Thank you for the invite LisAnne January 29, 2007 9:54 AM

I have been disabled since 1986 with an "invisible illness" that causes lots of issues because I usually do not LOOK sick ... arrrghhh.

Hopefully we can support one another ~ especially those of us that are alone without a carer. Budget cuts took my help away and it is so difficult to just survive sometimes.

<--- pushing the soapbox back in the corner for now

hi everyone! my name is lory and i think i belong to this group lol. i get critized a lot because i am disabled and i'm only 29. people think i'm stupid or lazy. that hurts. sometimes my back hurts too bad i can't bend over to pick something up off the floor. once at the store, there was this little old woman who was standing next to me and she dropped something and looked at me like "aren't you gonna pick that up for me, kid?" i felt horrible! i wanted to pick it up so badly but i couldn't. i hurt too much. i just looked at her for a second and turned my head the other way. she did manage to get it thank god! anyway, sorry to bore you guys lol. happy new year and thanks for the welcome!  [ send green star]  [ accepted]

Hi and thank-you to Lis Anne for inviting me.

I'm here because I agree with the sentiment stated in the group name.  Those who think otherwise are perhaps the stupid ones, but let us not get me started!

Hi Dawn! October 08, 2006 12:07 AM

Hello everyone!

I was about to turn in when I happened across the name of this group, and I just had to check it out.

I'm slow, not stupid!

Hemiplegic migraines have lingering effects on my speech, gait, and memory -- among other things. One of the ways I cope is to leave evidence around the house of what I'm doing. Also emergeancy walking sticks.

I am sooo tired of people underestimating me, and trying to pull stuff they wouldn't try on someone else. Not only is it a pain to have to deal with, but it often works in the short run, and I figure it out later. I can't seem to find that happy medium between paranoid and gullible.

I'm looking forward to reading the topics here.  G'nite for now!

Hi, thanks Liberal Cause for the invitation! I'm back - I'm one of those w/an invisible dis-ability....a fused back and add to that now a shoulder w/torn ligaments/bursitis and tendenitis. I'm in PT now and when I joined the arthritis swim class all the women were older and looked at me like I was a Martian. I quickly told the teacher I have a fused spine and also had revision surgery - plus arthritis - like having to justify being there. I could be depressed about not being in jazzercize anymore at at 24 hr. fitness but I'm just happy to have found something I can still do and feel good about! Just thankful for what I have that still works...It can always get worse and it will and I will deal w/whatever when it does. I have all along. Just do the best I have w/what I've got and be happy to be alive every moment! And to be here. Love to you all. Jennie B.  [ send green star]  [ accepted]

 September 26, 2006 1:30 AM

Wow...it's been a long time since I've called myself a "newbie" LiberalWcause for the invitation.

We are taking both my sons to a psychiatrist today so we can get an "official diagnosis" of their particular situations and help getting their special educations needs filled.  (This school is really helping out and I appreciate their efforts.)  In another state, we had the younger boy's access to special ed threatened by a principal who was angry because we had gone to the district over one son being assaulted on the playground (he was 8 then) by four of his classmates (due to the school's handling).

I also work at a residential/teaching facility for adults with various develop/mental disabilities.  Right now I work in a home with 8 men who are relatively "high-functioning".  Next week I'll be in a home with somen (I think there are 6), w/some more 'serious' physical - developmental disabilities.

anonymous Thanks for the Invite, Gutsy! July 12, 2006 4:53 AM

Hello and thank you So very MUCH for this invite, Gutsy!! The weird thing about this? Is that I was pondering starting a group and calling it "STOP THE STEROTYPE" but I am GLAD for this invite, because it states what I wanted to say!!

My name is Eve, I live in Montana, I am 40 years old, disabled, and I agree that wearing a lable of being disabled SHOULD NOT FEEL LIKE A CRIME!!!!!!!

I am TIRED of people seeing ONLY my wheelchair, or my Electric scooter, and NOT seeing my mind!! I have an A.A in Computer Sciences with a minor in Web Design graduated PHI THETA KAPPA!

I believe that ONE PERSON CAN make a difference and it does NOT matter if that person is mentally or physically disabled!!!!!

I am also diagnosed with PTSD, and a FORM, (yes their ARE FORMS ) of Bipolar Disorder, which BY THE way, is not a mental illness, it is a BRAIN DISORDER!!! I am sick and tired of being treated like I am stupid, due to the ignorance of MOST people walking around out there!

I SAY THANK YOU GOD for my accident that put me in this wheelchair, for everything happens for a reason! If this DID NOT happen? I would NOT have seen what it is like for others, like me now, to get around, to not have handicapped access to some of the most important buildings I.E. VOTING???

Thanks again Gutsy, for BEING GUTSY!!! BRAVO TO YOU and all of YOU for making a difference in an ignorant world!!!

MUCH LOVE AND PRAYERS TO YOU ALL!!

BE THAT LION!!

Thanks for the Invite... June 26, 2006 10:22 AM

Hi Live Life... I do injoy my opportunity to "live life!"  I suggest to others that I associate with, to live life as well.  I feel so blessed to be here, and now...  "What a Wonderful World" by Louis Armstrong.  There is an instrumental version available on care2 for the E-cards. I really like that version.

I'm here to make a difference for humanity... one million people at a time, well at least one person at a time :~)  !

The answers to health are found in natural choices from nature. Enjoy!!!   With Love, Spencer  Peace!!!
