how do you retrieve your friends list that was for some unknown reason deleted? i hadnt been to care 2 for a short while and when i came back my friends list was gone. the front page usually listed all my friends and now they are gone. i guess there was a glitch that deleted alot of peoples friends list. please tell me how to get them back. my friends list also was in my ecard address book and they are gone from there as well. thankyou, joani

Hi Karen,
If you are unable to edit your profile billboard, you probably need to send in a Help Request Form to have C2 techs fix it. Provide detailed information to help them fix the problem quickly.

I don't use IE, so I'm not much help there, only a couple of  suggestions: Make sure you have the latest updates for IE, and your Windows platform; Clear your cache and temporary internet files.
If you are not seeing ANY images, make sure IE is not blocking images from any of the care2 related addresses such as dingo.care2.com.
If it is only your images you can not see, then review the instructions at photobucket as to which code to use - it changes occasionally. Also, you could try, if you haven't already, using your Care2 album and posting images from there to see if they work.

I don't use photobucket, and it has nothing to do with C2, so I'm no help with loading issues there.

Personally, I don't find C2 to be slow, but it does seem to be an issue encountered occasionally. They sometimes have issues with the various servers being slightly out of sync, causing some latency, or lag time. Sometime having too many third party toolbars [google, yahoo etc] on your browser can slow things down. You could also send a separate Help Request regarding optimizing IE for c2, but they would need a lot of info regarding your settings, addons, toolbars etc.

Hello~ I have been on care2 for awhile with not too many problems. Now, this just starting happening. I can get my messages, I can get to my groups but my page is taking forever to load. I cannot change my page because when I press edit, scroll down it says Warning: Using images wider than 470 pixels may break your page. I tried several times, just not working. Plus I cannot see any of my graphics nor can I see any of my graphics that I posted in any of my groups. I have high speed internet, I have IE7 and it is constantly coming up when I am in care2 that internet explorer has to close...I save everything to my own hard drive then I post to my groups. I cannot even get my graphics downloaded into my photobucket account after I have saved them. Care2 has been so s-l-o-w. Is there something that I should know about my settings? I am very discouraged and upset. Any help would be appreciated.

Windows XP is the Operating system of your computer, and it is the same as I use. It seems likely you are using Internet Explorer [IE] for a browser. I use Mozilla Firefox [FF].

I may have figured something out- as illiterate as I am about computers.... If I read that right- there's over 350 posts to this topic?  I've seen it before on other sites with discussions... while they appear different in many ways one thing I've seen over and over.  When the discussion goes on longer and longer- the page gets wider and wider.  Someone who knows more about computers may know why this happens.  It's less obvious here because usually the page starts each post a little further right as the page gets wider, but this topic or site doesn't do that.  The page just gets wider so you have to scroll sideways....  and dang is it slow!  others aren't this slow.... could that also be the number of replies? 

If so, I suggest starting another thread!

On 'my page' there's a spot specifically for embeding videos. But not on the page for the group that I host. If I can embed them on the discussion, that's fine.


I can see you changed fonts, colors and paragraphs, but I can't exactly see how easily- LOL. (now think about it, really...) What I'm saying is that the formatting bar doesn't half the time work for me. I won't say it never works- just most of the time it doesn't. Browser- that would be Windows XP. When I do get the format bar to let me type in a chosen format, it reverts back to plain small black font and all the sentences strung together without paragraphs- once I click on submit. (Is there something I need to change in Windows XP? I'm kind of afraid to change much, it costs too much to put it right if I do it wrong....)


Also, I'm talking about the fonts I'm trying to read. I have vision problems, I guess- well, did. And my eyes are even worse in some ways (always nearsighted before now I'm farsighted and my eyes just don't adjust) since cataract surgery. For instance, the font on the page for this group is really small and I can barely read it at all. I have no idea what the name is next to your pic. I haven't read far enough to see what/how you signed it. You've typed in nice large letters, easy to see- but one problem on this page (not others) is that I have to scroll back and forth, back and forth, back and forth a billion times and it's hard to follow what you're saying that way. That's why I have a text doc open in my word program and am going back and forth answering as I go.... And for the entries that are typed in really small to begin with- I could scroll sideways forever and ever and never make sense of them. (Now, that's only on this discussion page.... so far).


And I had a limited choice in themes because the default fonts are too light to be read against the color of the theme - and there's option to change them that I can find (color or size... and they're small). It makes it hard to read others profiles, too, for me and I imagine for others with vision problems. (My vision problems are NOT severe, my opthomologist swears I'm seeing fine and I did pass my driver's license vision test without any glasses.)


I do believe I said I've used "view" then "larger font"... which helps in some situations and I've used ctrl. +/-. It doesn't help if the color is dark grey against a slightly lighter grey background- or lavender on purple- lime green on plain green (forest green, maybe ok) but you get the idea. It only helps for the size of what I'm reading.... not posting.... and it only helps in a limited way. For some pages, it doesn't work at all.

Reading that and writing my reply took me over 90 minutes!  The above was cut and pasted from word- but this is typed directly and as you can see the formttting is gone!  and I didn't think I'd get it ever done!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!  tens minutes to get one letter on the page-----

if it was my browser wouldn't it be a problem on other sites???????  I went to the kitchen while the letters took their time getting on the page- LOL now it's going on 2AM....

I've posted to a couple of your questions elsewhere, too.

You can post videos in topics/threads/discussions in groups. Is this what you want to do? On billboards [groups or profile] it is not allowed for security reasons.

As you can see, I can easily change colours, fonts and paragraphs. I do not have to edit after posting. Different browsers seem to behave differently. I use Mozilla Firefox. What are you using?
Above the area where you type, there should be a formatting bar, do you see it? Generally the changes you make apply to whatever you type next, and you may have to set them for each paragraph you start [mostly new groups, and hopefully will be fixed]. Alternatively, you can make changes after typing your post. Select the text and apply your choices.

What options have you tried for making fonts more readable? There is some information around, and I'll try to put it together.

In New Groups you can apply different colour schemes to the themes in Theme Chooser, by using Custom.

You may be able to have your user name changed by submitting a Help Request Report [see 'my account' page]. You'd probably have to verify your email address associated with your account. If I remember correctly, you can choose whatever name you want for your new Care2 Email account. Once your C2 email is set up, you can download your contacts to your C2 address book.

I haven't gotten to all your questions yet, but how's that for a start? I'll check back later for more clarification and hopefully with more info.

There are a lot of places to ask questions, but not a lot of answers.  I tried to read the discussion for this group- and the page is in microscopic print and when I click ctrl + it gets bigger- but then it scrolls forever and ever across.  No one can read posts that way.

One of the things... (dang does this line look a whole lot smaller then the font in the paragraph above? or is this just me....) anyway- I posted on the group for discussion of groups about the font options..(one guy there actually said there's no need for font options, the user can do it from their computer easily enough??? not sooooooo!  cntrl +/- helps and so does view "largest", but you can't be constantly rearranging the entire screen to read a page with fonts that vary from size 6 to 32 all over it!)..... the advanced editor doesn't usually work, and when it does, not all options on it work.  And there's no choice in font color when you choose a theme on your page or your group's page- and sooooo often the font color isn't very visible with the theme.... unless you're into plain old blk/white (and with so many interesting themes who could settle for plain old blk/white?).

So- I joined the group for visually impaired- but there's been no posts there for a matter of years?????? so it was no help.

I'd been signing petitions for years and am so glad I finally realized there was more to Care2!  My nonprofit (or it will be when we get the $300 for the IRS) has added sooooo many contacts since we(me) joined!  When SEASCAT is googled, there are 20 listings now (maybe more if you check enough pages) and I think that's thanks to Care2, the sharebook I have and a petition I created.  If I had $, you'd see some of it. 

Anyway- the fonts were one question I've been asking about.

Another question is the problem of getting paragraphs to show (they tend to blend into one long string of sentences when you submit and you have to go back and edit a couple times).

Oh, any chance of being able to embed videos on your groups page, not just your personal page.  We have a list of educational videos we've started using in workshops for SEASCAT.

Oh, and how can I change my username. (edit basics does not allow for changing username, only everything else)  I'm having trouble with the address book on gmail and want to try Care2 e-mail for SEASCAT, but absolutely don't want to use my personal username for that and that appears to be the only option.  I'd really like to get rid of that old username, it's linked to an ex-boyfriend.... but have to keep the old yahoo address (which the username came from) just cause there's so many contacts there.  It was ok when all I did was sign a petition now and then from Care2, but it's not me and now I can't get rid of it.

Well, I think that's all the things I haven't found answers for elsewhere... SO- I suppose someone will contact me with suggestions on where to repeat these questions?  Maybe Care 2 is just growing too fast.... reminds me of when I used to teach middle school- LOL

I believe all of the reliable ways to contact care2 staff would be located in the 'Contact us' or 'About Us' pages. Note that the Help Form is also appropriate for giving feedback about the site. The Support Staff that reviews the Help Forms will forward them to the appropriate department.

Congratulations, Eleni! I'm glad you were able to accomplish your goal! - and you didn't even need instructions!

Thank you for confirming that my instructions were accurate [and would have helped] - that is always good to know! So often, people do not give feedback about these writings.

Regarding the C2NN, 'stacking the deck' simply means that members try to get their story to the front page by any means they can devise [i.e. cheating] - rather than allowing the natural dynamics of the C2NN community to work. It is the reaction of this community that determines which story appears on the Front Page. So, if you feel you've found a story that C2 members will want to read, please do post it! Even if only a few people Note It, still, those few people appreciated your effort!

Acceptable ways to increase Note-it opportunities include posting a link to your story in appropriate groups, or writing a Share and starting discussions about it - again - in appropriate groups. Most groups have rules regarding this kind of thing. Many who welcome News in their group will have an established thread called something like "News to Note", where members can provide links to their C2NN story. If you are unsure, its best to ask if such posts are allowed.

Hi Teil,

I forgot to mention in my last post that I have successfully inserted banners into my page and I would like to thank you so much for all the information you gave me. 

I would also like to do a bit of showing off, and give myself a little credit because I decided to do a last attempt on my own before reading your instructions and then test myself to see how I went.    And guess what? After all my fail attempts I finally did it on my own.  I was excited I got up and did a little dance around the room.  Then, I went back and read your great explanation of how to post a banner and I had done everything exactly as you had explained.

Your explanation was so well presented, you are really a natural born teacher.  I am so glad I didn't have to explain it, although I did write down all the steps I did as I went alone, I would not have done half as good a job as you did.

I hope your post on how to insert banners on my page helps others.

Finally, got around to answering your reply.  And thank you so much once again for taking the time to do so.  However, I don't understand what you mean by 'stacking the deck.'  I'm a sort of a black and white person and need things to be spelt out for me, so if you don't mind, could please explain what it means by stacking the deck.

I haven't submitted any more news stories because I feel there are no real guide lines as to how a story gets to front page.  Although I used to enjoy submitting news stories, it doesn't  really matter as there is so much to do on C2 and very little time to do it.  So, as us Aussie's say down under, no worries mate.

Hi Eleni,
I don't actually know what it takes to get a story on the front page - in fact, no one does. All that is known is that Care2 has applied some sort of algorithm as the requirement. Apparently, too many people were attempting to 'stack the deck' to get their story to the front page, regardless of whether the general membership actually showed interest. Sad but true.
So, now, when a story does make the front page, it reflects true interest. I think that's a good thing.

I hope this answers your concern, if not your actual question.

Thank you for your reply, haven't actually got around to doing it yet, will let you know when I do, however.

There is something else I'm hoping you may be able to help me with.  As you know I used to be a member before I rejoined and I used to submit a lot of news stories, when they were noted 30 times they would go front page.  This time however this is not happening and so I sent a help form in when it happened that my story hit 35 notings and didn't go front page within a day.  I received a reply saying that it depends on how long it takes to get the 30 notings before it goes front page and I thought fair enough but one day isn't really that long.  That particular story did eventually go front page but I have since had three more that have had 30 plus notings with the day and they haven't gone front page.  Would you happen to know what is required before a story goes front page?  I'm reluctant to send another help form.

Its no bother, Eleni! Believe me, I know how difficult it can be to get the hang of this stuff. I've been here since '99, and every single feature and service has changed during that time. I've had to learn and relearn all the methods and tricks, too.

Note that I use Firefox2 Browser on WinXP. If you use a different browser then dialogue boxes and options may be different. Also, I don't use Photobucket or other online storage sites, so I can't provide instructions for those. The process is very similar to adding images in posts, so there will be notes concerning that, as well.

I added the Suzuki banner with the method outlined previously. That was a little disjointed, tho, so here's another try:

1. Download banner image
- open webpage you plan to link to.
- right-click the image and choose "Save Image As" [may need to drag-to-select, then right-click]
- dialogue box opens and allows you to choose where to save the file on your computer, and what to call it.

2. Upload banner image to Care2 album
- Access your photos via profile or grey global menu "my photos" under "my Care2"
- Open an album or create a new one [May use Quicklink "add photos" and follow directions]
- on the Single Upload page, use the 'browse' button to find the banner image on your computer and click 'Add Items' at the bottom of the page.
- be patient. Message will appear with name of Image; click it to view image.

3. Add image to Profile Billboard [or post]
- in your album, click banner image to make sure it is the largest version available.
- Right-click banner image and choose 'copy image location'. This copies the image's address to the clipboard. [or right-click and choose Properties, and copy the URL from that box]
- go to your post or billboard and prepare the page. [click edit in upper right of billboard, and may have to scroll down to see Edit Window (EW)]
- place the cursor [pointer] where you want the image to appear
- click the 'insert Image' icon/button [usually looks like a tree]
- place cursor in first empty space, right-click and choose Paste [starts with: http://dingo.care2.com/pictures/c2c/galleries...]
- May need to add a title for the image
- click insert
- image should appear in Editing Window. You may resize the image by clicking it, then dragging the corner handles.
- preview to check layout
- click save for billboard [or for post, keep open for next step]

4. Link image to website
- go to web page you wish to link to [the page that will open when image is clicked]
- select and copy the URL in the browser's address bar.
- return to your billboard and open Edit Window
- drag-to-select banner image
- click the chain icon in the EW toolbar "insert/edit Link"
- a small box opens; in the 'link URL' space, paste the URL of the website.
- type a title in the space provided
- click Insert
- image will have an outline and change colour when you hove mouse over, to indicate it is an active link
- click Preview and check layout
- scroll down to EW and make changes, or click Save. [for post, click Submit]


I hope this is more clear than the other info. If any terms are confusing, just ask for clarification, ok?

I want to thank you so much for trying to help me but almost ready to throw the towel in which is really hard for me to do because I'm not the type of person who gives up easy.  So, before I do, may I ask you one last question.

On your page you have a banner from David Suzuki's nature Challenge and when you click on it, it takes you to that web page.  My question is; how did you put that banner there?

Sorry to keep bothering you, but like I said this is my last try, and then that's it.

I went through this when I joined the first time and tried so many times then and here I am a year later rejoined and am still trying to get this right.  I wish C2 had a better help center, I've tried in the past with different questions, waited forever for an answer and when I did get one, it didn't mean anything.

Anyway, you been great with trying to help me and I do appreciate it.  If you don't answer me I will understand.

Don't you think this Group should switch to the new format, and wrestle with the majority dealing with change, lol. As a Group for new hosts and members here this is just a thought. I know it's not easy, my 3 groups of 1750+ are in the new format since the beginning. You might as well dive in, lol.

Hi Eleni,
If the purpose of the banner is to provide a link to another web page [on or off Care2], then the info you copied would work. I would just emphasize two points:
1. you must save the banner image to your computer, then upload it to a storage site, such as your Photo Album, before adding it to your billboard via the 'Insert Image' button.
2. ensure the banner is not so wide that it might break your page. You can resize images in the EW by draging the corner handles.

Care2 also provides instructions on how to use their logos for linking from other sites. It involves  using the HTML button. Perhaps it will help you do the same thing with another site's logo/graphic. Or perhaps your site provides instructions.

Thank you for replying so quickly, however I already have that web page saved on my favorites but I don't seem to find anything on it that relates to posting banners on the my page billboard.

I'm thinking maybe the following might be it, but somehow I don't think so.
Providing links to other pages or websites
- two possibilities with similar technique
1) make a graphic into a clickable link
2) make text into a clickable link

- open the page you want to link to
- select and copy the URL of that page
- open the EW on your billboard
- drag to select the image or text [e.g. Name of Site] and click the small 'chainlinks' image in the editor's toolbar
- paste the URL into the space provided and click OK
- the image will have a box around it, and text will change colour and probably appear underlined.
Important: do not copy the URL directly to your billboard. URL's are often too long and are a common cause for 'broken billboards', which require the help of Care2 Tech to fix.

in your Care2 Wildmail type account, you should be able to choose how your 'name' is displayed. Look for an Options link - should be beside your email addy above the window that displays the contents of your inbox, etc. You need to edit your Profile info in Options. In fact, you can even set up multiple aliases in the Identities & Aliases section, if you really want to.

Susan,
are you talking about a Care2 Wildmail account, or Personal Messaging [PM] [the internal, email-like message system]? It does sound like the PM system, so... two reasons I can think of for not being able to preview or send a PM:
1. No recipient name selected. That said, there have been glitches in the past that did not recognize that a name had been added. If you have added a name, try refreshing your browser page - the recipient name is one of the last things to load, so wait for it. If you've already written a message, copy it so you can paste back into the PM, as refreshing will lose the text.
2. A security issue that is preventing the appropriate scripts from running. Have you changed any security settings on your browser, firewall or other security?
=> if the issue continues please send in a Help Request Form with very specific information.

Most often the RedX syndrome is caused by trying to use graphics from places not designed to supply them for this purpose. Try reading these threads below to see if they address your problem. However, sometimes a simple refresh of your browser will make images visible.

there has been an ongoing issue with Group Mail not reaching inboxes. However, the Care2 Techs recently stated they have solved the problem. If your Group Mail is still not arriving, send in a Help Request Form, and they may be able to get it restarted for you. However, it may also be your email service provider that has interrupted your mail from Care2. Read the info provided in the Help Form about 'Bouncing'. I've provided a link above, but for future reference, you can reach the Help Request Form thru the "Help Center" Link at the bottom of every Care2 page.

With the exception of one of the groups I've joined, I have not been receiving daily digest emails from any. I've gone back and triple checked each group discussion to be sure I indicated email preferences and that indeed new discussions have been posted. Of course checked proper email address and do receive other emails from care2. Any idea about this? I also just checked an option to receive a daily summary from care 2 on new group posts so maybe that will help. Thanks!

I've just posted a comment on a friend's comment board but the picture is showing as a red X in a white square. I've seen this on other people's profiles too. Did I do something wrong?

Hello, hello in Care2 land.  Suddenly, the preview and send feature on my emails that I compose is greyed out. Any ideas? I've gotten all the way out and tried it again and same result. Has a change been made I'm unaware of?

Since they changed c2 my Email Replies with my name...and that doesn't work for us since we don't know who we are always responding to...not safe, etc 

We don't want this and want to go back to the way we had it where we were able to type in our OWN preference.

We just don't see how to do this and so this acct (after >10yrs) will not be used as it always has been...and, thus, less Petitions will be/are signed if we need to use our Yahoo or other emails.

Careless change or is there a way and we just don't see it.

Hi Peggy,
What you want to do is 'hide' your profile. In the top right corner of every page it says:
Hi Peggy () :: logoff :: email :: my account
- click on 'my account'
On that page click 'Edit Basics' at the top of the left column.
Toward the bottom you have the option to Yes, display Profile, or No Hide Profile.

A couple things to keep in mind before you do this. Once you hide your profile, you can't do anything 'as a member' at c2 until you display your profile again. Make sure that you will remember your associated emails and passwords. Also, you might want to tell your friends you will be away for a while, as they will not be able to see you on their friend's list, or find your profile. People tend to get a little worried.

I'm gonna be moving soon, and take time to do a lot of packing at home.  Could someone tell me how to go about taking my billboard page off, but NOT deleting it.....just until I'm ready to put it back up, and not have to make a new page.  Some people I know here leave and come back with the same page.  Please tell me what I should click on for the temporary leave.  Peggy

Another aghh w/the "c2 Changes"...

Either they got to Busy w/the Big Brother changes and ads and now we don't have Our Choice on how we want our emails to appear or there is a way & I don't see how.

For years (like Yahoo and others) we have been able to type in a name (or msg) that is seen by others INSTEAD of our names being Forced in our em.  my em always had "acctg/bkkg" and now it shows my name!  It would have been common courtesy to inform us that our Privacy & Choice has been Taken away...no surprise, tho.  We're sure they are hooked up to bush/cheney machines so may as well use yahoo then.

It s/b my prerogative how I want my Email to read...otherwise i may as well just use Yahoo since c2 seems to be on their same plane now.

Hi Teil, ty for replying.  I have fixed the break on my page but as you can see I am a little red x again.  Any assistance with this would be greatly appreciated.  I just love this site and the longer I am her the more I find.  There is stuff here for everyone and is a very well maintained site.  I am so glad I found it even if I am a red x.  Take care and have a good day.

There was a widespread issue with profile photos [Avatars], which apparently has been cleared up!

As for your profile billboard, I'm afraid you will have to send in a Help Request Form [click to open] to get tech support to fix that for you. There is a thread here with info on the Help Form. For tips about your Billboard, try this "

There is a Search Feature at the bottom of the Page; move the pointer label to People and type in the name. Note that many people do not use real info for security reasons.

Hi, I have just recently joined care2.  It is wonderful.  I love it here.  I have encountered a couple of problems though,  first....my profile pic shows up but when i post all that shows is a red x.  Could you plssssssssssss help me to remedy this so the pic shows up.

   Second...my page seems to have broke from posting larger pics, I have made them smaller now but the page is still broken.  Could you tell me if there is a way to fix this.

Yes, that's the Key to refresh your screen, but more importantly, you want to click the Refresh or Reload Icon in your browser. Its usually in the upper left corner, or under View in the dropdowns. It also helps to clean out your browser cache, if you know how to do that. However, at the moment, patience may be the best tool. With the recent major changes to the system, and a long weekend where ecards are popular, it may be that the servers are taking a little longer to refresh their cache. You are not the only one to have this problem at the moment. It is something that has happened in the past, as well. If, after the middle of the week, your avatar has not updated, please send in a Help Request Form.

I certainly hope your email issue has been solved by now! The only thing I would have had to offer is that if you were opening a new email with the same account and alternate email, it may not be allowed, or may have caused a glitch. I'm not terribly knowledgeable about C2 Email.
Perhaps you could benefit from the Tips on Using the Help Form thread. Sending in multiple Help Forms on the same issue will slow down response time, not speed it up. There's lots of info in that thread - its red-pinned to the top of the discussion list.

Hi,

I have been using c2 for 10yrs and customer "service" has NEVER (rude) responded so am ckg around to see if anyone knows why I can't get to my email on this acct.

We can get to our other c2 emails just fine but this one I set up yesterday is not allowing me to get into the email.  When I click on email it gives me an error message and to send a msg to customer "service"  which we have sent several msgs the last 2 days ....no surprise! noone has responded (which they Could respond to the message area or my alternate em).

Hello and William!
I think you are referring to the colours and pictures for the background of your Profile page? They are called Themes here, and we are limited to the list of themes you found to choose from. It is possible to submit images to Care2 and have them made into a theme and added to the list, however that can take a while. There is a thread called User Themes that explains the process [probably in the archives].

The main way to individualize your Profile is by designing your Profile Billboard. Look for "my Billboard" below your avatar area, and click the 'edit' button at the end of the line. Check out this thread in another group "
TIP: Designing your Profile Billboard" for info. You do not have to join the CdM group to read the thread.

I hope you are finding all the great info in this group to be helpful. Have fun exploring all that Care2 has to offer!

Hi Peggy,
At the top right of Care2 pages you should see a line with your name, 'logoff', 'email' and 'my account' in it. Click on 'email' and it should open your care2 email, assuming you have already created your C2 email account.

I found in another group (Care2 feedback and suggestions) this and i thibnk it´s useful to know why that thappens?
 Sometimes you want to see the profile page of someone and you can´t That can be for one of this reasons

1)  The person violated our Terms of Service and/or Code of Conduct and their access has been suspended.

2)  The person has opted to hide their profile for whatever reason.

3)  The person has chosen to remove their account entirely.

Jean- There are several threads about how to do this. If you are using Care2 the easiest way to add graphics is to upload photos to your computer, make a Care2 photos album, add pictures then you can copy and paste them. Sound confusing?? It really isn't! 1. Find a graphic you want, right click on it and chose save picture as. 2. Save it to MY PICTURES which is a drop down from my documents. 3.When you have few graphics go to MY CARE2 on your browser. Click on it, drop down to MY PHOTOS. 4. On My Photos you will see ADD PHOTOS, click on that, Now you create an album and give it a title ( it will walk you through that process). Now you are ready to add photos. You will have 2 choices. The first one will let you add 4 photos, then you can add 4 more, etc. You will see BROWSE, click on it, make sure the top line in the window says My Pictures, if it says My Documents hit the down arrow and click on my pictures. When you see a picture that you want, click on it and it will save it to your Care2 album. Once you have added all the photos you want the hard part is over. Whenever you want to add them to an email or group post you simply go to MY Care2 on browser, drop to MY PHOTOS, open album, click on the picture you want, when it opens right click, pick COPY, go back to mail, post etc and right click, pick PASTE and there it is. You will see little boxes on each corner of your photo. Use them to make your picture bigger or smaller. Hope this helps!!  [ send green star]  [ accepted]

I'm not really sure, to be honest. I believe it  depends on what Email program you use, and what kind of editor that email program will allow you to use. For example MS Outlook allows you to use MS Word as the editor for outgoing emails. Because of this, the Menu includes the "Insert" dropdown menu, where one can choose to add clipart or a photo from your hard drive, among other things [like spell checking ].

On the other hand, most email programs, like Hotmail are very limited in what they allow [unless the new "Live" version is different]. It shouldn't matter what browser [IE or Firefox] you are using, unless the security settings block images - but that shouldn't affect email.

Well,I am not leaving. Even though care2 has its problems,it isnt worth leaving. I want to thank anyone and everyone for help and support. Guess what.. I think the problem was my browser(firefox) the box simply wasnt big enough to see the add button. So I decided to use Safari browser,and now I have it in.   Its a classic song, absolutely one of my favorites. Wow, you'd leave Care2 over a couple of glitches? That's unfortunate. It seems to me that there are more important and interesting things to be involved with here. However, since the site does not always function exactly as it should, if one has a low tolerance for frustration, perhaps this is not the best place to be. I know I've banged my head against the quirks, glitches, hiccoughs, misunderstandings, etc, enough to know that relaxation exorcises and self-care are very important!
Hopefully, Michael, you will change your mind. At any rate, do take care of yourself.

Hi Michael,
Unfortunately, I don't have much experience with the Video feature on Profiles. There's only three things I can think of:
- double check the URL for errors
- Is the video from one of the approved sources?
- Have you made any changes to security settings in your browser or firewall program?

Here's what Care2 had to say about the feature when they first brought it out:
"Video is all over the web these days. But where are they on Care2 Connect? Wouldn't you love to put a video on your MyPage? Of course you would. And guess what... now you can!
Head on over to your MyPage and you'll see a new module in the right column called "My Video". Click the "[edit]" button. Paste in the URL of your favorite video. The video just has to be hosted at one of these sites:
Google Video, YouTube, Jumpcut, Vmix or MySpace Videos."
- and that would be the sum total of instructions I can find about it. I hope this helps. If not, then you may need to send in a Help Form.

Hi Lycia,
As a host, when you view a thread, there is a link at the top "> Show more thread options". When you click that, several settings for threads are visible, including ascending/descending sort order. The buttons are on the right side.

As for images for Comments check this thread for some groups that share graphics, and links to info. Look for the instructions on how to use the "Insert Image" icon/button.

, a lot of things have changed around here.
It seems like your main issue is that when you reply to a thread, you do not have an edit toolbar, yes? This is most likely due to your security settings in your browser and/or firewall. You must enable JavaScripts to run while you are at Care2. Many parts of C2 rely on Javascripts [js, scripts] to run properly.

If you do not know how to enable JS, please post your browser type, operating system and firewall - or send in a Help Request Form to get assistance from C2Support.

to learn of the many new options and features now available at C2, here are a couple key pages to explore:
1. Across the top of C2 pages it says:
"Hi Helen () :: logoff :: email :: my account"
- click 'my account'
- explore the many areas of your account - you have many options here to control how you interact with C2.
2. Familiarize yourself with the two main navigation menu bars:
Home, Connect, News Network, Green Living, ...
and
My Connect, People, Groups, Share, Photos, ...
3. In the "My Connect" menu, click 'My Page'
- Near the top of your profile click 'Edit Profile'
- a page with several orange tabs will open for your exploration - note that you can access these from "my account" as well.
- The Photo tab will allow you to upload an image for your avatar [profile image]. You could also go to your photo album and when you have a photo selected, look in the right column for the 'Make my Profile Photo' link.

When you have uploaded an avatar, and also when you make changes like deleting in your PM center, the page[s] may require Refreshing to show the changes. Click refresh in your browser's menu.

Hi...I was a member here along time ago,and had no problems posting pics in testis,pm's,and forums....but now....there is no menue on any of them....no smilies,no text change,no nothing.....I tried to copy and paste,and still nothing.Is anyone else having this problem or is it just me? What can be done? Hi Colleen,
I guess the layout has changed while you have been away. If you look at the right-hand column of a profile, you will see that Testimonials and Comments each have their own section. They should have a link: "add a comment" or "write testimonial" in their own section. Note that people have different settings on who they will accept these notes from.

First, I need to try make sure I understand:
Group messages = Group Mail, posts from groups arriving in your email inbox?
personal in-box at my homepage Yahoo = you have an email addy with Yahoo?
care2 home page messages = Care2 email, or C2Connect Personal Messaging?

Do you want to change your default email address that Care2 sends notifications and group mail to?
- if yes then:
Across the top of C2 pages it says "Hi Peggy () :: logoff :: email :: my account"
- click 'my account'
- On that page click "Contact info"
- The fifth line allows you to choose which of your email accounts C2 should use as the default: where all related mail is sent.

If you want to change what kind of notifications and mail are sent to your Personal Messaging and email addys:
-From the My Account page, click C2C Notifications
- From the Personal Info page, click on the farthest right orange tab: 'Notifications'
~~You can change many settings on this page, explore it thoroughly. Down at the bottom, you can choose what kind of mail is sent from your groups to your Email. I recommend Daily Digest or Host Announcements Only for most groups.

I have been a member of Care2 for some time, but have been away from it for awhile.  I wanted to send comments/testimonials to friends, but when you click on their profile, that option is no longer there.  I e-mailed Care2 and they told me to come to this group (perhaps they don't know? )

By billboard, if you mean the place on your profile page that is directly below your avatar and description of yourself, then the edit button is just to the right.

To add a picture, the first and formost thing to remember is, that it must be "on the web" somewhere.  Using the photo album here is fine (some like PhotoBucket, etc instead), upload the picture and then you can copy paste it, or if you are familiar with HTML, you can get the source URL and stick that in the Basic Editor.

The message thing first:  If you mean the "network" message, where you can send only to friends and "friends of friends", then clicking on the link that allows you to add names to send to, should bring up a box, and clicking on the letter of the name of the person(s) you wish to send to should give you a list of those persons with that first letter of their name, then clicking on the name, adds it to the send list of the message. You should be able to do this up to 15 persons. Of course, you may have to search around looking for your names, when your list is not yet large.   For friends of friends, the tab at the top of the name box with switch you to them.

There is an ongoing problem with receiving Group email and tracking emails - its possible it is also affecting you C2NN mails. C2 is working on it. If you want to send more information that will help them solve the issue, use the Auto-mail you recieved with your Ticket # to 'Reply' so all the info stays together. External Email Bouncing

If you are not receiving your Care2 Newsletters and/or Group Messages your account may be bouncing. Care2 organizes bounces into two types: Hard Bounce and Soft Bounce

Hard Bounce
If the error message we get back from your email provider says either of the following:

    * your email account does not exist
    * your ISP refuses all email from Care2

...then we consider your account to be "hard bouncing." You will not receive any Care2 email until you notify our support team that your account is still active.

Soft Bounce
If the error message we get back from your email provider doesn't fall under the definition of a Hard Bounce (see above), then the error is considered a Soft Bounce. If your account generates an occasional soft bounce error, it will be logged but no other action will be taken by Care2. However, if your email account consistently generates soft bounce errors for several days, then your account will be considered bouncing. In this case, you will not receive any Care2 email until our support team is notified that your account is still active."

Why don't I receive the news from C2NN any more? June 15, 2007 9:00 AM

I hope that I am doing this correctly. I am really new to this.
I stopped receiving the C2NN Daily News and their Weekly News Summary as well. The last time that I received any email from them was June 5th. I tried to contact them about this on June 12th and I received an automatic response from their customer support. I have had no other response concerning this issue. Can someone let me know what is wrong?

There seems to be some problems with the friends list [many say the numbers fall and rise even tho friends have not been deleted, or hidden their profile]. i haven't heard anything about the problem you mention, tho. I can only suggest you send in a Help Request Form, sorry.

If you can't find a comment that seems to be responsible for the stretching, well, you could send in a Help Request Form if you are that concerned about it. Perhaps C2Tech can find the issue. Compared to many profile pages I've seen, yours is in pretty good shape... hmmm... Keep in mind that monitor resolution affects how much of a page can be viewed without scrolling - Have you changed yours recently? Your page fits perfectly in my viewing area, but then I use a fairly high resolution.

I'm not sure what you mean by "
the previous picture (Animals Matter to Me) has moved out of the box,". There is still a small black and white image 'Animals matter to Me', which is a link, beside 'tell china...'. Is there supposed to be more to it?

Try to make sure you place spaces between pictures and an extra line below images when editing your billboard, as it makes future editing easier. The spaces between pics on the same line allow the editor to move a pic down instead of stretching the page [same as with text].

Since I added the latest picture to my billboard ("click here to Put an end to Tiger Farms") the previous picture (Animals Matter to Me) has moved out of the box,and my page is stretched.

I can't work out how to get the picture back into place.I'm not sure if this is what is stretching the page,it's only a little way over the edge,but I would like to be able to get it back into place.

Hi Jackie,
I think the "click to view Earth Day Every Day" button, or what ever you added last broke your page. If you are unable to edit the billboard to delete the suspect items, then you'll need to send in a Help Request Form asking Care2 to fix it. You can reach a link to the form thru the ">>Help" link in the top right corner of this page. The bottom of the left column is the link to the Help Form. Copy your simple URL from your profile to send on the form, or give them your PID. Tell them specifically what you added last before the page broke.

I hope you can get it fixed soon.

Are you talking about Care2 Email? As in: somebody@care.cam [fictitious, obviously]? Unfortunately, I haven't had C2 email for ages, so I don't know much about how it works. I seem to remember reading in one of the threads here that c2 email didn't allow pictures. Hopefully someone here will know more.

However, if you are talking about using your email program to reply to posts in groups, that could be another story. Then it would depend on your email program, I think.

I am able to send and recieve email ~ and I have even figured out how to insert a 'smiley.' However, although others are able to send an email to me with pictures in them, I have not been able to figure out how to get a picture off my computer and add it to an email.

I would appreciate any assistance with this.

Hi Florika,
Please, don't be put off by the Help Request system. Yes, the first response is always an automated one, just to acknowledge that your Request was received, and is in the queue for attention. Care2 Support tries very hard to respond [real person response] to Requests with in 48 hours. At the moment, however, they may be running a little behind. I've read that they have changed offices, so things are a little chaotic, no doubt.

If you think of any more info that may help C2Support to identify and resolve your issue, please put it in a Reply email, using the email where they gave you the Ticket #.

For me, just above the video, there is an 'edit' button which allows me to change the URL for my profile video. Does that link not appear/work for you?

Hi Angela,
Yes, there has been intermittent problems with scripts not running properly on the Click to Donate pages. I am running Firefox 2, and have not had problems recently. It may have to do with the advertisements on those pages. C2 tech is working on it, and it will help them isolate the problem if you, and everyone experiencing this problem, would submit a Help Request Form, detailing which pages are affected and what happens. The fact that different browsers react differently is valuable information to the Techs. If you can tell them what your security and privacy settings are on the various browsers, that would be a big help. Any error messages, or info from the browser's status line, etc would also help ~ Whatever you can get.

    Has anyone else been having trouble with click to donate? Everytime I click for big cats and sometimes the other ones as well, I get stuck and the click won't go through. Hello Derek,
That's a very good question. I don't know of any special step to activate the billboard. Did you ask your friend if she can see 'My Billboard....edit' on her page? Its possible that if someone has never edited their billboard, then it just doesn't show to visitors.

Perhaps you could suggest for your friend to drop by here, where there are more of us to help, and someone else may learn from the process later. That is the major benefit of these groups - lots of info in one place where people may read and learn.

Have you gone to "Tools"-->"Clear Private Data" at the top? Have you done a reboot?

If your new avatar appears in IE, now, then I imagine your old one's just stuck in FF's cache for the time being. Don't worry, it will cycle out; eventually, you'll see this one all the time :

I tried to change my photo (in fact I've been trying for 2 days) but I still see my old one on my page ( however if you click on that photo you can see the new one) I read care2 help but I don't understand - "The reason is that our system is designed to save images in a cache for easier future viewing." - does it mean that everybody will see my old picture all the time? For my old comments, blogs, news etc. it has sense but in these new ones?? I really tried all tricks - refreshing, delating cookies

I tried to answer yesterday, but I lost my net connection There isn't a quick-click method of using your own pictures for the background on your profile, or group themes. It is possible to make it happen, but it involves preparing a few versions of your pic, and some considerable patience. You have to send it to the C2 graghic artist, and she makes the final layout and adds it to the themes list as and when she has time. If you are interested in proceding, let me know and I will get the specifics for you.

As far as I know, at this time we can not choose to remove modules from our Connect Main page. You can choose not to receive notifications in your PM about news and shares comments. From your PM page, click 'Settings' and open the orange 'Notifications' tab. There are many choices you can make there to tailor your C2 experience to your prferences.

Unfortunately, I don't know much about C2mail, or the Share books. At this point, Care2 email does not interact with the Personal Messaging system within C2. There have been hints it may come along with one of the upgrades one day. Personal messaging is largely based on using the Friends and Friends of Friends lists. However, it is possible to PM people who are not on your list. Although the original Introduction is limited to 250 characters, all replies based on it, in both directions, are unlimited and have full editing features.

As I understand it, copy and paste [or drag'n drop] should work from emails to PM's or Share books. Give it whirl and see what happens

Hi all, I have an email on care2, its the free account,snail.mail, where you can go to the care2 homepage and click on email in the top left corner......My question is...Is there a way to send mail to my friends on care2 with this account, can I add their names like it is on my messages. Also, When I send something from my personal account to snail mail,,such as really cute animal pictures, Is there a way to transfer them to my share book?

It will not let me do that either. My ingenious idea now means I have nothing and am not quite sure what to do. Unfortunately there has been a rash of problems with images: red Xs, Avatars not updating or changing unexpectedly. C2 is working on these problems. Usually, these problems, including the Edit feature on Profile billboards are intermittant, and seem to sort themselves out in time.

Hopefully, you have already learned this, and are not having these issues anymore. However, if you are still having difficulties, please submit a Help Request Form to C2 tech. For more info on that system, check out "
Tips on using the Help Request Form".

This past week I have hit "edit" to change my billboard. It has always worked easily before, now it just takes me to codes inside the little edit box. I can not see anything, I cannot tell what I need to take off, or move, or add. Have I done something wrong? Hi folks... My profile picture mysteriously changed from the one I was using to a picture from my album. I’ve tried to change it back but without any luck. I’m no stranger to changing my profile picture on Care2 and I’ve tried everything I can think of such as deleting cookies etc but nothing seems to work. I thought I’d cracked it when I found a new picture which appeared to download ok but although it’s shown on my profile page the previous unwanted picture still appears in the forums (despite refreshing), and it also shows on any new posts I make… I’m confused… Any ideas?

Well, on my computer at home, I don't use outlook nor express, I used Thunderbird until my FireWall had issues with it. Now I just use Earthlink's box.  My work email is Outlook however and to access it from home, I must use a version of IE v.5+ (I have v.7). I have found no other browser that is compatable with the interface (and I tried F.F., (Mozilla) Flock, Opera, TB, Netscape,  and etc.

Has something to do with the cert. I believe.

It was nice of one of the hosts to invert this thread once it got longer, wasn't it? It works well for some threads, although with others its best if people do work their way thru threads to look for the info they need.

Of course, with your issue, earlier posts aren't much use. Unfortunately, I don't know what is happening with email - I assume you mean Care2 email. I don't use it, so I can't check it out. I haven't seen others having problems with C2 email, but there have been issues today with strange error codes on various pages. It may be that with Valentine's Day the email is a little overloaded - that's not too unusual. It can affect a day or two before and after as well.

As you determined for yourself, how your resources on your computer are being used can affect access to services like email. That was good thinking, to close down excess windows and programs. I use Mozilla Firefox with windows XP, and I haven't encountered any problems worth bailing over. I'll take FF over IE, anyday, anywhere.

I have been using MSIE version 7 since it came out as a beta, and have recently upgraded to the "working" version   I need this to access my work emails without having any special equipment. The only problem the new "tabbed" IE gives me is concerning certificates that have not been "updated" or are redirected because of co. mergers or moves, etc.  I can easily get around it, but it is a bit of an annoyance....but then, I can not access that portion of Outlook without IE  
  I use firefox as an experimental "working with/playing with" browser, since it is easier to work with that way.

Well it seems I discovered a little issue that interferes with the e-mail account and likely has other interesting consequences! When I'm doing a fair amount of posting, in discussions plus blogs I'm writing and other things like PM's and I'm accessing the smilies a lot I have a habit of leaving the file open but residing on my lower file bar of my browser... after a while that seems to create issues and can even slow down my system! The e-mail issue corrected itself immediately after I closed the smilie file!

BTW I use Mozilla's Firefox so I KNOW, I KNOW it isn't as happy working with Care2 - but I really don't enjoy using IE and will continue to find work arounds rather than switch. I can't upgrade to IE's most secure new version - I run Windows 2000 and they don't seem to want to offer to replace that or upgrade it so it would be compatible!
If anyone's knows if Microsoft is gonna get kinder about that do let me know!

My question concerns today, as we type... Is there something wrong with the e-mail accounts?

I get my internal messages fine but can't seem to get to my e-mail!

It's been weird and wonky all day it seems, well so has the site in general off and on today.
I didn't see anything new posted in Care2 notices and assumed if there was a message about "downage" it would be there.

Any ideas, are other people expressing problems?

Hi Susan,
Yes, you are quite right, the Stickies can only be used in the Comments area. The billboard is great for showcasing your photos [be aware that they are not protected from being copied], writing about what is important to you, providing links to whatever. Basically, it is your chance to decorate your page, making it say something about you to the people who visit.

When providing links, I suggest that you type text, like the name of a website, then select the Name and use the Hyperlink button on the toolbar [icon looks like a chain] to make the text an active link, by copying the URL of the website into the box it provides. Most URLs are too long and will stretch a page. In the case of your billboard, an object that is too wide can 'break' your page; sometimes this just means stretching it, sometimes it means the billboard will not work properly.

Hi, I have been trying to create my billboard on my home page, when I click on it the window comes up and insert the code for the stickie, when I click save, it goes back to create billboard. Am I missing a step here? There are a couple of badges I would like to have showing but haven't a clue what is wrong. Is there somewhere else that would show at least one of the images?

Yes, its possible for people sharing a computer to have separate Care2 accounts. Its my understanding that they must each have a unique, verifiable E-mail address to establish separate accounts. Hello Me T,
To change your address in your profile info, go to your profile ['My Page' tab]. Near the top left, under your name click a link called 'Edit Profile'. that will open a page with several tabs. Click the tab called 'Contact Info' and you will see where your address can be changed. Be sure to scroll down to the bottom to click the 'Save Changes' button.

Note that some Info can be set to be visible to Everyone, Only Friends of Friends, only Friends, or Nobody - that's the little Eye icon to the right of the field. I suggest caution about how much real information you share about yourself on the internet.

Hi Golda,
For your Outlook issue, it may be the password for your email program, or IP server - Care2 email, or Hotmail, or your cable or phone company depending what kind of connection you are using. So there's a chance both passwords are the same if you use Care2 email. If its a password for outlook; your computer; or your IP server; - if an administrator or tech person set up you software, they may be able to help you recover your password. Your IP server [cable or phone] may have a system set up with a hint to help you remember your password for their service.

As for your password to login at Care2, you probably need to submit a Help Request Form and provide the url to your profile, and the default email addy you used to set up your account here. If you look up near the top right of the page the Help link will lead you to the Help Form.

I hope this helps, rather than confuses the issue ...

Simple, basic question here:

How do I figure out what my password is if I have forgotten it?  I must be talking about an email password.  A box popped up this morning wanting to import email addresses from my Outlook to Care2 - which is great but I don't seem to know the password.

Then I noticed that if I get logged off of Care 2, I don't have that password either and can't  figure out how to get it figured out.  Aarg!!  It would be a shame to be locked out.  Any suggestions on either front?

Peggy, I'm glad you can access your page again. apparently this was a problem for a bit, and C2tech has addressed it. Ronnell, I hope yours is back too.

Jackie, are you still getting the emails or did they stop after a couple of days? I hope that is the case: sometimes there is a lag between changing settings and the change coming into effect. If they are still coming, what kind of notifications are they? Which settings did you change?

On each of the Race pages, there are links to 'reminders', 'settings' and/or 'spread the word'. Each one is a little different. In the reminders or settings you may find a place to shut off some notifications. In Spread the Word, you should find the Invitations form, with links to the code for adding buttons to emails or webpages.

Blair, there doesn't seem to be any definition or standard for "new members" - is there any particular reason you are asking?

I have two questions.

1 - HOW do I get it to stop flooding my gmail (not care2) inbox with stupid notifications that I clicked to donate?  Yeah, I'm aware that I did that; stop sending me emails to tell me about it.  It's really annoying me.  I turned off all the notification crap under my account settings and it didn't help.

2 - Can you still post those click-to-donate buttons on your own blog?  They used to have an HTML code for that, but I can't find it.

Pam, I have had that happen occassionally too. I have yet to discover why, or how to stop it from happening. It seems to go away, just as it came. Sorry I have nothing more constructive to offer. Perhaps someone else will have something else to offer.

Gypsy, the only stupid question is the question not asked - in my experience! As far as i know, No, there is no way to add a comment to more than one person's page at a time. You can, however send a personal message [PM] to more than one person on your lists at a time... not quite the same effect though.

I've inserted emoticons into comments on friends'pages before,with no problems,but now ,although doing exactly the same thing,they are not showing up!

For instance,if I type asterisk(the symbol,not the word,)then ,say, "hug", asterisk,when I click preview,that is exactly what is showing - the asterisk hug  asterisk.

Hi Peggy!

There are a couple of unfortunate design flaws; in the birthday reminder system it assumes that you have access to addys; and in the inability for Ecards to work with PM at this time. In the early days, it seems that Care2 innocently believed that all members would want to share email addresses with everyone else. They have since learned, that many members prefer to keep their emails private and use the PM system for C2 comms. Apparently, they are working on a way to improve the Ecard use within C2.

So, to answer your question, finally, there is no list or address book type thing for emails. Either you and your friends need to choose to exchange emails, or in some cases, people may make an addy available on their Profile, in the Contact section.

Care2 had implimented a section labeled "Recent visitors". It was located on the homepage onthe right hand side just under "Newest members" which meant it was viewable by everybody. However there was such a fus about it that Care2 took it off There was talk of having it in the host's management console but as far as I know they haven't put it there.

I do know that I've seen people say that they can track others by using the ISP/IP adresses but ti would be a host only thing, it would be anybody who is techy enough to do it or had a program to do it

Ok, I've looked everywhere I can think of & couldn't find the answer anywhere. If I'm duplicating this again, I apologise. I need to find where to change the options for my group notifications. Since I'm in several now, I need to cut back on who I get them from. When I signed up for the groups, I chose to recieve everything as it was updated. How can I change that & where do I look for it? if you only knew how far Care2 has come in the 8 years I've known it! It started out so small, and has been growing so fast the developers haven't been able to keep up! C2 always seems to have upgrades planned and in process. Yes, there is still enormous potential here, and they are always happy to have input from us members. However, what you won't see here is any attempt to become like MySpace - in fact the members protest any move in that direction. Occassionally, C2 offers a survey to gather input on their plans, as well as new ideas. Check out the C2 site Notices for an idea of the most recent changes.

If you would like to submit suggestions, the way to contact them is through the Help Request Form. Help is accessed thru the link in the top right of the page 'Help'. If you have any trouble with it, there is a tips thread for it here in the red pinned area.

As for the look of your profile page, the main way to individualize is to design your Billboard. However, you can also submit your own pictures to be made into a theme. I will look into whether there is a more direct method of doing that than the Help Form.

and it's extremly difficult to figure things out here.

i do help run webpages...this one could use a lot of help.

and is there anyway to edit the profile apperance by yourself, without having to use the "premade" themes?

Hi Peggy! To remove images from your billboard, click the Edit button - remember to scroll down to find the editting box. Inside the box, click on an image who's time is done, and press Del on you keyboard or right click and choose delete. If it is time to start your billboard from scratch, you can wipe the slate clean by clicking the Clear button. When you preview, you must once again scroll down to find the editting box is still open. Remember to save when you are done.

All of a sudden when I post a graphic into a friends comment box I get this strange code it looks something like this I am using the TV looking box in the comment box just like the one here and using the url code from photobucket should I be doing something different?

Hello everyone!!!! I have a problem,I have been trying to post at my groups and everything went fine....but for some unknown reason.....when I wanted to send some stars  as I clicked  there was a pop out "internet explorer cannot find www.care2....blablabla.  no acsess  I am really confused... and even though  I can logg on care2 ....I  don't know why this is going on..... Peggy, you are not alone! this is an on going problem that the engineers are working on.

btw, I see a white puppy on a white backround here, and for your large version, but a tan puppy with green and purple on your profile page. Which one do you want to use?

As it says on the upload page, the image must be less than 500KB in size. what it doesn't say is that its best to use a square pic that can be reduced to 60x60 pixels as well as to 150x150 pixels. Upload it directly from your computer. afterwards use the refresh or reload button on your browser. some say that cleaning out cookies and cache and temp files also help.

I'm sorry, I can't concentrate right now. try this and see if it helps. Let us know. If not, we'll try something else and/or you may need to report it in a Help Request Form.

I have a question pertaining to our profile photo.  I uploaded a new one then changed my mind and kept refreshing to try and get the new one...now the frog is back and I've tried to upload 3 different graphics.  I wonder if the jpegs are not equal to what is suppose to be.  I don't know what else to do...except try and upload the last graphic that I know will work.  Are there any special keyboard keys I can use to help with putting the picture on my billboard page?

Hello Marie! I'm not sure what's going on there. I know it has happened to others but I thought it was fixed.
First, check your 'sent' folder to see if the message was sent even though it doesn't appear to have.
Second, try adding your self to the 'To' list. Make sure you have incuded the subject as well as your message.
Third, try this both with and without using the preview button to see if it makes any difference. I'm fairly sure you can ignore the multiple addressees and/or red X's that appear at the 'To' line in preview. that is a known bug that apparently does nothing untoward.

Again, check the Sent folder to confirm whether its been sent.

If none of this helps, you will probably need to send in a Help Request Form through the Help section.

Hello Peggy! I can offer some tips, but perhaps not the detail you'd like. This is because I do not use the 'friends' list. There are a few ways to invite people.

From the group's homepage: click the 'Invite your Friends' button. It will ask you if you want to use your Friends list, or email address book to make the invites. Follow the instructions from there.

From your Friends list: Open your personal messaging  and click compose. Click the link at the 'To' line and it will open a blue box lisitng your friends alphabetically. You can select up to 10 at a time. Write a message about why you think this person will enjoy this group.
Or: Click on your friend's image to go to their profile page. Click 'introduce yourself' to write a short note.

Shares: You can send out such info thru shares, but i know nothing about the process yet.

Hi, I'm pretty new here, and I'm having problems sending messages. I receive them ok, but when I try to send one I get Notice: you must provide a body. And the message I had composed has been erased. It seems like the address is correct, although a lot of times I can't see the whole name, just bits of the letters. Is this a something I'm doing/not doing, or is it a bug in the system? Hi Juanita! I'm glad things got working for you, one way or another! I should have mentioned there is still some unfortunate lag time in the delivery. There was also a stall-out in the mail system, and I think maybe it still happens a little bit now and again, so emails can arrive in waves, rather than the steady flow they probably should be.

Hi Jean, I'm sorry it's still not working for you. have you read this thread: "Posting Graphics or Pictures in Posts", it contains a number of tips and workarounds for posting problems. That and this one: "Using the message features" also describe some other methods for inserting the pics. You are also welcome to start a new thread and describe the specifics of the problem. its quite possible we can work thru this. Its also possible its a new glitch, or a code problem on your account that needs to be reported to c2 for fixing.

Hello OleGreyMike! I'm curious what firefox problem you are refering to? i use firefox, and I haven't run into anything serious.

You need to set your mail preferences. Go to your profile => edit => Notifications. down at the bottom is a list of your groups, and the choices. Note that Individual Emails option is not quite the same as the old tracking topics feature - this one will send every post from a group to your inbox, as individual emails. Its great for slow groups, but could be trouble with big, busy groups. Apparently there are more changes to the tracking system on the way, so stay tuned.

I'm not sure what you mean - inserting two graphics into a post at the same time? is that right? I know of no way to do that. You can however place images side by side in a post or billboard by using spaces between the insertion points, and making sure the images are not too wide. Other than that, I have no idea.

Are you refering to writing a comment on a person's profile Page? Although there have been some issues with comments, it doesn't sound like yours is the same. i was able to post a comment on someone's page just a few minutes ago.
If you are having problems with inserting a graphic in a comment it may be that the box is the wrong size and is hiding the save button. After you have entered the url try pressing the TAB button on your keyboard to navigate down through the buttons until it lands on Save or OK. If this doesn't work, you may need to submit a Help Request form to the tech department. There's a thread about that in this group.

As for the changes to the profile page, its part of the upgrade to improve 'people surfing' as they call it. it is now easier to find people with the same interests etc. Your info was always available [if you didn't limit visibility in Edit] to anyone who clicked the tabs on your profile, now its just visible with less effort.
Yes, it would be great if they gave us some warning, and instructions. but I guess they are just not that omnipotent, and we have to fumble our way thru as best we can. Fortunately we are all here to help eachother.

Hi since the new up grade as of 16 October I cannot send side bar comments to anyone when the box opens in which you put the url there is not send feature with the box and if I hit the send button on the bottom which was never there before it takes me to a once again blank comment page. Also why were the changes made to the home page displaying all of your info. I do not appreciate this change. It would be nice if when these changes are made if a notice of some kind were sent out with how to adopt the new changes instead of just leaving everyone in the dark!

When I receive Stars I get an email notification; but when I send them I get no notification.

Is there an option to turn on to be notified when I send a Green Star ?  I am very forgetful and think it would be nice to have a reference for future use of the Stars I send.

If not, is there a place to make change recommendations to CARE2?
 
 I tried communicating using the feedback forms in the past and never heard back from anyone.

If you look at the defination of a green star that they give...
"What is a Green Star? It's a simple "Thank You" from a Care2 member."
When someone thanks you do you say thanks in return? no you say "you're welcome"  Maybe they need to make something like a yellow flower (to say "You're Welcome") to the green star senders

courtesy can not be regulated or forced by rules. One can send a TY note, or a return star as many do, OR just be glad someone acknowledged you, as many of us do not require "thank you's" (tis why I send out so many annonymous stars).

No you're not hopeless we just have to figure this out.

Just to be sure lets go through the steps...
Click on the "My Connect" tab (the first blue tab)
Then on the right hand side close to the top you'll see 2 list side by side under the "My Page" heading.
The 3 listed on the right are
906 Green Stars
26 Butterflies
38 Testimonials
Your numbers will be different... click on the last one "testimonials"
The ones waiting to be approved will be listed first with 2 buttons at the bottome to either [Approve] or [Reject]
Under that are all the testimonials you've already approved, listed by most recent.

If you've done all this already sorry but just trying to make sure first.


What I meant by "generic" is that only your profile and the groups have "themes" (colors and pictures you can choose) all the other pages (My groups, My connect, etc) the colors are chosen by Care 2... so it probably won't be the same as your profile

You all probably got your answers but I will try to answer anyway (just in case)

Isabelle... When you track a topic... every time someone posts it's suppose to send a copy of it to your e-mail addy (text only). If you go to "edit profile" on the "Contact Info" tab... you will see "Alternate Email:" and the box beside it will have the Email you used to join Care 2. Under it you'll see "Default Email:" and 2 options "Care 2 email" or "Alternate Email" If you don't have a Care 2 email box then it automatically goes to the alternate email box but f you have a Care 2 email box, you can select it. Which ever one you select is the one that the tracking (and notifications) will be sent to.     Sometimes there are Glitches here at care 2 and, not getting the tracking or getting multiple of the same post, are a couple of the glitches.


Drakaina... I'm pretty sure this is just a glitch in the system and should have already been corrected but if you're still having trouble let me know.


Tony... Someone did have that problem before but I can't remember the solution or find the thread I don't think that removing them is permanent... so I would try it


Margaret... When you say you can't view it... do you mean there is a little box (with a red X or something) ? If so that means there was something wrong with the image tag that the person sending you the testimonial inserted. Or is it just not there (the whole testimonial... the person it came from's profile pic and all)?
No other page looks like your profile page... they are all "generic"

I co-host a closed group. One of our members can no longer enter the group for some reason... so far we don't know why. She can get as far as 'knocking on the door' but can't get in.

The question is...If we removed her from the group would she be able to rejoin or is removal irreversible?... Of course it would be dead cool if one of you guys has come accross this problem before and could point us in the direction of where the problem might lay.

C.C.,  as strange as it may seem, once you "apply" the change, and the screen comes back,  click on "refresh" (or reload, if you use Firefox).  Once that is finished, it should be there. The only time it wouldn't be, is if it were too big a picture or if it were the wrong format; but then, it wouldn't appear the next day in that case either

I may be wrong, but I know it has been asked before and I don't know of anyway. So I am going to say at this time you can't be notified.

But maybe in the future it will be an added feature.

You could say in your photo comment area that you love comments and would like them to be e-mailed or sent via network message since you don't recieve a notification from the photo album comment area. And you don't wish to miss any. Just a thought?

I go to People and there is a question like, "What is your favorite TV show?"  If you click on Law & Order, you will get a list of all the people on Care2 who also chose that.  Then somewhere I read that you can tag your profile I think.  Does that incude you in lists of people who like the same things as  you?  And how do you do that?  Or is it automatically done by Care2?

Also, I was a member of a group that was open when I joined.  The host has since closed the group and now I am blocked from it because even though there is a box saying that I have been accepted by the host, there is no Enter button to click to get into the group with.  I have written to the host but received no answer as yet.  I have done nothing to be excluded so I don't understand what happened unless it is a glitch that happened during the conversion.

There is no way to send an E-Card to people on your friends list directly unless you happen to have their email address. The way around this is to send the card to yourself, and then paste the E-Card URL into a network message to the person. Bear in mind that doing this does reveal the email address you used to the person you send the card to.

Is anyone else having problems accessing their Introductions section of care2? For instance, a person wants to meet you and you get an email stating the fact. You click the link on the email and it just goes to a blank white screen. At the bottom left it just says done, or even if I click the other access point from the my care2, the people waiting to meet you, it does the same thing. So, has anyone had this happen and if so, how did you take care of the problem?

Delete and Notify means that the other person gets a message that you declined their offer of friendship.

Delete and Block means that if they try to continue to tell you that liking the color purple is vastly important to them ... yah dah da... they will get a polite note stating that the address they mailed to (you) is not accepting messages from their address

If you just want them to go away quitely - "deleate" ... no notice, no harm, no foul

That should be the case.  If you sent the message to 10 people and one person sent a reply to you, the message that you get will say that it was sent to 11 people even though it was only sent to you.

(I know that I'm repeating another post, but this issue makes so little sense that I think repetition actually helps in this instance.)

AND, if you get a message that appears to be a private reply with a HUGE number 2222 + for example; do not assume that the reply went to that many, ususally it is a reply from one of the original people it was sent to back to the first poster ...

I put a number in front of the description (01>) then sort them by description

Do you mean the order that your albums appear or the order of photos within an album? You cannot re-order the albums themselves, but you can move the photos aroud.

Under Edit Album, click on the 'sort order' and set the Manual sort order (or select whichever of the sort options you prefer). To manually sort the photos after selecting Manual sort order, go back to the main page of the album, and click on the 'Edit Photos Order'.

Go to Network Messaging

Click on  Compose

write your note

chose send to Friends and/or FOF

Click Submit....

WARNING... if the system appears to 'time out' before the message is sent - go to "SENT" messages first to see if it was really sent.

When viewing a thread that you want to 'pin', simply click on the link 'Show More Thread Options' at the very top of the thread in order to access these and other thread features. You can also set threads so they will not be archived after 30 days (otherwise threads that are not posted on for 30 days will be added to the 'archives' of your group), change the order of posts from oldest at the top to newest at the top, or set the thread so that only group hosts can post to it.

The pins are used to keep important topics or thread from disappearing to the bottom of the discussion list.

A red pin will 'pin' the thread to the group home page. This means that it will always be at the top of the sampling of threads that are listed on that page. You are limited to 10 red pinned threads.

A blue pin will 'pin' the thread to the discussion list. This means that when you click on the 'View All Topics' list, the thread will always appear at the top of that list. There is no limit to the number of blue pins you can use.

Hey guys!

To move a photo:
Go to Gallery, then click on the album it's in, then click on the thumbnail.
THis brings you to the "big picture" on the right side of the page there is a "photo menu" in the list you will see "move photo" click on it. Now choose the "destination" (which album you want to move it to) from the pull down menu. Than click the [move] button just beneath it.

To delete and album:
go to your gallery and click on the album.
On the right side there is a "album menu". In the list click on "delete album". it will bring up a page with all your albums listed. They all have little boxes next to them. The one you were in when you clicked on "delete album" should already be checked. Put checks by all you want to delete then scroll to the bottom and click the [Delete] button.

Right now you can't see a list of everyone in the group. However, as the group host, you can see a list of recently approved members. This list goes back several months, so you would see anyone who joined in that time. To access this list, go into the group management console, then select Applicant Approval below Member Management. Then click on Recently Approved Applicants to see the list.

look on you keyboard, usually just above the F10 button you will find a "print screen" button..... that is what many people mean when they say they have done a pic of the computer screen.

I just checked your profile... I show 37 people in your network, and the "people circle as I call it" shows One blue silloutte  when I view it as I am one of those friends (it will show two shadow people - a blue and an orange one if not a friend) ;...

Rebecca, that is odd.  I looked at your profile and it says 36 friends and 0 in the network, so it is on their end.  But then it may be one of their counter problems (I have "3 network messages" but I might not have any or I might have 55, same with Email counter). try and add me to your friends, and see if that helps - then log out and log in again. Some of these 'features' are like some software that you install, you have to 're-start the PC' for them to work. Maybe it works if you log out from Care2 and then log in and re-load your profile and C2C page.

Maybe check to your profile, go to edit your profile, and then to notifications and make sure under the e-mail tracking the group isn't still listed there and checked?

I have a problem that I need some help with.  While I am not new to care2, I still use it mainly to check email.  Which is where my problem is.  I used to be a member of a certain group.  I went into the group and clicked on unjoin.  However I am still receiving email from the group.  I cannot get back in to the group since I am no longer a member.  How can I stop reeiving email from this group?  Please help.

the instructions say I can use any pic in my albumn, and this is one that it allowed me to upload into my albumn.  It has been in there with my "mug shot" for a few days now. It just doesn't seem to like it as a profile photo (maybe cavey noses are taboo ?).  [ send green star]  [ accepted]

lol then my guess is the pic isn't one you can use.

You can upload a JPG or GIF file only. (Maximum size of 500KB)

Check to see if it meets all of that. If so then I don't have a clue lol.

No Mike its just on different pages that haven't been refreshed yet. I was having the same problem with others pics. In one group they have one pic and in another group a different pic lol. Talk about confusing? But once I refreshed that page it showed the new one

It could be that is why. Sometimes it just is likes to be stubburn though lol. Make sure its not too large in size and the right kindof image that you can upload first. If that is right then just wait alittle bit and then hit refresh and it should be the picture you want.

Diana when you go to your profile the button says this is how your profile looks to everyone. If you go through your profile then only the info that will be displayed to everyone will be showing. Now change it to friends and look through your profile it should show different info if you set it up right.

Your profile will always be the same just that if you ahve it set to only show personal info to friends then others will just get an empty spot there.

But at the top where it says everyone, yes that is there on everyones profile and it always says everyone. Just to show you how it looks to everyone

I hope I explained that right lol.

OK here's the problem. Maybe you could test it for me Gayle.  My personal contact information is set for eyes of friends only but the little button thingy on the profile page is stuck on everyone and I don't know if that would allow my info to be seen by....everyone.

If this is something that is happeneing to other people also maybe that's how personal info in leaking out.

he is correct, you can set different options - such as "contact"  so that only friends may view your email address or website ... or fof or everyone ... then when you have finished editing your profile; use that option bar to see what is viewable to?

Ok, now I am confused.   I had changed my "profile photo" once, from my own pic to that peace jpeg that is there now.

   I have not been able to change it again, and I am not certain why.   I have followed the directions given to "make this your profile photo" but to no avail.

It is not possible to only have your profile viewable by friends. I believe that you are getting confused by the feature in the profile view page where you can choose to see how your profile appears to Friends, Friends of Friends, or anyone. There are certain portions of your account profile (age for example) that you can choose who you would like to be able to see it. However, your profile is visible to all Care2 Connect members. The drop down list from the My Profile page just allows you to preview what your profile looks like to each type of person (friends, friends of friends, everybody else).

I'm not real new but I tried to change my profile so that it was only visible to friends of friends and it won't stay changed in spite of many refreshes and going out and coming back in several times etc.  I thought someone here might know if there is anything else I can do as it is the weekend again and probably many hours before I can get an answer through the Care2 network or feedback group.  [ send green star]  [ accepted]

Hello Yeah I think 90% of the time when I send a netmessage it does the same thing. Just reload to Care2 go back to your netmessages and click the tab which says sent messages. If it is there then that means it did go through. Which it always is for me.

hmm I am not sure about other people getting your message. it may just have clicked more people then you wanted to send it to. I suggest when you wish to send to only one person do it through their profile or their group's contact host button that would probably help.

Oh yes I hate it when I get doubles and triples of messages. I don't have a clue why this happens but I have 2 guesses:
1. The person like what happens to us, it messes up sending it and instead of checking their sent messages they resend it.
2. The send one message clicking on the box send to friends and then they resend the message clicking on the box send to friends of friends. Not realizing that your friends will get the message both times and if you wish to send it to everyone just click on the box friends of friends.

Or it could just be a weird fluke lol

I just went and re-check the situation, I am listed on her list of Friends. She is still not listed on mine, and when I checked her profile the option to invite her is gone. Everything else is listed on her profile, except that option to invite her to my list.
After checking my own profile, I have no options listed at all on my profile. I think that's normal, isn't it when I viewing my own. right?

I took your suggestion to send you a invite to my friends list. So you should be receiving it shortly. I'm not sure what's wrong here. So I'll just relax, and see what you can come with, alright?

re-invite you, and you accepted her invitation - you should both be listed on each other's friendslist. Unless you accidently clicked the 'decline' button.

Regardless of whether she sent you a new introduction or just added you to her friendslist - the two first options on your profile when she viewed it - and provided you accepted her request - you should be on her list and she should be on your's.

I know I am repeating myself, but I want to be sure you understand.

Am I on your friendslist? If I am, delete me, and tell me you did so, then just add me again and we should see how it works, ok - if I am not on your list - invite me, and we will take the procedure from there - ok?

I want to Thank You Once Again for helping me, to learn how to upload pictures in my post.  Now, I have a new question please? 

I've made a error, that seems like can't be corrected. On my profile page, it lists my friends. People who want to meet me, and then new people in my area, that I would like to meet. We'll I contacted a few, and received no reply. So I deleted them, and in so doing I mistakenly deleted one of my friends. Now I can't seem to re-invite her onto my list again. Although, when I initially deleted her from my list, by mistake. It also deleted me from hers.  Once, I explained what happened to her, she was able to re-invite onto her list.  Now I listed on hers, and can't seem to re-invite back onto mine.  Hope I have'nt confused or driven you crazy. LOL 

Please, if you can:  "HELP!"

Start by clicking the link that says 'my account'. It's right beside a light blue tab saying 'Get Togethers' at the almost top right of the screen.

Click that 'my account' link and you will be taken to a page that says 'Basics' at the far left, and then there's a row of orange tabs ->

Click the one that says 'Notifications'. Now you are taken to a page that says 'Notifications' on the far left, and there's that row of orange tabs again.

Just below that row of orange tabs is a 'BOX' over which it says:

Care2 Connect Notifications

There's one first about what kind of notifications you want to receive - then there's this:

I want to receive Network Messages from:

Only friends
Only friends and friends-of-friends
Anyone

Simply click the the radio-button that says 'Only friends'.

Now you will not get any mail from that abusive person...

This may seem kinda dumb, but how do you know exactly when posts were made?  I can see where it gives the date on some threads, but on others it has just a day of the week or the time.  There are some posts that I would be interested in replying to, but I don't want to be dredging up something that everyone else was finished with a month ago, lol!!

I wish that you could block one person.  Unfortunately we can't do that as of yet (crossing my fingers for the future).  One thing that you can do is to block messages from friends of friends, and only allow your friends to send messages to you.  It is something that you can change in your settings.  [ send green star]  [ accepted]

It does work in IE and in Firefox though as I have both of those.

For turning it on in your own groups:

Click on your  Group Management Console

Go to General Settings

Go to Discussion Forum Settings

mark the boxes that say:

 Replace special characters like with emoticons.

 Allow members to insert basic HTML tags in discussion posts.

Hi Raven, I had heard that the toolbar in the reply screen is not available for Mac users, is this true? I had a look at the link you provided above and nothing like that shows in any group I belong to, including my own! Others insert things so I know it is turned on in the groups I belong to, but not sure about mine, where do I go to make sure it is turned on in case any member wants to use it? I use Safari browser, but do have IE also, I came onto Care2 with IE to see if that made a difference, but no! to find a storage place on-line, such as Photobucket

It's free, all you need is a valid email addy.

So, first you download/scan the picture unto you harddrive - then you upload to you Photobucket account, and then you use the FIRST link given right below the pic in Photobucket, the one that says 'Url' followed by a box with an Url in it. You copy that by right clicking on it and then just paste it into the Insert Image Tool in the Tool box at the top of the Editor Window in a C2 thread...

if you turn on topic tracking, that means that you will receive an email copy of each post to that thread (or group depending on what you select). The email is sent to whatever is the default email address for your Care2 account. You can check your default address here:

There is no option for audio cues for incoming emails. i am not sure that it would really be possible since the email is web-based. I don't think Internet Explorer or other browsers would support that. The only notifications are the envelope icons that appear on the My Care2 Connect page and the Care2 Homepage.

there is no option for seeing someone is online...

You can click on the track topic link on a topic, and you will recieve emails everytime someone adds to the thread, also, threads that have just been posted on show up on your my c2c page, and the top of you my groups page!
