anonymous Thank You & Clarification December 04, 2006 6:42 PM

Teilflock and Dynamite, thanks for the replies. I'm glad I came across Care2.com. But to explain a little better, I am able to use the smilies -- I just am not up on the graphics like the art, cartoons, and glitter messages that people send to their friends' personal pages. My daughter gave me the name of a good site that supplies graphics for MySpace pages. That makes one source for me to use. But I practiced by putting pictures on my own page on Care2, and had only one picture that actually worked! A few others I tried produced only red Xs. I had to go to a UK site I found with Google in order to get 2 animated animal graphics to show up.

Do you have any suggestions as to sources for graphics (other than smilies) -- or is that sort of a "trade secret" that no one wants to divulge?? And how do you make sure you're going to get an actual picture and not just the red X??

 December 05, 2006 4:07 AM

OH! So you know how to use the features I totally missunderstood that before There are some groups here that have graphics.
GRAFIX GURUS
Globe's And More
Avatar Alley
Mantha's Graphics.
The Gif Connection#2
: )

All of those have open membership, so you can look around before joining In some of them, somebody will make a graphic and then you tell them you want one and they will put your name (or then name you request) on them.

As far as the world wide web... I think they're just found at odd places except for the smilies and animals and such (like you have on your page now).
For words and stuff there are places like trippytext.com and there you'll find links to pimp text, glitter text, etc.
Is there anything particular you're looking for?

And please read these threads (or refer back to them)...
Using the message features
Posting graphics or pictures in posts
The Basic Editor and HTML

And you already know about hotlinking(bandwidth stealing)?

Hello and Welcome! December 14, 2006 1:52 PM

Hello, Joseph, I hope you and your girlfriend find much useful info here, and enjoy Care2! Check out the topics, and speak up about whatever!

Hi Jenny! Its kind of a silly thing about the green stars - I'
m hoping that will be changed eventually. In the meantime, check out this thread 'Making Friends' before you get too caught up in the friends list mania. Enjoy your exploration!

Peace, Teilflock

Hello I am new to this sight. What are the green stars, how do I get and or give them? Thanks for the info!  [ send green star]  [ accepted]

green stars January 05, 2007 6:27 AM

Amber, I'm new to Care2 (at least the groups, etc) also.  I find the green stars very odd.  This is what the official description says of them:
"It's a simple "Thank You" from a Care2 member. There's no need to respond. The sender is simply acknowledging that you've made a contribution to the community. Green Stars may be sent because you made a good post in a discussion forum, or because you took the time to make your personal profile interesting, or for a thousand other good reasons. Don't know what you did to deserve the praise? If the person has revealed their identity you may contact them through their profile page, otherwise, don't worry — be happy, you're appreciated! Enjoy!"

You can send them to someone from their profile page..Just click on their name or picture.  Hope this helps.

peace

Amber, Tennessee, and Nerva!

The ability to send green stars is linked to your network size. I suggest you also read the thread 'Making Friends' [there's a link to it in my earlier post] before you decide whether to send or accept Friends links. You get Green stars by participating in groups - often people who like what, or how you say something will send you a green star. Also, spending some time to make your profile interesting and inviting may result in more stars for you - any number of things may do so.

On another note, people get Blue Butterflys for clicking to donate, and for signing petitions.
"
Butterflies are Care2's way of saying "thank you" for taking the time to make a difference. Members receive butterflies for signing Petitions, creating a petition, clicking on Care2's "Click to Donate" Races, and completing Daily Actions. "

The other icon that appears below members' Avatars is the Golden Note [the yellow square], which comes from submitting a story to C2NN that makes it to the Front Page.

Nerva, you may want to start a new thread about how to deal with strange or difficult people. It kind of depends on what kind of interaction you are having with them, what kind of action you might want to take.

Peace, Teilflock

PS remember: its free to Click to Donate to save Big Cat Habitat, and other worthy causes.

More on Green Stars January 06, 2007 5:25 PM

Tennessee you bring up something I've been wondering about:  When I receive  Green Stars from people that DO identify themselves, am I "supposed" to respond by writing them a note?

OR if I DO write them a note, am I considered weird, gooey, or otherwise silly?

Thanks for the advice.

Thanks.

Green Stars January 07, 2007 6:44 AM

Golda,  I've been wondering the same!  Hmmm....what IS the appropriate way to respond to a green star (if at all)?  Another question:  At what point should this become a new topic since it is not really "introductions" anymore?  (Oh I've got more questions...but I'll save them for other threads

peace.

Nerva,
There are a number of options available and I've sketched out several in "
Problems with members at Care2". I hope you find what you need there, if you need more help, please let us know.

Tennessee and Golda,
The Green Stars are meant to be a quick acknowlegdement or thank you, so you have to judge for yourself whether that gesture warrents a response. I have heard of many people sending stars to people who sent them stars. To me that is saying thank you for saying thank you. I also know of people who occassionally contact people to ask them why the star was sent, but that often people don't remember the specifics. I also know of many people who definately do not want to be acknowledged for it, and have taken to sending anonymously to avoid it. Personally, I do not respond to stars directly, but try to keep that person in mind and be sure to reply to them positively in the threads of groups we share. However you approach them, it is these interactions from which friendships may begin to develop ...

Peace, Teilflock

anonymous Hello, February 01, 2007 7:50 PM

I've just recently come back to C2C....glad to be here cause I missed it!

I'm having a problem with my profile page though. When I click on a few of my friends profiles it appears then disappears quickly, then it says that Internet Explorer can not display this page. I'm receiving this message also, after I tried to get the 'help' request form filled out.

I hope someone can help me figure out what the problem is!

and Welcome back, Mish!
I'm not sure what the problem would be without more info, Mish. There have been some recent issues with Unresponsive Scripts, and delays in loading pictures. As far as I know, the script problem has been resolved, and the Image loading is meant to be improved by the Site Maintenance this weekend. If the problem continues, please start a new thread and provide a copy of the error message you receive. I take it you were unable to finish submitting the Help Form because of the error? If so, let us know that as well, and perhaps one of us can submit it on your behalf.

Peace, Hope and Greetings!

Hi Everyone February 03, 2007 10:26 AM

I am new to Care2 and have already made a friend (Thanks Liz!). My name is Pete and I live in California. I work at a transitional housing facility for homeless veterans with substance abuse issues. I am also a Franciscan who is involved my church and supervises a wonderful musical group of young people who I love very much (I'm the old man amongst these young musicans in my picture).

Even though I am new here, I have already been blessed with warmth and fellowship in this community and I am looking forward to meeting many new friends here and sharing stories and experiences. God's blessings and peace to you all.

You all brought back memories... I couldn't remember if you had to have at least one friend to send stars, or if it was that you had to receive a star to send them, so I sent everyone a star. If you don't like a person the best suggestion is to ignore them. If the bother you then go to Care2 feedback and suggestions and you can file a report. You also have the ability to block them from contacting you. You may have to go to their page to do it. Click on their picture and the 'Block Contact' is just below the 'Send Star.' Good luck everyone, and I hope you enjoy your time on this site. There are lots of great people on here!!! HAPPY EASTER!!! Respectfully and sincerely, Electra  [ send green star]  [ accepted]

 April 08, 2007 2:59 PM

Hi Electra,
You are right about ignoring troublemakers! It is a skill well worth developing. Blocking them is also a good strategy. However, I just wanted to clarify that if you have more serious problems with someone on Care2, you should not go to the Feedback and Suggestions group. Go to the person's profile and click the little red flag at the bottom of their page. That brings up a form for reporting abuse and problems with an individual. Provide any evidence you have. It goes to C2 and they do their own investigation, and take appropriate action.

I have been using Care2 off and on for a while, but had never done much with the profile, etc. I would use the petition site, read articles, etc.

I am trying to get my profile a little less generic looking now and join some groups... so I will probably have plenty of questions

I look forward to meeting new friends here.   Stephanie

Hi

You did tel your name but you are from Sydney. Ok a nice city, clean and people are more civilized than my real home. My real home is Boston Ma but live and work in China. Love it more than there and feel more at home.

Pets well none really. I cannot have them here but like dogs and of course the panda. Roos are cute and like them as well. Been down your way a few times. I did go to that big rock but foundit very boring really but know that the people there love it and is part of life.

Not married anymore and got rid of her back in 1990 since our relationship turned sour and she thought that her mom was more important than a husband. Never saw her again and feel good about this. I hear she still thiks more of her mom and puts her first. Anyway that is over.

Take care

New to Care 2 and Group Hosting September 01, 2007 10:21 AM

Thank you for having this group available! I have a 1 year-old who just started walking and it is difficult to find time to figure out how everything works and all the jargon (there are many things I haven't even used yet on my group page)! At least I got the tool bar and do the free clicks every day.

I don't know anyone in the Care 2 network (or I don't know if I know anyone), so it may take a while before I get a lot of membership (2 thus far). I started a group called Drive Aware For A Safer Traffic Environment, and if you want the whole explanation, go here:  *group:drive_aware*
The jist of it is that I want people in general to try to be more conscious of - and conscientious with - their driving habits. Anyway, here I am and thanks for having me!

Hi,
I am Judy and I have been a C2 member for a while.  Last year I got totally involved with groups and decided to start my own.  One of my C2 friends said she would be co-host but has really done nothing to help me.  It just feels like it is taking so long to get this off the ground...  I will hang in a little bit longer, but one problem is that I cannot get colored type or background.  Also I have tried to change the group picture without much success.
Any suggestions.  Thank you for all the help you give us.  [ send green star]  [ accepted]

I put a link to Care2 on my website, www.steinbergforcongress.com, perhaps that will help more people get involved. I invite you to read and comment on my site. You can also find me on Facebook and MySpace and I look forward to getting to know the people on Care2.

Hello.

I'm not running for anything, just new here and introducing myself politely.

There is a lot of useful information in this group, thank you very much. I would like to send you green stars, but it says I'm not allowed to, sorry.

Happy Saturday May 03, 2008 8:25 AM

Good morning.  I am new to care 2 and pretty new to moving around on the internet.  I just wanted to introduce myself.  I am Dawn Andrea.  I am 44, a single mom of two nearly adult boys.  Dustin is 20 and Danny is 18.  I am in the process of re-relocating back to South Carolina.  I have bounced back between Connecticut and South Carolina since I left home at 18.  South Carolina always seemed like home even though I was raised a "yankee".  I am looking forward to trying on a new life as me  not just a mom, even though it breaks my heart that my kids chose to stay in Connecticut.    I know that I am going to need lots of friends in the coming months as I grow into this new life.  Please keep me in your prayers!

Lots of love, hugs and prayers to all!!!!!!

Dawn Andrea

Welcomeeveryone!

I hope you are all finding the information you need to help answer your questions about the features [and quirks] of Care2! There are lots of threads where great info has been shared, both in the pinned threads above, and in some of the threads that don't archive, but hang out at the bottom of the page. However, if you can't find an answer, do feel free to start a new thread for your question, or add it to the appropriate related thread!

Have fun exploring!

 Peace, Teil

Hi everyone, I´m a Brazilian girl who loves making new friends all over the world. I think this site must be a great place to make new friends as I suppose people here love nature and animals as I do.

Hi and Welcome!

This is what Care2 says about Golden Notes:

Golden Notes are awarded for outstanding content submissions as recognized by the Care2 community. It's recognition from Care2 members for outstanding contribution of content. When enough members say your content submission is "noteworthy" (by clicking on the "Note it" link) your content will make the Care2 Front Page. When it does, you'll receive a "Golden Note" to recognize this outstanding achievement.

To find this info, and more, open "my account" with the link at top right of the page. Click any of the topics under Kudos, and you will also find a section that explains and tracks your Golden Notes.
To submit or note news stories, go to News in the grey bar across the top of the page. You'll see the most popular news stories, and tabs to take you to where you can submit your own, or Note newly submitted stories.

Peace, Teil

hi joanne...i think this is a very useful group, especially for newer members...if they are lucky enough to find it. it's much gentler in approach than F&S which can be off-putting to new people.
i wish they would use the new group format, but that's my main complaint.
