Inserting pics into testimonials July 02, 2005 10:17 PM
HI! I was wondering if anyone could tell me how to insert photos/animations into testimonials? I have seen this on several people's profiles, but when I try the traditional copy & paste, it doesn't work. What's the secret?
I actually have no idea about this one but someone did send me one with an animation/emoticon in it. I think you have to use the html code but I will ask her tomorrow and see how she did it (unless someone answers befoe I get on here again) The html code would be <img src="URL for the pic/animation/emoticon"> To get the URL you right click on the pic/animation/emoticon, then click on Properties and look next to where it says Location:, then highlight and copythe URL (http://Whatever...)then paste it in the spot.

Ok--think I finally mastered it! LOL I sent one to a friend, and it didn't come through....tried it again, and she said it had the dreaded white box with the red X in it, but she approved it and when I checked her profile page, it was visible! Sent one to my sister as well, and it was visible too! Thanks for all your help guys!

Apparently, it didn't work. It's really weird....I can see it, but my friend can't. On my sister's profile, I can see the image and so can my sister, but my friend can't. How could that be? What am I doing wrong?

It may be the location of the image. If you have a photo album here, then upload it into an album, then right click on the photo, when the dialog box pops up, find the "Address: (URL)"
and highlight the http://........ right click, chose copy, then close the box. My advice then is to open Wordpad, and paste that into it. Then add the <img src=" to the beginning and the"> to the end. Highlight the whole string and then paste it into the testimonial box. Make sure you do not delete, move or alter the original photo or it will lose the link.
I noticed that if I just type in the tag and insert the URL of the pic it doesn't always work, but if I do it in my notepad on my computer, then copy the whole thing and put it in the testimonial, it works! I have no idea why
Also try not to use word or exel type programs because they might have a hidded code/command, etc. that we don't see but messes things up

I recommend that Care2 look into finding much more simple, convenient methods of posting graphics to the threads without having to zig zag every which way to accomplish it. MSN is much easier because you can take photos, siggies, and other images stored on your own floppy disk or cd and transfer it to a thread in a MSN community. For those unfamiliar with MSN, their term community is equilivent to group.

Lady Gayle - I use photobucket also and for testimonials it is the second one down under the picture. For the new comment use can use the first one.
I have started some photo albums on care2 but find that even though you can copy and then paste you have to work your way back to where you want to insert it. I find photobucket much easier to work with.
Hi, Judianne! I find that having two windows open; one to the pic in my album [this one sized down]; and one to my post resolves that navigation problem. Even better, i can just drag and drop the pic into the post. I like the fact that I can then resize the pic inside the post and use preview to make sure its what I want. I don't think this works with PB.
I used my care2 album. The only problem I then had was when I went to a different topic I lost my album to the topic. Any clues about what to do then?

Judianne, these things work differently for different Operating Systems and browsers. Myself, using windows XP and FireFox, I have many options. I keep my Start/task bar of Windows on top of anything I have open. It displays names of all the programs or windows I have open, so I can just click on the one I want to have on top at the moment. firefox also allows both multiple tabs [pages of one or more sites] and windows.
Anyway, at the very least, you can minimise or half size your current window so you can reach the album window. If you want to use this a lot, reshape the album window to tall and narrow [by draging a side and the bottom edge, or sometimes the bottom right corner is made for this], and place it against one edge of your screen. Reshape your site window to cover most of your screen but leave a little of the album window visable to one side. Then you can click on it to bring it to the front. Neither will completely hide the other.
Hello Joy! Sorry, I missed your post while I was writing mine. The testimonials section was meant to be part of the community and trust building, I think. Basically, if a friend you know very well and trust joins the site, you could go to their testimonial area and, in whatever way, make a statement to that effect. Or if you've had positive experiences with someone on c2 you could publicly thank them in a testimonial. The idea was that newer folks could learn who was more reliable or helpful by reading their testimonials. I don't think the idea really caught on tho, as lots of people used it for silly greetings stuff [friendly and nice etc, but not as intended]. I think this is why c2 added the comments area for the more light hearted notes; hoping testimonials would become meaningful again. If you've been to EBay the idea is similar, those that deal fairly with people get good feedback and a High rating, those that don't, weell ... One thing about what you said about copy and pasteing pics: thats great for using c2 photo albums, and possibly photobucket, but, apparently not so great from other websites. Its explained in the thread about putting pics in posts. You may already know that, but I just wanted to point it out for new folks. I'm not totally clear on where that line is drawn myself.
Judianne, hope you have fun playing with the possibilities!
I copied the url and what showed up was the link only. Must have done something wrong. I'll try it again and will probably embarrass myself again. lol

in which area? testimonial, post, comment? if it was the testimonial did you add the tag? <img src="URL OF PIC HERE">
And like I said way up there the only way I can get it to work is to do it in my notepad then copy the whole thing and paste it into the testie area

Thanks for answering. I have problems with the testimonial. Can't get a pic to go there. I have photobucket and I'm not sure which link to paste I guess. There are 3 to choose from. It's the first one with everything else. Is it a different one with the testimonials? Heck, I'm confused. Hope to hear back! Thanks!

so it would be the first one and make sure the only space is in between img and src the purple is the URL... all URLs start with http://

Hello good people in care2. I am not new to care2 but I still don't know how to post images in testimonials. It has become quite frustrating. I read all the posts in this thread and have printed those I thought was most helpful. I wish there were a preview option to see if the image got to the testimonial. Why not? Is there anyway to test the message before sending it? I do not want to embarrass myself by sending a bunch of computer language for my testimonial when the image did not go through. Should I trust that the image is there and check on it when the member approves it? I have followed all the instructions in this thread and I have no idea if it were successful. I appreciate your feedback.
As far as I know, Stephen, all you can do is wait and see. You could write an introduction or PM to ask the person to let you know if it does not post correctly. You still have to wait, of course. You may also want to consider using text for the testimonial area, and saving graphics for the comments area.
