon to club their wives rather than as a
hammer to build their homes. When God tells the wife to submit to her
husband, He also tells the husband to love his wife (Ephesians
5:22-25). When God tells children to obey their parents, He also
instructs the fathers to "provoke not your children to wrath: but bring
them up in the nurture and admonition of the Lord" (Ephesians 6:4).
When God tells you to submit to Him, it is for your good (James 4:7).
Jesus is the head of the church, and He leads by love. The same should
be true in the home.
ACTION POINT: Discuss the principle of
submission with your family and friends this week. Contrast what the
world would say it means to submit with what God desires for us.
Let us lift up our heart with [our] hands unto God in the heavens.
Who
[is] like unto the LORD our God, who dwelleth on high, who humbleth
[himself] to behold [the things that are] in heaven, and in the
earth!--Unto thee, O LORD, do I lift up my soul.--I stretch forth my
hands unto thee: my soul [thirsteth] after thee, as a thirsty land. . .
. Hide not thy face from me, lest I be like unto them that go down into
the pit. Cause me to hear thy lovingkindness in the morning; for in
thee do I trust: cause me to know the way wherein I should walk; for I
lift up my soul unto thee.
Because thy lovingkindness [is]
better than life, my lips shall praise thee. Thus will I bless thee
while I live: I will lift up my hands in thy name.--Rejoice the soul of
thy servant: for unto thee, O Lord, do I lift up my soul. For thou,
Lord, [art] good, and ready to forgive; and plenteous in mercy unto all
them that call upon thee.
Whatsoever ye shall ask in my name, that will I do.
La 3:41 Ps 113:5,6 25:1 143:6-8 63:3,4 86:4,5 Joh 14:13
But now we are discharged from the Law and have terminated all intercourse with it, having died to what once restrained and held us captive. So now we serve not under [obedience to] the old code of written regulations, but [under obedience to the promptings] of the Spirit in newness [of life]. According to this passage, we are no longer under the restraints of the law but now serve the Lord under obedience to the promptings of the Holy Spirit. A prompting is a "knowing" down on the inside of you telling you what to do. First Kings 19:11-12 describes the "still, small voice" the Lord used with Elijah: "And behold, the Lord passed by, and a great and strong wind rent the mountains and broke in pieces the rocks before the Lord, but the Lord was not in the wind; and after the wind an earthquake, but the Lord was not in the earthquake; And after the earthquake afire, but the Lord was not in the fire; and after the fire [a sound of gentle stillness and] a still, small voice."
A prompting from the Lord is not like hitting someone over the head with a hammer to prompt them to do something! The Lord did not use the great and strong wind, the earthquake, or the fire as a prompting but instead came as "a sound of gentle stillness" and "a still, small voice."
The prompting of "a still, small voice" is not necessarily a voice; it can be God's wisdom giving you direction in that moment. First Corinthians 1:30 tells us, "But it is from Him that you have your life in Christ Jesus, Whom God made our Wisdom from God." If we are born again, Jesus is living inside us. If He is inside us, we have God's wisdom in us to draw on at any moment! But unless we listen to wisdom, it won't do us any good.

But the Lord was with Joseph, and showed him mercy and loving-kindness and gave him favor in the sight of the warden of the prison. There are many people spoken of in the Bible who received favor. Since God is no respecter of persons (See Acts 10:34), we can believe for and receive favor in our daily lives.
Favor is available to us but like many other good things in life, just because something is available to us does not mean that we will ever partake of it. The Lord makes many things available to us that we never receive and enjoy because we never activate our faith in that area. I am a very bold, straightforward, tell-it-like-I-see-it woman. Many people don't handle that type of personality very well, so I knew I needed favor. I needed God to show people my heart and help them believe that I wanted to help them. I think we all have some personality quirks that can turn people off, so praying for favor is a wise thing to do.
When God gives us favor, people favor usand often for no reason they can even explain. If three people applied for the same position and were all equally qualified, the one living under the favor of God would get it.
Favor is actually a part of grace. In the English New Testament the word grace and the word favor are both translated from the same Greek word charis. So the grace of God is the favor of God. And the favor of God is the grace of Godthat which causes things to happen in our lives that need to happen, through the channel of our faiththe power of God doing something for us that we can neither earn nor deserve.
I know you have had times of receiving favor, and I am sure you enjoyed it very much. I am encouraging you to release your faith in this area in a greater way than ever before. Don't be afraid to ask God to give you favor.

"Whosoever believeth that Jesus is the Christ is born of God."
What is salvation? It's not a creed. You say, Well, I believe the plan of salvation. You can believe the plan of salvation and go straight to hell. Youre not saved by the plan of salvation; youre saved by the Man of salvation. Salvation is not a creed. Its not a code. You say, Well, I believe if you live right, youll go to heaven. If you could be saved by living right then Calvary was a blunder. Its not a cause. You say, Im a member of a good, fundamental, Bible-believing church. Its not any of these things. Its Christ. Salvation is not believing something; it is receiving Someone. The true gospel is one that centers in Jesus Christ.
Ask God to give you a divine opportunity to boldly share Jesus with someone today. Maybe its a co-worker; maybe its your child. Maybe its a stranger that sits next to you at a restaurant. Be strong and of good courage; God will go before you to prepare the way.
"And I, if I be lifted up from the earth, will draw all men unto Me."
For the first time in history, man is afraid of what he knows. His head and his hands have outrun his heart, and we are being faced with things for which we have no answers the plague of AIDS, the tinderbox in the Middle East, the outbreaks of famine, the irregular weather disturbances, and much more. But, we dont have to wring our hands and say, What is the world coming to? We can look up and say, Who is the world coming to? Its coming to Jesus! Praise God!
Call your church today and ask if there is a place where you can volunteer in the area of community outreach. Perhaps there is a soup kitchen, a nursing home, a homeless shelter, or a childrens center where you can serve.

Job said, I have esteemed the words of his mouth more than my necessary food (Job 23:12). When Gods Word is as important to you as your physical food, then youre going to start to grow in your Christian life. I wonder if one day the dust on our Bibles is not going to testify against us. The following poetic lines sober my heart: These hath God married and no man shall part, dust on the Bible and drought on the heart. Oh, that we would hunger for the Word of God!
Fast from one meal today. Sense just a touch of the hunger our hearts are to have for the Word of God, and remember to pray for those who need the pure milk of His Word!

- "For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves, it is the gift of God."
How can you tell whether or not you have the true gospel? Paul gives you three tests. First, the source of the gospel. Where did it come from? God gave it. It is direct and divine revelation. The gospel is authenticated by its source. Secondly, by its salvation. Any gospel that is not the gospel of grace is not the true gospel. You cant beg it. You cant buy it. You cant borrow it. You cant steal it. You cant earn it. It was bought by Christ on the cross. It is the supernatural work of God. The third test is its subject. It is the grace of Christ. Jesus is the subject. From Genesis to Revelation, the Bible is all about Jesus.
Take an hour or two this week and find the prophecies of Jesus in the book of Isaiah. Take comfort in knowing that Jesus is the One Who was, Who is, and Who is to come!

There was a sign in a business that said, We are not what we think we are; what we think we are. What are you allowing into your mind that is thereby controlling your heart, your actions, and your words? God made you so that you cant think two thoughts at one time. If youre thinking whats right, you cant be thinking whats wrong. And as you think, you will become. Guard your mind. Center your mind upon the Lord Jesus. Dont let the devil take away your pure-hearted devotion to the Lord Jesus Christ. Stay in love with Jesus and there wont be any room for those filthy, dirty, wicked, lascivious, lustful, and prideful thoughts that bombard us all.

Night of Weeping; Joyous Day
For his anger endureth but a moment; in his favor is life: weeping may endure for a night, but joy cometh in the morning. (Psalm 30:5)
A moment under our Father's anger seems very long, and yet it is but a moment after all. If we grieve His Spirit, we cannot look for His smile; but He is a God ready to pardon, and He soon puts aside all remembrance of our faults. When we faint and are ready to die because of His frown, His favor puts new life into us.
This verse has another note of the semi-quaver kind. Our weeping night soon turns into joyous day. Brevity is the mark of mercy in the hour of the chastisement of believers. The Lord loves not to use the rod on His chosen; He gives a blow or two, and all is over; yea, and the life and the joy, which follow the anger and the weeping, more than make amends for the salutary sorrow.
Come, my heart, begin thy hallelujahs! Weep not all through the night, but wipe thine eyes in anticipation of the morning. These tears are dews which mean us as much good as the sunbeams of the morrow. Tears clear the eyes for the sight of God in His grace and make the vision of His favor more precious. A night of sorrow supplies those shades of the pictures by which the highlights are brought out with distinctness. All is well.
I heard about a man who entered an interstate out of a side road and did not even slow down. A big eighteen-wheeler pulled over, almost wrecking him. The truck driver leaned out of the window and yelled, Hey, didnt you see that sign? The man said, What sign? The trucker said, That sign that said, 'YIELD'. Oh, he said, I opened the window and 'yield' as loud as I could. In the matter of victory, it is not your ability or your responsibility that counts. It is not even your response to His ability. You must choose to yield to Christ. You are to yield with all of your heart to the power, the presence, and the provision of the Lord Jesus Christ.
Look up the definition of yield. What does it say about the right of way? Who has the right of way in your life? Bow before the Lord and surrender all of you to all of Him today.

The sign over the church door where I attended as a boy read, The Lord is in His holy temple. Let all the earth keep silent. I mistakenly took that to mean that I had just entered the holy temple and had better start acting religious. We are the temple of God, not a building made of brick and mortar. Wherever we go, whatever we do, we are to be doing all in the name of Jesus. The secular is to be sanctified so that Jesus will be glorified in everything. Because He lives in you, every day is a holy day, not just Sundays. The spiritual life is 24 hours a day, 7 days a week for all eternity.

Be well balanced (temperate, sober of mind), be vigilant and cautious at all times; for that enemy of yours, the devil, roams around like a lion roaring [in fierce hunger], seeking someone to seize upon and devour. Withstand him; be firm in faith [against his onset rooted, established, strong, immovable, and determined], knowing that the same (identical) sufferings are appointed to your brotherhood (the whole body of Christians) throughout the world.
To be temperate is to be self-controlled. And to be sober of mind is to be level-headed. So here you and I are told to be well-balanced, self-controlled, level-headed, rooted, established, strong, immovable, and determined. According to this passage, how are we going to defeat the devil and withstand his physical and emotional onsets upon us? By being rooted and grounded in Christ. Satan may come against us with feelings, but we don't have to submit to our emotions. We can stand firmly against them even while they rage against us and even within us.
When problems ariseand they will from time to timewe are not to assume that the Lord will intervene without an invitation and take care of all our problems for us. We are to pray and ask Him to change our circumstances. Then we are to remain constant and unchanging, which will be a sign to the enemy of his impending downfall and destruction. Do you know why our constancy and fearlessness are a sign to Satan that he will fail? Because he knows that the only way he can overcome a believer is through deception and intimidation. How can he threaten someone who has no fear of him? How can he deceive someone who recognizes his lies and refuses to believe them? What good does it do him to try to stir up fear or anger or depression in someone who will not be moved by emotions but who chooses to stand firmly on the Word of God? When the devil sees his tactics are not working, he realizes he is failing and will be utterly defeated.

You were created to know three worlds the spiritual, psychological, and material worlds. These can be considered the world above us, the world within us, and the world around us. These worlds are related to the three parts of our human nature spirit, soul, and body. When you are rightly related to the material world with your body, you are healthy. When you are rightly related to the psychological world with your soul, you are happy. And when you are rightly related to the spiritual world in your spirit, you are holy. Gods aim is that ultimately you are to experience all three realities: health, happiness, and holiness.
Take a snapshot inventory of your life. Where do you need to start making changes to live a healthier lifestyle? What is your emotional barometer telling you about how you see others and yourself? Do you know of any area in your life where you are not living in obedience to the call of holy living?

One evening I overheard my father and a friend of our family talking. The friend said, Whats Adrian going to do when he gets out of high school? "With men this is impossible; but with God all things are possible."
The Lord Jesus said, Moreover if thy brother trespass against thee, go and tell him his fault (Matthew 18:15). You say, Hes the one that did wrong. If he wants forgiveness, let him come and ask for it. But Jesus said, No, you go to him. Whether you are in the right or whether you are in the wrong, as a child of God, you are to go to that individual. Isnt that what God did in the Garden of Eden? Adam and Eve sinned against God, and the Bible tells us that God came looking for them. Adam, where art thou? That was not the voice of a detective. That was the voice of a God Who pursues us to forgive us.
Stop right now and ask God to show you if you have an unforgiving spirit toward someone. Then, in His power and strength, call that person and ask his or her forgiveness. Its going to be impossible in your strength, but remember, God does the impossible

"For as the body without the spirit is dead, so faith without works is dead also."
When you ask God for something, do you just sit back, do nothing and say, Well, Im going to show my faith by doing nothing? To the contrary, you will show your faith by doing something. For faith without works is what? Dead! (Also see James 2:20.) Do you want a house? Pray for it. Then say, Amen, with a hammer and saw. Do you want a wife? Pray for one. Then go shave, put on some cologne, learn some manners, and learn how to be thoughtful and loving.
What have you been praying earnestly about this week? What is your hearts desire? Ask the Holy Spirit to show you how you can put feet to that prayer. Then, walk the talk!

Giving Without a Whisper
But when thou doest alms, let not thy left hand know what thy right hand doeth: that thine alms may be in secret: and thy Father which seeth in, secret himself shall regard thee openly. (Matthew 6:3-4)
No promise is made to those who give to the poor to be seen of men. They have their reward at once and cannot expect to be paid twice.
Let us hide away our charity--yes, hide it even from ourselves. Give so often and so much as a matter of course that you no more take note that you have helped the poor than that you have eaten your regular meals. Do your alms without even whispering to yourself, How generous I am! Do not thus attempt to reward yourself. Leave the matter with God, who never fails to see, to record, and to reward. Blessed is the man who is busy in secret with his kindness: he finds a special joy in his unknown benevolences. This is the bread, which eaten by stealth, is sweeter than the banquets of kings. How can I indulge myself today with this delightful luxury? Let me have a real feast of tenderness and Row of soul.
Here and hereafter the Lord Himself will personally see to the rewarding of the secret giver of alms. This will be in His own way and time; and He will choose the very best. How much this promise means it will need eternity to reveal.
And the sheep follow him because they know his voice. They will never [on any account] follow a stranger.
There are many different ways that God speaks to us. Many people think they don't hear from God because they are looking for some supernatural manifestation that simply won't happen. Most of the time, God speaks through a still, small voice within that sounds quite natural. God says that we are His sheep and that He is our Shepherd, and that His sheep know His voice (See John 10:1-5).
He may speak to us through nature, as He did with me a few days after I had received the baptism of the Holy Spirit. I drove past a field full of weeds, and in the middle of those weeds there were two or three patches of pretty flowers. I received an entire message from God about how flowers can grow in the middle of the weeds, and how good things are in our lives even in the midst of struggles and trials.
In all the years I have been listening for God's voice, I have had one open vision, and maybe four or five prophetic dreams. I am not making light of the fact that God speaks to some people through many dreams and visions; but most of the time, He just fills my thoughts with His thoughts and confirms them with His written Word. He gives me peace, and I try to follow wisdom.
We need to discern the Lord's voice carefully, but we needn't over-spiritualize hearing from God. It is not as difficult as some may think. If God has something to say, He knows how to get His point across. It is our responsibility just to listen with expectancy and test what we hear against internal peace.

The King James Version of this verse says that God looks for those "whose heart is perfect toward him." What does it mean to have a perfect heart? It means to have a heartfelt desire to do right and to please God. A person who has a perfect heart truly loves God, though he himself may not be perfect. He may still have things in the flesh to deal with. His mouth may still get him into trouble. He may make mistakes or lose his temper. But when he does, he is quick to repent and make it right with God again. If he has offended someone else, he will humble himself and apologize.
When God looks for someone to use, He doesn't look for somebody with a perfect performance but a terrible heart attitude. He looks for someone who may not have a perfect performance but who has a right heart toward Him. God has all kinds of positions open in His kingdom. To fill those positions, He is always bringing one person down and lifting another person up. If we don't behave ourselves and keep a right attitude, we won't be in a position for God to use us in the way He wants to use us. He can promote us, but He can also demote us.
In our organization when we get ready to promote people, we don't look for those who are the most talented. We look for those who have a right heart attitude, those who are willing to do a little extra when called upon to do so. That is the way God is. And one of the main things He looks for when He is ready to promote a person is a perfect heart.

You will show me the path of life; in Your presence is fullness of joy, at Your right hand there are pleasures forevermore.
Seeking God for who He is, not just for what He can do for us, is vital to our victory as believers. This was a major lesson for me. I had to learn to rejoice in God, not in what He was doing or not doing for me. The joy of the Lord is our strength (See Nehemiah 8:10), not the joy of circumstances. We will have little or no strength against the devil if we are unstable and allow our circumstances to determine our joy. It took a while for me to make this transition, but what an awesome difference it made in my spiritual life. Previously, I had always felt that I needed something, that something was missing in my walk with the Lord. I found it all in His presence, not in His presents. What we are looking for is not God's gifts, but God Himself. His presence is what sustains us and gives us lifeabundant and everlasting life. We must decide that we will serve God even if we never get what we want. Like Job, we must say, "Though he slay me, yet will I trust in him." (Job 13:15 KJV)

For one is regarded favorably (is approved, acceptable, and thankworthy) if, as in the sight of God, he endures the pain of unjust suffering. [After all] what kind of glory [is there in it] ifwhen you do wrong and are punished for it, you take it patiently? But if you bear patiently with suffering [which results] when you do right and that is undeserved, it is acceptable and pleasing to God. If you and I are going to receive from these verses what God wants us to have, we will have to read them slowly and digest each phrase and sentence thoroughly. I will admit that I studied them for years trying to understand why it pleased God so much to see me suffer when the Bible plainly states that Jesus bore my suffering and pains of punishment (See Isaiah 53:3-6). It was many years before I realized that the focal point of these verses in 1 Peter is not the suffering but the attitude one should have in suffering. Notice the word "patiently" being used in this passage, which says that if someone treats us wrong and we handle it patiently, it is pleasing to God. To encourage us in our suffering, we are exhorted to look at how Jesus handled the unjust attacks made on Him. The thing that pleases God is our patient attitudenot our suffering.

That through death he might destroy him that had the power of death.
Our Saviour Jesus Christ, . . . hath abolished death, and hath brought life and immortality to light through the gospel.-- He will swallow up death in victory; and the Lord GOD will wipe away tears from off all faces; and the rebuke of his people shall he take away from off all the earth: for the LORD hath spoken [it].--When this corruptible shall have put on incorruption, and this mortal shall have put on immortality, then shall be brought to pass the saying that is written, Death is swallowed up in victory. O death, where [is] thy sting? O grave, where [is] thy victory? The sting of death [is] sin; and the strength of sin [is] the law. But thanks [be] to God, which giveth us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ.
God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind.--Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil: for thou [art] with me; thy rod and thy staff they comfort me.

Theres an interesting story about how a gifted violinist named Fritz Kreisler acquired a Stradivarius violin. Kreisler heard about the violin owned by an old Englishman and offered to buy it, but the old man said it wasnt for sale. One day Kreisler ventured to the old mans house and said, If I cant buy it, may I touch it? The old Englishman invited him in and even allowed him to begin making music with it. Great tears welled up in the old Englishmans eyes, and he said, It is not for sale, but it is yours. You are the Master and alone are worthy of it! That is what worship is all about. God is the Master, and He alone is worthy.

BIBLE MEDITATION: Matthew 6:10 "Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done in earth, as it is in heaven."
DEVOTIONAL THOUGHT: Some
time ago I was invited to speak at a college in another state, and my
schedule was such that I could not come. When they offered to send a
private plane, I agreed. As we flew over Arkansas, the pilot asked me
if I wanted to try my hands at flying the plane. I said, "Yes." Of
course, he was sitting right next to me. He could fly it without me,
but I couldn't fly it without him. He had his hands on the controls
with me. He allowed me to participate with him. That's the way prayer
is. God can do it without you, but God enables you to have fellowship
with Him and teaches you a dependency upon Him.
ACTION POINT: Kneel before Him. Meditate on 1 Chronicles 16:23-36. Glory in His presence.

Welcome the Word which implanted and rooted [in your hearts] contains the power to save your souls.
Sometimes God transcends the laws of nature and speaks to us through supernatural revelation. There is nothing more supernatural than the Word of God, which is given to us by divine inspiration of the Holy Spirit speaking through His prophets and disciples. The Bible has an answer for every question we might ever have. Anyone who wants to hear God's voice must be a student of the Word. Of all the other ways that God may speak to us, He will never contradict the written Word.
If we think we can hear clearly from God without spending time in the Word, we are mistaken. Listening for God's voice without being dedicated to spending time in the Word on a regular basis opens us up to hearing voices that are not from God. Knowing the written Word protects us from deception. Some people only come to God when they are in trouble and need help. But if they are not used to hearing from God, they will find it difficult to recognize His voice when they really need Him.
Even Jesus resisted Satan's lies by answering, "It is written" (See Luke 4). Any idea, or prompting, or thought that comes to us needs to be compared to the Word of God. All vain imaginations are to be cast down and ignored (See 2 Corinthians 10:5), but knowledge of the Word is of vital importance in discerning the voice of God.

So then, there is still awaiting a full and complete Sabbath-rest reserved for the [true] people of God; For he who has once entered [God's] rest also has ceased from [the weariness and pain] of human labors, just as God rested from those labors peculiarly His own.
If you are troubled and upset, worried and worn out about all the changes that need to be made in you, why not enter the rest of God? Struggling won't change youneither will frustration or worry. The more you rest in God, the faster you will see change. If the canvas struggled under the artist's paint brush, the painting would never get finished. The canvas is perfectly still, totally submitted to the artist's wisdom and creativity. That is exactly the way we must be with God. He knows what He is doing and how to do it. We should believe in Him and enter His rest.

"Do not judge, or you too will be judged. For in the same way you judge others, you will be judged, and with the measure you use, it will be measured to you."
-- Matthew 7:1
THOUGHT: Are you judgmental? Do you assume you can judge the intent of another person's heart? Are you critical and negative about the actions of others? Jesus wants us all to realize that we cannot know the motivations of someone's heart. When we are unfairly harsh or bitingly critical in our judgment of others, we are setting the standard by which God will judge us. I don't know about you, but I'm not willing to exchange God's grace for my unreasonable harshness. I'm going to work harder at viewing others with mercy and grace.
PRAYER: Dear God, please forgive me for being unfairly harsh and critical in my assessment of others. Thank you for being so rich and free with your mercy and grace lavished on me in Jesus. Please help me to be more gracious and merciful in the way I assess the intent and motivation of my fellow brothers and sisters in Christ and of non-Christians as well. In Jesus' name I pray. Amen.

Do you want to know the will of God in your life? Heres a test: how much time do you spend reading the Bible? Do you think God really believes we want to know His will when we dont take even 15 minutes a day to read the one book above all books that God has specifically written to show you His will, to reveal His will to you, to unfold His will to you? Your first step in knowing His will is the surrender principle surrendering our will to His. Your second step is the scripture principle. Read His word, meditate upon it, share it, and study it. When you bow to His will and read His will, youll know His will.
Commit to read God's Word at least 15 minutes a day for 30 days. When the month is over, reevaluate what you have learned and ask God to help you be obedient to daily Bible reading from this day forward.

He renews my strength. He guides me along right paths, bringing honor to his name.
At my age now I feel really greatwhich shows that things like energy, health, and happiness don't need to decline as we age. But part of my contentment comes because I've become comfortable with who I am. I've succeeded at being myself. I don't pine away for my twenties, partly because I didn't like my twenties anyway, and partly because it wouldn't matter if I did! Here I am now, and I have chosen to live today!
People who long for their youth are never content, because every day that youth gets a little farther away. Don't despise getting old, because if you stay alive you can't avoid it. It's much better to enjoy who you are now and try to live and look appropriate for someone like you. It helps to find role models. We don't think of fifty or sixty-year-olds as needing role models, but they do! Everyone does.
Billy Graham is a good role model for me, and I can honestly say that I have never worried about how much he weighs or how many wrinkles he has. I admire him for his spirit, commitment, accomplishments, and dedication to God and his life's calling. Discontentment is one of the big giants we must conquer if we ever hope to enjoy life fully. Discontentment with looks, age, position, possessions, and anything else that makes us ungrateful for what we currently have.
We may not have all we would like to have, but we certainly have more than some people. No matter how you think you look, there is somebody who would love to look like you. No matter how old you are, there is someone older who would love to be as young as you. Cheer up and make the best of things. Love yourself and love your life; it is the only one you have!

And the word of the Lord came to Jonah the second time, saying, Arise, go to Nineveh, that great city, and preach and cry out to it the preaching that I tell you.
We read in the book of Jonah how God told Jonah to go to Nineveh and preach repentance to the people there. But Jonah did not want to, so he went to Tarshish, which, is geographically opposite to Nineveh. Running from God does not help us to be at peace with Him.
What happens when we go in the opposite direction from where God has directed us? What happened to Jonah? When he boarded a ship and headed in his own direction, a storm arose. Many of the storms we face in life are the result of our own stubbornness. In many instances, we have been disobedient to the voice and leadership of God.
The violent storm that came upon Jonah frightened the men on the ship. They cast lots to see who was causing the trouble, and the lot fell on Jonah. He knew he had disobeyed God, so he told the men to throw him overboard in order to deliver them from danger.
They did as he requested, the storm stopped, and a great fish swallowed Jonah. From the fish's belly (not a pleasant place), he cried out to God for deliverance and repented of his stubborn ways. The fish vomited Jonah upon the dry land; and in Jonah 3:1, we see that the word of the Lord came to Jonah a second time. It was no different from the first time: God told him to go to Nineveh and preach to the people there. No matter how long we avoid God's instruction, it is still there for us to deal with when we stop running.
God's will makes us uncomfortable only as long as we are not pursuing it. In other words, we always know when something is just not right in our lives. Eventually we see that being in God's will, not out of His will, is what brings peace and joy to us. We have to surrender our own wills, because walking in our self-centered ways is what keeps us unhappy.

And I will ask the Father, and He will give you another Comforter (Counselor, Helper, Intercessor, Advocate, Strengthener, and Standby), that He may remain with you forever.
"Standby" has a special meaning and application to us in this modern age. We are all aware of airline passengers who travel "standby," meaning that they stand by the airline ticket counter waiting to step up and claim a seat on the first available flight. The Lord used this scene to teach me about the Holy Spirit as our Standby, One Who stands by us at all times waiting for the first available opportunity to jump in and give us the help and strength we needwhich is why He is also called our Helper, our Strengthener.
I have learned that one of the most spiritual prayers we can offer is the one-word prayer, "Help!" I can't tell you how many times a week I will stop and cry out to God, "Help me, Lord, strengthen me. I know You are here because the Bible promises me that You are always standing by me to help me and strengthen me in every situation of life." Sometimes when I am preaching and teaching day after day, night after night, I get so worn out I just have to pray, "Lord, help me, I need Your strength."
There have been times when I have led seven meetings in four days. Often I get so tired that I have to remind myself that my help comes from the Lord and cry out to Him, claiming His promise that those who wait upon Him will renew their strength (See Psalm 121:2 and Isaiah 40:31). In such moments, I always receive the help and strength I need to finish the work that God has given me to do.

He who dwells in the secret place of the Most High shall remain stable and fixed under the shadow of the Almighty [Whose power no foe can withstand].
God has a secret place where we can dwell in peace and safety. The secret place is the place of rest in God, a place of peace and comfort in Him. This secret place is a "spiritual place" where worry vanishes and peace reigns. It is the place of God's presence. When we spend time praying, seeking God, and dwelling in His presence, we are in the secret place.
The word dwell means "to make one's home; reside; live." When you and I dwell in Christin the secret placewe do not just visit there occasionally, we take up permanent residence there.
In the New Testament, one of the Greek words translated dwell is the same Greek word translated abide in John 15:7 (NKJV) where Jesus says, "If you abide in Me, and My words abide in you, you will ask what you desire, and it shall be done for you."
If you and I abide in God, it is the same thing as dwelling in God. As a matter of fact, The Amplified Bible translates John 15:7, "If you live in Me [abide vitally united to Me] and My words remain in you and continue to live in your hearts, ask whatever you will, and it shall be done for you.
In other words, we need to be firmly planted in God. We need to know the Source of our help in every situation and in every circumstance. We need to have our own secret place of peace and security. We need to rely on God and trust Him completely.

And all of us, as with unveiled face, [because we] continued to behold [in the Word of God] as in a mirror the glory of the Lord, are constantly being transfigured into His very own image in ever increasing splendor and from one degree of glory to another; [for this comes] from the Lord [Who is] the Spirit.
There is a big emphasis today on spending personal time with the Lord, and rightly so. Unfortunately, many people have been frustrated by this emphasis in teaching. They want to spend time with God, but feel uncomfortable. Some express that they never sense God's presence. Or, they don't know what to do during those times. We must learn to "be" and not always feel that we must "do."
In the verse above we read that we must come with unveiled face in order to receive the benefit God wants us to have from the New Covenant. To me, this means that when I stop being religious and legalistic and just come to Jesus, when I lay aside all "my" works and begin to see Him, when I allow Him to remove the veil from my eyes, then He and I can enter into personal relationship that will ultimately change me into His image. More than anything else, we need His presence. He is the only One who can do anything for us that will be permanent.

A little boy was trying to roll a rock as his father watched from a distance. The boy was heaving and sighing, but he couldnt turn the stone over. His dad with a smile said, Son, are you using all of your strength? He said, Yes, Daddy, Im using all my strength. And the father said, No, youre not because you havent asked me to help you. My strength is your strength. Sometimes we wrestle with problems and say, I dont know what to do. Our Father wants us to say, Ive run out of my strength, and run into His. He is there. There is no problem too big for Jesus to solve. Do you believe that? I hope so.

"Think not that I am come to send peace on earth: I came not to send peace, but a sword."
A pulpit committee approached me one time and said, "We need a pastor for our church." I said, "I know just the guy. He is a fantastic preacher and has a fiery evangelistic spirit, but he has health problems and he's kind of old." I continued, "He's also been in jail several times." They began to shake their heads, and one said, "Well, we don't know whether he's the man we want or not." I said, "Well, don't worry; you couldn't get him. He's already in heaven, and his name is Paul." You don't want a guy who can rub shoulders with the people of this world and not rub any salt in their wounds. Where there is no offense, there is no effect.
Pray for the men who occupy the pulpits in our churches that they would not water down the truth of Gods Word, but be strong to proclaim its power.

"Woe unto them that call evil good, and good evil; that put darkness for light, and light for darkness; that put bitter for sweet, and sweet for bitter!"
People can become so warped in their thinking that they dont know the difference between right and wrong. I was listening to the radio one morning, and they were talking about what scientists want to do with the tissue of aborted babies. They said that some women are thinking about having babies, aborting them, then selling the tissue for research. The scientific community is promoting this propaganda because of the good they say the research will have on the whole of humanity! But what about the whole of humanity that begins in the womb? People today will play enough tricks on their minds that they will literally approve evil with a good conscience.
Where do you stand on this issue? What is right and what is wrong? Take some time this morning to read Psalm 139 and ask God to show you His truth.

The devil wants you to live your life from an empty cup. He wants you to think that Gods cup of grace has dried up for you. He wants you to be disenchanted with God. Most especially, he wants you to feel that God is a cosmic killjoy that God is always thinking of ways to rob you of joy and peace. Rejoicing at the Lord's Table --from the messages of Adrian Rogers
BIBLE MEDITATION: John 21:12a - "Jesus saith unto them, Come and dine."
DEVOTIONAL THOUGHT: Is
Satan whispering that God is not for you in your daily battles? Is he
whispering lies that God is going to erase your name from the Book of
Life for something you've done, yet repented over? Satan never had it
so wrong! And Jesus never had it so right! Salvation in Christ is not a
funeral, but a feast! The Bible is a continual feast from Genesis right
through to Revelation. Covenant meals and meals of fellowship are
frequent occurrences in Scripture. Our Shepherd, the Lord Jesus, has
given many examples of His open invitation to be replenished and
restored, to remember, and to rejoice at His table.
ACTION POINT: Call
your family together and celebrate the Lord's Supper this week as a

"Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil: for Thou art with me; Thy rod and Thy staff they comfort me."
There's nothing, my friend, that will bring you more face-to-face with God than going through the dark valleys of life. When you are there, you are going to cling to His garments and hold onto His hand. You won't stray far from the fold in the dark. Do you believe that He is with you? The ultimate Sovereign is your loving Savior. You will not have to cross Jordan alone. You will not appear before the judgment of a Holy God alone. You are not going to die alone.
What a joyful promise! You are not alone! Write these words on a card and post it in a place where you can see it all the time: "I am not alone. God is with me."

Blessed are they that mourn: for they shall be comforted. (Matthew 5:4)
By the valley of weeping we come to Zion. One would have thought mourning and being blessed were in opposition, but the infinitely wise Savior puts them together in this Beatitude. What He has joined together let no man put asunder. Mourning for sin--our own sins, and the sins of others--is the Lord's seal set upon His faithful ones. When the Spirit of grace is poured upon the house of David, or any other house, they shall mourn. By holy mourning we receive the best of our blessings, even as the rarest commodities come to us by water. Not only shall the mourner be blessed at some future day, but Christ pronounces him blessed even now.
The Holy Spirit will surely comfort those hearts which mourn for sin. They shall be comforted by the application of the blood of Jesus and by the cleansing power of the Holy Ghost. They shall be comforted as to the abounding sin of their city and of their age by the assurance that God will glorify Himself, however much men may rebel against Him. They shall be comforted with the expectation that they shall be wholly freed from sin before long and shall soon be taken up to dwell forever in the glorious presence of their Lord.
BIBLE MEDITATION: 1 John 4:4 - "Ye are
of God, little children, and have overcome them: because greater is He
that is in you, than he that is in the world."
DEVOTIONAL THOUGHT: The
One who created the valley is there with you! He has prepared the way
through the valley. It is not a place of permanence but a place of
passage. He knows every twist and turn, every changing shadow, every
den where danger lurks -- that One is with you! Focus on the light and
not the darkness. God has made you to walk through shadows. When the
shadow approaches, you must walk through. The One greater than death is
in you! He is your Jehovah Shamah -- the Lord ever-present. His grace
is greater. His peace is purer. His devotion is dearer. Where Satan
casts a shadow, our Sovereign Lord reigns supreme.
ACTION POINT: This
is a day of hope. Meditate on 1 John 4:4 throughout the day and ask God
to give you a divine appointment to share this beloved truth with
someone today.

The United States Government doesnt teach Treasury agents to detect counterfeit bills by having them study fakes. They show these agents real dollars over and over and over until they have the pattern memorized. Then, when a counterfeit is put in front of them, they recognize it instantly because it doesnt fit the pattern their eyes are looking for. Do you know the voice of the Lord? The only way you can be sure that it is His voice you are hearing is to hear it so often that a strangers voice is instantly recognizable. The end of it shall be with a flood, And till the end of the war desolation are determined. (27) Then he shall confirm a covenant with many for one week; But in the middle of the week He shall bring an end to sacrifice and offering. And on the wing of abominations shall be one who makes desolate, Even until the consummation, which is determined, Is poured out on the desolate."
"What man is he that fears the Lord? Him shall He teach in the way that He shall choose."
You are free to choose. You are not free, however, not to choose. Then, after you make a choice, your choice chooses for you. There are consequences for your choices always. If you choose to step off the roof of a ten-story building, you are not, then, free to choose the consequences of your choice. Your choice has chosen for you. What if you make a bad choice? What is Gods reaction? First, He is in control. Your choices will not take Him by surprise. Thanks be to God, He can prevail over our bad choices to restore us into fellowship with Himself!
Have you made a choice in your past that has brought you consequences reverberating even today? Share this insight with someone who is younger in the faith than you.

BIBLE MEDITATION: Psalm 31:24 - "Be of good courage, and He shall strengthen your heart, all ye that hope in the Lord."
DEVOTIONAL THOUGHT: Who
knows you better than the One who created you? Who cares more for you
than the One Who died for you? Who leads you more carefully than the
One Who knows the end from the beginning? There is no greater picture
of courage than the picture of Jesus Christ the Savior Who lays down
His life. You can know security because the One Who loves you is
compassionate, caring, and courageous. Jesus knows you. He cares for
you. He wants to lead you into the abundant life.
ACTION POINT: Are you willing to lay down your life for the sake of the Lord and let Him lead you?
"Be of good courage, and He shall strengthen your heart, all ye that hope in the Lord."

"But we have this treasure in earthen vessels, that the excellency of the power may be of God, and not of us."
If youre like most people, you dont realize your dependency on God until youre burned out from stress either self-induced or caused by circumstances beyond your control. Why is that? Paul says its because we are fragile, but he doesnt stop there. He says that God made us this way so that His power may be known through us! Maybe someone told you, Oh, just tie a knot and hang on! Sometimes God wants us to let go of the rope because it is keeping us tied down to our destructive habits. We are totally dependent on God so that the love of His Son may be made known to the world.
Get a piece of rope and tie a knot in it. Let it sit on your desk this week as a reminder that God is more than just a knot at the end of the rope; He is the Savior of the World!

Exodus 34:12-16
(12)
Take heed to yourself, lest you make a covenant with the inhabitants of
the land where you are going, lest it be a snare in your midst. (13)
But you shall destroy their altars, break their sacred pillars, and cut down their wooden images (14) (for you shall worship no other god, for the LORD, whose name is Jealous, is
a jealous God), (15) lest you make a covenant with the inhabitants of
the land, and they play the harlot with their gods and make sacrifice
to their gods, and one of them invites you and you eat of his
sacrifice, (16) and you take of his daughters for your sons, and his
daughters play the harlot with their gods and make your sons play the
harlot with their gods.
"Now unto Him that is able to keep you from falling, and to present you faultless before the presence of His glory with exceeding joy."
Have you fussed and fumed through lifes challenges, wondering if the Sovereign Creator of the Universe was on vacation? I have a message for you: The God who hung the stars, the God who poured the oceans, the God who raised the mountains, the God who knew you before you were knit together in your mothers womb, this sovereign God is your Savior. He is your King, and He is in control. When you are plucked from the depths of sin, you are placed in the very hand of God! You cant climb up into the hand of God; you are placed into the hand of God. Hallelujah! Our efforts didnt get us there. His grace placed us there. And His love will keep us there forever.
Read Psalm 139 and rejoice in the truth that God has created you and will make a way for you!

"Humble yourselves therefore under the mighty hand of God, that He may exalt you in due time: Casting all your care upon Him, for He careth for you."
When God brought us into this universe, He did not make us to abandon us. When God finished His first creation, He stepped back and said, It is good. But then sin came into the world, and we broke fellowship with our Creator. Because of His great love and mercy toward us, God sent His only Son to bring us back to Himself. Now, when we are saved, we become a new creation, and God says, It is good. When sin soiled your garments, God sent the righteous robes of His Son for you to wear. Now you are washed in His blood, clean in His sight, and forever in His heart.
Take a look in the mirror. Are you dressed in the robes of man or the King? Humble yourself under His mighty hand that He may lift you up.

(19) What purpose then does the law serve? It was added because of transgressions, till the Seed should come to whom the promise was made; and it was appointed through angels by the hand of a mediator.
"That they might set their hope in God, and not forget the works of God, but keep His commandments."
On June 8, 1845, Andrew Jackson said, The Bible is the rock upon which our Republic rests. Just a few years prior, in 1820, another of our forefathers, Daniel Webster said, Let us not forget the religious character of our origin. In the days of our founding fathers, people didnt quibble about the Bibles importance. Our forefathers brought hither their high veneration for the Christian religion, being journeyed in its light and laboring in its hope. They sought to incorporate, listen to, and infuse its influence through all their institutionscivil, political, and literary.
American heritage is important, but so is your personal spiritual heritage as a believer and as a family. Why not take some time this week to write down the spiritual heritage of your family?

"... for your heavenly Father knows that you have need of all these things."
St. Augustine once said that we were created with a God-shaped void. I agree. Only God can meet the deepest longings of our hearts. There is nothing that can satisfy apart from your relationship with Him, but it's not because He is a heavy-handed dictator forcing you to accept life the way He dishes it out! Who knows what will satisfy your deepest needs better than the One who made you? As your Creator, He can see what your needs are going to be tomorrow and ten years from tomorrow. Dont you think He knows what you need today?
What do you need today? Notice Im not asking, "What do you want? but "What do you need?" Does your Father know what that is? Then trust that He will provide.

If children, then heirs; heirs of God, and joint-heirs with Christ.
If ye [be] Christ's, then are ye Abraham's seed, and heirs according to the promise.
Behold,
what manner of love the Father hath bestowed upon us, that we should be
called the sons of God.--Thou art no more a servant, but a son; and if
a son, then an heir of God through Christ.--Having predestinated us
unto the adoption of children by Jesus Christ to himself, according to
the good pleasure of his will.
Father, I will that they also,
whom thou hast given me, be with me where I am; that they may behold my
glory, which thou hast given me.
He that overcometh, and keepeth
my works unto the end, to him will I give power over the nations.--To
him that overcometh will I grant to sit with me in my throne, even as I
also overcame, and am set down with my Father in his throne.

The Scottish-born naturalist and founder of the Sierra Club, John Muir, once had a conversation with railroad magnate and industrialist E. H. Harriman. "I am richer than you are," declared Muir to the railroad baron. "And how is that true?" responded Harriman. "Because you don't have all you want - and I do. Therefore I am richer than you," answered Muir. Well, perhaps these two men were playing word games with one another. We don't know if either man was truly satisfied with his life, but there's one thing of which Im certain. Our search for satisfaction will not be found at the end of the rainbow in a pot of gold. It can only be found in Jesus.
What satisfies you today? Is it the things you own? Your relationships? Your job? Ask the Lord to fill you with the source of lasting satisfaction - Himself!
