Who We Are: Campaign for Cooperation in Space is a Coordinated International Network For Breakthrough, Enrolling U.N. Member Governments, Non-Governmental Organizations, Media, and the People to Implement A Permanent Ban on Weapons in Space.
Our Vision: Together, we can put an end to the highly profitable war industry by putting our differences aside, uniting and working together by promoting win-win solutions to decision makers. Before our perpetual war economy expands into space, we must ban space weapons. A coordinated strategy to get world leaders to sign a treaty banning space weapons will put a lid on the war economy and result into a cooperative, democratic Space Age society that goes beyond fear and honours all life, instead of destroying it. With today's technology, a peace based economy can be just as profitable as a war based economy.
WE the People of Earth hereby Petition the United Nations General Assembly to have a Space Preservation Treaty permanently banning all space-based weapons and warfare in space ready for signature by all U.N. Member Nations by United Nations Day, 2005 [October 24, 2005].
IF the United Nations General Assembly fails approve a Space Preservation Treaty by October 24, 2005, then the General Assembly shall convene a Space Preservation Treaty Conference to ban all space-based weapons and warfare in space, as Canada did in the 1997 Ottawa Land Mines Treaty Conference, to be held in Victoria-Vancouver, B.C. in June 2006, as part of the World Peace Forum 2006.
Say "No" to Japan's Plan to Kill Humpback Whales Target: The Ambassadors of Denmark ; of Switzerland ; of China ; of South Korea Sponsor: International Fund for Animal Welfare
DEADLINE: Ongoing ...
Famous for serenading the seas with their haunting melodies, the humpback whale has been protected since 1966, when it was on the brink of extinction from commercial whaling. But a new threat has emerged, as media reports indicate that Japan is now seeking to resume commercial whaling of humpbacks, defying international agreements and sanctuaries under the guise of "scientific research."

1) Sign the Declaration of Independence from Oil and help put us on the road to a peaceful energy revolution and an oil free future!
2) Pass it on! Tell your friends, family and coworkers to help unite Americans to declare independence from oil!
3) Add your voice to the online discussion about Freedom from Oil at the Rainforest Action Network blog!
Let's be honest. Our country has become far too dependent, even addicted, to oil. We consume over 25 percent of the world’s oil, yet we make up less than 5 percent of the world’s population.
Did you know that transportation accounts for over 70 percent of America’s oil consumption? Yikes, that’s a lot of oil! And of all the automakers, Ford Motor Company’s cars, trucks and SUVs waste the most gas.
So then, how do we end our oil dependence? Start with American automakers. By convincing them to immediately increase the fuel efficiency of their vehicles, America can take a major step towards declaring independence from oil. Read the Declaration of Independence from Oil here.
Americans deserve better. Our country is a symbol of justice, democracy, and hope. American ingenuity and determination has cured polio and put a man on the moon. We can create a world powered by safe, secure, and sustainable energy.
What Happens Next?
We’ll deliver the declaration to Vice President Dick Cheney, the architect of America's energy policy, and Bill Ford Jr., CEO of Ford Motor Company, America's biggest gas guzzler and demand that they take responsible action to end America’s dependence on oil.
Iraq's existing laws regarding women's rights are some of the most progressive in the Middle East, guaranteeing women the right to vote, attend school, run for political office, and own property. But Article14 of the new draft constitution aims to replace these laws with Islamic Sharia law - which could dramatically affect women's rights in marriage, court, education and the political system. The draft constitution also does not guarantee Iraqi women a substantial representation in Parliament, as the current interim constitution does.
A renewed interpretation of Sharia law would turn back the clock on women's rights in Iraq. As the occupier of Iraq, the United States is obligated to uphold international law guaranteeing human rights for all Iraqi people, including the full range of rights for women.
Stand up for Iraqi women! Send a letter to Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice today and urge her to advocate to protect the rights of women in Iraq by working with the Iraqi government to repeal Article 14 and guarantee women's rights under the law.

New Petition: Campaign to Reduce Fine-Particle Emissions in Cities
Dear All!
This is a huge subject to tackle. Fine-particle emissions mainly from cars, buses, trucks, motorbikes and scooters in the cities have not only impact on our health but also new-born babies, animals, pets, trees, plants... Researcher Ari Lampinen, scientist based in the University of Jyväskylä, Finland, very kindly helped me to create this new petition. If you are interested to use the same concept or to modify, and to petition authorities in your country or/and city, please, contact me. I just would like to know about it and possibly cooperate with you. We are in the same boat. feel free to post your friends. thank you!!
Campaign to Reduce Fine-Particle Emissions in Cities
We undersigned urge the Government of Finland immediately to tranpose The Directive (2003/30/EC) that requires 2% of all road traffic fuels sold be biofuels in 2005 progressively increasing to reach a minimum of 5.75% of fuels sold in 2010. We undersigned strongly urge Finland to exceed these goals, and to represent this plan in the conference of ASEM countries to be held in Helsinki, 2006, in September. We undersigned also strongly urge making electric cars and other zero emission vehicles like scooters and electric bicycles available for consumers with competititve prices by means of taxation.
Stavros Dimas, EU Commissioner for the Environment, says: “Most of us live in cities – so the quality of our urban environment is an issue of daily concern. European environmental legislation is already delivering cleaner air, improved wastewater treatment and many other benefits. We are now looking to see how we can best exploit the positive links between these laws, and how best to support local authorities in their efforts to improve the urban environment. We are seeking the views of citizens and experts alike on this.”

We, the Undersigned, endorse the following petition: Automakers v. the People Targets: Automobile Industry; Alliance of Automobile Manufacturers Sponsor: Union Of Concerned Scientists
Automakers Talk Environment then Sue to Stop Clean Car Choice
In order to protect the health of the planet and its inhabitants, governments and industries around the world are beginning to focus their attention on reducing global warming emissions. And the state of California is leading the way, having recently passed a landmark law to reduce heat-trapping emissions from cars, trucks, and SUVs.
But instead of doing their fair share to curb these harmful gases, the Alliance of Automobile Manufacturers, including self-described environmental leaders such as Ford and Toyota, recently sued the people of California to block this law! Honda, Nissan and the Association of International Automobile Manufacturers have also joined the lawsuit.

are there any americans out that feel the answer to our problems in the US auto air and overcrowded road problems start by the fact that during the turn of the 1920s the auto companies bought up the pubic transportion trains in most of our major cites and ripped out the rails forceing us no way to get around but to buy a car...why not start by sueing the auto makers to in reinstall the rail systems in our towes and citys....after all it is thier fault american is in the mess we are in and the cause of the ozone warnings we have posted in the city.

Opt Out of Junk Mail Last month, New American Dream launched a petition drive calling on the chairs and ranking members of Congress's postal oversight committees to commission a Do Not Junk registry that will empower Americans to easily opt-out of unwanted ad mail. TAKE ACTION: ORGANIZE AN ANTI-WAR VIGIL, RALLY OR OTHER PEACE EVENT FOR THE DAY AFTER THE 2,000th U.S. SOLDIER IS KILLED IN IRAQ The sad day is coming when the 2,000th U.S. soldier will have died in Iraq. When President Bush signed the executive order taking away community "prevailing wage" standards for construction workers who will rebuild the Gulf Coast, he took hope from working families trying to put their lives back together. MEDICARE CUTS Unless Congress acts this year, Medicare will cut the amount it reimburses doctors for treating America's seniors by a staggering 4.4% on January 1, 2006. In fact, the 2004 Medicare Trustees report predicts that doctors' payment rates will be cut by 26% from 2006-2013. If these cuts take effect, doctors all over the country may be forced to close their doors to Medicare patients. That means that many seniors (and persons w/ disabilities) will have their healthcare options drastically reduced. http://patientsactionnetwork.org/content_letter.aspx?AlertID=70&UserID=3c1d6877-3cf5-4948-8ae4-8154a724f64b

I realize the alert volume has been higher than usual (~2 a month), but sometimes we are at the mercy of events - such as the alert below which details the World Bank's vote this Thursday whether they will fund logging of the world's second largest rainforest found in the Congo. The following alert is URGENT and will expire on December 9th. g.b.
ACTION ALERT FORWARD WIDELY! World Bank Must Not Fund Rainforest Destruction in the Congo
By Forests.org, project of Ecological Internet, Inc. December 5, 2005
The World Bank is moving forward with plans to subsidize ancient rainforest logging in the Democratic Republic of Congo's (DRC) mighty ancient rainforests. On Thursday December 8th, the Board of the World Bank will consider whether to approve more than $200 million in new funding for the government of DRC, some of it linked to 'development' of the country's rainforests. The World Bank is laying the basis for the destruction of Congo's rainforests, and it has breached many of its own internal safeguard policies in the process. Under the World Bank plan some 600,000 square kilometers of Congo's precious rainforest could eventually be handed over to logging companies. Forests are being zoned into areas for timber felling against the wishes of many local communities. On the eve of this important decision by the Bank's Board, twelve organizations representing the various indigenous 'Pygmy' peoples of the Congo have submitted a formal complaint to the World Bank Inspection Panel, an official independent watchdog, stating the Bank has failed to take into account the impact that its plans would have on people depending on the forest for their survival. The World Bank Board must urgently be called upon to suspend any further funding for forestry and mining in DRC until there has been a thorough review of the Bank's activities in DRC's forests to date, and until the Inspection Panel has conducted an investigation. Please take action now at http://forests.org/action/alert.asp?id=world_bank_congo

HUMAN RIGHTS ~
SAT. DEC. 10
Human Rights Petition
This Dec. 10 is the anniversary of the signing of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, which lists the fundamental human freedoms, including the right of workers to form unions. But in America, that fundamental freedom is at risk. Workers are routinely harassed and even fired for participating in union activities. That’s why we are engaging in a massive, nationwide mobilization effort all this week in honor of International Human Rights Day.

Please Make Trade Fair at the WTO - Make ONE Big Noise
On December 13th, the world will sit down in Hong Kong for trade talks that have the power to transform millions of lives through fairer trade. On the table will be proposals to change the rules so trade becomes part of the solution to poverty, not the cause.
At the G8 Summit, we called on world leaders to do more to fight extreme poverty and global AIDS. They heard us, and this meeting is the next step in helping the world’s poorest people. Our leaders need to know that we’re still watching and want real progress.

Defend Asylum for Survivors of Trafficking
Asylum denied to "Ann," a young Albanian woman who was targeted for prostitution, kidnapped and repeatedly raped at age 16. She managed to escape to the United States, but was denied asylum because she filed her application one month after the one-year filing deadline, when she was only 17 years old and was suffering from Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD). Facts about trafficking:
1) Human trafficking is the physical trade of human beings and their objectified use by criminals to make money, including prostitution or manual labor by force or trickery.
2)About $7-13 billion a year is made from human trafficking.
3)2-4 million people are trafficked worldwide every year, the majority in East Asia, including Europe, the United States, and South America.
4)Human trafficking is the modern day form of slavery.

Clemency For Melissa Chapman
In 1987, at the age of 18, Melissa Chapman was beaten, kicked, cut, bitten, burned with cigarettes, spit and urinated on, handcuffed during beatings, raped, locked in closets and threatened with a loaded gun to the head by her drug-addicted boyfriend. She left him several times, but he dragged her back with both promises and threats of death. To her horror, he shot and killed a man who was sitting with them in a truck during a drug deal. Terrified because he threatened to kill her as well as her parents, Melissa did as she was told and helped him hide the body to protect her own life, as well as those she loved. For this, she was convicted of 1st degree murder and handed a natural life sentence with no possibility of parole.

Tell Congress to Support Credit Card Reforms this Holiday Season!
Every Christmas, we pull out our credit cards to buy gifts for our friends and family. But, those credit cards can turn on us later: skyrocketing interest, late fees for bills mailed on time, low minimum payments that can bury us in interest. Did you know that credit card contracts frequently contain something called a "universal default" clause that allows the card company to jack up your interest rate because you made a late payment on another card, looked into refinancing your mortgage, or made unusually big purchases? Its time for credit card reform! . It shouldn't happen -- but sometimes we have to look on the lighter side. people of the world ratifying the Kyoto Protocol January 03, 2006 5:04 PM
Dear friends,
After two weeks of research of the Kyoto Protocol (due to University chore), I have come to learn the importance of this Protocol in further international negotiations about dealing with Global Warming.
Therefor I've found it incredibly important that the citizens of the world will also give their support to the protocol and its implementation.
I've picked up a high bar - attempting to get 50 milion people to sign in 2 years time (by 2008 countries taking part in Kyoto should already make a long way to mitigate Greenhouse Gasses) I really need your help in promoting the petition - reaching this goal will make an enormous change in International Politics by proving enviromental issues to be key issues in today's politics.
Should you be ready to help me promote the petition beyond signing it and sending it to your friends, please contact me so we can work together to make the world a better place.
We undersigned strongly urge the City Council, the Mayor and Citizens to take steady steps to join Mayors for Peace 2020 Vision and stating that the City and Citizens support the Program to Promote the Solidarity of Cities toward the Total Abolition of Nuclear Weapons.
The Mayors for Peace is composed of cities around the world that have formally expressed support for the program Mayor Araki announced in 1982. As of May 26, 2005, membership stood at 1,036 cities in 112 countries and regions, and as of March 9, 2006, membership stood at 1,306 cities in 115 countries and regions.
On June 24, 1982, at the 2nd UN Special Session on Disarmament held at UN Headquarters in New York, then Mayor Takeshi Araki of Hiroshima proposed a new Program to Promote the Solidarity of Cities toward the Total Abolition of Nuclear Weapons. This proposal offered cities a way to transcend national borders and work together to press for nuclear abolition. Subsequently, the mayors of Hiroshima and Nagasaki called on mayors around the world to support this program that is known today as 2020 Vision.
It is the duty of Mayors, City Councils and Citizens all over the world together to protect children, future generations, from nuclear holocausts and get rid of severe mental stress that has plagued well-being, dialogue and relationships tens of years.
Of one Essence is the human race, Thusly has Creation put the Base; One Limb impacted is sufficient, For all Others to feel the Mace.
Poet Saadi Shirazi/Hall of Nations, New York
A human being is part of the whole, called by us "universe," a part limited in time and space. He/She experiences his/her thoughts and feeling as something separate from the rest -- a kind of optical delusion of his/her consciousness. This delusion is a kind of prison for us, restricting us to our personal decisions and to affection for a few persons nearest us. Our task must be to free ourselves from this prison by widening our circle of compassion to embrace all living creatures and the whole of nature in its beauty.
- - Albert Einstein
Let's start spreading this petition. You can copy and inform your fellow-beings, friends, the Mayor and/or the City council about this petition and vision. Please, do inform of your actions. Feel free to ask if you don't know what to do but would like to participate. Thank you!
Once in a while we get a chance to make a real difference ... March 31, 2007 8:23 AM
Dear friends,
It is not that often that we get a chance to make a real difference, with no monetary cost to ourselves and at very little effort.
Petitions are an excellent way of achieving a difference, they need very little effort to sign, usually around 20 seconds. Yet the sad fact is they usually attract a small amount of the people contacted to take the time to sign them.
We have a petition, it involves hundreds of animals being butchered alive every day.
Hundreds of turtles suffer every day while they are cut up alive, yet only a small percentage of the people that are aware of this take the effort to try and change it.
Please take the time to help ensure that these animals meet a humane ending to their lives, it will only take 20 seconds of your life, it is the end of theirs.
Thank you for taking the time to read this, I wish you all a relaxing weekend.
Tell the EPA: "You Have Your Orders to Regulate CO2!"
TODAY, thanks to a lawsuit brought by Friends of the Earth and others, the U.S. Supreme Court found that the EPA had the authority to regulate CO2 as a pollutant -- and ordered the EPA to consider limiting the global warming pollution produced by motor vehicles!
Now that the EPA has its orders from the Supreme Court, tell them to get moving immediately by sending a message to EPA Administrator Stephen Johnson demanding he publicly present his plan for complying with the Supreme Court ruling before the end of April.
Friends of the Earth will copy your House and Senate members so they know that their state and district has weighed in with Administrator Johnson.
The decision is a major victory for the environment (and a stunning defeat for the Bush Administration, which has repeatedly refused to regulate greenhouse gas pollution). In the 5-4 decision, the Supreme Court found that "the harms associated with climate change are serious and well recognized." It rejected over a dozen EPA excuses for not regulating climate change and concluded that carbon dioxide and other greenhouse gases are "pollutants" under the Clean Air Act.
The EPA is now required to regulate greenhouse gases from motor vehicles if they "cause, or contribute to, air pollution which may be reasonable anticipated to endanger public health or welfare. . ." Clearly they do.
Now that he has his orders from the High Court, tell EPA Administrator Stephen Johnson to explain publicly how he plans to comply! If you choose, you can edit your letter to ask him directly how he would regulate CO2 emissions.
There is an overwhelming scientific consensus that global warming threatens the planet. Later this week, the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC), the authoritative U.N. network of 2,000 scientists and more than 100 governments is expected to report that global warming will destroy entire species. Polar bears, frogs, coral reefs and plankton are all at risk. A 2 to 4 degree rise in temperature is expected to threaten one-third of all species.
The Supreme Court pointed to several studies demonstrating environmental changes that have already inflicted serious harm, including the melting of glaciers, reduction in snow cover, and the accelerated rate of rise of sea levels.
Be an activist citizen and send your message to Mr. Johnson now. Then tell as many people as you can to join in with you!
President Bush recently signed an Executive Order (EO) that could exempt hundreds of federal facilities from reporting toxic chemical releases as a part of the Environmental Protection Agencys (EPA) Toxics Release Inventory (TRI) program. This measure follows EPA rulemaking last December that weakened TRI reporting requirements for all regulated facilities. Together, these actions significantly undermine the publics ability to track releases of hazardous chemicals that pose potentially serious risks to human health.
The TRI program was established in 1986 to empower citizens, through information, to hold companies and local governments accountable in terms of how chemicals are managed. Now the program has come under fire from the Bush administration in its efforts to ease the regulatory burden on industry. Yet the recent changes will provide only minimal burden reductions, while significantly reducing public access to information.
PSR has a toxics campaign designed to reduce the amount of toxins in the environment. By working to improve laws and regulations that apply to the manufacture and use of toxic chemicals, PSR seeks to reduce exposures, especially for vulnerable populations such as children. Your immediate donation will allow us to keep you informed of important issues regarding toxics and provide opportunities for you to take action to stop toxic degredation of the environment.
We have always found dolphins to be amazing creatures, they have been subjects of works of art, literature, and myth. Dolphins are highly intelligent animals, some think they are more intelligent than humans, which is why their communication methods have mystified and baffled.
Dolphins are friendly, sociable animals who enjoy companionship. They live as families, look after each others young, they love to interact and play.
Dolphins see man as a friend, they follow boats and allow themselves to be approachable. There have been reports of Dolphins saving humans who have found themselves in trouble at sea.
AND WHAT DO HUMANS DO IN RETURN ?
Some humans are happy to capture dolphins, tear them away from their families, exhibit them for so called pleasure, confine them so that people can pay to swim with them.
For conservation ? For the welfare of the Dolphin ?
There are reports that during the capture many of the Dolphins will die, those that survive face a life in captivity. There is not enough space here to debate what captivity does to a highly intelligent animal torn away from its family, here is a link for further reading.

Please sign to help Jefferson County Horses! April 19, 2007 4:06 PM
HI, A friend of mine has just started a petition and campaign to help save some horses in Jefferson County, WV.. Being the first time she created one she didn't get a title on it. This matter only involves a few horses but I still think we need to send a message that this is not ok.
Dennis Danley has been charged with 10 counts of animal cruelty. Sheriff's deputies identifed 5 dead and 10 malnourished horses. Unbelievably, the horses continue to remain in his custody. At least one other has died since his arrest. The law provides for the horses to be seized and volunteers are available to care for them until the court makes a decision re: them. Sheriff Boober has not complied with the law. Details of this sad situation are available on the PETA website. Documentation is available at Herald-mail.com. I am requesting your help in petitioning Sheriff Boober to seize the animals and place them in proper care until the court determines how this situation will be resolved. -------------------------------------------------------------------- From PETA
Dennis B. Danley faces 10 criminal counts after neglecting horses
By CHRIS BROWN / Journal Staff Writer
CHARLES TOWN — A Charles Town man was charged with multiple counts of cruelty to animals this week after police received a report last month that he was not properly caring for a number of horses at his farm in Kearneysville and a handful of them had died.
Dennis B. Danley, 54, of Charles Town, was arrested Monday by the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office, which claimed he was mistreating 10 to 15 horses by not feeding or watering them properly at a back field on Blakely Farm Lane.
According to a complaint filed by Cpl. V. H. Tiong, Danley admitted the horses were last seen by a veterinarian in September. Danley said the horses were supposed to be thin because of their breeding, according to the complaint.
During a visit to the property, Tiong said he asked Danley for documentation that the horses were healthy, but Danley failed to provide the paperwork.
Danley also failed to properly bury several dead horses, and Tiong said he also did not see any feed in the barn he was using. The horses were also being kept outside, police said, and Danley was ordered to provide the horses with shelter in the case of bad weather.
Tiong again visited the farm on March 15, after informing Danley that he would be bringing a veterinarian to examine the horses, and found several horses still in poor health, with some suffering from rain rot, and others appearing almost skeletal. In all, 10 horses were deemed malnourished and one of the horses in Danley’s care recently died because of a viral infection.
Danley was released on a $7,500 personal recognizance bond. If convicted, he could face between a $200 to $3,000 fine and/or 6 months in jail on each count of animal cruelty.
Danley was convicted in November of 1997 in Loudoun County, Va., on similar animal cruelty charges, police said.
Jefferson County resident Jeanne Morton said she was trying to organize a group of people to help care for these horses. Morton, who said feeding an individual horse was expensive, noted Danley’s previous conviction and said it underscored the need for the horses to be cared for.
“It’s not as if he’s just somebody who fell on hard times,” Morton said.
Electronics giant Sony has sparked a major row over animal cruelty and the ethics of the computer industry by using a freshly slaughtered goat to promote a violent video game.
The corpse of the decapitated animal was the centrepiece of a party to celebrate the launch of the God Of War II game for the company's PlayStation 2 console.

GRUESOME: One of the party hosts stands over the goat's carcass
Guests at the event were even invited to reach inside the goat's still-warm carcass to eat offal from its stomach.
Sickening images of the party have appeared in the company's official PlayStation magazine – but after being contacted by The Mail on Sunday, Sony issued an apology for the gruesome stunt and promised to recall the entire print run.
Critics condemned the entertainment giant, which produces scores of Hollywood blockbusters each year, for its "blood lust" and said the grotesque "sacrifice" highlighted increasing concerns over the content of video games and the lengths to which the industry will go to exploit youngsters.
At the event, guests competed to see who could eat the most offal – procured elsewhere and intended to resemble the goat's intestines – from its stomach.
They also threw knives at targets and pulled live snakes from a pit with their bare hands.
Topless girls added to the louche atmosphere by dipping grapes into guests' mouths, while a male model portraying Kratos, the game's warrior hero, handed out garlands.
The International Fund for Animal Welfare said it was "outrageous" that the animal's death had been used "to sell a few computer games".
A spokesman said: "We are always opposed to any senseless killing of an animal and this sounds like a gruesome death. We condemn Sony's actions. It is stupid and completely unjustified."
The party features across two pages of the latest edition of the company's PlayStation magazine, which was due to hit newsstands on Tuesday but has already been sent to subscribers.
We have reproduced the spread – headlined Sony's Greek Orgy – here, but have pixellated the image to spare readers the sight of the goat's decapitated head hanging by a thread of tissue from its corpse, with blood dripping to the floor.
But the magazine's readers were shown the picture in its full horror.
The article, based on a Sony Press release, shows more vivid pictures from the event under headlines such as Topless Girls! and Flesh Eating?
It asks readers how far they would go to get hold of Sony's next-generation console, the PlayStation 3.
"How about eating still warm intestines uncoiled from the carcass of a freshly slaughtered goat? At the party to celebrate God Of War II's European release, members of the Press were invited to do just that . . ."
In God Of War II, which is so violent it has been given an 18 certificate, players follow Kratos into battle against a series of fearsome characters from Greek mythology.
Sony describes it as "an adult-rated, fast-paced bloodbath – and enormous fun to boot", adding that it is "bigger, better and as brutal as ever".
One reviewer said the title featured "the most brutal, visceral combat of any action game".
Former Minister Keith Vaz, Labour MP for Leicester East and a long-time campaigner against violent computer games, branded the stunt "distasteful and irresponsible".
He said: "The slaughter of animals is not something that should be done to advertise a product.
"Sony as a global entertainment company has a social responsibility. At this event it failed in that responsibility.
"I think people should think very carefully before bringing games like this into their homes.
"I would understand if customers wanted to boycott other Sony products such as their televisions because of this controversy."
Sony, based in Japan and run by Welshman Sir Howard Stringer, is one of the largest media organisations in the world, boasting global revenues of £40billion from electronics, video games, music, television programmes and feature films – including Spider-Man 3 and Casino Royale.
It is regarded, along with Coca-Cola, Nike and Mercedes-Benz, as one of the world's most valuable brands.
The company, which released the game in the UK on Friday, admitted that the stunt had been a mistake. In a statement it said: "Sony does not condone or sanction any inappropriate behaviour by its staff or sub-contracted staff.
We still think they need to know how we feel so please sign!
The North Pacific Garbage Patch! December 20, 2007 8:35 AM
Pollution, especially plastic pollution is a big issue. It has been
collecting in the gyres in the ocean for some time, and is not
biodegrading. Instead, the sun is breaking is down into smaller plastic
particles that absorb harmful chemicals like DDT.
These particles get into all of our bodies of water, animals eat them
as they are mistaken as fish eggs, and make their way to our food.
The first step is obvious--cut down on the plastics you use and only
use biodegradable ones. Refuse to buy products with excess packaging.
Bring your own bag at the grocery store. All of these things help.
Second- RECYCLE. We hear this all the time, but it really can make a large impact.
Finally, petition to begin cleaning the largest landfill on Earth, twice the size of Texas, floating in our Pacific Ocean!

Petition urgently needs help! On January 22nd, the LA Country Board of Supervisors are meeting to discuss this issue. The more signatures there are the better! Please help show your support to tell them that people care about banning plastic bags and the environment!
chemicals in our environment January 27, 2008 8:10 PM
"There is a general lack of knowledge regarding the 99% of chemicals (around 100,000 'existing substances') that were placed on the market before 1981. This is because prior to that date, no stringent health and safety tests were needed to market chemicals...While some well-known chemicals, such as asbestos, are already banned, the Commission believes that the rising incidence of diseases such as cancer and leukaemia could be linked to chemicals. Blood tests in humans and animals have shown contamination by known toxic substances, raising questions as to how they enter the body and the extent of the damage that they could cause"

What are you doing on the 4th of July?
We're building a HUMAN CHAIN to fight against Global Warming.
Go to the nearest interstate. The five longest Interstate routes, each more than 2, 000 miles, are east-west routes. These are: 1. I-90, 3, 020.54 miles, from Seattle, Washington, to Boston, Massachusetts, 2. I-80, 2, 899.54 miles, from San Francisco, California, to Teaneck, New Jersey, 3. I-40, 2, 555.40 miles, from Barstow, California, to Wilmington, North Carolina, 4. I-10, 2, 460.34 miles, from Los Angeles, California to Jacksonville, Florida, and 5. I-70, 2, 153.13 miles, from Cove Fort, Utah, to Baltimore, Maryland. Assuming one human arm span is about one yard, we need a LOT of people. Buy t-shirts and buttons from Plug-In America and Set America Free, wear them often while you hand out the fliers with the web sites
There are numerous energy saving and pollution solving ideas available that could be put in to place RIGHT NOW. One of them is the ELECTRIC CAR! Businesses are stalling. The government is stalling, and we're not going to take it anymore.
Now that we know "WHO KILLED THE ELECTRIC CAR", we're heading to the highways to say “I WANT MY Z.E.V.” and “comply with California's Zero Emissions Mandate of 1990!!” We are ten years OVERDUE!
S. David Freeman, former Chairman of the Board of the Tennessee Valley Authority, and Energy Adviser of the Carter Administration said "It took a law to get seat belts in cars. It took a law to get airbags in cars. It took a law to get efficiency from 12mpg to 20mpg It took a law to get catalytic converters..."
Well let's go get us a LAW -“Vehicles that spew Greenhouse gases are to be illegal by 2020.”
SO everybody warm up your "Electric Slide" skills and "head on down the highway"
please support our livestock production reduction petition for preserving Earth! March 28, 2009 1:18 PM
Hi all!!
The University of California, San Diego student organization: VEG (Vegetarian
Environmentalist Group) is happy to present an online petition which aims to
reduce the livestock industry via means of removal of governmental subsidies
for livestock farmers as well as implementation of tax for livestock products
for their detrimental external social burden on the environment. If you are
still unfamiliar with the relationship between livestock production and the
environment, I have listed the key facts below. Here is our petition link:
BACKGROUND INFORMATION: SUMMARY OF LIVESTOCK'S IMPACT ON THE ENVIRONMENT
(SOURCE: 2006 UNITED NATIONS FAO REPORT, LIVESTOCK'S LONG SHADOW)
Our current livestock industry is responsible for emitting 37% of all
human-induced Methane, 65% of all human-induced Nitrous Oxide, 9% of all
human-induced Carbon Dioxide, and 64% of human-induced Ammonia. The Carbon
Dioxide equivalent of livestock industry emissions is 18%, which is greater
than all transportation combined (transportation CO2 equivalent is 12%). So, we
need to decrease the livestock industry along with turning to alternative
transportation systems (like biking!!). We cannot just pin global warming on
one single source and go from there, all aspects need to adapt to the current
climate crisis.
In addition to the greenhouse gas emissions, livestock current needs 36% of the
world grain and 74% of the world soy to sustain its industry. If you think
about it, this is not sustainable at all in the long run. It is definitely not
an efficient usage of world crop supplies.
Now lets talk water. Water is essential for survival. Did you know that
California currently imports 100% of its clean water supply? Yes... and we are
not increasing our world water supply. Yes, there are technologies being
researched to desaltize the ocean waters, but think about the cost of that.
Its not a quick and easy solution. The best solution would be for everyone to
be frugal. While major medias are telling us to conserve water during showers
and toothbrushing, they are leaving out a major part of water usage.
According to the Stockholm International Water Institute, 20% of all world
water supply goes to industries, 10% of all water goes to households, and 70%
of all water goes to producing food. These statistics awaken a lot of people
because if you think about how much water we use in industries and households
(its A LOT), many folds more is going to agriculture. Now get this: within the
agricultural business (which uses 70% of all our clean water), 1 POUND OF
LETTUCE takes 23 gallons of water to produce, 1 POUND OF WHEAT takes 25 gallons
of water, 1 POUND OF APPLES take 49 gallons of water, 1 POUND OF CHICKEN takes
815 gallons of water, 1 POUND OF PORK takes 1,630 gallons of water, and 1 POUND
OF BEEF takes 5,214 gallons of water. (You can do some research online to see
how to have defined these water usage values according to pounds) So now the
question is, one plate of dinner will fill most of us up (some go for seconds,
thirds, but anyways..). If you fill that one plate with meat, thats 6000
gallons of water or more. If you fill that one plate up with rice and veggies
(this can be tasty faux meat too!), it takes less than 100 gallons of water.
Please, be frugal and responsible. Imagine a planet with no more water.
Here are just some additional costs of livestock production. Did you know that
livestock farming land takes up 70% of all agricultural land, and 30% of world's
ice-free terrestrial surface? Yup. And for the forest lovers (we should all
love forests, they are the lungs of our planet), 70% of the Amazon rainforest
is currently being occupied by pastures; feedcrops occupy a large sector of the
remaining 30%.
Everyone talks about saving energy now with new bulbs, solar power, etc. Well
why not talk about food, too. The livestock sector requires 16 times more
fossil fuel energy than other sectors of agriculture. Moreover, livestock is
increasingly being fed with grains and cereals that could have been consumed by
humans, converting only up to 33% of its nutrients for our consumption.
Lastly (for my purposes), the U.S. livestock sector alone produces 900
million tons of manure annually. Immense lagoons used to store waste are known
to heavily degrade the surrounding air and water, creating dead zones within
our clean bodies of water. Besides harming our precious marine life, its nice
to know that we are surrounded by 80% of water of this planet. So if our ocean dies,
we probably dont have much of a chance for survival either.
All in all, its good that we are more aware of global warming and finally
(most people) recognize it as partially (if not mostly) human caused. Now,
besides being frugal, using a reusable bag, riding a bike or taking the bus,
changing lightbulbs, and saving shower time, please also change your diet. It
really makes a huge impact, even though it seems like youre just intaking a
piece of meat, that piece of meat came from loads of environmental damage (as
well as suffering!). Inaction is inexcusable. If youre a non-vegetarian, go
vegetarian. If youre already a vegetarian, go vegan. If youre already a
vegan... go organic Of course, if you can go straight to organic vegan that
is the best for the environment in terms of personal contribution. Be Veg, Be
Green, Save the Planet. (doubtful? do
