New Members need to be told the importance of clicking March 18, 2005 8:13 PM
Hello New members--Welcome to 1 of the most powerful Activists sites in the world, I hope you have been told about the importance of clicking to donate on care2, it is free and it is a well worth cause, Care2 has grown quite a bit since i have joined, the total is almost 4.7 Million Members World wide, but few to many members click to donate, the numbers are about 10,000 click per site on the donation page, those number are sad, considering the size of our membership, so please help out by clicking to donate daily--Thanks Philip.

Anyhow, I'm a Dalmnation, and a Starfish and I've reached Sea Level regarding breast cancer (thought I'd better click as mine are bigger than some of my girl friends!!)
Would like to see other neglected health causes included. Cancer and Parkinsons appear to be "in mode" but many other heart tearers are neglected!!
Any chance of opening a choice of other ailments Care2?

Yes it is so important to click everyday alot of people forests and animals depend on us to be there voice and help them, and it takes less than 2 minutes a day.

I click just about every time that I am at Care2, and I've never recieved any spam from it. It is a great thing to do and it works. The sponsors (ads) on the pages have determined to donate a certain amount for each click that the cause receives. So while it is free for all of us clickers, the businesses actually donate money. And, if you like that they do that, you can click on the ads and it should take you to their site where you could purchase from them. This is also helpful, as they know where you linked from and it encourages them to continue sponsoring.

The links for each click to donate page can be added to personal website. On my site I have the care 2 banner on it linked to the click to donate first page. (if that made any sense) I LOVE TO CLICK. I have Missed a few days but try to remember on a daily basis.

Heey everyone I agree totally I click everyday myself. I try not miss it. Its also being promoted on my group to click everyday. Every little bit counts And add up to a whole lot.
I do not know if all are aware of this, but on the Oceans page, there is a
FREE "CLICK TO HELP TWICE AS MUCH" tab
3048 clicks today
And if you don't like the email alerts, remember that you can always delete them when you get them, worth a couple of seconds to be able to donate twice as much, I think anyway
I am very new to this site! I found it the other day and I have been checking it out since then. I admit though that I am a tad uncertain about some of the things invovled in it. There is sooo much that I have yet to discover and I am afraid that one of those things is this click it thing. I'm still trying to maneuver the groups, petitions, and whatever these little stars, butterflies, etc things are! So if you can please excuse my ignorance...... could someone explain to me what you all are talking about? Thank you! Have a great day! Peace!

Kat ... the "clicking" .... April 04, 2005 10:18 PM
Welcome Kat ... there are two ways to find the "daily free click sites" we are discussing - first is the Care2 main page - on the far left side under your signin information there is an area titled: Click to Donate:
There you will find nine causes that you can contirbute to for FREE Every day you can click for these causes and, if you choose, also read the daily action.
The other way to get there is by selecting either the Care2Connect or "My Care2Connect" tab at the top of the page. There you will find an area on the far left and at the bottom of the first section is "My Kudos when you click on that, and then Butterflies, you will see clickable words such as "races" and "actions" .... those also will that you to the daily click sites or races. IMO, this is one of the best things Care2 does - they get sponsors to donate $$ for these causes just because we "click"
Did this help or did I overwhelm you ???? It is after 1 am here so I am just a little loopy
Hi there! I just wanted to say thank you Gayle for the information on the clicking to help. I am going to keep that bit of information until I have it all figured out. If I am understanding you correctly, this is a bunch of sponsers that donate when you click on this particular link. That's cool! I will do my best to make sure that I help out! Thanks again and have a wonderful day!!

"New Members need to be told the importance of clicking"
I have loooked at this Topic line, thought about it and couldn't get why it made me uncomfortable...
Now I know - "...need to be told..." Yikes, sounds like new members are little kids that need to be told when to wipe their behinds...
Clicking is a choice, not something mandatory or something we "need to be told", as some sort of rule to be part of this community.
Yikes!

Thanks, SB! That was making me nervous, too. I'm awfully shy and particular about what I click on. I've been burned too many times. I didn't want to feel pressure to click to save my Care2 account! Again, thanks for the relief! AL&L, F-S

I joined for the clicking and am now just finding the social aspect of this all and want to do more with it. This seems like such a great pool of people. A shame if all we can come together to do is click. I like the clicking but the daily actions, petitions and meeting new people seems like bigger potential here.

Sometimes, I feel kind of out of sorts, and then when I do the clicking (to donate).....my spirit also starts to perk up. Its a win-win deal, the best kind.
By the way, clicking is something I do whenever I'm here at Care2. For me, this is part of the Care2 experience. (I usually do it before I do other things, its easier that way, and flows well.)

I am ashamed to say that I didn't know much about the Care2 reach! I've signed up since Dec 2000 and just used this service for email but never got to know much about all this!
Now I'm just getting more involved and hope to participate more on Care2 donations.
Seems like I start every group saying new here ,I was just reading about clicking everyday well I haven't and I will since it is so important .
Today being my frist day I am confused about what kudos are one person I don't know sent me a star and one person sent me a friends request and I accepted the request now what is the star for ?
I am getting lost here I want to find groups that are important for animals homeless people forest and cancer how do I know what groups to join I have joined some i know now are not what I am looking for .
Thank you for any answers that you can give me to help me out so I understand what I am doing.
I'm pretty new too, sorry you feel so confused. This group is great, you can go back and read some of the topics from earlier in the past few weeks and maybe find some answers there, it's alot of fun and good groups. explore and enjoy, Mary

I have been doing that and keep on reading as much as I can and care2 sent me a letter explaining about daily cliking and useing there cards for birthdays and other things so I am working it out.
Nice to have you on my friends list ,so many nice people in all these groups I am having lots of fun here .
I've been clicking away for a year or so now and have the buttons to several on msn site. It's only very recently have taken notice of all the other activities, groups etc on Care 2.
As has been said it only takes a couple of minutes..our clicks make such a difference to feeding an animal, helping the rainforests and it is wonderful to see, for instance the breast cancer site being able to fund mammograms with a certain amount of our daily clicks.
Since i had joined care2 in August.I click every day;only missed a few days. When my internet went down.If you are not sure about anything on care2.Help center is on the homepage or this group from which can give you advice or tips.Clicking daily, helps important causes. Not everybody can afford to give donations so clicking is a way of contributing. The more you click;more the charity/organization will benefit.

Question about Clicking ... September 05, 2005 8:22 PM
I would like to know how a click = donations.
Where does the donation come from .. it is an organziation; person; ... ? Where does this money come from that will become a donation. I did look over the answers but only saw people writing that they click ...
Correlation of clicks to financial support September 18, 2005 9:06 PM
After you click on a cause you are taken to a Thank You page. There are several "links" on this page that are ads by companies who sponsor the site. They have pledged X amount of money per click. And of course, they hope that you will visit their website.

Clicking September 27, 2005 12:31 AM
Hi All: I am new to clicking also.
Thank you Phillip and all who were kind enuff to explain the why's and wherefore's of the clicking to those of us who did not understand. I would like to say to the one who made the reference to 'being like little kids who need to be told when to wipe their behinds'; and that we shouldn't be told. WRONG.. We DO need to be told so we will understand. Then, once we understand, it is NOT mandatory, it IS choice. And I for one appreciate Phillip and all the others who took the time to explain everything to us. Stars to all those people. I am proud to say that I am now a daily clicker.
Since I joined on Wednsday I've clicked every single day. I'm also going to put banners on my website so that others can click too! Yay for helping out wildlife and people. (Very hyper right now!) hehe have a good one.
I originally joined Care2 for the Petition Site. Took a few months before I got to see everything else. Since then, I strive to click every day, altho I did miss some time due to computer malfunction.
I think new members do need to be told about the importance of clicking. They may not understand what it is about. As someone else mentioned, once they are informed, they then have the choice of clicking or not. We carry the message, then the rest is up to the recipient.
Hey thanks for this info! I did not even notice the click section (perhaps I should be embarrassed here...). What a great idea. Thanks for telling me about it!

First, don't use the 'Remember Me' function of login. Yes, it means you have to login everytime you come here, and every time you login you have to uncheck the Remember Me. But it also means when you first arrive, you are anonymous and can click the races to donate.
Then you login and click again. To make this easier, I have set the page to open after login as the donated page. [on My Page click 'Edit your basic info' and just after password and security is the 'Post-Login Page' and a drop down list to choose from]
The anonymous clicks won't bring you butterflys, or contribute to your race statistics. If you have good security on your system that masks your computer ID, you can return and click anonymously as often as you like. If the site recognizes your computer it will give you the message 'According to our records, you have clicked already today', rather than the 'You have already clicked today!' you get when you are logged in.
Also, it is a good idea to go to the sponsers' sites occassionaly, as that is why they are willing to make the donations. I usually do this while in anonymous mode.
I'm new to Care2 and clicking. But, I make sure I click everyday. Only takes a couple of minutes and its well worth it. I'm slowly finding my way around Care2 but the clicking definately should be told to new members and explained just how important it is!
Hi I am also new to care2 also and my name is Joe K. and are you talking about the spacing between words if you are i really try hard for I havent typed since high school a very long time. If I wrong drop me a line and let me know. JOE K.

I've been signing petitions and responding to Care2 alerts for maybe a year now, and participating on the forum for a couple months, but I'd been totally oblivious to "clicking" until I read this thread! Thanks for informing me; I've already begun clicking.

Hey all! Glad to meet everyone! I'm a newbie here and also new to this group. Came here to share my blogs, inspired photographs and artwork and to connect with a larger on-line community of like-minded people. Given there are so many descriptions and questions and unsure responses to the whole clicking phenomena - and in light of one person's reply resenting being "told to" I'd like to make an observation; Care2 itself should be explaining these things to newbies, as part of an introductory message - not "the newbies should be told" - it's semantics sure but it can offend people - particularly when, with a world wide membership some people may translate the written word more literally than others. So those who are attempting to help us newbies please do take some time to communicate clearly! I have found navigating and utilizing the Care2 site and it's complexities quite frustrating and it's taken reams of my time to get to know my way around, let alone figure out what Care2 is really all about! (sometimes I get the feeling it's all about the owners making money, same as how YouTube got rich using google ads, just as some groups seem to be all about the group host!) I've only been here a few days and have found aspects of the way the groups and such are organized and managed that I am not thrilled with, but I understand the internet is a place where one must learn through trial and error and exploration and so am aware I will come across things that are not suitable for me. Reviewing all these comments I don't think there is one clear concise answer to the questions on the details of clicking. As a newbie I'm in this specific group to get better acquainted with the site so hope, with time and patience on both sides some understanding can be gleaned.
Example; on the upper right column of the "New to Care2" group page there was a bar with "two links in one" and just underneath it a note suggesting people may be hostile... THAT in itself raises a flag for me and I'm curious what that's referring to - it would be inappropriate and "bad for business" to be hostile to newbies, in my mind, so what is it supposed to be warning us about?
Hi Cheryl, With a huge and complex site like this there is seldom one answer to any kind of question, as I'm sure you've noticed. Clear communication is always an excellent goal, and it is important that both speaker and audience, or both parties of a conversation be patient and forgiving of differences of expression. Myself, I believe that no two people speak the same language, so I am always ready to try and rephrase my thoughts.
As for the warning on the Group Home Page, I am not sure what the original intent was, as it was before my time. I tend to think it was to help prepare people who may be overly optomistic about the reasons for people or groups being here. While the site is largely about social and environmental activism, networking etc, there still are people and groups here with very different goals or views, which may be a shock to some people. Beyond that, I do not know what was intended.
If there are specific features or issues we can help with, please feel free to add to a related thread, or start a new one.
Hi, Thanks for your reply, much appreciated! I meant no disrespect, I was half on topic... on the clicking, I dove in and gave it a shot. I did end up with several e-mails after going along and clicking the various causes. They appeared not long after the session. I didn't notice any indication that an "e-mail will be sent to me upon clicking" but I may just be missing that on the pages. I'd much rather that communication go to my care2 e-mail box, is there a preference setting for that somewhere? Someone else suggested on the thread they wanted to know the inner workings, I guess these are some of the details we were looking for? Thanks!

Cheryl, go to your page, click on contact info, edit, at the bottem theres a setting for direct mail ok? you can change this, but also, near the top is a place for alternate email, you can check it or C2 email for things to be sent to. also when you reply to a message, sometimes it has an option to track this topic. If you want emails every time someone adds something check this. Hope this helps and you have a good day.

setting "alternate e-mail" January 31, 2007 7:44 AM
Oh thank you so much John! That will deffinately improve the matter! In setting up the initial account there's just no real way to know the consequences of some of the settings! Trial and error rules again! This may be the very reason why so few long-time Care2 people "click"! I'll try this new setting for today and see if it improves things for me! Much appreciated!
Hi Cheryl, I tried to answer you last night but I had some interference with my connection. As well as choosing where to receive your reminders, you can choose whether or not to receive any. That is a little more involved though. For most of the Click Races there is a link called 'Reminders' or 'My Settings'. Sometimes they are on the first page, sometimes the second, after you have clicked to donate. There are a number of things you can change on those pages.
I hope this helps you find the information you are interested in. Have fun
Peace, Teilflock
PS: Although these links should take you to the pages related to your own involvment in the races, they are meant largely as examples of how the different pages might label info differently.
Thank You Teilflock, Appreciate your help and have noticed you do that quite a bit in all the threads here, good to know some people with in depth understanding of the interface - there is so much functionality tucked away and built in, it's a little like treasure hunting here at Care2 !!! so far I've had mixed success with re-directing messages to the care2 email addy but I haven't received additional advertising yet! And even managed to earn myself a butterfly! whoo hoo! I'll keep exploring and keep asking when I can't figure what else to do! see ya around the site! Cheryl
You're welcome, Cheryl! I have been here a long time and survived a number of evolutional leaps in C2's growth. Although I dug out much on my own [pure dumb-a$$ stubornness on my part ] a number of people did help me out too. So, it seems it is my turn to pass on some of what I've learned.
In otherwords ... I'm glad to help!
Congratulations on the butterfly! and may you collect many, many more! Oh, did you know that particpating in the Daily Action will earn you extra butterflys? I always forget to point that out.
Please feel free to come back and discuss other features. If they don't already have their own thread, just start a new one.
I only scanned down this long thread so I hope I'm not doubling up on advice.
There is a setting that enables you to set the first page that you are directed to after you log-in. If you make it the Click-to-Donate page, you'll never have to remember again.
Unfortunately, I can't for the life of me remember how I changed the setting but if anyone out there knows, maybe you'd be kind enough to post the answer here.
Hi Rachel, That is a good point! You can set this up by clicking 'Edit Profile' at the top of your Profile page. The first Tab is 'Basics', and half way down is where you can choose your "Post-Login Page". I have mine set to Click to Donate too, and I find it keeps me on track very nicely.
I also try to at least Click every day if nothing else, it's what attracted my at first, altho I am discovering all the other good things and people too a little at a time - on dial up unfortunately therefore kinda limited right now - and it Rots
Thank you so much! I have been here over 2 years and didn't realize that I edit my settings to go to the "Click to Donate" page. And I appreciate the "how-to" advice. I just set mine so that I will go straight there to do my clicks from now on.
Thank you all so much explaining about the clicking! I had no idea what it was for before now.
Rest assured I'm going to be clicking each time I log in.
I am new to care2 and if I hadn't stopped by this thread I would have never noticed the click to donate area. Thank you for letting me know. I will be doing it everyday as I do the hungersite.
Is there a daily or weekly report on the contributions? I click and pray and I feel that can work just as well, this all has to fit together some how or another,at least that's the way feel about it all.lol
I hope this helps you find the information you are interested in. Have fun Peace, Teilflock
