Care2 Photo Albums August 27, 2006 4:21 PM

This is a great place to store your photos on line, so you can invite your friends and family to come see them, rather than emailing them all over the place. You can choose the level of security on each album. It also provides an easy way to insert your pictures and/or graphics into your posts, comments, Personal Messages, or profile billboard.

Lets share our tips and advice about c2 albums here.

Creating an Album and Adding Photos August 27, 2006 5:25 PM

Across the page, a couple of inches below the top is a series of 6 Tabs, beginning with 'My Connect', and ending with 'Events'.
Click on the Tab second from the end called Photos. The photo gallary page will open, where you can browse other members' photos, or create and work with your own albums.
There will be several links available: My Albums, Create an Album, Add Photos, My Photo Tags.
1. click on Create an Album
2. complete the form.
3. click Continue, and it will open the Add Photos area
[note, in future you can start with Add Photos, and it will let you choose which of your albums to put the photos into, or to create a new one]

There are 2 methods to upload photos:

A: Easy Upload
This is best when you have many pictures in one folder on your computer that you want to add to your album.
[Important Note: you must be able to allow cookies and enable Java to run in your browser, and may need to download the java applet.]
If a box with green and black circles opens
with the message 'Drag your Photos Here' (below instruction #2 on the page), then the settings should be ok for the upload.

1. open a separate window to the folder where you store your pictures. [or use the 'Browse' button to find and select pics, and click Add. Skip to #5]
2. resize this window so it is small enough to see the Easy Upload area in your browser window.
3. select a group of pictures.
4. drag the group into the green area of your Easy Upload page of your album and release the mouse button.
5.
The images will be listed in the box; click 'Upload Now'
6. Wait: the more pictures you move at once, the longer it will take to complete the action.
You should see a progress indicator while the transfer is in progress.

B. Single Upload
This is good if you have 1 - 4 pics to upload.
There are Four lines for information that can be added for each picture.
- the first is the Path, or location of the picture on your computer, with a 'Browse...' button to the right.
- Title - give your pic a name
- Description - provide any other info about the pic you wish to. [optional]
- Tags - these are the keywords that allow you or others to search for similar pictures, like 'cats' [optional]

1. Click the first 'Browse...' button
2. Near the top of the small window that opens is a drop down menu to use for navigating to the folder on your computer containing your pics.
3. Your images will be listed by name. You can view them as thumbnails by changing the view. [method depends on your system]
4. Select an image and click Open near bottom right of the window
5. That window will close and the path to your picture will appear to the left of the 'Browse..." button
6. Name the picture in next line down
Repeat this for 3 more pics, if you want. Then at the bottom left of the album page, click Add Items, and wait.

~~~
Once the upload is complete, the new page should list the names of the pictures 'successfully added'.
Now you can choose to Add More Files, or Return to Album [to view and/or edit your pictures]
anonymous  August 30, 2006 3:21 PM
Hi, I recently started putting my pictures into the Care2 albums and I note that it advises me how many more photos I can download for the 30 day time limit. Since I did not write down the date that I started to do this, I am wondering if there is a way to find the date I started or the date that ends my 30 days?
Thank you for so much good information on so many topics.
Hi again Judianne! You don't need the date. When you go to Add Photos, it will tell you how many photos you can upload today, having tracked your activity in the last 30 days. So if you uploaded 50 pictures 30 days ago and are at your 200 pic limit today, tomorrow your total available will increase by 50. The system tracks this, so you don't have to.
As far as I know there is no limit, ultimately, to how many pictures you can store at C2 albums. They are just trying to keep the uploading at a reasonable rate. Imagine a million members all trying to upload 500 pics on the same day!?! ouch.
Peace, Hope and Uploading
I am glad to help, Joy. I know how frustrating it can be when tech stuff gets in the way of fun and productivity, so if someone can benefit from my experience and get on with what's important - its a good thing! This is my small contribution to the smooth growth and productivity of the care2 community, and its power to make positive changes in our world.
I can't upload pictures January 02, 2007 10:53 AM
Hi there!
 I can't upload any pictures on my-albums! I followed the steps you advice, but Add Items doesn't show any reaction !!!
I had managed to upload my Profile-Picture; I was totally unlucky though to upload my-group-photo - at the managing console/Layout/Group-Photo, the Submit showed also no reaction!
When I used the box Add Albums the picture I loaded appeared as my Profile-picture, so I changed everything again.
Can oyu help me?
Hello Tina,
I'm sorry you are having problems with uploading pictures. Are you using the 'Single' method? Depending on your system and net connection speed, it can take a significant length of time to load pics - the more or larger the pics, the longer it will take. Try just one pic at a time, and be patient. Do you get any error messages?
Also, the pics must be jpgs; should probably be less than 500kb each; and must be in a folder on your harddrive - not on your desktop or on a CD.
Please provide more information if this does not help. For example, what operating system and browser are you using? Have you ever been able to upload pictures here - is this a new problem? Have you been able to upload elsewhere but not here?
Peace, Teilflock
uploading pictures January 07, 2007 5:54 AM
Hi Teilflock!
Meinawhile I managed to upload pictures in my albums on my Profile page - using the Easy Upload. Success I had also in uploading one picture for one message/in shares and one in my group "support no-kill animal shelter in Istanbul/Host Shares.
But still I have problems in:
1) uploading picture in my Group-Photo - the Submit button does not react at all!!!
2) I can not upload in Comments/Topics etc, using the Insert Image icon. it shows  a small red "x" and no picture at all!
Thanks if you can help me
Congratulations on conquering the Photo Album, Tina! It is a major step in getting familiar with how things work here.
Let me point out some guidelines to reduce the confusion on which source of pics to use in what circumstances.
  • For your profile picture [AKA Avatar], Group picture and photo albums your images must be in a folder on your computer.
  • However, for posting to threads, comments, billboards of your profile or group, and Testimonials the images must be in your photo album or another online program such as PhotoBucket.
1) I'm not sure why the submit button would not react when uploading for a group photo. I'll have to think on that.
2) for inserting the image in comments or posts, you need to make sure you get the right information. In your Album, click on the image you want, so it enlarges. Then Right-click it and choose Copy Image Location or equivilant.  After clicking Insert Image in your post, paste this into the line called Image URL, then add a name for the pic in the next line and click ok.
Let me know if this doesn't help.
Peace, Teilflock
hmmm... errrrr.... January 08, 2007 10:23 AM
well, I "Right Click", clicked Copy, the cats from the picture kept looking at me and nothing happened .
Also no reaction when I tried "Make this picture my Profile photo" = no reaction at all!
Let's give it another try:
1. I open my post
2. I go back and open my album or I open another care2-page and go from there to my album?????, enlarge photo etc
or what???
Group Photo still doesn't work....
Tina,
The information you need is an address that will look something like this:
http://dingo.care2.com/pictures/c2c/galleries/...1511227.jpg
That is why when you right click on the picture, you must choose Copy Location, or click Properties and a box will open where you can see this address.
This thread was meant to help with making photo albums: I'm afraid its not much help with posting pictures. Other threads here cover putting pictures into posts, comments, and testimonials and Editing features in posts. Please check them out and see if they help. Then let us know if we can help more.
That's terrific! I'm glad you found what you needed Tina!
As for the submit button for the group picture ... that's an odd one. is the button greyed out? does it just not respond to clicking? There are only two reasons I can think of why the button might not work, or might not be available. The first is that the page doesn't recognise that valid info is available to submit. Is the picture you want to upload on your computer and a JPG?
The second is if you don't have the host privileges to change the photo then the button would be greyed-out ~ yes this can happen even if you are the Owner and only host. Privileges must be set in the 'Host setup/Privileges' area of the console. The Owner must make themselves a host and give themselves all the privileges to use all parts of the console. There should be a message on the group photo Upload page if you do not have these privileges.
Hopefully someone else will have some ideas.
Peace, Teilflock
sorry Teilflock it took me so long, but I was busy making my group interesting and find help for the shelter
Grooup photo is JG, the submit is gray, when browse a picture turns blue, when I submit turns orange and  then ZERO, no reaction!
in the "host privileges" I am the host/owner with all privileges ckecked. or do I have to add my 99999 number? but there it says: to invite another host.
thank you
Hi Tina,
Since the submit button is greyed out, it seems it doesn't think you have the authority to make changes. Did you previously enter your PID to make yourself a host? If you do not have the host privilege to change the photo this message should appear above the area:
"
Your host settings do not permit you to edit the group content/layout." If this is there, then you probably still need to add yourself as a host.
However, if you have made yourself a host, well, sometimes these things can get cross-wired LOL. Try unchecking the seventh Host privilege "
edit layout/branding" save it, go to the group pic upload page and look for the above message. It might even be good to close the Management Console area for a minute. Then go back to the Host privilege and recheck "edit layout/branding" and save the changes. Check the upload page again. Hopefully, this will straighten things out. Please let me know.
Peace, Teilflock
Hi Teilflock,
I made the changes you proposed by unclicking the Host privi "edit layout/branding" and I got the message - as you said - Only hosts can upload pic"
So this test was successful! no picture uploaded lol
I may need to add my pid ... which I am not able to find, no matter where I searched . my profile URL just shows
http:// my.care2.com/ttikki   ?????
i need more help, i guess
Hi Tina,
That may be a good sign! Did you recheck the host privilege and then go back to the upload page again? If that does not work, your PID is found when you open your main profile page "My Page" - yours is "pid=486802999"
I hope this works for you.
Well, that's what I get for not checking before I open my mouth - I forgot, its harder to find your own PID than anyone elses I opened my profile page, and like you, the PID doesn't show in the URL, however, I was able to see it by hovering my mouse over my avatar on My Page. Then I clicked on my avatar pic and the new page that opened finally showed the PID in the URL!
Hi Tina,
I'm sorry the group photo upload still isn't working! I seem to have run out of ideas on what else to try. Unless someone else has something to offer, the next step is to submit a Help Request Form [link will give some info on that process], and get C2 Support to look into it for you. It may be a code problem on your page. When you complete the form, be sure to tell them the steps we went thru to try and fix it yourself, so they don't suggest the same thing. They may also need to know your Operating system and browser version.
Please let me know in the other thread if you have any problems with the Help Form process.
Peace, Teilflock
anonymous album passwords February 11, 2008 2:54 PM
I tried to restrict an album to password holders for family shares. While I have no trouble with it, those with whom I am trying to share it can't get a prompt for the password.  They can see the album with the padlock image, but mousing over, clicking etc does not allow them to enter it.  Some are and some are not C2C members, but it makes no difference.  Does restricting an album mean only the owner can ever see it? Did I misunderstand?  Thanks for your help!  [report anonymous abuse]  [ accepted]
 February 11, 2008 8:04 PM
Hi Momi,
As far as I know, you should be able to give others access to your locked albums by giving them the password. We, as owners of the albums, are not challenged for the password as long as we are logged in to Care2.
Seems to me I remember something about this before - that the locked albums do not present the 'enter password' dialogue box to visitors. Unfortunately, I don't remember anything about a resolution of this. I can only suggest that you submit a Help Request Form.
I hope you come back and share your results with us, so we can all learn something!
Peace, Teil
Hi Carol,
The link mentioned is for causing a photo in one of your Care2 albums show up as your profile photo [AKA avatar] on your page, and beside your posts. If this is what you want, then open your album, and click on the picture you want as your avatar, to make it large and the only one displayed. To the right of your photo is a list of links [below the 'send this photo as an ecard' message]. The fifth link is "Make my Profile Photo". When you click on this, you may not notice anything immediately, except that the page refreshes. When you go to your profile, the new image should be there. There can be some delays on the image appearing, especially in posts. When you go to a thread you have posted to, if it shows the old image, then refresh your browser. It may take refreshing on several pages to make it appear everywhere.
Peace, Teil
Hi,
I was wondering if you help answer a question for me.  On 'My Page' I don't have a section for my photos only a section for videos.  I have to go to my account and then click on photo album.  Besides the fact that who ever visits 'My Page' cannot see my photos, the one's that I do download are mostly displayed as a black square and I don't know which photos they are.
Do you why this has happened? its been like that since I joined.
Thanks for any info you can pass on.
