Posting graphics or pictures in posts March 23, 2005 8:36 PM

Could you just do me a favor and have everything transfer by just doing a copy - paste?  It is an awesome consept!!  yes sirree!  And by golly much simplier.  On that note.

Can someone explain how to get graphics in posts?  Step by step.

Thanks,

Carolyn aka 'the moonster' and graphically disabled

It is getting late for me, so for now, I suggest you check out the following thread:

http://www.care2.com/c2c/groups/disc.html?gpp=3287&pst=102708&archival=

Having said that, if you right click on an image (not an image that is a link, it must be a regular image), and select copy, you can then paste that image into a post.

Hope that helps!

Inserting images:

next is the button that looks like a picture frame. Use this to insert images into your posts.

You need to have the image uploaded online. Such as on a free site like photobucket.

Go here http://photobucket.com/ sign up. Its free.

Then upload pics off your own computer then click the little picture next to the smilie:

example

As my very crappy arrow shows lol.

it will open a box. Go to photobucket again and copy the url of the image. It shows up in a box below the image itself with the word url next to it.

copy it then go back to care2 and inside the box where it says image url paste it.

then put in alternative text it doesn't matter what you say. It will be what shows up if someone hovers the mouse. put the mouse over the image I pasted above it will say example.

DO NOT LINK DIRECTLY TO SOMEONE ELSES WEBSITE!!!

Unless you own the website do not right click and copy it and paste it into your messages. This is called bandwidth stealing. If you do so you are a thief! If I own a website I only have so much bandwidth to use and then two things will happen- 1 my site will get shut down for a period of time, or it will just cost me more money from the host.

I can not stress this enough, never ever right click and copy from someone elses website.

Ofcourse its obvious that if you own the website yourself or have permission from the owner to do so then it is ok. Even though I still wouldn't recommened it. Its much better to use free sites that are for this, such as photobucket.

bunny

You can also right click and hit copy then right click in the message and hit paste. But still only right click and copy images from your own site or from photobucket or a site like that. If you take them from someone else's site it is called direct linking and it is stealing.

How do you put a picture in a testimonial?  Peace, Brenda  [ send green star]  [ accepted]

This thread will tell you how to do this.

This going back and forth from the thread site to care2 photo album, or photobucket, etc.etc. and than back to the thread I am unable to do without losing the info i need, but than unable to keep both windows open side by side.

When we right click on an image and get the dialog box, and press copy, where does it go? Seems as if we literally have to write down the url and type it in to the url box (which I have been doing) after we have clicked on the picture box next to the emoticon. Is there a simpler way to automatically transfer the "long" url address without having to type it out?

One more question...if we end up with a little box with a red x. what did we do wrong? Did we miss a step?

Short Cut August 27, 2005 7:52 AM

If you highlight the URL and press"control C" it will copy it then put your curser where you want the URL to go and press "control V" and it will put it in so you dont have to type it ( this will work for anything you want to copy)  [ send green star]  [ accepted]

Posting photos August 27, 2005 7:55 AM

Another way to post photos is to use Care 2 photo albums and store them there, Then all you have to do is right click the photo, click on "copy" then go to the thread and hit " control V" and the pic will be pasted in to the thread. But, It must be stored in your Care 2 photo album or you will get a red X instead of your pic

one more dumb question December 03, 2005 8:02 PM

Once you've transfered a photo to your posting.. how do you enlarge it? I managed to get it to work, took the photo from my album here, and transfered it onto another site but it came out small and I couldn't seem to suss out how to make it bigger. It was a shame, it made it hard to see the details in the face and that was the key point I wanted to make.

And could you make the explanation as simple as possible, I can discuss esoteric philosophies with the best of them but when it comes to computerese I'm a twit.

1. Did you copy the big picture or the thumbnail?
(The thumbnail is the smaller one that shows up when you enter the album. The big one is the one you get when you click on the thumbnail)
2. Did you put it on your site or on a thread here in Care 2?

If you did copy the big picture (or used the url for it) and you put it here on a care 2 thread it should show up the same size as the big picture in your album.

To make any picture bigger (or smaller)
Once you've put it in your post/message window click on the picture... you will see that the picture is outlined and there are squares at all 4 corners and on all 4 sides... place your curser over one of the corner squares and drag (outwards to make bigger or inward to make smaller) The only thing is that by making it bigger or smaller you distort the pixels in the picture... when you make it bigger you can see the individual pixels(colored squares) and whn you make it smaller it gets really blurry

Dynamite S.

Many big thanks and a huge hug. I knew that there would be some simple explanation to this all and that would right in front of me. So I was kind to myself and didn't kick my hienie for being such a berke. LOL. It was the clicking onto the thumbnail that was the problem, though for a few seconds I had to suss out what you meant by "clicking on the thumbnail"  ...........?????? LOL.. but I figure things out quickly enough if I sit on ponder on it for a few seconds. So yeahhhhhh success.
It was on a site that I co-host (poor fools..LOL) and I wanted to show them a photo that had moved me immensely. You can see it if you like in my album on my profile page here at care2. It's Tomoko and her mother 1972... so thanks once again

This is a test, this is just a test, if this were a real photo in a real post it wouldn't suc* like this one. LOL

(Ok, tried copy and paste from "My Pictures" and it didn't work. Did I miss something when I thought I read two people above say that you could do it this way? It is late so maybe my brain is off. LOL)

all I did was go to my albums.... select a thumbnail picture. Click on it to get the bigger image, then I right clicked on my mouse. I made sure that the cursor arrow was on the picture. Moved the cursor down to copy with the keyboard arrows.. clicked. Then I went over to the site that I wanted to post the picture. Opened a reply posting. Clicked on the main body, then right clicked on my mouse and scrolled down to paste and clicked on that.. and hey presto  [ send green star]  [ accepted]

No you can't copy from "My Pictures" on your computer... you have to have the picture somewhere on the internet, like in an album here or at Photobucket.com, and I"m not too sure you can copy and paste from photobucket

Images on the web December 21, 2005 8:38 PM

Why???

When you click on the lil' box next to the smiley so that you can add a URL.......and then you can put a description on the next line, describing whatever the picture is...........

Then.....what do you do????

There is absolutely NO WHERE TO GO!!!

I've clicked all over the "Insert Image-web page dialog", and there is absolutely nothing else...

Does anyone have any advice for me??

Thank you very much!!!

Soul C,
I'm not sure why unless it is the website itself or maybe that's the only picture file your pc supports I've never had this problem

Denise J,
If you are using Windows XP...

Lord SGreyB C.
I know - I has annoyed me too - the the 'OK' and 'Cancel' buttons are 'hidden' on the insert image box.

If you look very carefully and just move your mouse-pointer-arrow over the lower RIGHT part of the insert image box, just above the rim of it, you will see a line that changes color between blue and orange as you move the cursor.

It looks like this:

I hope this helps

IF your not using XP then I'll have to look into it further

I am having big problems to post pictures. The copy and paste does not want to work. Would like to ask you all, if anyone could help me. Now I got a Mac so I don´t know if this could be the problem. But if I try to copy a picture, you don´t see the picture itself. What you see is just the address of the picture, you´ve got to click on it to be able to see the picture. Is there anything I can do? I am thankful for any tips you could give me.  [report anonymous abuse]  [ accepted]

Workarounds for a couple of glitches August 24, 2006 12:24 AM

Once you open the Insert Graphics box, in some systems, it seems the OK or Insert button is covered up [as if the window is too small]. After your 'url' and 'Alternate Text' are entered, you can use the Tab key to navigate down to the OK box. That is, the tab key causes the cursor to jump from box to box, and for the page in that window to scroll, so all the info can be seen. [a handy trick to know if your mouse stops working]

In the Mozilla Firefox browser it seems the 'paste' option isn't available in the right click menu in the posting box. For Copy and Paste, use the key strokes Ctrl+c and Ctrl+v.

Also, to avoid the dreaded 'lost post' if the site or my computer chokes, or i goof, I use the following precaution: When I am finished my post, but before I hit 'preview', I press Ctrl+a [cursor must be inside post] to select my whole post, then press Ctrl+c to copy it. Thus I have a temporary saved version just in case, or if I want to put it somewhere else, like my harddrive. Then If I need to recover it I use Ctrl+v to insert it in the posting box. Also beware, Ctrl+x cuts/deletes whatever is selected.

For copying from my albums i open an extra window and go to my album and find the fullsized pic. Then resize that window to a long vertical box. When I have the post ready for the insert, I bring the smaller window to the front and drag'n drop the pic.

For emoticons i just drag and drop the little image itself.

Remember that there are some situations where copy and pasting [or drag'n drop] pics is considered stealing - see above, one of the earliest posts.

Peace, Teilflock

i want to know how do you post more than one grapgic at a time into a group discussion as i use the copy and paste method.  [report anonymous abuse]  [ accepted]

 October 26, 2006 3:13 AM

Once you paste a pic click on the right hand side of it. If it's a big pic you might end up click on it (because there is no room on the right) it will select the pic (putting lines and little boxes around the pic) it will also add a little to your scroll bar at the bottom of the message window, scroll as far right as you can and click on the right of the pic... it's a very small spot. then press your [Enter] key to go beneath it.

(is this what you were talking about? I have Firefox so I can copy/paste pics but this was the only thing I could think of at the moment)

Nancy,  for one thing, the "link" you are using, doesn't seem to go anywhere:  http://www.care2.com/c2c/people/4ff3

First and formost: a reminder, the pic MUST be on the web somewhere: i.e. in your album, in photobucket, etc...this is first and formost in importance:

To get the link in order to insert it, open the picture, right click on it, choose "properties".   Highlight the link from front to the very end (it may be a lot longer then displayed but will highlight it to the end as you mover your pointer in that direction. Right click the highlighted link, choose copy, and now you have the proper link to insert in your page.

Back at your page, open the editor, HTML, find this link (which is incorrect):   http://www.care2.com/c2c/people/4ff3

Highlight it, and press down on the Ctrl key and hold it down, and press the key with the letter "V" on it. This will copy in what you got from the pic earlier.

Save and check out if it worked

HELP! December 15, 2006 2:35 AM

Hello,
I've learned LOTS from all the questions everyone has asked & had my questions answered even before I asked them. Now I have 1 that I can't seem to find the answer to. You have all said in WONDERFUL detail how to post graphics & pictures & where they need to come from in order to work. However,I want to know where all these wonderful pictures that everyone uses throughout Care2 comes FROM? You know, all those sparkley graphics & neet picture cards? I tried to google it, but was over/under whelmed with the response. Over because there was so MUCH information, under because it wasn't really what I was looking for. And too, I don't want to worry about any corruption going into what I want to put here. I understand that if you're not careful getting some of this stuff, you can copy spam & trojans. Don't want to do that! So anyway, I wanted to send a nice graphic/card to someone here & couldn't find where, specifically, to find them. Any suggestions?

Thanks, Pat.

Hi Pat! I'm glad you are finding so much useful info! It makes things more fun once you can gt past all the tech stuff, doesn't it? I think I know what you mean about getting over/underwhelmed when searching for info, especially on the general net. Fortunately, Dynamite recently posted some C2 groups that make graphics available. Also, I understand that Photobucket has graphics for use - I don't use it, so I can't help beyond that. Also, I found this link for a free online image editor at another group - I can't vouch for it tho.

Hello everybody,

I would really appreciate it if anyone can help me out on something thats been a headache for me... I do know how to post photos, graphics and stuff although there are some cool graphics i found that just wont let me copy them and paste them, i try to right click on the graphic but it wont let me, it says right click disabled on images, so instead there's a code to the right of the image which needs to be copied, i do it but then i cant paste it, i have tried photobucket but it doesnt work either,  i keep getting this upload error, " The file "" does not have a valid image extension.

Now, as far as i know these graphics work with myspace so im wondering if it should work for care2 as well

Thanks

Blanca hmm I can't really help without knowing the exact code they are giving you. Can you post the link to the site that would help alot.

I am going to assume the code is not just the link to the image but also a link to their site. Many websites have free graphics but you need to use their code so they are sure to get the proper credit and a link back to them. If they require you to use that code then you must.

I am not sure why you can't paste it? Try hitting ctrl and V
or do you mean when you paste it that it doesn't show up in the post?

It may not work with photobucket as I think they only allow jpgs and it could be a gif or png image. But if you can't right click it then how did you get it on your computer to try and upload it to photobucket?

anonymous I can explain a bit... July 16, 2007 8:06 AM

I'm a bit rushed at the moment, but here goes:

A URL (Uniform Resource Locator) is a unique address at which a web page or image can be found on the Internet. It may start out something like:

http://www.care2.com/

but an image URL will be different after the part, usually ending with either "http://.gif" or ".jpg".

Right now at the top of your screen you should see a URL in a long, white box, the white box being called the Address Bar.

If you right-click on any image on your screen, you should see something to the affect of "View Image" (it may be titled differently - in fact it probably will); click on it.

On your screen you should now see only the image you right-clicked on (providing I've explained this well enough). In the address bar is the image's URL, which you can copy (simply select the text in the white box, right-click, and select "Copy").

When using the Care2 Insert Image tool, paste the image's URL into the URL box (done by right-clicking in the box and selecting "Paste"), type anything you wish into the "Alternate Text" box (it doesn't really matter what you type, just as long as there's something), and click "OK" at the bottom.

'Hope this helps!

P.S. Before you try to insert the image, in the billboard edit window click where you want your new image to appear. It's also important to ensure that the image already on your billboard doesn't have a black box around it or an overlapping bluish tint, both of which could indicate the image was highlighted (a highlighted image will be replaced by the new image).
