I think it might help if we have a place to post [repost] notices from Care2 support about technological changes affecting the site, or portions of it.

Care2 S. Participating on Care2 Connect October 16, 2006 12:57 PM Hello Members!
Thank you all for your support & participation on Care2 Connect over the years. As Care2 Connect grows, it creates more opportunities for our members to meet like-minded individuals, share information, and make a larger impact on the world.
When participating on Care2 Connect we ask that all our members follow our Terms of Service ( TOS ) and our Code of Conduct (COC). Why? Following these simple guidelines helps create a well-balanced online community that fosters positive communication. If you come across behavior on Care2 that is not in accordance with our TOS and/or COC, please let us know by following the appropriate channels for reporting such abuse:
Within a Group: If the problem occurs within a group, please report the problem to the Group Host (either via the Community Watch system if in use, or directly to the Group Host). It is the Group Owner / Hosts responsibility to manage their group. Make sure to provide them with as much evidence (including links to posts) as possible, so they can investigate.
Outside of Groups: Please use the "Flag as Inappropriate" link at the bottom of the individual's profile page, share, or event. Please include as much detail as possible, including links to specific evidence. Note that we are neither arbitrators nor lawyers, and we have limited resources to be able to investigate, but we do our best to help.
On Care2 News Network please use the ‘problem’ link to report an inappropriate news story. If you find inappropriate comments please flag the profile and include a link to the news story where the comments appear, what was said, and other information that may be helpful for our investigation.
If you believe an individual has broken the law (e.g. you believe they have committed libel) please report this to your local law enforcement.
Social Networking attracts a wide-range of individuals. Some with very strong beliefs and that's what makes social networking so interesting. If you encounter an individual (or group) that you believe is a troublemaker, we find that the best policy for members is to privately report the troublemakers and to publicly ignore them.
Any violations of the TOS or COC may result in the termination of membership on Care2. Please know that we take violations seriously and will investigate inappropriate behavior and take action as necessary.
The new group discussion look is here! September 27, 2006 2:05 AM
We have installed the new group discussion changes we alluded to a few days ago (see below). There may be a few loose ends to tie down but we believe that you'll really like the new features.
Let us know what you like and where we can make continued progress.
Coming Soon To Group Discussions September 23, 2006 8:00 PM
We are happy to announce the first of some major improvements in group discussions; a new look with new features and some new ways that members can interact with groups!
Our New Look:
Coming soon to a browser near you, group members will be able to see all visitors to the group** and a new section will show the newest members to the group. This will allow you to quickly welcome new members making them feel right at home as soon as they join your group.
To improve host's ability to communicate with the group, we are adding a new Host Announcement section allowing hosts to quickly and easily create messages for all group members.
We are also updating how hosts will appear when they post to discussion topics. Each host will have a special icon - a blue dot containing a white 'h' - making it clear when hosts are posting to discussions.
New Ways For Members To Correspond:
We are expanding email connectivity within all groups! We will be providing new email options allowing members to select to receive group posts via email. Members will have the option of selecting to receive messages only from the host, as a daily collection (digest) of posts as a single message, as a separate message for every post (indistinguishable from group tracking), or as no email at all (web only).
What makes this truely exciting is that your responses to the email messages will become posts to the discussion topics too! Members will be able to make and receive posts without opening their browser to the discussion group!
In addition to simply responding to discussion posts, these new email posts will allow you to create new topics, subscribe to new groups, and even unsubscribe from groups, too.
We're looking forward to being able to make them available to you early next week. We're hoping you like them and find them both useful and powerful.

People Surfing - using Tags October 29, 2006 11:10 AM
Care2 S. New and Improved People Surfing! October 11, 2006 3:11 PM
We're a few days away from launching a significant rewrite to our "people tagging engine". People tagging? What's that? Well, you already do it. Almost everything you add tou your MyPage, your profile, is now a "tag". A tag is a descriptor that you've given yourself. When you tell us that sushi is your favorite food, you've just tagged yourself with "sushi". These tags are now jumping-off points for finding networks of people who share your interests, your passions, your fears, your obsession with 80's Goth bands. It's now much easier to learn more about what drives the members of this community, and share more about yourself.
With our new people surfing interface it's much more fun to discover and understand how we're all connected. Stay Tuned.
New and Improved "People Surfing" is live in Care2 Connect. October 16, 2006 3:54 PM
Today we have launched a significant rewrite to our "people tagging engine". With our new people surfing interface it's much more fun to discover and understand how we're all connected.
Updating your "People Surfing" tags October 17, 2006 3:50 PM We understand the confusion that can occur when new features and new ways of viewing old ones appear. For our new People Surfing feature, we migrated your old tags into the new format and for most it was successful.
For those of you that are concerned that you are now missing some of your old tags, engineering is creating a link that will display your old settings. This link will permit you to see what you used to have and give you an opportunity to update your current profile.
When that link is ready, we will post it in this thread, and if you are logged in, it will show you your old profile settings.
Please update your settings right away as we cannot promise that the link will be available for more than 2 weeks.
Hope this helps.

Performance Upgrades 10/20/06 October 19, 2006 8:03 PM
Hello,
Due to the high volume of traffic and activity on our site, we have been searching for ways to improve the overall performance for our users. Users who are not located near our main servers in California may have experienced slower image delivery than those closer to our primary location in Sunnyvale, CA.
We have found a solution to this, and on October 20, around 4 PM Pacific time, we will be making a change to the way we serve site and user images. This will not require a site outage and should not affect the site operation, but users should recognize a significant improvement to image serving, particularly to those who live or access our site from outside of California.
In addition to the image serving changes, we've recently added local caching software which gives a significant performance improvement to the speed in which web pages are prepared and served to the user.
The combination of these two changes should have a significant effect on the user experience during your visit with Care2. Thanks for reading, and enjoy your stay!

Care2 website speed October 22, 2006 11:36 AM
On Friday Oct 20, we deployed a significant upgrade to the system that should help Care2 images and pages load faster for everyone. The improvements should be most noticable the farther you are from our main hosting location in northern California. For members who live outside of North America, the speed difference should be substantial.
This new system is not cheap, so we'd like to make sure you really notice a difference. If you don't, that's disappointing, but we'd rather know about it than not. Obviously there are regional factors and connection speed differences that will impact your personal experience, but the question for everyone out there is:
Is the site faster for you today than it was a week ago?
Care2 S. Site Outage Oct 28 8:27 AM We had to do some emergency work on our system last night that took the whole site off line for a number of hours through early this morning. All data is safe. Services are coming back online slowly. All should be back to normal soon. We apologize for any inconvenience but this was one of those unanticipated hardware failures that just sometimes happen.

Topic Tracking Re-Introduced October 18, 2006 5:54 PM
Hello,
As many of you may already know, we recently upgraded the system which was used for receiving email tracking of groups. However, the new system was not set up to handle individual topic tracking, only subscribing to all discussions within the group. Following the launch, we received a large amount of feedback regarding this feature, and requesting that it be brought back. While this was not a simple fix, we have modified the new system in order to accommodate this feature.
We are happy to announce that this has been completed, and is now available again. The current email subscription options for groups remain unchanged. If you are subscribe to receive host announcements only for a group for instance, you can leave that setting, and subscribe to any individual topic you wish to track. Changing your mail setting to receive emails for each individual will cancel topic tracking, as that subscribes you to all topics within the group. In addition, using the unsubscribe email address in your group email does not affect topic tracking. Individual tracking can only be enabled or disabled within the actual thread.

Problems with tracking ... Sunday, 6:01 PM
Hi. We hear you but we only have a skeleton crew available to look into this on the weekend. The engineering team is aware of this problem and has taken a look (well, one of our super engineers has) but the problem will need more work on Monday.
Let me assure you that we will be working to resolve these problem asap. After all, we really do want you to get the messages you want, when you want, and how you want, so you'll be able to keep up-to-date in whatever way works best for you. It just isn't quite working that way just now. Your patience is appreciated.
If you're seeing a lot of email coming to your account in error, please report it to the help form by selecting Email/Umm... and give us the groups and topics that you are receiving in error (<-- this is important! ).
Providing us with this information will enable our engineering team to more quickly diagnose and resolve this problem. Please do not report that info in this forum.
Working together we can resolve this quickly. Thanks for your help.
We are happy to announce that we have just released a number of Care2 Share enhancements and fixes. The largest of these is a tool that allows you to customize what shares you see on the Share Network and My Connect pages. In addition, we have modified the filters to allow selecting of more then one type of Share at a time.
To change which types of shares you see in the Share Network page, click on the 'Change' link, which appears next to the information about what types of shares are being displayed (ex. Displaying all shares from your friends network) below the 'My Share Network' heading.
Clicking on this link will open a box to select which types of shares you wish to view, and whose shares you wish to view (Friends only or Friends network). Once you have selected the shares you wish to view, you can hit 'Change View' to display those shares on the Share Network page, but leave the default settings in place. Or, you can hit 'Save as Default' to save those settings so every time you return to the Share Network page, it will default to those types of shares. In addition, using the 'Save as Default' feature will also set the Share module on the My Connect page to show only the share types selected. Please note that if you do not select any share types, it will revert back to whatever the default settings are.
We will be announcing further upgrades and fixes to this site shortly, so stay tuned!!
Big upgrade to Care2 News Network! June 29, 2006 10:12 PM
We've done a pretty major upgrade to the Care2 News Network over the past 2 weeks. If you haven't stopped by in a while, check it out!
Why? The news network has been hugely popular since we launched it and we've been hearing lots of requests for new features and some changes to the way things look... and we aim to please
What's new? The biggest changes you'll notice:
you can now post and view videos (yea!!)
you can add photos to stories
the Front Page layout has been improved to make it easier to find stories by topic
All of the stories on the front page continue to be determined by Care2 member votes. If you see a story or video you like, make sure to note-it! Currently only a small fraction of the people reading the news on C2NN are also voting/noting, so make sure to click to make your voice heard!
If you haven't visited it yet, C2NN is a new type of "news" service where Care2 members find the most interesting stories and videos from around the web, and post them to the site. Other members then view the stories and vote (or in our lingo "note!") what they like. The best stories make the Front Page. The rest go to news heaven and are not heard from again. The result is a truly unique source of interesting stories, videos and other content that reflect the values of the Care2 community. This probably won't replace your headline news source, but it will make for some very interesting / educational / inspirational viewing.
Thank you to all of you who have been helping make C2NN such a success! We hope you like the enhancements and, as always, keep those ideas and feedback coming our way.
More new C2NN features June 30, 2006 11:07 PM
We launched some additional small features last night/today on C2NN:
What's "hot" - if a story seems to be of particular interest to people based on the rate of "notes" it's receiving, we'll mark it as "hot!!!" on the Front page.
Top stories now all have photos. The top story in each category on the Front page will be a story with a photo.
Clicking the title goes to the permalink page. Many people were missing out on the great "comment conversations" happening around some stories because they didn't realize every story has a permalink (permanent link) page where people can comment on the story. So, if you now click on the story title, you'll go to the permalink page. To go to the story directly, simply click the "visit site ->" link instead. It's also nice to go directly to the permalink page for videos, as we embed the video directly into the permalink page for fast access.
Great feature: You can now get all the comments on a story sent to you, so you don't have to keep checking back to see if someone has responded to your comment. Simply check the box above the comment-submit form to get copied on all future comments to that story.
Enjoy!
August 01, 2006 11:41 AM
Yes, as some of you have already seen, by popular demand we now have an "Offbeat" category on C2NN. Please post all funny, bizarre, odd, etc.. stories and videos there!
Posts are Not Chronological October 29, 2006 12:31 PM
I apologize that the Notices are not posted according to the order they were produced. The unexpected Oct 28 site outage seemed to be a higher priority to post ASAP, and I wasn't sure I would have the energy to get all the other relavant notices posted today. It seems like I managed, but if I missed anything important, it will have to wait.
New Group Mailing Lists Tuesday, Oct 24, 2006 6:08 PM
We recently did a soft-launch of an important new feature for Care2 Groups: Every group now has the opportunity to have its own mailing list (often called a "listserv"). We'll soon be doing the "full launch" of the service, so we wanted to give you a little more insight into where we're going with all of this.
Why Mailing Lists? We surveyed Care2 Group Hosts and leaders of small nonprofit organizations and identified this feature as one of the most important tools we could add to our site. Most members of groups, whether here at Care2 or elsewhere, frequently check their email but only occasionally visit the group's homepage. Thus, the best way to help keep the most group members informed and connected is via email.
Listservs also traditionally come with associated hosting fees/hassles, so by bundling this with our free group tools we hope to provide a simple, effective solution.
Mailing lists vs Discussion Forums Our new mailing list service is an extension of our popular discussion forums. If you like the way the discussion forums work today, nothing needs to change - you can choose to interact with them exactly as you have been. But now, in addition, you can also receive the discussion posts directly in your inbox, or post to a discussion from your email. The mailing lists functionality is simply more convenient for some people.
Control Everyone wants control over what comes into her inbox, so we've provided a range of options. Every group member will be able to determine what kind of communications she receives via email. The options are:
Do not receive any email. Read group posts and announcements on the website only.
Host Announcements Only: Receive only important host announcements.
Daily Digest: Receive a daily email containing all group posts and host announcements made the previous day.
Individual Email: Receive an email for each post and host announcement made to the group.
Getting Everyone On Board Given the importance of this feature, every new member to a group will be asked to set their communications preferences when joining a group. In other words, when you first join a group, you'll be asked to select one of the above settings to determine if/how you want to receive messages via email. In the near future (within the next week or two), we'll also be requiring all of our existing members to identify your preference for each group you're a member of. You'll only have to do this once for each group (or you can simply set all of your preferences via your My Account Notifications page.)
We want to make Care2 Groups the most effective platform for group organizers to make a positive impact. We hope you'll find this new mailing list feature a useful and powerful new service!
It's taking considerably longer than anticipated to get the personal messaging system back online after the unanticipated outage last night.
The messaging database is absolutely huge, as you can probably imagine given how many people are using it all the time. The data is all there and should be normal when it comes back online, but is taking a lot longer than anticipated to re-enable that system.
We anticipate it will be back online within the next two hours. Again, our apologies for this unexpected interruption.
5:11 PM The personal messaging system is now back online. It should be fully functional again. No messages were harmed during this procedure. We apologize for the long outage today!
Newsletter and Alert Address Clean-Up … Tuesday Oct 31, 9:32 PM
Happy Halloween!
Care2 strives to provide you with a rich variety of newsletters, calls to action, discussions, and other features over email. But, as many of you have pointed out, these messages don't always make it to your inboxes. So, we're launching a drive to clean up our database and make sure we deliver everything you ask for – and we need your help!
What’s to be expected?
If our system has detected that emails to your account are bouncing, we’ll let you know with a prompt to update your address. You may update it right away and you will not be prompted again unless your emails are bouncing at the new address. If it’s a bad time, you have the option to select ‘No Thanks’ and you will not be prompted again for 24 hours.
If you are signing a petition and your signature information does not match what is in your account you will be given an opportunity to update your profile information to match your signature with a single click.
Henceforth, to keep your information up-to-date, we will be providing you with a bi-annual reminder o update your information. Changing your email address or selecting ‘No Thanks’ will silence the reminder for another six months.
Being prompted may be an indication that you have requested to receive mailings from us. If you wish to review your notification settings, we recommend that you check them here. You might also like to update your newsletter settings at this time too here.
The clean up is scheduled to begin tomorrow or the day after. If you have any questions, please join the discussion within Feedback & Suggestions called Newsletter and Alert Address Clean-up: Q & A.
More About Address Database Cleanup November 09, 2006 3:37 AM
Care2 S. Newsletter and Alert Address Clean-Up … Tuesday, Nov 7 11:47 AM
Hello Everyone!
Please see the following screen-shot of what the address update prompt looks like:
If you are receiving this prompt it means messages have bounced back from your email to our system in the past. If your address is in fact correct, you're probably not receiving all the mail you've requested. To verify your address, click the link under, "Is your current address correct?" and follow the instructions for verifying your account.
If you have any questions please let us know in the following discussion threadthread or by using thehelp form. We appreciate all of your help and support!
Sincerely, Care2 Support
Another screenshot of a message you may receive at the petition site:
Our recent update to Care2 Connect Groups included a new feature, Host Announcements. This feature was created to empower group hosts to easily and effectively contact their group members with announcements or information relating to their groups.
In order for this feature to achieve its purpose, members must select their email preferences for the group. By signing up to receive email notification for Host Announcement, members can be kept up to date with happenings in their groups more easily.
When we launched this feature, we transferred the existing group tracking settings to the new system, so members who were tracking messages in the old system would continue to receive them via email. However, we did not make a selection for those members who were not tracking their groups.
As a result of this, many members who would wish to be receive host announcements for their groups are not signed up for them, and may not understand how to do so. Thus, we are now requesting that members make a selection as to their email preferences for any group that they have not chosen one for. Upon visiting the group homepage, the following window will open, requesting that the member make an email preference selection for the group.
Once you have made a selection, this window will not show up again in that group.
We believe that this process will promote better group participation as well as enable the group hosts to better communicate with their members.
Concerning care2 member Karen W she has been trying to get on Care 2 for 3 days this is a copy of a mailing I just received from her she is very frustrated. I copied and sent her all the info. about the bouncing etc.
Hi Jean,
Thank you for your help. I still cannot get into Care2. Of all the suggestions in the newsletter, the only one I could access is the help form. I submitted my problem and was immediately asked to verify my e-mail address. I went through that whole thing again and got the same error message, "could not complete your request."
Hello Jean. I am sorry to say there is nothing we can do to help here. The notices are only posted here to increase exposure of site issues. None of us, that I know of, work for c2.
I am glad to see that you have posted this in the appropriate thread in F&S. I will go post the only ohter suggestion i have in that thread.
12/14/06 - New host features and updates Thursday, 4:00 PM
Hello!
We are happy to announce several new features and updates to Care2 Connect!
For group hosts, we have added the following:
Group Stats page Transfer Ownership tool Editing thread titles for hosts Import and Invite contacts to groups
In addition, we have made the following Host Announcement Modifications
We hope that you enjoy these new tools!! We are working on several other updates and enhancements for groups and hosts, so stay tuned for further updates!
New Feature - Group Stats for Hosts Thursday, 3:22 PM
December 12, 2006
Hello,
We are pleased to announce the long
awaited release of a group stats page for group hosts. On the main
group management console page, we list a couple stats as well as a
graph of posting activity for the group.
Clicking on the 'view more' link will take you to a more detailed page
of stats for the group. Please note that it was not possible to run the
stats without first putting these pages in place. As a result, the bar
graph for post activity may not show data for your group for a couple
days while the stats are calculated for all groups. In addition, there
will be further stats added to these pages as they are generated, so
check back on this feature a bit later!

Care2 S. New Feature - Group Transfer Ownership Thursday, 3:32 PM
We are pleased to announce the group "Transfer Ownership" link is now accessible by all group owners. That's right...it's no longer necessary to submit a help request for transferring group ownership so long as your group still has an active owner. If your group owner is MIA please submit ahelp requestthe old-fashioned way and we'll be happy to assist you.
To locate this link, please go to your Group Management Console within your group and click on ‘Transfer Ownership’.
Please note: The new owner must first be added as a host of the group before you can transfer ownership to him or her.
Care2 S. New Feature - Renaming of Thread Topics Thursday, 3:39 PM
This one we’re really excited about…
Group hosts now have the capability of renaming the subject heading of discussion topics. This feature should help hosts to better organize their groups and make previous threads easier to locate.
To use this feature click on a discussion thread and then click on “Show more thread options.” Enter the new subject heading as you’d like it to appear next to “Change the thread’s topic.”
Example: Our first thread to be renamed, "Care2 Feeback Group Focus and Guidelines." That typo has been driving us crazy since the thread was first posted almost a year ago.

Care2 S. New Feature - Import and invite members to your groups Thursday, 3:39 PM
Dec. 14 '06 One commonly requested feature we have had regarding Care2 Connect groups is the ability for group hosts to invite their contacts to join their groups more easily.
We have now implemented a feature to facilitate this. If you have a list of contacts, or group members from a yahoo group for instance, you can now import them into your group using the 'Import' feature. By uploading a csv file, or pasting in the contact information, you can add your contacts outside of Care2 to your groups. People who are imported are sent an invitation to the group. They can join the group if they wish by following a link in the invitation email and completing the subscription process.
Members who are imported in this way will be email members of the group, meaning that they receive emails of the posts to the group, and can post to the threads via email. If they wish to participate on the website, they will have to sign up for a full Care2 account. If you import a person who is already a full Care2 Connect member, they will receive the usual Care2 Connect group invitation via personal message.
We hope that you enjoy this new addition to the Care2 Connect groups, and that it helps to improve the value and quality of your groups.
Host announcements modifications Thursday, 3:52 PM Dec 14, 2006
We have recently modified the host announcement system. Now, the group homepage will only display the most recent host announcement for the group. The older host announcements will still be on the announcement list page.
In addition, members who have not seen the most recent host announcement in the group will be shown it once upon their arrival to the group. Once they have seen the announcement, it will not be shown to that member again until a new announcement is posted in that group.
We feel that this new presentation system will increase the value and visibility of host announcements in their groups. Enjoy!
1/3/2007 - New host feature January 04, 2007 1:31 PM
We've also added the ability for group hosts to delete their own groups!
We are pleased to announce that our engineers were able to launch this feature today. You may access the feature from your group management console. It's labeled, "Delete".
Right now it's available to all basic & branded groups. The process for launching the feature on 'premium' groups is a little more complicated but will be coming soon.
We are excited to announce a great way to keep connected with the Care2 community, a one stop shop for all your favorite Care2 services - The Care2 Toolbar.
Keep up with activity in your Connect groups, personal messages from your friends, have one click access to all the races (as well as notification as to whether you have visited them that day), and more! The best part is all this is available directly on your browser from anywhere on the web!
Click on the 'Get it here' button to download the executable install file. You can either save the file to your computer and run it from there, or select 'run' to install directly from the webpage. The download page recognizes the browser type, so the download button will automatically use the version of the toolbar for the browser you are using. Below the Get it Here button there is a link to other browsers' version of the toolbar. After installing the toolbar, IE users will need to restart their computer, and Firefox users will have to restart their browser before the installation is completed.
How to use the Toolbar
The toolbar uses a series of icons and links to provide you with content from Care2 directly on your browser. If you click on any of the race icons, for instance, you will be taken to that race.
The inbox allows you to go directly to group discussion threads, individual personal messages, or shares. To the right of the inbox, there is an envelope icon to notify you of new mail to your Care2 Inbox. This icon is grey if you do not have new mail, and blue when you do have new email.
The search engine searches Care2 by default, but clicking on the down arrow icon to the right of the magnifying glass icon allows you to change the type of search you wish to do. You can choose to search Care2, the entire web, or the website you are currently on.
For more detailed information about how to use the Care2 Toolbar, please go to the following page:
Absolutely not. The Care2 toolbar uses cookies and session information in order to provide you with current content regarding your account on Care2.com and your groups. We do not store any information regarding browsing habits, or any other personal information with this toolbar. The search engine does record the search terms queried using this toolbar, but the data is not associated with the person searching in any way.
We believe this toolbar is a great tool to keep Care2 members connected with the Care2 community easily no matter what you are doing on the web. Please note that this is a limited beta release of the toolbar, and we are still trying to determine what features and tools are most effective and useful for our members.
In order to facilitate member feedback regarding this new feature, we have created the a group for it. Please join the Care2 Toolbar Beta group If you have feedback regarding the toolbar, please let us know within the group. Remember that this toolbar is intended to serve *you*, so we want to know what kinds of changes you feel would make this a better or more useful and effective toolbar. There are limits to what we can or cannot do on this toolbar, but we welcome any ideas or requests regarding this as we evaluate it and work on future revisions or enhancements to it.
New - Member Timeout tool for hosts December 15, 2006 12:24 PM
We understand that it can be challenging to run an active discussion group. The balance between debate and inappropriate conduct or abusive behavior can be difficult to achieve, particularly when discussing issues that are controversial or elicit strong emotional responses.
This was part of the reason we implemented the Community Watch system, so that a member who does go too far in a group can have time to cool off without posting in the group. We feel such time out periods can be very helpful, and have now added this ability for hosts to use.
Hosts can now put members on a time-out period from the post moderation page (accessed by clicking on the 'delete' button next to a post. Below the options for deleting a post, a host can choose to give a member a temporary time-out from the group, and can choose the length of the time-out. The host may put a member on time-out regardless of whether they choose to delete the post in question.
We hope this tool will help to further empower group hosts to make their groups as effective and valuable as possible.
I sent an email to the White House and got back over 700 replies. Some said deleted because of NULL body whatever that means. I think they are trying to send spyware or cause a denial of service by crashing the server. Please pass this along to everyone you know. Thanks and be carefull, Bush is on the rampage and theres no telling what the meglomaniac will do.

I just wanted to say I may have been wrong to blame the White House for all the emails. I just found out that my ISP has moved twice in the last 2 months and it could have had something to do with that. It does look strange for so many to be from the White House but latter that day there were many unknown ones and they seemed to appear and if I went away and came back latter they would come back so that leads me to believe it was with my ISP. They are a tiny company. Now that I think about it, they wouldn't waste the resorces on such an attack. I apologise if I scared anyone. That was not my intention. Don't be affraid to keep up the good work. I am not one given to knee jerk reactions but in this case I think I let you down. I don't want to pass on false information. That is why I'm writing this. Again I apologise.

Hi Johnny, This thread is intended for Announcements from the Care2 Staff to Care2 Members. Please start a new thread for other topics. I do appreciate your concern, and your correction.
New Tools for Group Hosts: Bulletin Board & Delete Multiple Posts Monday January 22, 6:12 PM
We have two exciting new features we are proud to announce…
Bulletin Board Group Hosts now have access to a private host-only bulletin board within their groups. In this bulletin board they’ll be able to discuss important group issues, current discussion threads, member behavior, and whatever else comes to mind.
Access to the bulletin board will be linked through the Host Toolbox where the links to member suspensions, new event listings, and the group management console are located.
Creating new bulletins and replying to existing mimic the regular discussion pages. Hosts will be notified of new host bulletins on the group homepage. In addition, to better enable hosts to discuss hot threads or posts, it is possible to create a host bulletin which “quotes” a particular post. Hosts can create bulletins about any post in their group by hitting the ‘Host Bulletin’ button on a post.
We believe the group host bulletin feature will greatly improve communication between group hosts.
Delete Multiple Posts While viewing discussion threads, group hosts will now see a delete box instead of the old “Delete” button that used to appear.
Why the new check box? Hosts can now select multiple posts to delete at the same time.
They’ll be able to select as many posts from the thread as they wish to delete. To do so, simply check the boxes for all posts, and click on the ‘Delete Selected Posts’ button at the top or bottom of the thread. Hosts then can either choose the reasons for deletion of each post individually, or they can click the ‘Apply to all posts’ link under the first post to have those selections applied to all deleted posts. This feature is sure to be a big time-saver for hosts and will improve their ability to moderate long threads effectively.
If you have any questions about either of these new tools, please use the appropriate thread below to let us know:
Planned Site Maintenance Feb 1st & 3rd Wednesday, January 31, 5:24 PM
We will be performing routine site maintenance on Thursday, February 1st and Saturday, February 3rd. The site will be unavailable from approximately 9pm to 9:30pm PST on Thursday and 9pm to 9:45pm PST on Saturday.
The maintenance is primarily storage reconfigurations and performance enhancements. We will be moving member images to a higher capacity storage, as well as moving the session management infrastructure to improve site performance.
These infrastructure modifications will not impact any member data or photo galleries. We apologize for any inconvenience caused by these short site down times.
Site Update - Member count adjustment Tuesday Feb 6, 3:02 PM
In order to keep our site content accurate, we periodically purge accounts which have been inactive for an extended period of time. We have just completed this process, as you can see by the lower member count on our homepage. The member count has been reduced by just under 500,000.
We just wanted to clarify that this is not a glitch on the site, we are simply updating our tallies to better represent our current member totals.
C2NN Has a New Look! Active Stories! Tagging! Friday, Feb 9, 10:10 AM
We have just completed a major reorganization of C2NN and also added tagging to the news section. For more details, please see our Announcement Blog Entry. We are very excited for these new changes, and hope that you enjoy them as well!
Planned Care2 Site outage 2-10-07 10 PM PST Friday, Feb 9, 6:02 PM
Hello,
We will be performing site maintenance on Saturday, Feb 10th at 10 pm PST. This is the second half of our scheduled maintenance which began on February 1st. The site will be unavailable from 10PM to approximately 10:45 PM PST.
This maintenance involves moving the location of some of our login and session information to improve site performance. No member data will be affected by this.
Scheduled Email Site Maintenance - 2/15 Wednesday, Feb 14, 4:08 PM
Our email service provider will be doing maintenance on their servers tomorrow night, 2/15/2007. The email site will be unavailable for approximately 4 hours. The down time will begin between 8Pm PST and 10pm PST.
This maintenance is in order to upgrade the email servers to faster machines in order to improve email performance for our members. It will not impact member data or accounts. We apologize for any inconvenience this site outage causes.
Care2 Instant Messenger...Coming Soon! February 15, 2007 1:50 PM
In a few days we will be launching the Care2 Instant Messenger!
This feature is much anticipated by our members and we are excited for the release. Members will have the ability to communicate with other Care2 members instantly without downloading any additional software. Members will also be able to tell if their ‘IM buddies’ are online.
How do I get it? There will be nothing to install. When you log into your Care2 account, you will be logged into Care2 Instant Messenger. All you need is Flash enabled in your browser.
How do I "IM" someone? Look for the "I'm Online" icon () next to your friends’ names and avatars. This tells you your friend is online. Just click this to start an IM conversation. If you have already had am IM conversation with someone, you can go to the ‘My Friends’ page to initiate another IM with them.
What controls do I have? You may choose from the following communication options: - Allow only your friends to IM you - Allow anyone on Care2 to IM you - Turn it off – allow nobody to initiate IM with you (or see that you’re online)
What if I don’t want it on all the time? No problem, you can change your availability on & off at any time. This will hide your IM icon so your friends will know you’re not available for IM during that time.
Right now we're working out the kinks and getting it ready for launch. If all goes well, you'll be seeing it in a few days. Please try it out, play with your settings and give us your feedback.
Thanks! Care2 Customer Support =============================
Introducing Instant Messenger and more! Thursday, March 1, 4:48 PM
We are happy to announce the release of many new exciting features!
Care2 Instant Messenger
All accounts now have the ability to Instant Message other users on the Care2 network.
When logged into your account you should see a circle in parenthesis next to your name in the upper right corner. If your dot is green, your IM is turned on. If your dot is gray, IM is turned off. To change your IM settings, click on the dot and toggle your IM availability on or off.
Ready to start IM’ing? It’s easy to get started, go to your friends list, any friend who has IM turned on will have a green dot next to their name. Click on the dot and start a conversation.
To find out more about IM and how it works, check out our recent host announcement.
Edit your own posts
Within groups you now have the ability to edit your own posts. Whether you are creating a new thread topic, replying to an existing thread, or writing a host announcement after you hit submit you have the option to go back and make changes. How this works...
You must hit the 'Edit Post' button within a minute of submitting your post. You must submit your changes to the post within 5 minutes of pressing the edit button.
Why the time limit? Some features are prone to abuse by members. While most members would only use the feature to enhance their posts & fix spelling errors, some users might use the feature for baiting and switching. All posts that have been edited will be marked with at tag reading, "This post was modified from its original form on [date & time]."
Increased Default Font
Yay! I know you’re excited about this one. The default font size for Care2 Groups has been increased to 12pt. We received your feedback about increasing the default font size in other areas of the site. Please know your suggestion has been heard. We plan to increase the default font size for other areas of the site in future upgrades.
Embed Video into your Discussion Posts
You may now include videos in your discussion posts and doing so is easy. Here’s how…
Find and copy a link to a video on YouTube, Google, etc. Then reply to the thread of your choosing. In your reply type “video:” directly after the colon paste in the video’s URL (no spaces).
Group Host Member Tool
Our engineers have developed a great new tool to help hosts track member activity in groups. When logged in as host of a group, you will now see a "Group History" link under user profile images within discussion threads. This link will bring you to a page where you'll have access to the following user specific information:
* View Post History - View all posts made by a user within the group * View Suspension History - View date & length of member time-outs within the group * Host Notes - Add/view notes about a user (written and viewable only by group hosts) * Block/Unblock Member - Click button to change the user's status within the group
These tools are intended to ease communication between hosts of larger groups with high levels of user activity. All the information in the group history tool is group-specific.
New Member Notification
Now hosts have an easy way of tracking new members to their group. Look for the ‘View Newest Members’ link on the group homepage. This link is located near the Group Management Console link and will take you to a page that shows the list of your group’s newest members.
We are excited to bring you all these new features. As always we want your feedback. Please test them out and let us know what you like, what you feel could be improved and how you would like to see it improved.
We will be having a brief site outage tonight, March 11th at 10pm. The outage will fix a problem with some of our web servers not displaying Daylight Saving Time correctly.
Improvements Released to Invite Member Tools Wednesday, March 21 4:45 PM
There are two very cool new ways to invite your friends to join the groups that are important to you.
One is on the group homepage. Click on the ‘Invite Friends’ button. From here you may invite directly from your friends list. Friends that are already members of the group or have already been invited will be marked and grayed out to prevent spamming the wrong people. You may also send emails to your friends who are not yet on your friends list and/or part of the Care2 network.
Two is accessible to group hosts through the group management console. Members may invite new contacts using either a comma delimited file* or by pasting/typing in the comma delimited information into the designated box.
Happy inviting...
*A bug currently exists with the import .csv tool that our engineers are currently working to address. We hope to have the bug fixed asap.
New Race to Stop Global Warming! Wed, April 11, 11:50 AM
Carbon - and other greenhouse gases - released into the air by power plants and cars contribute to global warming.
Come and Check Out Our New Race to Stop Global Warming!
Many Care2 members are very concerned about climate change and have expressed an interest in doing more to help slow the problem. With these concerns in mind, Care2 is very excited to offer a new, free service to help slow global warming every single day. All you have to do is visit the Race to Stop Global Warming and click the "Offset 1 Pound of Carbon" button to remove a pound of CO2 - a greenhouse gas that contributes to global warming - from the atmosphere for FREE. Care2 will then make a donation to pay for the removal.
Carbon - and other greenhouse gases - released into the air by power plants and cars contribute to global warming. When you click the offset button, Care2 supports programs that sequester greenhouse gases. By sequestering these gases rather than allowing them to be released into the atmosphere, Care2 allows every racer to offset some part of their contribution to global warming.
You can click the offset button up to once per day, and to offset even more carbon you can invite your friends to click as well. You will be able to monitor the carbon offset by your friends and their friends and their friends as well.
As some of our most active members, we really look forward to your feedback on the new Race. We will be starting a new thread for this topic and welcome your input.
I have some good news. I've just been informed by our engineers that fixes have been released for Group Messaging and the Image Cache issues. Yay!
Group Messaging has one script left to run before it is complete. There are a whole backlog of images that need to be updated too. Once the backlog is complete the images should appear right way after uploading (and refreshing of course!).
Care2 launched a new section today called Green Living - with tips and information for living a healthy and more sustainable life. Care2 Green Living has replaced the Healthy Living section. The most obvious change you’ll notice is the new design. Big thanks to our designers for bringing us an easy-to-navigate, sleek new design. We love it and hope you do too!
This section still offers all of Annie's wonderful solutions for living healthier, plus our new polls feature. We have also improved our Ask Annie feature! With this feature you’ll be able to submit questions to Annie directly through the Green Living pages, and have your question featured on the site, or you can read through questions submitted by other members.
Another feature that was recently added is the ability to comment on Annie’s solutions and view comments from other readers. Readers are loving this new feature. They have the opportunity to share their experiences, feedback, and suggestions for new solutions. Annie loves this new feature too! During a recent meeting she told us that this feature has helped to put a face to her readers and that her team feels a greater sense of connectedness with those who read their solutions. She’s been soaking up the feedback so keep it coming!
We are excited to introduce our new and improved Petitionsite!
With the new changes, signing and creating petitions will be faster and easier than ever. Our new edit-in-place creation tool allows you to preview your petition while you're writing it. Additionally, creators can easily write their own promotional text for display on the petition site browse pages. This feature is slick...you can add a photo and your own personalized blurb about your petition. Our one-page process makes signing a petition quicker than ever. Plus our category pages make finding petitions on issues you care about a snap.
Before we shift all petitions to this new format, we are interested in your feedback about the new system. While you currently will see the new look of the PetitionSite pages on the site, the create petition links currently still point to the old system. If you would like to try out the new system and provide us your feedback on the process, please go here. To send in your comments or feedback, please use our help form, and select ‘New PetitionSite Beta’ under the PetitionSite category. Thanks for helping us to make our new PetitionSite even better!
Care2 S. Making Care2 Easier to Use... Friday August 3, 10:05 AM
Just wanted to give everyone a "Head's up!" and a "Don't panic!
Several months ago Care2 launched an internal initiative to find ways to make Care2 easier to use, make it easier for our new visitors to discover the many ways they can make a difference on our site. There are lots of great things happening at Care2, but (and we'll be the first to admit this), sometimes it's hard to find them. Over the next few months we will be rolling out updates to our interface that we've been working on.
Next week you're going to see our first update. A change to Care2 Connect. C2C is one of the best kept secrets here at Care2. It has become one of the most important and lively parts of the Care2 experience. In essence we realized that Care2 is Care2 Connect, and Care2 Connect is Care2. To reflect this we have promoted the most important parts of C2C to a higher level of prominence on the site.More...
Our engineers have scheduled a one hour site outage for Tuesday night at 10pm (Pacific Time) to perform some maintenance on our system. The Care2 website will be unavailable during this time. Thank you for your understanding and patience.
Care2 S. Tech Issue: I'm not receiving Care2 messages October 08, 2007 3:37 PM
Not receiving Care2 messages including group tracking, personal message notifications, action alerts and/or newsletters...
Troubleshooting: Messaging Problems October 08, 2007 3:38 PM
If you are having trouble receiving group messages and other Care2 notifications please check that you've added Care2 to your safe list. This is a common issue for Hotmail, AOL and other free email services. These providers often have layers of filtering that occur in an attempt to keep spam from reaching your account. Sometimes Care2 mail is blocked by those filters. One step you can take to prevent this from continuing in the future is to add our domain to your safe list.
For hotmail users:
-Login -Click on Options (upper right corner) -Click on Safe and blocked senders -Click on Blocked Senders and make sure we aren't on that list -Click on Safe Senders and add @care2.com to your list
Sorry, I don't have step-by-step instructions for the other providers but it should be a very similar process.
If you have added us to your safe list but are still not receiving your messages, please notify our support team here or through our help form. Our support team will perform a series of checks to help identify the problem.
Care2 S. Announcement: Check out the Daily Action Center changes... October 30, 2007 5:21 PM
Changes were released earlier today to the Daily Action pages. Find out more...
Thank you to all of the users who've been submitting suggestions for future daily actions to this group. You'll be happy to hear about the new 'suggestions' field located on the Daily Action page itself. You're still welcome to discuss ideas here but we'll ask you to please submit them using the new submission form. Here's a snapshot of the form which can be found here:

Hello,
We would like to inform you of a planned site outage set for Thursday, November 15. The outage will be starting at 8 pm PST and may take up to two hours. This outage will be happening in order for us to release our newly redesigned E-Cards site.
We are very excited about this and hope that you will all be just as pleased as we are with the new site.
Have you seen Care2's new subscription center? If not, we encourage you to check it out. Care2 users now have a place view & manage all newsletter subscriptions from one organized and easy-to-use page.

*New* Send eCards to your Friends list Friday Dec 14, 11:36 AM
Hello!
We are excited to announce that we have now implemented a frequently requested change to the eCards system. It is now possible to send eCards directly to people on your friends list!
This feature was a long time in coming, and we are really thrilled to finally support the functionality. So how does it work? Now, when you are sending an eCard, if you click on the 'Care2' address book button, your Care2 friends will come up as well as your email contacts in the window. Care2 friends are denoted by a small frog image -next to their names. To preserve email address privacy, friend to friend eCard notifications are delivered via the personal messaging system. If you receive an eCard from a friend, you will be able to reply to them via eCard which will also be delivered via personal message.
We know that this feature is something many of you have been longing for, and hope that you enjoy it!!!
We have some bug fixes and other releases that are ready to roll-out. Therefore, we are planning a site outage to facilitate the roll-out. The outage is scheduled to begin at 9pm PST and will last approximately 45 minutes.
We appreciate your understanding and patience while our engineers work on improving our service.
Sincerely, Kristen Care2 Support
This is coming up fast - 2 hours from now! Saturday, January 5 2008
"Noted" glitch fixed Wednesday January 16, 5:11 PM Hello,

Care2 S. Planned Site Outage [posted 4:50 PM jan 31]
Hello folks!
We had an outage scheduled for tomorrow night but need to move the outage forward. The new scheduled time is tonight at midnight for approximately 1 hour (PST).
Care2 S. Toolbar Maintenance [Tuesday, Feb 12, 10:47 AM]
Hello Care2 Toolbar users,
Our engineers will be performing maintenance on the Care2 Toolbar over the next few days. During the maintenance you may see delays in updates for your message counts and race clicks. Normally these counts update every 20 minutes or so. While the engineers are working on things the update time may increase to approximately 2 hours. We appreciate your patience.
There will be a planned site outage this evening at 10pm Pacific Time. Our engineers will be releasing some upgrades to the site including the much anticipated Groups upgrade. The outage is expected to last approximately 1 hour. We apologize for the short notice.
Take a Tour of the Groups Redesign 02/26/08 Hello! As you can see, Groups have changed. To take a tour of the new group design, please click click here.
We are still working out some kinks with the new design and would love your help. If you come across a feature that is not behaving as it should, please share your feedback here.
03/03/08 In an effort to keep our 'total members' count accurate, we periodically purge Care2 member accounts that are no longer in use. Today we reduced the count by nearly 500,000 to more accurately reflect the number of active Care2 members.
Thank you for taking the time to check in on these issues. Group messaging and butterflies are two outstanding issues that are not related to the lasted group release. They have both been reported to our engineers and are in line to be addressed soon. Right now our engineer is addressing the group invitation error (another non-release related group bug). We hope to have this resolved today or tomorrow.
What else has been addressed?
New-style groups: White pages intermittently appearing throughout groups Topic settings is almost fixed
Old-style groups: Now able to close & reopen threads
Behind the scene issues addressed: Abuse prevention tool for blocking spammers on C2NN
Sincerely, Kristen Care2 Support
P.S. There have been more bugs released since this was posted. A follow-up announcement is on the way.
*Group invitations to email addresses are fixed *Group invitations to all friends not invited recently invited are fixed *Reason for post deletion now included in new-style group notifications - The exclamation point in the subject line removed to lessen the sting *Issues with topic settings in new-style groups are fixed *Group messaging issues are fixed or almost fixed
For those who missed yesterday's update
In an effort to improve communication regarding bug fixes to the group, we'll be posting bug fix updates as host announcements moving forward. We'll try to located individual threads on the subject and post a link but if we miss some, please be free to do the same.
Butterflies were restored on Friday. We wanted to wait until we knew it worked for sure before posting. I just checked a couple accounts and they are back. They updated retroactively so credit was given for petitions and clicks during the time they butterflies were absent. Sincerely, Kristen Care2 Support

Due to popular demand by our valued Care2 users, we have increased the number of hosting positions in each group from 5 to 8. We hope this change will help the hosts of our active Care2 groups to manage their groups more effectively.
Please check out our latest announcement regarding a new Care2 email interface that's on the way!
Sincerely, Kristen Care2 Support
This is happening today! 04/01/08
The email upgrade we told you about a couple weeks back is happening today. If you see anything funky during the transition please sit tight and know that it may take some time for all your mail and folders to transfer over.
The engineers will be performing site maintenance on Thursday evening at 10pm Pacific time. The outage is expected to last approximately 1.5 hours. We appreciate your patience while our engineers perform this important task.
Our engineers are planning a site outage for Thursday evening at 10pm Pacific time. The outage will last approximately 1 to 2 hours. During this outage, our engineers will be working to bring you the enhancements highlighted in our last host announcement.
It's an exciting time here at Care2!
We're launching a new and improved Green Living section in April. To
check out the page tour and preview the new features, please visit:
The upgrade will include more daily content, new categories, easier browsing, and an improved look and feel.
We're
also transitioning our Green Living newsletters to a new format that
will allow you to customize your mailings with all the great tips,
stories and recipes you've come to love from Annie B. Bond and the
Care2 editors. You'll select the types of stories you'd like to
receive, and how often you'd like to receive them. Your new selections
will eventually replace the current Healthy Home, Green Living, Spa
Secrets and Eat Well Naturally newsletters. We hope you enjoy the new
format!
Our
engineers have been working on a number of bugs associated with the
Groups redesign. These bugs have not yet made to the live site because
they are waiting for testing and release by our QA team. We know it's
frustrating to feel like things aren't getting done so we wanted to
post the list of the items that will be coming soon.
BUG 7048: Theme chooser optimization BUG 7070: Make advanced browser respect single line spacing BUG 7077: Changing theme shows error no more BUG 7083: Moderated forums now working properly BUG 7107: Error now explains must add image to upload for custom themes BUG 7211: Unstuck "Responsible Business" group from the new style BUG 7225: X works to dismiss preview editor window BUG 7245: theme chooser no longer redirecting to group home page at random times
We hope to have these released very soon. Thank you all for your patience, feedback & understanding.
Another
reminder...this weekend the Care2 website will become "read-only" while
our engineers move our data to more energy-efficient servers. During
the outage you will not be able to post any new content on the website
(such as pictures, comments, discussion posts, send messages, green
stars, etc.) with the exception of signing petitions. The outage goes
into effect Friday evening at 7pm and will last most likely until
Sunday night.
Tonight:
Thursday
at 11pm (Pacific) the engineers will be performing tests on the website
for approximately a half hour. During this time you may experience
periods of slow page loads and possibly a site-outage.
Move to the new GREENER data center is now complete!

you updated and should have some positive news in the next couple hours.

We have
some really exciting news. After stating our case about the site
having WAY too many unresolved issues lately we finally have everyone's
attention. For the next 4 weeks (starting this past Monday) our
engineers will be working entirely on fixing bugs. All new projects
are on hold until after this 4 week period. This means the site
redesign (that was introduced to you about a month ago) will be
delayed. This also means our support team will be working closely with
the engineers to help them understand the problems you all have
reported and help them test the fixes they make.
We will
try to keep you all informed of what's being worked on but we may not
always know. I'm going to apologize in advance if we aren't responding
as often to threads, it's because we are working on getting all the
annoying problems that you've been reporting to us fixed and released
to the website. We are so very excited for this news and look forward
to less buggy Care2.
I think these features will address many of the concerns weve heard from you.If they arent working
right or theres another way we can make the petition alert feature better, please let us know! Related Discussion Thread
Regarding the additional filter requests for group
invitations, etc. -- We definitely have heard your request and I have
added it to our database of requested features.Well be sure to update
F&S when weve got some good news to report on it, I just don't have anything concrete I can report at this time.
I'd like to mention that in addition to the several updates I've posted, there have been a dozen or so Planned Site Outages, and, unfortunately, a few unplanned ones. The site experienced serious issues the weekend of June 7 & 8th and the team has been working hard to resolve them.
Now that the emergency is over, the engineers are back to tracking down and fixing the glitches we have been reporting for some time.
I encourage everyone to exercise patience and perseverence with the bright hope this site is getting better everyday!
Peace, Teil
P.S. Please use the Help Request Form to report any technical problems you have. Include as much information as you can, to help the C2Team help you.
We've
just received an update from IT team regarding the site's current
performance. The site should be behaving normally once again with two
exceptions:
1. The "1969" time/date issue. We hope to have this resolved within a day.
2.
Some pages may not load properly. We hope to have this remedied within
a few day's time frame. It is the number 1 priority! The good news is
that only the pages already experiencing this should be affected. All
pages that are loading properly should continue to load properly.
We appreciate your patience as our IT teams works hard to fix the remaining issues!
